Is my WiFi Assistant working? - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Guys, I have enabled wifi assistant on my 5x and it say that it will show key symbol when it connects to public hot spot. How come I don't see any key symbol when my cell connects to public wifi? Is the wifi assistant working?

Problems connecting to wifi network with login page (3G still active)

I don't know if this problem occurs only with the OP3. It seems the phone stiil uses 3G if Wifi is not getting a connection (wifi with exclamation mark)
When I connect to a wifi network that needs login, if I don't login the OP3 continues to use 3G instead of failing to connect. This causes me problems to access the gateway page to login, because it gets confused and it tries to access the private IP with the login page using the 3G connection..
I remember my S4 had a possibility of seamlessly switching between 3G and Wifi. Can't I disable this feature in the OP3?
Right now I have to disable the mobile data to force the login through the wifi connection. Is it just me with this problem?
This can be handy in some situations where you loose wifi connection in a public hotspot, due to a timeout, and the phone uses 3G instead of leaving you without any connection. But right now is causing me problems to connect and I must be carefull with huge traffic apps because you can be using 3G instead (look for the !)
I still haven't solve this annoyance. Currently the best workaround is to temporarly disconnect Mobile Data. That will leave the OP3 without internet access, and then it pops the login page (I guess it then assumes the gateway IP is private).
After logging in I can turn mobile data On again.
This is very annoying. Don't you have this problem, especially with corporate wifi networks that require login?

Problem with WIFI, i can not connect and authentication in wireless networks

Hi!
I need your help. I can not access any wifi network. I can view all the WiFi networks that are around me, but when I am trying to connect to them, it gives me an authentication error. The WiFi symbol in the upper right corner of the Tablet never pops up. I've forgotten all the networks and there is no way to connect to any wireless network. I even cleaned it in factory mode.
Thanks

Phone has problems with detecting the internet connection of wifi

Hello,
my Nexus 5x has problems with detecting the internet connection of my home wifi. If I connect freshly to the wifi (by turning wifi on my phone on), internet connection is detected. But if the phone is not used for some time, the Nexus "thinks" that the wifi has no internet access and uses mobile connection instead. This only occurs with my Nexus and the wifi in my flat. I do not experience those issues with my notebook nor the phone of my girlfriend at my home wifi. Nor does my Nexus 5x show those issues with any other wifi.
Does anyone of you experience similar issues oder do you know how to get rid of my problem?
Best regards,
wewa
Similar problem happen to me on 8.1. I solved with giving the WiFi connection static IP address in the settings (long tap on WiFi SSID and choose advanced, add static IP from range of your router). After some time it fixed by itself somehow and there was no need for static IP settings.
Somehow phone didn't get the IP from DHCP I think.

Issue connecting to public wifi

Hello guys. I've been having this issue to connect to public wifi (i.e. at Starbucks) ever since I updated to Nougat and Oreo. Non-rooted. The last time it worked was on Marshmallow.
Tried to restart phone, use different browsers, enter google.com or other sites as testing.... still can't connect to the public wifi with my HTC10. It won't popup the page where you need to enter 'starbucks wifi password' to enter. Although I can use my laptop to connect to it fine. So it's definitely my phone's issue.
Connection via 3G/LTE and private wifi is fine. Just the public wifi isn't working. Any ideas?
