Unable to access Bootloader, Recovery, ADB... - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I posted a response to this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc...pably-bricked-help-guys-t3462553#post68743293) but haven't received any replies.
I have a M8 which had previously been running the latest LeeDroid ROM and decided to try converting to GPE.
I downloaded the ROM, flashed the suggested firmware and then flashed the ROM. Things appeared to be going smoothly as the ROM booted up, but before I could get into the OS I got a message stating my data was encrypted and would need to reset.
I reset multiple times but got no further, as it turned out the partition (or data) was corrupt. A thread on here suggested formatting the partition in TWRP but when I tired this, I got an error.
Since then the phone does not boot, the screen stays black, I cannot force it into Recovery or Bootloader and ADB cannot see the device.
However, when I plug it into the PC I get the normal notification beep, and then Windows starts listing drives in My Computer/This PC.
In total there are ~21 drives, most of which 'require formatting' (although I suspect this is just Windows not recognising the filesystems) a few of them are readable and contain various android system files.
My assumption and I could be wrong, is that I've somehow wiped the Boot partition, which is why nothing seems to work...
My question is, since I can see the internal drive, can I 'ghost' a copy of a Stock device onto it? And will doing so allow it to boot?
I have both Linux and Windows at home so either could be used to do this if anyone knows how...
Thanks in advance,
Nick
TL;DR - Bricked my phone converting to GPE, PC only sees it as a storage device, can I 'copy' a Stock image and rebuild the partitions to save the device?

plz help me . I am too in a similar situation. no adb, bootloader, recovery. when i plugin the device so many partitions shows up on pc
update:
i could get into bootloader using this method. Certainly saved my nerves

USB error, cant do nothing with it

This is a strange problem, I cant tell when it started but it did all of a sudden. When I try to connect my phone to my computer it all of a sudden does not recognize the device (it shows under USB in device manager as unknown device). This happens on my laptop and stationary one (XP and Windows Home Server). On my work computer and my girlfriends laptop (Windows vista) nothing happens at all. The only thing happens is my phone shows notification about HTC Sync (doesnt show the "mount SD card" option). I cant install modaco 2.x since it says it isnt signed when I try to run update.zip from "home+power" mode.
Anyone knows a solution? I really want to flash either modaco or the official HTC rom.

have you instaled HTC Sync + the Android SDK? Drivers are included, also ensure you have gone to settings > Application Settings > Development.. and selected USB Debugging in the handset
if you have done the above you should be able to...
Sync your device
Do a nandroid backup
Root your device
and flash, flash, flash
hope this helps
Thing is, all those stuff is checked. The strangest thing is that the phone doesnt even ask me if I want to mount the SD card (to make the phone like a card reader). I successfully flashed the generic rom again (so my phone is not rooted etc etc) but it still cant connect to any computer through USB (except from when in bootloader (back+power). Its really starting to bugging me since I cant transfer music to the phone anymore I tried a hard-reset, flashed a generic rom (the new one) and formatted the SD card (the phone can read and write to/from it without problems).
I've got the same problem for quite some time now and still no answers...! :-(
It seems very few people on these boards know of our exact problem and i've never seen a solution. Also not from the many people on these boards I consider guru's. :-(
I'm at a total loss here...
I will call HTC Sweden today and see if they can help me solve this issue. I will get back to this thread as soon as Ive been speaking to them. This is starting to really bugging me.
First of all, I would try reformatting your SD card on the phone itself via Menu-> SD card & Phone Storage. If you need anything on the card, you'll have to stick the SD card in adaptor and attach it to your PC directly.
Secondly, by the sounds of it you haven't flashed Cyanogens recovery image, or your HBOOT is wrong, if you are getting a problem with the signature on Modacos image. Either flash Cyanogen recovery, or follow the instructions found on another thread for restoring your HBOOT to an earlier version.

Dave

I have tried to format the SD card already, didnt help.
What would the hboot have to do with the SD card mounting? I got the original hboot .0004 or somehting like that (never touched it).
This is the complete infor from my HBOOT screen (power+back).

Should I update something? And how would that help me get USB connection to work outside fastboot? Since its only working in fastboot and not in the android system itself?
Answer from HTC:
If you are getting the 'USB Device not recognized' error in XP, then your device has a faulty USB port. You need to call our repair line to gte it booked in for repair. That really is all there is, once the hardware dies and starts giving that error, there generally is no hope apart from replacing the USB socket or the whole motherboard. best regards, HTC Europe Support
Would have been nice if they could include in this message where I should turn etc?
I had the same error when I flashed my unit with wrong radio image (newer version) without flashing system and boot images. Then I reflashed those as well and everything worked ok.

Is there any update.zip containing all those updates? and would it void my warranty? ex, would HTC be able to see any difference to the hboot etc?
Any guide you could point me to on how to update all those things?

Unaltered Desize Z won't boot anymore...

Hi!
I have 2 Desire Z devices here. One rooted with CM7 running just fine, and one untouched, with the original Froyo/Sense ROM. and here's the problem:
Out of nothing the phone won't boot anymore and is stuck at the HTC-Logo screen.
I can still boot into (the original unaltered) hboot and fastboot.
When I select Facrory Reset from hboot, I think it does flash the recover image, but that won't boot either.
Selecting Recovery in hboot just displays an icon in the middle of the screen (a phone with a yellow warning sign in front)
I find guides on how to backup and restore for rooted phones all over the place, but I'd like to keep that device in original condition. Just want it working again.
So maybe there's a way to flash a working recovery rom through fastboot?
Maybe we can do some diagnosis using ADB in hboot?
Oh, and it's probably too late but backing up the contacts (and other data) would be great
Any help really appreciated!
Thanks!
Daniel
Sounds like you might be suffering from the 'bad' emmc problem.
There's information on the error here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1039504
In short, the internal memory card gets corrupted and cannot be written too, if you do have this problem there is nothing you can do, but get a replacement.
-Nipqer
Thanks! I'll contact HTC...
Still I can still connect to USB on the bootloader, do you think I have a chance of dumping my data partition so I can try to recover things later?
if you know how to do a dump I'd say its worth a shot. The emmc (i think) can still be read, just not written to.
-Nipqer
I don't know how to dump using fastboot. I found a way to upload an image to the phone, but I can't download.
Can anyone point me to a guide on how to dump Data using ADB/Fastboot?
Is there any way to get a shell in the bootloader and access the filesystem?
You might be able to use adb shell in recovery mode, but seeing as you don't have clockwork mod it may not work.
Give it a go anyway.
-Nipqer
No it doesn't work just like that...
I couldn't find any USB drivers that workes (not from the sdk and not from HTC Sync). The drivers from PDANet installed correctly though.
adb doesn't recognize the device, but it is recognized in Windows' device manager.
fastboot works though, but it can't download anything, right?
I'm not sure if it doesn't work because of the driver or if it's just not supposed to work with the normal launcher.
I guess I should just tell the guy his contacts are gone... I doubt it helps to put a note in, "please restore my contacts if possible", when I send it to HTC.
I just hope my device won't break the same way... But at least I have clockworkmod on it and I do regular backups and have everything synced to Exchange, so it won't be that much of a problem for me...
Thanks for all the help!

Unable to access any memory in INC CM7 nightly 218

HELP!!! yes , its that bad and frustrating for me.
What happened?
I installed the latest CM7#218, and the phone never was able to restart. It was giving the '3-5 vibrates' symptom. After managing to get into recovery mode, i couldnt see anything from SD card. I later erased and reformatted the sd card but to no use.
In detail:
1. Installed CM7#218.
2. phone restart gives 3-5 vibrate symptom, cant even get into recovery mode.
3. tried factory reset , sd card reformat, repair from windows but doesnt help.
4. only when i unplug the device, power on or when i click on recovery mode, and while on the HTC splash screen, if I connect charger, ONLY then i can get into recovery mode or start the base CM7 OS.
5. in recovery mode i cannot see card , tried all possible mounts/unmounts. thus unable to restore any backups
6 when the base OS boots, (using point#4 above), i still cannot see sd card, nor able to format from phone. in file manager i can see my internal storage. But the phone does not give me any usb mount option , so cannot even view the internal memory from windows.
7. referred to the following thread and many other options etc, but doesnt work.
http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/6433-solved-messed-up-partitions-on-internal-storage/
the adb shell does not detect my device, tried using 'PDANET' ' ends with 'cannot handshake with device'. tried installing droidexplorer, cannot see my device in the refresh list.
8. Thus as it stands now, i cannot use my internal as well external memory, the web downloads wont go, saying cannot see any memory, same for camera, it cannot see any memory available to it.
9. have already tried N number of restarts, connect disconnect and battery pulls.
10. tried even running the unrevoked, but it cannot connect to device.
11. tried installing all possible drivers as well.
12. its surely not bricked cuz i can use the base OS, and get into recovery through #4 tactics.
HELP!!
Have you seen this?
http://pvillecomp.com/?page_id=33
Firstly my sdb shell is nto detecting the device..."error: device not found"
my device manager show "ADB INTERFACE -> HTC BOOTLOADER" and there are no warning icons aroind any other devices, so driver seems to be fine.
You need to install the adb drivers on your pc. It should say adb composite device. I believe you get them from the android sdk.
ok now that i was playing around from recovery..i ended up formatting everything...even boot....so now i no longer get the base OS...the moment i power on my device it automatically goes into hboot...
So, as per the link you shared. it says my phone need to be in fastboot mode...and in fastboot mode the device manager should read 'android bootloader interface'?
I did go through most of the search items initially...stumbling from one issue to another...finally it boils down to adb -device not found issue....its been 2 days and i've almost given up now...
any last minute help?
only the recover mode is working with no access to sd card,
it can access teh internal memory , but there is no way for me to copy any files to the internal memory...it doesn mount neither the adb is working
Have you tried reformating your sd fat32 with a pc, or tried a different sd card? Thats the only other thing i can sugest to try.
yes, that is the first thing i found in other forums and already tried that....
you think you have any suggestions to atleast access my internal memory , may be, from linux (i am not a linux guy but have a ubuntu live cd) so that use the option 'install zip from internal memory'
Im not sure im not much of a linux guy eithet, mabey someone who is will chime in.

How to get T-Mob S3 off (third) Samsung splash screen to access data

Can anyone please assist to get data off an S3 which sticks at the blue-backed throbbing SAMSUNG splash screen just after the android rocket take-off.
The history is that the phone started constant-rebooting and I left it off for a few weeks. Then I took it into a shop to get the power switch replaced and the repairer noticed that it no longer reboots, it just sticks at that SAMSUNG screen. When neither of us could get it into safe mode, he diagnosed that it was "definitely" a software problem. Resetting caches from recovery mode doesn't do anything and as I am trying to get data off it, I am a bit reluctant to follow other solutions I have found here and do a master reset!
I THINK this device is rooted (with towelroot)? See below
I can get to an Odin screen and can get the device recognised on the computer and wondered if I could do resets from there with one of the 4 files included with 3.07. Curiously enough one of them did succeed (though the success was too quick to convince me it had actually flashed very much) and the device did reboot but still got stuck at the same splash screen! Taking the battery out and restarting/cleaning caches again etc didn't help and now, none of the Odin files will 'flash' successfully, which is why I am not sure if I am still rooted or if something is returned to stock. I am just not sure which file or what exactly flashed successfully and what it did to the ROM, bootloader, CID, etc etc etc. SO I am assuming that if I can still load Odin and get the S3 recognised, it is still rooted.
Is there anything else I can try either through odin or independently to get me into the os please? I have loaded skipsoft and run it and it has connected to the S3 (and changed things) just by connecting to the computer in download mode: But I can't see where in skipsoft I can diagnose or correct whatever is wrong
Flash TWRP via Odin, boot into TWRP, mount data partition, connect the phone to a computer, and try to copy the phone's data to the computer.
What that guy said ^^^ Install a new OS for your system which should replace your old one. You don't need to boot TWRP if you are going to boot a new OS. My method involves you losing all your data so you have been warned. You can get the stable version for that here http://techbeasts.com/update-t-mobi...o-android-4-3-jelly-bean-t999uvuemjc-guide/2/. Good luck
Thanks for that guys but I have apparently already loaded Philz and it SAYS it has backed up the data and/or storage to sc card and I am wondering if Ican restore it to a new Galaxy J7. I especially need to figure out if I can restore telephone text messages from the S3 onto the J7 but i could make do for the moment with knowing whether such messages have made their way onto the SD card.
Yes, I am a bit reluctant to do a full wipe and restore until I can figure this out.
Or if I can access the files through my computer as you suggest, what file / format would they be in?
If you used Philz to create a backup, I don't think you'll be able to restore the data to the J7, but I could be wrong because Philz hasnt been updated for a long time which means there may be no Philz for the J7.
Philz can only be restored with Philz and possibly cwm.
I got Philz installed through Skipsoft but am wondering whether there is any newer utility I can install over whatever Skipsoft has put there? Or is that what TWRP is?
I am a bit reluctant to install anything through TWRP if it is going to not only overwrite the OS but also delete all the data I am trying to access! But is there any utility which might conceivably get my phone working again without deleting all my data please?
If I load T999UVUEMJC_T999TMBEMJC_TMB,md5 through Odin, will it delete all my data??
Flashing twrp should not over write the rom, only the recovery.
Was the phone recognized as a removable when it was booted into philz?

Why did you ask me that? 'cos I was pretty sure it was recognised but checked again and it isn't recognised by the computer at all when I plug it in (and obviously isn't recognised by Odin)
Philz shows as Touch 6.26.6 and ClockworkMod v 6.0.4.8
Why would I ask? Because twrp can mount the phone as a removable drive to copy off the data as you wanted to do in your original post.

Sorry to harp but are we agreed generally that there is no way of getting this phone working again, - whether with some utility or by re-flashing the stock or some new ROM?
Once the phone starts hanging at that third throbbing SAMSUNG screen, is it effectively dead save only for the purposes of getting data off it as a media device please? I really need to access my text messages and couldn't even identify them on a file directory and wouldn't know what format they were in if I could access the file browser. That was sorta a last resort but I am now downloading T999UVUEMJC_T999TMBEMJC_TMB for installation through Odin? Or for installation through Philz if I can get the file onto the SD card.
Did you try twrp and use a otg usb?
It really depends on how much your time is worth.

I will keep retrying to see if it is something I am doing wrong but whereas Skipsoft installed easily, i dont seem to be able to install twrp on this nonbooting pda?
If the phone is not recognised by the computer, either the drivers are not working properly, the USB port is damaged, or the USB cable is not compatible with Odin.
Until the phone is recognised in Odin, you can't flash a stock rom from sammobile.com.

I am not exactly a newbie at this but I am beginning to wonder if I havent just got a developing massive hardware failure. I have tried a number of computers, including ones which formerly recognised the computer/cable/S3 setup and none can now recognise the phone, eg in Odin.
The phone is detected on plugin to Windows 10 (with the recognition beep) and is then not seen in windows explorer. Changing cables doesn't do anything. I am assuming it should automatically appear on the drop-down menu in TWRP's app in the playstore. That menu only shows a phone I plugged into the system about 6 months ago (without it being rooted) and asks for root permissions on this now-nonexistent phone.
The phone is not now recognised as it was up till only a few days ago in XP. Nothing is now recognised on a Mac, though on all three units the phone charges.
Restarting in download mode a few times changes nothing.

The only other thing I can think of is putting some TWRP file (?) on an SD card, booting into recover/Philz and can i not install TWRP or reflash some ROM from there?
I'm not sure if twrp can be flashed from Philz as I have always flashed TWRP via Odin.
You have done everything I would have done to get the phone recognized short of a installing a fresh installation of a Windows OS.
You could also try Heimdall (http://glassechidna.com.au/heimdall/).

Files inside of folders showing in TWRP file manager, but not in Windows.

So one month ago my M8 with LineageOS was rebooting randomly, so I decided to try updating. Unfortunately, my phone rebooted while updating, and got stuck in a bootloop. Couldn't find any RUUs for my device, but I found a backup, Tried restoring to it, with no luck, so I gave up. Fast forwarding to now, I realized I followed the instructions wrong and went to try again.
I'm trying to copy the backup to my phone, but the TWRP\BACKUPS folder isn't showing up on my phone, neither the files in most folders (sometimes it shows a Windows hard drive icon, but I can't open it)
I've recorded a .gif of going into the folders, but I can't post it until I get to 10 posts.
Also, I mounted the phone using TWRP, and it says to not unmount it until I remove it safely, but the Safely Remove Hardware window doesn't show the phone. Is it safe to unmount it without removing it safely?
Try going into Windows Device Manager, then finding the phone, and seeing if you can pick the option to manually select drivers. If so, pick the "generic" Android MTP device (forget the exact name, but think it's something along those lines "Android MTP device"). This sometimes helps my phone "see" the storage in TWRP or even in fastboot, adb or even when the phone is booted to OS.

Tried updating how? Updating Lineage, or something else.
Maybe or maybe not directly relevant to the TWRP mount issue, but it may possibly shed some light on how you got to this point; and help find another solution to your 'no boot' situation.

If you gave some details about the phone, we might be able to find an RUU. Do fastboot getvar all, and post the results (delete IMEI and serial number before posting).

It's probably safe to remove the device. There is a small chance the memory can be corrupted, if a file transfer is happening when you remove it. But otherwise, I believe it's "mostly" safe. Honestly, I forget to unmounts this and other devices (thumb drives, etc.) before disconnecting, probably 90% of the time. And nothing bad has ever happened to me. It's really just a precaution, than anything. But if the option to unmounts isn't even selectable, there isn't much you can do to unmounts it. May indicate it's not properly mounted, anyway.
It was updating Lineage, but anyways I flashed Lineage again and it worked (didn't do it before because some people in an Android Discord told me it wouldn't work)
