Oneplus 3 can't boot into OxygenOS after deleting file - OnePlus 3 Questions & Answers

Hey,
I wanted to create an nandroid backup in TWRP and got error 255 in the process.
I got the log of the failed update:
cloud.directupload.net/dfZq
So i searched for a solution, and the internet said that i should remove the file wich causes backup to fail. The logs said it was '/system/app/AndroidPay'
This is a file, not a folder.
So i removed the file, keeping an backup of it, booted into TWRP and the backup still failed.
To my surprise the boot into OxygenOS fails now. It shows the Oneplus Powerd by Android logo, turns black and reboots into twrp. Recovery and Bootloader seems to work fine.
So I connected my device with my computer and tried to get the file back to '/system/app' using adb.
I tried 'adb push AndroidPay /system/app' and it seems to be transferred succesfully, however the boot into oxygenOS is still not working.
I think it can be fixed by formatting the device and flash OxygenOS new to it, but I really don't wanna do that.
General Information:
Oneplus 3
OxygenOS 3.3.4
Rooted
Xposed Installed
No custom kernal
TWRP 3.0.2-0
File wich may be broken: cloud.directupload.net/dfZs
Is there an easyer way than resetting my whole phone to get it to work ?
I'm sorry for language mistakes or maybe leaving relevant information.
Thank you for help

I've had same problem today, my solution is restore "System" part (only system) from old backup, it saved my data and OP3 works fine after that

Wipe system, then flash OOS and it should work fine. If it doesn't Im afraid you need to do a full clean install since it isn't system related then.

How to repair Wileyfox Swift when I can get into TWRP but not bootloader

Hi. I've just updated CM13 to the latest nightly using TWRP, but now the system just boots into TWRP - that's whether I select boot system, recovery, or bootloader. I tried restoring from a TWRP backup or another copy of the nightlies zip - it all seems to work fine but doesn't solve the problem. I can connect to the 'recovery' device using adb but adb restart bootloader just loads TWRP again. I've tried wiping first the dalvik/cache, then everything but the internal card, then finally everything but nothing seems to work.
I did get something a little bit like this a few days ago because SuperSU was complaining that I needed to update the binary. I let it do it the way that it suggested one does when TWRP is installed and afterwards couldn't reboot into system, but after a few minutes of frustration sorted things by wiping various partitions.
I attempted to load the full system restore files (cm-13.1-ZNH2KAS29G-crackling-signed-fastboot-74bb753396.zip) using TWRP but that didn't work (I imagine because they're designed to be run via fastboot). I tried loading them via the ADB sideloader option included in TWRP but it failed after a few seconds (I think the message was 'transmitting 0.0x'
I opened that zip and copied the various files to the external card, but I then baulked at installing the image files manually because the only partition option I'm given is boot and my understanding is that each image file should go into its own partition.
The only other potentially pertinent information I can think of:
TWRP keeps reporting "E: Unable to find partition size for '/recovery'"
Has anyone got any ideas please? I had been musing that my next phone would have OTG and NFC, but I wasn't planning to upgrade just yet if I don't absolutely have to.
Have you got it fixed? And if yes - how? I am stuck in a similar situation and can't find a solution for it. Tnx in advance.

[solved ]Update with Flashfire and current factory image leads to bootloop into twrp

Hi,
I wanted to update my Pixel C to the most current factory image with flashfire as i did it before a few times without problems.
So I DL'd current factory image from https://developers.google.com/android/images#ryu, opened it in flashfire and said it should flash the normal partitions except recovery as i don't want that it overwrites my TWRP.
Flashfire analyzed the zip file and after i said "flash" it restarted my Pixel into a black screen. At this point i was wondering that nothing more happened.
I waited for 10 minutes so that maybe something in the background could happen, but there was no further action. The screen kept black.
After these 10 minutes i restarted the device but now it always runs into TWRP directly instead of starting the system
I also tried to install the zip manually in TWRP but it tells me
"Could not find 'META-INF/com/google/android/update-binary' in the zip file.
Error installing the zip file '/usb-otg/ryu-n2g48c-factory-0bc0ee15.zip'"
As you can see from the error message i also tried to dl the file again and install it via OTG but the same thing.
If I go into the file manager in TWRP i can still access the folders from the sdcard.
The bootloader is unlocked of course.
Anyone an idea what i can do without loosing all the data?
Thanks in advance
Download the full system image and extract it. There should be a flash_all-file (bat for windows of sh for linux). Open it with an editor and remove the "-w" option in fastboot. "-w" is the switch for wipe. After you removed it, you can flash the complete image and your system should boot again into android. After that you can install a custom recovery, etc. again.
Thank you peter, worked like a charm for the system flash. Now follows the TWRP etc again
EDIT: ok, the system flash was the only thing that worked like a charm. I tried flashing TWRP with NRT but didn't work. I am stuck now at a "no command" screen when i start the device.
To install the custom recovery NRT tells me that i will loose all my data, so i wanted to backup everything.
Unfortunately i can't backup everything now as the temp booted TWRP demands a password to decrypt the sdcard, but i only have a pattern and no password set.
So now i try to flash everything again and to install twrp without loosing all the data.
Hey everyone I have flashed android 7.1.2 August again and android started afterwards without any problems. I was able to restore the backup of all the apps from Google.
Than I wanted to get back root and flashed TWRP with Nexus Root Toolset, but now only TWRP starts every time I switch on the tablet. Any ideas what I can do?
EDIT: I fixed it somehow with flashing the whole firmware package again and than the TWRP wich broke the startup again so i ended up in a TWRP bootloop. Therefore i flashed android again and TWRP 3.0.0.0 than TWRP 3.0.2.4 (something like that) and after like 3 to 4 different flashing steps it worked again. I have no idea what happened during the first flash of Andoir 7.1.2 but i think that something broke there.

Mi Max 3 6/128 SoftBrick - What to Do?

Hello,
I have a Mi Max 3 6GB/128GB which I got from the UK which arrived unlocked and with Global Stable ROM installed which actually updated to V10.3.3.0.PEDMIXM by OTA - I tested.
fastboot getvar anti shows failed, so I assume no Anti Rollback Protection, which I thought a little strange, it being MIUI 10 with (after OTA) June 2019 security patch.
I spent the last couple weeks setting up the phone to my liking (I have 300 apps installed) and finally finished yesterday.
Then I wanted to uninstall some Google/Facebook/Xiaomi bloatware using the excellent "Xiaomi ADB/Fastboot Tools".
I was pretty careful in my opinion to only remove the safe ones (the tool claims to only show you the safe ones) like Music, Video, MiPay, MiCloud, MiForum, MiSIM and all Facebook in the ADB section of the tool.
The I switched in fastboot and thought it would be a good idea to wipe Cache (nothing else).
Upon restart the Mi Max 3 first shows the black boot screen with unlock written at the bottom, then changes to the normal boot boot screen with MIU and the points at the bottom showing that it is busy booting. It stayed there for a while and I thought maybe it was rebuilding the cache and it took that long, but after 30 min still no luck.
Then I fired up the "Xiaomi ADB/Fastboot Tools" on my PC again and it told me the phone was in ADB mode, I could reboot into system mode, where the same thing happened - no progress in booting.
I cannot turn off my phone either, but I can switch from sastem boot (which gets stuck) into fastboot mode via ADB.
Would someone know what's wrong and what I can do to get my phone out of that bootloop while hopefully maintaining all my data and setups, on which I worked for weeks?
Thank you so much for your help!
P.S .: In case it could help: I could read out the phone properties of the Mi Max using the "Xiaomi ADB / Fastboot Tools" while it was softbricked, meaning the ro. init. persist. sys. and dalvik. values of the smartphone. I am happy to post them here, if requested.
Hi,
Do you have an SD card? If so, remove it, because as you cleared the cache, I think it might be a problem with encryption (lost reference).
In your case, I believe a reset will work again, but you will lose application configuration data. Via ADB you can backup files only.
If you do not have unlock bootloader, be very careful as you will not be able to flash TWRP or others.
Good luck!
Thanks, the phone came from the vendor with Global Stable ROM and unlocked. It may be an unofficial unlock, though I was able to install OTAs.
I don't have SDCard.
How can I do ADB backup?
I was able to flash official TWRP just a few minutes but it couldn't access data, maybe because it is encrypted. Now I think I will try and install latest Orange Fox r10 stable, which I think should be able to handle decryption, so that maybe I will be able to get at my date.
Any other advice?
Hi,
Now that you have TWRP, clear cache / dalvik from TWRP and try starting again, maybe start system.
About copy via adb follows a link below:
https://www.lifewire.com/use-minimal-adb-and-fastboot-4582201
in step 2
"
The command to move files from your computer to your phone is adb push.
To move files from your phone to your computer the command is adb pull.
"
Through TWRP you may also be able to back up. Go to (mount partitions) and select all partitions.
Make sure the TWRP MTP option is on, it will allow the device to be mounted via usb on your computer.
I use TWRP I use nijel8, it works very well.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-max-3/development/recovery-twrp-3-2-3-1-nitrogen-t3866084
If you can't launch system, you will have to reinstall the Rom.
Good luck!
PS.
More help for adb.

Thanks for your advice!
I first used the official TWRP and I was able to flash it and start it.
But then the wipe of cache and dalvik failed.
And I could not mount data etc..
When I tried to repair the file system with TWRP I got error 255 - unable to repair data from fsck.f2fs.
Then I saw in your signature that you use nijel8's TWRP and I read that thread, and I started to understand, that my TWRP errors most likely originate from TWRP not being able to decrypt my partitions.
However, towards the end of the thread it seemed that nijel8 stopped working on that project and then Xiaomi once again changed the encryption in MIUI 10/Pie and so it was recommended first to use an obscure Chinese TWRP and then to move on to Orange Fox Recovery Project, which supposedly can handle the decryption better. So that's what I got and I am just about to install it and see if I can rescue or even repair anything.
If you have any other tips for me, I would be very grateful.
You have explored the possibilities well, at the moment I dont have more options regarding current system recovery / backup.
The encryption error resolves you by formatting the user partition by TWRP, in the option to format f2fs plus the installation of a custom Rom or Xiaomi.eu.
Look for tutorials and other reviews before testing these procedures.
Remember that there is a big achance of your ARB model as well.
Good luck.
PS. You can try dirty flash. Find an recovery Rom same version, and flash via TWRP.

Using TWRP recovery to repair LineageOS System

Hello,
i have run into a problem with my BQ Aquaris M5 (piccolo) and would be gratefull for someone to help.
What happened:
Yesterday plugged phone in over night for charging and today I tried to unlock it (Code). Every time I entered the code the phone did not unlock. I just saw the unlock screen again and again. The phone uses an unofficial microG rom, so instabilities were expected. I decided a restart might be needed, so I restartet it normally. On boot the phone got stuck on the LineageOS startup until it put me into TWRP after 30s.
What I tried:
I have a TWRP backup from beginning of this year and made one in TWRP after the error had happened. Just restoring from the latest backup yields to either TWRP complaining "can`t mount system" or working fine but running into the boot problem again.
Restoring from the older backup always leads to a "can`t mount system" error.
What I would like to have:
A functioning phone with the app data from todays TWRP backup.
I am only an educated beginner when it comes to custom ROMs, so any help regarding specific order of operations or possible solutions would be very appreciated.
Other info:
LineageOS 15.1 microG unofficial
TWRP 3.4.0
rooted through magisk

Instabilities expected. But not because of microG. I guess, it's a hardware or magisk issue.
I would try to restore newest backup, try what files i see on computer through usb cable.
I would wipe system and re-install the exactly same lineageOS version. That reverts magisk installation and every other system modification without deleting user data. We caches and restart.

Wiping system and reinstalling the original system .zip does not work. It leads to Error 7 which seems to be caused by 'can´t mount system'.
Restoring to an even older backup before I installed anything does not work either.
If I try to run "repair filesystem" on the system partition I get error 4 in TWRP. (No Idea what that means)
I can normally access the phones sd and internal storage through usb.

As you might have read in my original post: I was on android 8 and using twrp 3.4. It still did not work.
I have now switched to an unofficial CrDroid ROM with Android 9, as any attempts to restore my backups or install my used ROM lead to errors. This makes the restore of app data difficult, but my smartphone is back to action. I still do not know what caused the errors.

TWRP New install , New Phone issues fastboot

Did standard unlock bootloader (went fine)
Moved a TWRP zip onto phone sd root directory (twrp-3.4.0-0-guacamole-unified-Q-mauronofrio.zip)
adp fastboot boot twrp-3.4.0-0-guacamole-unified-Q-mauronofrio.img. (went fine)
But when I look for the zip file (or any system files) it does not show up , even in TWRP file manager.
Redid data wipe and it tells me "Failed to mount /system_root and /vendor
I am 99% sure that its just because these will not mount:
Does anyone have any idea what I can do to get these mounted to start a regular TWRP flash ?
Well I tried adjusting data format and ended up losing the Stock Rom.
And the stuff will still not mount.
UPDATE, rewiped data and got stock rom to load.
Now Data will load but vendor will not.
UPDATE : data and vendor will mount after data wipe. But still cannot see anything that is placed on device.
Such as the zip files I need to install.
UPDATE: now I sideloaded TWRP onto new phone, but now cannot get it to reboot into Rom.
Its odd after plugging it in , it went to a stock recovery even when TWRP was installed.
Found the issues, finally had to run MSM download tool and fix everything from there and start from scratch.
Ended up installing TWRP from fastboot flash recovery image.
Now to get root going on it and magisk.
What device do you have?
You're in the 7T forum but saying you used the 7 Pro twrp.
If you're using 7T, the reason why you don't see internal storage is because TWRP cannot decrypt on OOS (this is not because of a mounting error, this is simply due how oneplus has implemented their encryption).
And on 7T you don't need a zip of any sort to install twrp.
Reading the actual twrp thread would be a good start.

Yes, I read though the threads, But got so bombarded with pages of stuff kind of lost track.
This is why I posted . Also it is a combined Christmas gift for my daughter that she cannot know I am working on. So I think I tried to rush it when she was in school.
Found out about the decryption part after I started the process. Then it was too late and ended up having to start over with tools.
It was a newb move to end up this far and try to rush it.
People did help me get back on track and now I am working on figuring out Magisk. (good help on magisk threads).
Thanks for your response.
