I have a Sony Z1 Compact D5503 rooted, dual recovery with android 5.1.1...
I Unrooted and flash the zip of magisk 6 with locked bootloader.
Now the phone doesn't show anything, so I decided to flash stock rom with flashtool, everything OK, but when the phone is loading reboot and start a infinite bootloop
what happened??? Is my phone hard bricked? any solution?? please help me.
Wipe data / cache.
If not work,bReflash the firmware with flashtool.
Check the userdata and app list options, it should restore your phone (factory reset)

Okay, I was on AOKP M4 and I wanted to upgrade to M5.
So I backup everything and make a backup of my ROM. I wipe the phone and caches and flash M5 with the GAPPS, with the latest CWM touch recovery. When my phone reboots I notice I have the same wallpaper as before and when I unlock my phone my pin is still requested and all of my apps and settings stayed exactly the same. I was never asked to sign into my Google account and the start up/set up screen never came up. I checked to see if I even updated and yes I was on M5. Now the ROM isn't very fast or smooth and I get a lot of force closes and things not working properly.
I tried the whole process again with the CWM non-touch recovery, and again my phone did not fully wipe and all my apps and setting remained exactly the same.
I tried it again with the TWRP touch recovery, and again my phone did not fully wipe and everything was the same and my phone remains kind of slow and I'm getting a lot of force closes.
Why is my phone not fully wiping? What can I do to fix this?
I would really appreciate some help!
you need to wipe factory / data.
wiping cache and dalvik doesn't wipe "/system/etc etc etc"
1. Wipe Factory
2. Wipe Data
3. Wipe Dalvik
4. Flash ROM
5. Flash Gapps.
6. Flash Kernel
for full wipe.

Yes, that is what I'm doing. I'm wiping factory/data and I'm still having the same problem
Like with the TWRP recovery, I went to wipe, I hit factory reset, then cache, then dalvik cache and then flashed the ROM and GAPPS and all my apps and settings stayed the same. It was like if I had dirty flashed it. I don't understand what's going on.

***FORMAT /SYSTEM*** (under mount in CWM I believe)

What does that do exactly? Would I have to worry about my media and sd card being wiped?

Okay thank you, I guess this time in TWRP I'll do factory reset, cache, dalvik cache, and system and see if it works out
Okay, so I did factory reset, cache, dalvik cache, and format system.
I flashed M5 and GAPPS, rebooted and everything was still the same. My phone did not fully wipe.
I don't understand what's going. I'm so frustrated right now

I would do a factory reset, if that doesn`t help flash a stock rom and root your phone again. BTW don`t you have a nandroid backup to revert to

I have a nandroid backup, but that doesn't solve the problem of my phone not wiping.
I guess I'll unroot my phone and lock the bootloader and re-do everything to see. I don't understand why my phone isn't wiping correctly.
sometimes cwm just doesnt work with factory wipe. i've used it a few times now and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt. i have no idea why. you can try doing a factory wipe from the phone settings>backup and reset. ive only done that twice but it worked both times. if that still doesnt work just go with a fresh flash of google images using fastboot.

Init.d folders can only be wiped with a factory reset afaik, or manualy off course. By locking and unlocking the phone you perform a factory reset anyway, so i would flash a stock rom and start fresh. No chance on left files or scripts. You can do it with GNex Toolkit, option 8. Put the downloaded and not extracted .tgz file here C:\Galaxy Nexus ToolKit\put_google_factory_image_here and flash.
Thanks guys, I'll try that!
I'm on TrueAncestor now and want to try out Gin2ICS. Do I need to flash the stock .ftf ,root and install CWM all over again or can I just wipe and factory reset in CWM and flash the new ROM?
Yup! You need to do a factory reset if you don't want to get a bootloop
And also don't forget to 'wipe cache'..
If your current fw is match or compatible with gin2ics, you don't need to flash fw again. Just flash the rom via cwm and don't forget to factory reset and wipe cache before

actually you only need to wipe dalvik-cache, the rom installation it self will do a wipe data/factory reset and wipe cache.
And backing up the previous ROM should do just that (back it up) in every aspect (restore apps, widgets/shortcut setups)? And what about restoring myapps back on a new ROM im flashing? Do i have to just do it the slow way with play store or is there a better way? Same question with restoring home screen setups/widgets/app placement when flashing over to a new ROM? Can Titanium backup do this? BTW Im usingTWRP for recovery.

I went from stock GB to .58 enhanced+TrueAncestor following the ROM-guide for TA. Should I have done any factory resets/cache resets and what not during this? Everything works fine but I dont want any trouble later.
Some custom roms require you to factory reset . Some wipe cache and factory reset automatically
So I have xperia arc S ..
I have installed new rom and I forgot to wipe the cache so now when I turn on phone it just write SONY and then nothing else.. and I can't come in recovery.. to wipe these.. how can I come in recovery?? I have rooted phone..
thanks !!

Saludos.
If you did factory reset, then wiping cache is unnecessary. Factory reset already wipes the cache partition aswell.

with firmware and CWM embed, than take hold back key to start phone
You probably dont have unlocked bootloader and you installed recovery with x-parts from google play store or runned a cmd file to install it.
When you installed the custorm rom you automaticaly lost your recovery. Each time you install a rom you must install recovery too.
Now that your phone wont boot you must flash stock ics/gb again with flash tool seus or pc companion.
Seus and PCC work only with locked bootloaders.
Guys I rooted my phone (nexus 5x 16gb) I unlocked the bootloader and I instaled a twrp custom recovery... If you do a factory reset you will just erase all your data, it wont touch the system

You don't need a backup in TWRP. Best way to get back to factory is use image from google and flashall in fastboot. This will erase userdata, system, and recovery all back to stock. Best way to do it. Once you do flashall you can lock bootloader if you want though it's better to stay unlocked if ever there are problems.
If you are giving your phone to someone else make sure to delete your google account to disable device protection so someone else can use it.
