Hey folks,
Im in a bit of a pinch, I could not get PTP transfer to see any of my pictures I have taken from my recent vacation. In an effort to "get stuff done" i used a file explorer to move my DCIM/Camera folder to Downloads and now all my pictures are gone from the Photos app...
I have a few pictures that I have not backed up that are quite valuable to me, Is there a way to recover those? Is there an easy way to image the memory and use a 3rd party block level recovery software to scan for JPG signatures?
I tried accessing shell via adb and just running find . on /sdcard but unfortunately that doesn't list any of what i was looking for.
Any help would be great, thanks
PS Im running stock Rom/not rooted/5x on 7.0

Are you sure the picture are gone or just not displaying in photo app. Sometimes they won't display in photos app but are still physically on sdcard viewable from file explorer.
There are apps that can refresh the media cache or you can probably copy the images back using builtin android file explorer. I wouldn't erase the media cache as it could start renaming your sound files during recreation which could mess up your ringtones.

Hi all,
I make some pics with my camera, than I moved using root explore (select all and than move) from DCIMto another folder that I created.
Here ok, but the problem is that I did more pics with the camera and had the same name as the previous.....I didn't recognize and I paste all the new pics in the same folder that I created before....the app replaced all the oldest pics with the new ones, and I can't find in the folder all the pics together.....
I think that the pics are been replaced as they have the same name...
Could you please help how to find the files? I can only see the last pics!
Many thank
Ps: no message from the app to confirm to replace the files after I paste!
If the pictures have been overwritten then you may be out of luck. Download Recuva and do a full scan of your SDCard if it finds them you may be able to recover them.
Similiar thing happenned to me and I lost 1500 pictures. After hours of searching for the right program I recovered over 1000 off them back using a program called Recover It or something like that. Recover it should be a free program is I'm not mistaken.
Thank-you All for your idea....I record the photo using card recovery.
The pics have a small resolution (800x470) but are perfectly good...
Thank for your support
Hi everyone, I'm having a real problem when connecting my LTE GNexus to the computer. I wanted to copy the TitaniumBackup folder to my desktop then replace it with the one I copied over from my old Droid Incredible, but when I look at the TitaniumBackup folder on the internal storage of my Nexus, it shows as empty, containing zero files. This is impossible, as I've done a backup already and even checked with ES File Explorer that all of the backup files ARE in fact present within the folder. However, the folder appears as empty on my PC and when I copy it, only copies an empty folder.
Furthermore, I then deleted the ENTIRE TitaniumBackup folder via ES, and the computer then showed the folder was gone (so it it's not like it's not reacting to changes made). I then redid the backup, which recreated and populated a new TitaniumBackup folder, but when I plugged it back in to my PC, the new folder didn't even SHOW UP. So now I have an entire folder that for some reason is completely invisible to the PC.
I don't know if this an issue caused by the Nexus or ICS specifically, the MTP protocol it uses to connect (instead of USB mass storage), or maybe even Titanium Backup. All other folders appear to be visible and the files inside are present (to my knowledge). What in the world is going on?!
PS: Please don't just give me a workaround for the current situation like "just upload it to Dropbox". I need to know how to fix this bigger issue for future use. Though if someone could recommend to me a way to upload whole folders to the cloud somewhere (Dropbox, Gmail, anything that allows me to pull it down via a PC) that would obviously be appreciated, as every app seems to only want to upload individual files, even the new DB. THANK YOU!
Hi,
I just had the same issue with the TitaniumBackup folder not showing up in windows explorer after the first backup.
Restart of the phone helped!
Cheers
Simon
its MTP, this has been bugging me too, but for now i got a workaround (i know...)
get SDrescan, its free. it will force your phones media storage to rescan your files. once you do, you'll see your files appear in the explorer. rebooting your phone also triggers this
Thanks everyone! Man, MTP sucks...

SDRescan did not work for me. Sits there forever saying "preparing" (I did let it sit for 30 min).
So, is there any solution for that?
Missing many files/folders on MTP.
This is really ****ting me up the [email protected] wall. I've trie everything, even sdrescan does **** all. Why does this issue exist and why the **** has't it been fixed
Using wifi, I've worked around it by using some of the features in AirDroid (sets up a web server on your GNex and you can login via a web interface on your PC). File Expert can also talk to windows shares on the same wifi network, I've used this to move around some large files as well.
I'm also having this issue, I've already tried fix permissions in recovery, did a symlink (not sure if I did it correct though) and now I'm trying sdrescan.
I'm thinking of going back to cyanogenmod backing up my entire sdcard to pc flash jelly bean and put back every file...
Cause pictures I've taken with Jelly bean are showing up in the gallery and via usb, so i'm guessing copying everything back to it will do the trick.
Most annoying thing is I can flash a new rom whenever and where ever I want and be able to fix my issues, but this sdcard thing is way out of my league...
I find a solution here :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28606823&postcount=21
Hope it fixed the problem, I had exactly the same one
Easy workaround : in the app X-plore file manager, long-press on your TitaniumBackup folder, choose "Create Zip", then Ok (doesnt matter where you put the zip, you will cancel/delete it soon)
VoilĂ ! My files appeared instantly in Windows as soon as X-Plore started creating the zip file. So, cancel that dialog, and enjoy your titanium backup files.

Restart phone as previously stated. Worked for me too. :good:
Reboot didn't worked for me.
I tried through ES File Explorer to copy the Titanium folder in my computer via LAN.When it started copying files, then the folder magically showed its content. Then transferred via MTP as it's a lot faster than 802.11g.
Hope someone finds it helpful.
I'm a complete n00b. I'm just trying to figure out on how to send videos from pc to my phone for a while now. HTC sync manager allows only adding mp3 files to the library but not video files to send to the phone.. And copy-pasting directly on the storage card also isn't helping me. When I copy paste it to my storage card, i can't find that file on my phone again. it only can be seen through astro file manager. any other way to send files from pc to phone which can be seen on my phone after i disconnect it from pc?
Go to settings - apps - All - Gallery - clear data/cache
Copy paste your movie file, open the gallery and let it rebuild it's cache/data.

Thanks! And is this the actual way to transfer videos from pc to One V?
NO.. need to do that when the gallery cannot see your video.
To transfer, just put your phone on Disk Drive mode, then just copy from PC and paste to SDcard.
So , does it work or not ? I can't think any other reason why the file is not showing on Gallery unless it can't read the video file format.

It worked perfectly. My first android phone. Will take some time to get familiar with this OS. Thanks again!
Hello guys,
I have a bigger problem I hope you can help me with...
My internal storage is somehow messed up. This has effects on MTP and on some apps like the stock camera.
When accessing my internal storage by MTP from PC, only a few folders and files are visible. In contrast, if I list the content of "/mnt/sdcard" or "/storage/sdcard0" they show all my files and folders as one would expect. Also, files visible on the PC are inside this path and even when i copy a file from the PC, it is placed here.
The more serious problem is, that some apps are not able to find their files and folders inside die storage anymore. As an example, the camera app asks me to insert a sd card before taking a picture and Winamp doesn't find my music anymore.
What i tried so far:
Copying files from and to storage with Dropsync, FolderSync and ES Explorer: works without problems
I checked the rights of the files with the terminal: nothing interesting there
I cleared my whole storage (thanks to Unlock procedure) and flashed a new Custom ROM
I drank a lot of coffee because it got late
Nothing worked.
Please help, Thanks!
So thats me again.
I finally found the correct allready existing post. In this thread user dlzinc describes that one has to fix the permissions for /data/media. Good to know that i was right with permissions, bad that i didn't go through with it in the first place.

Hey guys, I recently transferred my photos from phone storage to sd card now it is not showing in my gallery. I am pretty certain I found the answer somewhere on here before but I can't find it anymore.
1. The pictures are there in my sd card I can view it in my a file explorer, but it does not show in "gallery"
2. I tried clearing data for gallery and media. I also tried force closing them, still a no go.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks!
You can always go to your DCIM (or DCMI i really forget) -> media ->whatevs folder you got and put your photos there. Some of my photos don't appear in the stock htc gallery either. Must be directory thing. I just use google photos but DCIM is the main directory so it should work.

Yeah I've done that before, but I remember the was a really simple solution. I think I came across it in one of the rom threads a few months ago, but can't remember.
Aside from restarting the phone there's always this.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.promethyl.force.media.scanner&hl=en
Clear the cache with an app like sdmaid.. It is probably retaining old links etc
I wish I stole my HTC M9.
Is there a ".nomedia" file hidden in the folder that contains your pictures? If yes your problems should be solved if you delete it.
