Updating Freedom OS to 1.4.4 - OnePlus 3 Questions & Answers

Currently i have Freedom OS v1.4.3 installed on my OnePlus 3 with elementalX kernel and Xposed. I am looking to update it to v1.4.4. What would be the easiest way of updating it without losing app data and customization? Would dirty flash work?

CM9 on Arc S

I already have CM7 on my Arc S, and been trying to update to CM9, but I don't get past the boot process. I read through the Arc S development thread, but some questions remain:
1) can I update without losing the apps and data I have currently on my phone? or do I have to wipe data, system and cache to update to CM9?
2) do I need to flash a new kernel through fastboot, or will the current one I flashed for CM7 work?
thanks.

[Q] Updating current rom to the most recent build

I have Carbon ROM which I am thoroughly enjoying. I would like to upgrade to the newest build which I have downloaded on my phone. Is there anyway to update without having to redownload all my apps/reinstall via a backup? Can I just flash over it without wiping my phone?

Flash the ROM. Then wipe cache and dalvik. Then reboot.

What about GApps? Will I have to reinstall those as well or are those unaffected?

Yeah, forgot about those! :what:
It's the Wipe Data \ Factory Reset that gets rid of the apps, so throwing in a format /system into your dirty flash won't hurt...

Does flashtool show any bad blocks?? Can you see the kernel logo??
Do you wipe your dalvik cache after changing kernel? If not then the rom will probably fail.
With full wipe?

You should try to reinstall Sphinx 2.0 then Freegee and choose TWRP to replace Philztouch.

Did you have Submitted installed and forgot to uninstall the overlays? Also did you full wipe or at the very least wipe Dalvik and Cache?

Do I have to uninstall substratum themes? Yes I didn't do that, but I did wipe caches. Do I have to wipe system as well?

You need to remove all Substratum themes/overlays or you'll likely have problems. Completely uninstall the overlays if you haven't already and do so I'm the future. It's easy to forget but you need to get into the habit of doing so before you update your OS.
Doesn't happen all the time in my experience but can cause problems like yours often enough.

It's always a good idea to start from scratch if you have problems but if for whatever reason that's not ideal then in TWRP tap install and scroll down to the substratum folder and select "SubstratumRescue.zip". Flash that and it will allow to to boot up again.
