So guys I would really appreciate some help on this. I dropped my phone the other day and a very minor crack happened on the corner of the screen. Now every time I turn on my phone or reset it, it says that the phone has detected screen damage and goes on "Hardware Key Control Mode" and everything is disabled.
The rest of the screen looks totally fine and the crack is on the bottom corner where the hardware keys are, and those keys work fine as well. I believe the rest of the screen still functions but I cant remove this mode. I turned off the phone and pressed all 3 buttons and then tried disabling it but it goes back into "Hardware Key Control Mode" after restarting. Is there a way I can remove this somehow? I dont mind flashing if necessary. Would REALLY appreciate any help, thanks in advance.

Your phone is likely detecting a damaged digitizer. The screen will be unable to detect touches even if you could disable this mode.

Hmm is there any way to disable it though? Because the hardware keys that are on the screen where it is cracked are working fine... also on the log in screen when you swipe to unlock I can see the background moving when i swipe over it.

I'm not aware of any way to disable it outside of flashing a custom ROM. Do you have TWRP installed, and if so, can you use your touch screen in recovery?

No I did not install TWRP yet. Should I try doing it now? Will I need any touch screen features while doing it?
I installed TWRP on my phone using the phone itself. I don't think there's any other way to flash it, but i could be wrong.

Oh ok, thanks for your help. I will give it a go tonight, some people are saying you can install it using ADB driver commands from cmd prompt. I just hope that after installing a custom rom the Hardware key control feature will go away, because I was reading somewhere that it is stored in a different partition or something.

Hey again, So yea I tried everything . Im trying to use the ABD cmds but since I cant swipe on the screen its not letting me to press "allow" for usb debugging mode, so i cant root then install TWRP .Im stuck here. Is the phone garbage because of this "Hardware Key Control Mode" ? I cant find any way to turn it off or remove it completely. The screen only has one minor crack, and that location near the hardware keys is working fine.

Hey guys I really need help here. I have no clue how but my phone into some weird mode displaying the message in the title. I have a stock Nexus and didn't try to flash or anything like that.
I tried everything on the internet but nothing seems like its working. I am a real noob and need any advice. Is there a way to get the phone back to normal without having to unlock it, root or something like that?
you most likely turned it on without realizing that your fingers are on the volume down and power at the same time. try pulling the battery and turn on the phone again

You put your phone into download mode somehow.
At least, if your title is what your talking about.....then yea, your in download mode.
If you didn't flash anything....try just pulling the battery and restarting the phone.
I tried that. Nothing is working; the phone gets stuck on the google logo and then the logo itself goes and comes back really quickly then the phones turn off. When the phone turns off it takes 10 mins to get it up again!! No clue...
Now the phone won't turn on.

The phone isn't turning on anymore
Is the battery now dead? Will the phone turn on when its plugged in?
I got back to the same screen now, I removed the battery and phone won't even turn off. It's stuck on the same screen even without the battery??? what's going on?
Update: Ok the phone turned off and then I tried to turn it on. It goes to the Google logo and then the screen goes blank.

Can you get to the bootloader?
Vol. Down + vol. Up and power together.
If so then you'll be fine. Just flash a factory image.
There are a few threads that will go through the process in more detail than I am willing to at 6:08am!
Is there a way to take my photos and contact from the phone while it's in the downloading mode or any other way before I flash it. Or am I screwed? I don't have my stuff synced with google+

If the phone doesnt completely reboots to android, I dont think you can get your photo's.
Can you still get in fastboot mode?
my phone is doing the same thing, the downloading screen. I am totally stock, and i can easily turn my phone on and off except i wanna get into bootloader to flash CWM recovery and i cant do so because this screen is popping up.

he can if adb is already running on the system. seems to be that he can't.
@op, if you're stuck on download mode, try odin (damn i really hate suggesting it); i was trying to see if heimdall supports our device, have yet to find proof.

Is there a big green outlined arrow box at the top of your screen that says start, and it points to your power button? If so you are just at the Odin screen instead of your boot loader screen. You get here by just holding vol down and power instead of of holding both vol up/down and power which would bring you to the bootlloader. Also your phone obviously needs to be off before doing either of these. If in fact you are at the Odin screen simply push power and your phone will boot.

It sounds like your volume-down button might be stuck in the pressed-down position (or just shorted out). If that is the case, every time you try to turn your phone on, you will see the screen you described. You can try pressing the volume buttons many times to see if you can get the volume-down button unstuck. If you can't, you can replace the buttons fairly cheaply.
Of course, it could be caused by something else entirely, but that's what it seems like to me.

If the vol-down button is stuck, try booting it up with both up and down held. You might be able to get either recovery or bootloader.

Hi, did You try to connect your phone at your computer? If works then try to make a factory reset. If not go to your phone provider and reclaim your warranty, if your phone don't have warranty try to unlock your bootloader and root your phone with jmz method (look in the original developer section) then install the recovery and flash with the totem custon firmware, just remember to S-OFF or the kernel will not install correctly and you will experiment wifi and signal issues.

Did you do anything with your phone, like flashing a ROM or kernal ? has the touchscreen worked before and now just suddenly stopped or has it always been like this? if you cannot do anything with it, a factory reset would be my best bet. if even that does not work, and you didnt flash anything custom, then i would bring it back to where you got it and ask for a refund.
IF you have a custom recovery installed, you can do a reset from there. if not -- use ADB.
If you dont have ADB set up on your computer, google a guide for how to do it. Then you can hook up your phone to your computer, and do the command for doing a facotry reset. (have to do it this way because you cannot use the touchscreen.)
ADB command for wiping data( if you need it):
adb shell
recovery --wipe_data
Okay, so I have a rooted, stock 4.4.2 G pad. I was never able to successfully get a recovery and I have no backups. The issue started when I used G2 xposed and I changed the multi tasking tiles. Now the navigation and status bars are no longer visible and I can't do anything in the tablet because the error message pops up and it won't let me navigate. The error comes back every time I turn the tablet on. Someone please help. ?
A factory reset should sort that out.

Have you tried the default way of factory resetting? from powered off do the following : hold power and volume down, when logo appears release power, now also hold volume up and hold power again so you have all buttons pressed. You should be given the option to reset.
Good luck.

I've tried that. When i do that, under where it says confirmed in the upper left hand, it says "Secure booting error!" I'm pretty sure it has to do with the failed custom recovery. Thanks for trying to help. (But don't think I wouldn't welcome more help )

You will need to touch quickly. Atfer the force close message close, you have .5 second to touch the screen before it shows up again.
Happened to mine. In my case, factory reset did not help. Flash stock kdz will solve the problem.
D'u know this ? It's a particular way to boot the device pressing power volup and voldown. Someone know how it is booted up?
I was looking for find the related partition but i was not able to do it. Someone know more about it?
Maybe another way to try to bypass the bootloader check.

The booting using hardware keys method seems to be magic/voodoo art.
Ive struggled yesterday for hours to get into recovery and accidentally found this key combo.
The method specified in different threads didn't seem to work. I think the problem is that "the phone should be off" part. If phone is just rebooting they the keys do not work maybe.
Pressing all 3 keys switches off the phone for me. I mean it does not automatically start to LG logo. perhaps thats the trick.
I was worried I will break the screen or digitizer with all this key presses session The best and reliable way to to do "adb reboot recovery" but phone has to connect to adb and it does not if its screwed and stuck in boot loader, so we're stuck there.
Best of luck.
