Ever since I updated to Android N, my computer has not been recognizing my phone as a Nexus 5X device. I believe that this definitely has to do with the phone because I have the drivers installed and other android devices that I have work properly.
Please help.
Did you install the device drivers via the 15 second adb tool?
I am having the same issue and have search and tried every thing I can find. The computer will see it and Nexus Root Tool can flash and control it, but it will not pop up on my computer for me to access the phone storage.

My Gnex refuses to install drivers. (windows 7) i tried on my brothers computer and it works fine but it will not work on mine. Anyone know where to find some drivers that will work. Im currently failing hard on samsungs site.
Can you explain what's happening when you try to install the drivers? Do they install correctly without any errors?
No they dont. I plug it in and it fails to install everytime ive tried with different cables and this is my second gnex having the exact same problem.

Because the problem is your computer/OS/you, not Galaxy Nexus.
Try GNex Toolkit to install drivers. If even that fails i would suggest to get your computer repaired or use brothers
PS don't forget to disconnect your phone before installing drivers.
Hmmm i thought it would be an easy driver download fix.

See the link i gave you, there's another two options that doesn't involve installing GNex Toolbox:
http://theunlockr.com/2009/10/06/how-to-set-up-adb-usb-drivers-for-android-devices/

+1 to GNex Toolbox; worked like a charm for me!
i had a problem with the usb drivers too using toolkit but following the manual install instructions worked for me. i had to go into system->device manager on my pc and install from there using the manual install instructions provided with the toolkit(option 1 and then option 3 using the toolkit). good luck.
i had problems with using the toolkit as well, so i downloaded the pdanet drivers and installed and that worked

This worked for me too. PDAnet installed drivers properly. Tried everything else didn't work.
I know this is a dumb question but I gotta ask. Did you right click the installer and choose "Run as Administrator?" Sometimes that's all it needs (even when your login has administrative privileges, you're still not Administrator.)

try this plug your phone in and make sure usb debugging is checked on the phone(settings->developer options) then on your pc go to control panel->system->device manager. when your phone is plugged in you should see android 1.0 or galaxy and right click and select update driver. if you see nothing here then try plugging the usb in a different port on the back of your pc. Then select browse device for driver, after that choose option "let me pick from a list of drivers" there you should see google or samsung as a option and select it. if that worked you should be good to go.
Ok tried every USB port, still nothing and this is the error message i get when i try to install through the device manager.

you got this error after doing the manual install and choose from a list of drivers and found google in that list?
if so then uninstall all samsung drivers, pdanet and drivers. then reinstall the samsung usb driver first then try the manual install again. make sure you have the phone plugged in and usb debugging enabled when doing the manual install in device manager.
I have exactly the same problem. Root, pushing files, everything works, except MTP. Any suggestions?
Downloaded the latest Acer driver, but windows 7 keeps saying their 2006 driver is the best available. I really believe that this is what is causing so many root/unlock/flash problems.
What is the solution?

Plug in your tablet, let windows load it up, then press the windows key and break, then go to hardware/ device manager (sorry its been awhile since I ran windows), and then select your tab, then uninstall the drivers. Unplug the tablet, reboot, once back into windows install the acer drivers with their installation application, THEN plug in the tablet again.
I updated to KitKat yesterday - sideloaded. It was a huge success! My shiny new Nexus 7 has KitKat.
But today, when connected to my PC via USB, it no longer shows up.... It used to appear as an external drive that I could drag/drop files to. Now? Nothing. And Google support has no idea. They said "maybe it's a result of the OS upgrade."
I tried a factory reset - no dice.
I've tried multiple ports and different computers - no dice.
I tried USBDView and removing anything Nexus/Android related and trying again - nothing.
Anyone else having this issue? Any thoughts at all?
Any advice would be a big help. The PC sees it - but I cannot add files to it. Awful.
Install android-sync you will have to look on Google for it, it installs the drivers u need .. Worked for me when I lost connection. U can uninstall after

That didn't do anything for me - I tried it just now.
Did you lose connection after upgrading to KitKat?
Try enabling USB debugging

I had the same problem, but I noticed that I was able to transfer files if I change the usb to a usb 2.0 port. On 3.0 doesn't work.
For sideload kitkat you need to enable camera mode in storage USB settings. Try to re-enable the default settings. (settings... Storage... More... USB connection...)

My husband deleted all of the drivers on my PC and we started from scratch. Magic. I guess.
Thanks for all of the suggestions.
Where can i find an Android Settings.pak that will work with AFTV or does it have it built in?
Do I need root to sideload it?
Yes, you have to sideload. See attached apk.

Thank you for the file.
yes, I know it has to be sideloaded but does the AFTV need to be rooted to use it? Do i need any additonal module to use it?
Not that I am aware of needing any extra module to load the Settngs apk.
As far as root goes, I do not know. I would suppose that some featues of Settings will be disabled and not work if root is unavailable. I installed mine after root, so I have no first hand experience. Do know that even with root, some features will crash when you try to go into them and crash your app as well. But I have not see any harmful impact due to this.
What works and what does not work with the setting apk described here?
What features crash?
Bluetooth
I used the bluetooth to scan for devices and it picked up my Bose Soundock. Very simple. From what I read it won't work with devices which need a PIN
I cannot seem to install this. I have root using adbFire and granted SU, and have unknown sources enabled, but when I use adbFire to install it takes a really long time and never finish.
You can try to install using adb manually. I have installed this a few times and never had issues.
Are you connected to FTV correctly over the same subnet? Thats the first thing I would check. It is a small install and should not taken more than 5 to 10 seconds to install.

It must be the way you uploaded the file here or the way i downloaded it.
I searched and found another post with the file uploaded via a different service and downloaded it and it installed fine.
I found it here for reference:

Thanks for all of your help!
Is it possible to enable installation from unknown sources, so that you could install APKs from dropbox for example instead of sideloading them?

Trying to use Flashtool to downgrade to KK so I can root and flash LP, but Flashtool gets stuck as soon as I try to run it. It come up with errors about not finding a proxy for Firefox or IE or Java. I'm currently using Chrome, but I downloaded and installed Java and even opened up IE in a new window. I have installed drivers after disabling the signature check, but still have the same problem.
So what am I doing wrong?

The unofficial flashtool by Bin4ry, as I'm trying to avoid unlocking my bootloader. I have used it before on my old computer (Windows 7), but can't seem to get it to work on this one (Windows 8.1).

I'm on win 8.1 and I originally used Androxyde Flashtool from here which works fine with 8.1.... everything you need to downgrade and upgrade.... and even unlock B/L.... or not !!
http://www.flashtool.net/index.php
That's what I have. I put the firmware in the folder specified, but keep getting stopped right here.
The only way to get rid of it is to kill it with the task manager. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling it. I haven't had this computer very long, so Win 8.1 is still new to me.

Hmmm.... that's the very same Flashtool I have.... so we know it CAN work on 8.1.... time for the obvious first... uninstall completely and re-install paying careful attention to where you direct the installation to go and ensuring you get the 64 bit (assuming yr on 64 bit win 8.1) ... then once installed don't open until you re-boot and so you'll need to open from wherever you installed a shortcut.... internet connected to sync from github

No luck so far. Uninstalled, re-downloaded, reinstalled (even the drivers). I even found a detailed video:

As far as I can tell, I'm following everything to a "T". PC Companion works just fine. Probably just overlooking something very simple... Just have to keep digging, I guess. I'll post whatever solution I find, in case someone else is having this problem.
Thanks for your help!

I remember having similar issues . For me there was some junk in the firmware folders, try removing everything and just put what u need there. Dunno if it helps but worth a try. Good Luck
