Google now stops working - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys Ive noticed lately google now getting hung up more and more.
My cards stop working, the okay google locks up, and a few other bugs. I have to manually clear the cache and force stop the app to get it all working again.
1) I was wondering if anyone else has this issue and has figured another way to fix this?
2) is there maybe a script app I could use to auto clear my google cache and force stop the app every few hours? I know I had one app a LONG time ago that I used to make an auto reboot command during the night.
Thanks

[Q] G2 Apps Start Force Closing

On my G2, I've noticed that previously perfectly working apps will suddenly stop working, giving me a force close error whenever I try to launch them after being installed for a period of time. The only way I've been able to fix it is by uninstalling and then reinstalling the application.
Has this occurred to anyone else? And what should I do to fix this problem?
yes, i had this problem a few days ago...i did a factory reset and everything works fine as of now.
are there any solutions that don't require a wipe?
i had to wipe, and i lost all my mileage records i had entered into the mileage app, and my text messages before i backed them up...
its not too bad when its 2 weeks worth of information... but if this is going to occur often, its not going to be pretty
The two times that happened to me a simple power off/power on worked and they stopped Force Closing. I'm taking it that it didn't work in your situation and the uninstall/reinstall was the only fix?
yea i tried rebooting it several times, but after my latest wipe, nothing bad has happened...
still an issue that should be raised if its been replicated more than once
Ive had this problem with the stock browser and twitter, rebooting seemed to fix it.
Ah, one of those times where fix_permissions would be nice.
I've had to uninstall and re-install several of my apps because they've been force closing.

I've had this happen and it was acting really weird before it did it. It did like a vicious reboot and just about any app other than stock got a force close upon opening. It's gotta be software issues, god I hate stock roms. Damn TMobile and trying to restricting our joy of root.

This is starting to happen to me on my G2 as well now. I have uninstalled the Apps I could (except the preinstalled ones) and still they are force closing on me. I also have Factory Reset the phone several times and it still is happening. I have already exchanged my G2 once at Walmart for a flickering screen but im pretty sure the 14 days are up now with them. At this point I'm sure I have to call Tmobile.
Anyone have any ideas before I call T-Mobile?
I'm not rooted at all just plain stock.
Thanks

[Q] Youtube, Camera, Alarm, and Gallery Not Responding.

Sometime after upgrading to 4.1.1 my Galaxy Nexus began to have trouble viewing Youtube. At first I blamed the network, but trying to view a video in the gallery has begun to produce the same result, causing the app to hang and crash, as well as causing Face Unlock to stop working, requiring a restart. Clearing the app's Data and Cache have no effect. This was only a minor inconvenience until I installed 4.1.2; Since the update having a Youtube or Gallery video fail causes the Clock app to stop working when my alarm is supposed to be triggered in the morning. Google Play Music still works fine.
The problem occurs at totally random intervals after startup, usually after a full day of being turned on, and I'm not entirely sure if it was initially caused by the JB update. I have enabled "Show all ANRs" in the developers options to no avail. When upgrading to 4.1.2 the OTA failed, as did trying to install the OTA files through CWM. I was forced to re-flash the device without wiping. I have a GSM Nexus running Stock 4.1.2 takju JB, rooted and unlocked with Clockwork Mod Touch custom recovery. I've tried searching the internet for people in the same situation as me, and although I've found several similar, I haven't been able to find the same problem, or a way to fix it. I have already tried using Fix Permissions in CWM, closing and uninstalling other unrelated apps, and Clearing the Data and Cache for all the affected apps.
Any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

wipe data/factory reset
I realize that will almost definitely fix the problem, but I'm wondering if anyone has an idea of what could be done short of wiping or re-flashing the device. I'd like to keep a factory reset as a last resort, but thanks for the quick reply.

Not entirely sure if this is the same but my camera, gallery, music and a few others wouldn't work, giving a no storage error. I flashed a different kernel and now all is good, maybe worth a try before a full reset!

I've heard of a few problems like that, but my phone gives me no error dialogs at all, it just stops working. All the apps are fine until I try to view a video. Sometimes it works, other times it doesn't, but if the video does fail and I have to mash home to to get out of the app then anything media related stops working with the exception of Play Music. Sometimes I don't even get an ANR.
I might try to flash a new kernel. Could you tell me which on you used?

Have you tried reflashing the gapps?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
I haven't tried Reflashing Gapps yet. I've attached a logcat file from when Youtube, Gallery and Camera stopped working. Only Face Unlock displayed an ANR. I haven't been able to pinpoint exactly when the services stop working, but it doesn't seem to be when I do something specific to the phone.
Backing up, reflashing the phone and the restoring all my apps and data fixed the problem. Thank you all for the sugestions.

[Q] Youtube quality not sticking

Hey, when the Youtube app update that enabled 1440p quality playback came out i had the same problem, when you select a resolution it doesnt apply it, its like the app is always in auto quality mode. I read that you should uninstall updates and then install the newest version and that solved the issue for some time but now i have the same issue again. Does anyone know how to solve this?
Same issue here. I hate that I can't use 1440p. I've tried to uninstall updates but that didn't work. Anyone out there who knows how to fix this???

The app itself updated today but the issue is still there.
Hey guys, I found a solution for my tablet at least. The problem for me was Viper4android, I had changed the driver from power saving to high quality, reverting to the power saving driver seems to have solved the issue for me.
try to clear the apps data in setting application youtube and see if it stick.
Clearing those didnĀ“t help.
Last time's solution (Clear Data and cache, Uninstall Updates, turn off and then turn on and Install updates from Play Store) is not working this time, very frustrating.
My solution didn't seem to stick and now I have the same issue again.
Mine suddenly began working, at third attempt. I cleared cache and data, Uninstalled updates, force stop, then I went to the play store and download the new updates, when I tried the first video it didn't seem to have worked, but I exit YouTube and the next time I tried it worked.
Only thing I think I did different is that I didn't disable the app before download the updates.

I found that it didn't stick when I selected it but after a few seconds of the video playing it changed to the new setting.
Here's a quick fix: after you tap the 1440 display button drag the time bar back to the beginning of the video and it will begin playing in the higher resolution.

Sorry, best I could do.
I'm trying the newest YouTube version, 5.10.3.4 (not yet in the playstore) and the issue is still there.

Camera app suddenly constantly crashing

So last night I came home from work and was going to take a picture of my daughter but the app kept immediately crashing. I used it just fine earlier in the day.
The weird thing is that it also does this in safe mode. But Open Camera works just fine; but I need that burst functionality. I just want the app to work and I'm clueless what to do.
Are you running rooted or no rooted? Tried resetting the camera app through Application settings? Wipe all data etc
Not rooted. I uninstalled updates and still does it. I haven't find a factory reset yet as if I do that I'll just root.
I was hoping it was an easy fix.
..
I randomly get this when I open my camera app
Same here, does anyone have a way to fix it?

Z Play apps stop unless they are on screen

Bought this phone new from Best Buy. Ever since I've had it apps will randomly stop running unless I currently have them open on my screen. Messaging and maps mostly. I've tried different messaging apps and it's the same with all of them. I usually receive a bunch of messages whenever I open my app but I hardly receive them on time. If I'm using maps navigation and switch to another app on screen, the navigation will stop after 30 seconds or so. I've gone through every phone and app setting that I can think of. Also wiped cache (dalvik included) and I'm getting the same results. Any ideas?
