hello everyone, i am new to this community, sorry for my bad english, i would need some help. i have a htc one x for several weeks now, and i have a hudge problem with the battery life on this device, im a really hudge fan of htc, but im dissapointed, so for example, i have 9/10 lines of battery life in my settings menu, i plug it in , and start playing dead space, after 40 mins of playing the battery actually dropped by 2 lines , and i had left 7/10 lines of battery. how is that even possible??! all the phones i had, laptops, etc that require a battery worked in the folowing order: if you plug it in and took the battery out, it still worked, so if you had the battery in, it both keept alive the phone/laptop/every device on the world, while charging the battery, so if you use it, it wont loose power, but gained it. i wached a lot of videos and posts of people explaning hot to get more guice out of htx one x , and some wore like, well , dont use it too much, or do ont turn on your phone to see the clock cause it will save some battery..... ?!?! well i dodn't pay a ton of money to have a phone in my pocket and not be able to see what the time is, or play something/ lisen to music , without actually noticing that in 2-3 hours i wont be able to make a call, yes its a strong phone, and verry good one, by design, by hardware, and software, but the sad thing is the battery, does anyone have a mirracoulous tip for me? and perhaps others as well... (oh and i charged it as ppl from htc told me, first three times with the battery empty for 8 hrs..)
the battery will run out whilst charging, under heavy usage, because the phone is using more power than the charger can provide.
laptop chargers can handle this, simply because the charger provides more power to it. (and the fact laptop batteries tend to be several times the size of the hox)
you should only find that whilst using a battery/cpu intensive task such as navigation (it uses GPS, data sometimes, and the screen is on) that the charger won't be enough, but for most other things, like general web browsing etc, the charger will do it quickly enough
the screen is what takes basically all of the battery, so you can reduce that by making the screen brightness a bit less bright..
the battery life when the screen is off is incredible. WAY better than any other phone i've had. when the screen is off, the phone uses about 1% battery every 2 hours or so. and that was with wifi etc connected and autosync still switched on.
whether the phone will last you all day or not, depends on your usage. if it doesn't, then either make the brightness even lower, or you can purchase a portable charger. or a battery case.
there's no point saying well other phones have better battery life like an iphone. lets be realistic, the iphone DOES NOT have better battery life. it may have had decent standby battery life, but so does tegra 3, probably better than iphone now. when you actually use an iphone, or any other smartphone for that fact, the battery disappears just as quickly as this one does.
Tegra 3 standby is awesome. Just tried an experiment. Please note that this is with 3g or WiFi on all this time and with auto sync.
Again this is just to demonstrate standby time.
For the op, are you sure you don't have a rogue app? Also are you using an HTC charger?

i know stand by is awseome, and i am using the original out of the box charger and cable, but i might go ahead since i know a thing or two about electronics and modify the charger at 2 amps vs 1 amp currently.. this will give me faster charging, but im still researching, cuz i have second toughts
p.s. do you have a costum rom? it doesent look like a prtscreen from htc one x

Unlikely. Unless the phone knows it can draw 2 amps, it has to assume a 1A capable charger (designated by connecting the data pins together).

I used it all 11 hours. Mostly reading second book of Game of Thrones in Kindle app. Checked some net sites, xda forum app, some blogs. Few calls and texts. All the time on wifi. Was sick in bed. Auto brightness, but as my eyes didn't liked strong sun is can say that it was quite dim inside.
But it probably depends on usage. Yesterday I was reading on the beach and I had 4 hours screen on time. Probably brightness all the way up as it was quite hot sunny day.
On normal day I get 4-5 hours screen on time.
Full stock One X.

batteries nowadays can resist pretty much, and unlike a laptop battery that has a chip in it and it records every charge, and then after x charges it suddeny stops working correctely this is cuz of the company chip they insertet to make is useless after x charges, a phone battery is just a normal one, this is tested, i opened a laptop battery and took the chip out, and via com port on pc, i was able to retrive the data storred by the company that produced it, but was not able to reset it, (comsporacy) lol . so i will buy a htc battery, not necesarry one x's and i will test it my charging it a couple o times bowth with the amp maxed, from 1 to 2 (1,1..1,2 etc) and voltage from 5 to 10 V, maby ill get a result, that is a little better than the technique i saw a couple pages away about charging your phone, then powerring it off, charging it again, then pwr on charging it again etc, forgot the method name, but in my opinion bubjecting a rechargable battery to so manny fluctuations of current in so little time does not sound good, my idea of amping the charger or the voltage by just a little sounds a little better in my opinion

you have a lot to learn then.. Batteries can explode, and they do: here's a video of some guys iphone setting on fire in his back pocket, turned out to be the battery that caused it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AIRXDeEzlcw&feature=youtube_gdata_player
That isn't my pure reasoning behind my thoughts anyways, whatever experiments you do with higher amp chargers won't do anything, because the phone won't accept more charge than the circuitry allows. Which happens to be a safe amount for the battery. This is so the battery doesn't get damaged, and in some circumstances, set on fire or explode.
If you take the battery out and start prodding things at it and take it over its limits, be prepared for fire or explosion. Like Ben said, put yourself and only yourself at risk if you choose to do it.. And be wise and have a fire extinguisher ready.

I've been having the same issue as well. The stock ROM on HTC one X drains the battery rapidly. For me, In normal day which includes listening to music, playing games, browsing and making calls, my battery would last maximum up to 20 hours; meaning that every night when I go to bed I had to charge it for the next day.
This problem was battling me a lot. I learned that the stock ROM is taking advantage of all (4) CPU's and memory even while in idle. The whole battery consumption relies on the CPU usage and Memory management.
I moved to a custom ROM called ViperX 2.6.0. I'm very satisfied with the result. It seams that they've managed the CPU and memory in a very good and neat way. The ROM has a lot of tweaks.By default, when installing the fresh ROM and wiping the battery stat, the battery would last one and half a day. By doing a number of simple tweaks such as disabling the animations on transitions, disable fast dormancy and disable smart sync you can have the battery up to two days.
Check the attachment, it's a screen shot of my battery usage.
Hope this helps.

How the hell are you getting this much screen time ?!
I dim the screen to the lowest brightness and disable
sync and sometimes in flight mode, and I can hardly get
3h of screen time! I mostly read on it, so it shouldn't
be battery intensive.
oh, and If I use it outside it lasts even less 2-2.5h.
What's your secret?
Oh and I use the latest CM10, and downclock my
cpu to 800-1000mhz

Then your phone is knackered.
I can get 4+hrs screen on time with auto brightness, auto sync, stock cpu levels with wifi on.
That's no secret, that's just what it does.
As for 'just reading' - you can easily get over 13hrs screen on time with lowest brightness & flight mode - I've tested it myself on the Kindle app.

AOSP roms get much less battery life than Sense roms, 3hrs screen on time is about average.
I'm currently running CM10 with Neo kernel 7.2 @ 1.3GHz and getting almost 4hrs screen on time. With Faux kernel it was usually around 3hrs.
Chrisjcks, what do u mean by "your phone is knackered"?!
Its a new phone! I just got it 2 weeks ago.
Michealtbh, it may be somthing with the APOP rom, but I really
hate using sense ... I want to try this Neo Karnel first,
Can I just flash it on my cm10? (without wipe)
Where can I get it?
How do I know which kernel is im my current rom?

Your phone is fine.
You can find it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1873615
You have to flash the boot.img through fastboot then the modules in recovery. You're probably using CM10 kernel atm

Ok, but don't moan of battery if you are running a beta (alpha) custom rom.
The HTC ONE X battery is fine, especially after the sense 4.1/4.0.4 upgrade from 2.17
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
Michealtbh, Thanks!
I'll try that soon. (it's stable, right?)
I'm now testing the new Nightly.. it's real good and battery life,
seems promising, looks like I'll get 3.5-4h of screen time there
(No sync with low brightness though)
chrisjcks, I'm not using alpha roms, just the stable ones.
and this DOES feel very bad battery life to me, I come to the hox
from Motorola milestone, and there I could easily get 7-8 hours
of screen time with wifi. (and it has smaller battery and 40% overclocked!!)
How much do you get on the new stock?
When I was on stock i remember it ran out after half a day,
only using it for music and taking some videos.
Battery life varies a lot. On stock in London I get a full day screen time of around 2-3 hours with 3G on all the time. Which for me is fine.
Last weekend I was in Portsmouth and the signal was very patchy and my phone died within 10 hours. Hardly any screen on time.
So it does really depend and will vary for user to user depending on your signal and how the phone is set up.
Mine is usually on auto brightness, and auto syncing on.
Today I've been at home as I've got a damn cold but my screen on time is over 4 hours in good signal and wifi. Same setup. So you can gather from this that signal, data used, etc can affect battery life in many ways.
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
So, no matter what I do my battery life stays the same regardless of what rom or kernel I'm running. So now I'm wondering if it's my battery, but I'm thinking even if my battery was bad the rom or kernel should have some sort of effect on battery life. Does anyone know if this may be the cause of a bad battery or what else could be the issue, I know for sure it's not the rom or kernel so it has to either be a problem with my phone or battery but I'm not sure which one it is.
Try running a looped video run down test. And report what you get for screen on time.

Yeah, that seems very low, I guess you may have a bad battery, by the way what ROM were you running when you did that test and you did test it from a full charge right?
Yeah I tested from 100%, I'm running Frosty JB v3.0, It's insanely smooth but like the other roms it wasn't able to increase my battery life. So far the only thing that will increase battery life is if I underclock the cpu. Other than that nothing else I've tried works.

Yeah, sorry I couldn't be of more help. I know for a fact that you should have better battery life though. I'm at 20 percent left with over 4.5 hours of screen time and been off of charge for 15 hours.
It's cool, I appreciate the responses, I'm going to buy a new battery from amazon (possibly an extended one if it doesn't add too much bulk) and hopefully the issue is the battery and not my phone.

I honestly don't think your battery life is that terrible. Streaming Netflix destroys your battery regardless of wifi or mobile data, and so does playing a game. Three hours of screen on time isn't that bad, especially considering you watched netflix for two hours and in your screenshot you have no bars of signal, which will also destroy your battery in a hurry.

There are no bars because I turned off data and was using wifi, I agree that netflix drains more than an average video played off the phone but I still think this is horrible. I mean 5 hours total is not something to brag about when your screen on time was only 3 hours, not to mention I underclocked to 1.2ghz to save power and was on the lowest brightness setting.

Hey guys, I really do want this phone, but before I buy it I want to know how things are for the phone
Is the battery life good? I hear that it comes with a 2000mah battery but offers up to 30% extra due to the power saving options, do you get more then 3hours screen on time? my Galaxy S3 and nexus 4 get around 2.5/3 hours max which just isnt good enough
Does it get dangerously hot? I want this phone not because of the camera, processor or anything like that, I want it for its build quality, saying that its made of metal and obviously metal absorbs heat, does it get really hot? also the hotter the battery the worse battery life you get if im not mistaken?
Is the performance any good? some people say it sluggish, some people say its good, Ive seen a few videos and the UI seems smooth and elegant but it would be nice to read it from people who have had the device for more then a day. Also, its a quad core A9 at 1.5ghz why does it run so badly on Antutu? i saw a 130000 score before, roughly the same as a tegra 3 if im not mistaken. I know benchmarks dont mean anything, but im a benchmark junkie
Hows connectivity? In my area its normally pretty good, although ive read it drops out sometimes
thanks for reading and I hope you reply with some good comments
Jack
the battery works for about one day ... think it could be better ...
the perfomance is pretty good, maybe the people telling, that it is poor, have an old firmware e.g. B104 in germany ...
when playing a long time or watching video, it could get warmer, but for me, it is not hot ...
alltogether :good:
I can normally get two days of light use from the 'phone (well from 6am day one to 6pm on day two). However, something has a tendency to hog the processor if I leave it switched on overnight. If I switch the 'phone off (power down) over night (from 11pm to 6am) I can easily get three or four days use. I use the 'phone mostly for sending a few texts, half an of web browsing in the evening on the bus (which warms the 'phone up) and an hour of BlueTooth music on the bus morning and evening. This uses around 20% battery per day.
I find that in everyday use the 'phone has plenty of processing power. Scrolling through the BBC News app is smoother than my old Xperia Z.
Connectivity seems fine and compared to my old Xperia Z and the iPhone 5 certainly no worse, although with the current official firmware, the signal gauge seems to constantly go from 2 bars to no signal and back again. Both my workplace and my home are in relatively low signal areas anyway and often don't get much above one bar unless stood in the right corners of the house or workshop so I struggle for signal due to my location. Having said that, despite the gauge showing little or no signal, I don't suffer from having no connection (at least no more than with the other two 'phones) and sending messages or reading websites on the bus across the transmitter blackspots of The Lincolnshire Wolds is no less reliable than any other 'phone I've used in these locations.
I think this is the best 'phone I've owned for a long time. I've not liked a 'phone as much since my HTC HD Mini, including the iPhone 5 and Xperia Z already mentioned.

Thanks for the reply, it seems that with newer firmware the phone has gotten better? Im thinking if i were to root the device and underclock it too 1.0ghz the heat would go down and also save a bit of battery life, I use this method on my Galaxy S3 and get around an hours worth of screen on time

Battery life is not best for me... I've "Cell Standby" which drains battery, but it will be fixed in next updates i think. Phone gets warm when using, but not too much.
Perfomance is good enough for me, and maybe it will be better on next firmwares. I suggest you to flash B111 rom, you can find it from Development forum. I got 13 200 score from Antutu benchmark with B107 firmware, and 14 400 with B111.
In overall .. you have to buy this phone ! Its amazing

14 400 isnt that great considering the Xperia Z ( 1.5ghz quad SD S4 pro ) scores 21 000 But its smooth, and thats all i care about
Huawei P6 Getting to hot while web browsing
Hi guys,
Have you experience cell phone over heating just doing web browsing? And consequently having fast battery drain?
Regards!
On B106, Usually I have to charge my phone twice in a day. Due to heavy Wi-Fi usage and games, now upgraded to B107 lets hope the situation gets better.
normally its worth your money

Jack

For battery, within standby, it only uses 2~3% while the whole night (from 11.pm to 7.am). So, normally, u can use more than 36h, if u dont paly many many games.
For the temperature, its warm not hot, but i found some apps are hot, and the same others are only a little warm, i think the CPU and system optimize is not good enough for normally use. So the performance, i think it has the same problem.
Err, forgive my poor english......

My wifi is always disconnected while game or online video, and the wifi router is just by my side.
Do u have the same problem?

I think his answer was perfect. There's good battery and bad battery, it's as simple as that. X hours of playing/watching X by somebody tells me nothing about a gazillion other factors playing a role (or not). This tab has a not so good battery but it isn't terrible either.

I think your right i was going for longer battery life in the end. the yoga suppose to get 10 hr of video time or more bet gamming probally be 6-8 hour range of midlle of the road games.
I use it for reading, web browsing, email and such. The occasional puzzle game or chess. I'm getting about 3 days out of it. So it's not great but as I use it at home and the charger is always close by, screen resolution was the more important point for me. Before I had the yoga for about 2 weeks before exchanging it for the g pad. The yogas battery life was just amazing compared to the g pad, but the screen has 100 ppi less, which made reading really straining to the eyes in my case. Just to give one of hopefully many examples that can help you decide based on your own usage patterns.

I've rooted and stuck Madhi rom (4.4.2) on mine. Using it for nearly a week now, but the battery isn't brilliant. Had a China 8" tab before which also wasn't good with battery (and an awful ppi for that matter).
Roughly my usage is similar, or just a bit better than erwaso's. I get a bit more on certain things like video playback as I've optimised the Build.prop to save on battery. Also I've used an app to stop all major wakelocks and throttled the cpus to run slightly lower clock speed and on demand.
Personally I don't like any Apple products, but you can't beat there tablets for battery life; Android is too power hungry!

Yea, i don't read i never learned lol no i don't read anything other than an article on the web. I wanted it for movies and light gaming via fpse and other emulator's so the yoga's long battery life was what i was going for. The toshiba has slightly better cpu and screen but the battery life reports on review varies alot 200 250 was my price range also considering the nook hd plus get decent battery life on the reviews and has full hd screen. I
'm leaning towards that 180 i can pick it up tomorrow. The other's i have to order online. Ty for your feedback.
I also saw microsoft store has dell venue 8 pro on sale for 230 it can play older pc games like cod modern warfare and such it get 8hr battery life. Its the last tablet for me for awhile my wifes cutting me off bounced around tablet to tablet and phone to phone. lol so i'm sure as soon i buy 1 I'm going to wish i would bought a different 1 lol
Hi, so basically I wanted to know how fact peoples' battery drains depending on the app. My brightness is on 50% with adjustment off. When I am using twitter it goes down by 1% in about 10-12minutes. But when I use Facebook or LectureNotes (main worry) its about 4 or 5 % per minute. Could someone do a test using these app and compare? All the things like GPS, blutetooth are off, wifi always on.
@kamilsss: You can see battery usage in the `battery´ section of your device's system settings.
I know you can, my concern is that my battery seems to be draining a little bit quicker than it should be when I compare it to others' notes

Clash of Clans is a battery destroyer, no matter what device.
I bought my tablet 1 month after release. It's now 1.5 years old. I wonder if we are starting to near that magical point where Li-ion batteries start to lose capacity due to age?

I got mine about then also and just replaced the battery, it lasts alot longer now. I charged mine over 900 times. The only reason I know cause of a app that keeps count of how many times the battery is charged, the spen is taken out and headphones plugged in plus some other things. I went for a little bit expensive battery but totally worth it. I don't even have to charge the battery everyday like I had to before replacing it.

it was pretty easy. I did have to open it 2 more times to get it right but it was my fault. The first time a cable was loose and second time I didn't pop the power button in right so I couldn't turn off. Its all good now and definitely worth buying. It was a bit expensive but I didn't want a chance of getting a bootleg cheap one. I got it from new power 99. It came with all the tools and instructions on a DVD but I used you tube.
How much was it? I am thinking about changing my battery as well

Around 65 dollars. I got from new power 99 and they have a guarantee for 1 year. I saw other samsung ones for alot cheaper but they come from china and I didn't want to get a bootleg one. I went with one a little more money and it was worth it.
