I think his answer was perfect. There's good battery and bad battery, it's as simple as that. X hours of playing/watching X by somebody tells me nothing about a gazillion other factors playing a role (or not). This tab has a not so good battery but it isn't terrible either.

I think your right i was going for longer battery life in the end. the yoga suppose to get 10 hr of video time or more bet gamming probally be 6-8 hour range of midlle of the road games.
I use it for reading, web browsing, email and such. The occasional puzzle game or chess. I'm getting about 3 days out of it. So it's not great but as I use it at home and the charger is always close by, screen resolution was the more important point for me. Before I had the yoga for about 2 weeks before exchanging it for the g pad. The yogas battery life was just amazing compared to the g pad, but the screen has 100 ppi less, which made reading really straining to the eyes in my case. Just to give one of hopefully many examples that can help you decide based on your own usage patterns.

I've rooted and stuck Madhi rom (4.4.2) on mine. Using it for nearly a week now, but the battery isn't brilliant. Had a China 8" tab before which also wasn't good with battery (and an awful ppi for that matter).
Roughly my usage is similar, or just a bit better than erwaso's. I get a bit more on certain things like video playback as I've optimised the Build.prop to save on battery. Also I've used an app to stop all major wakelocks and throttled the cpus to run slightly lower clock speed and on demand.
Personally I don't like any Apple products, but you can't beat there tablets for battery life; Android is too power hungry!

Yea, i don't read i never learned lol no i don't read anything other than an article on the web. I wanted it for movies and light gaming via fpse and other emulator's so the yoga's long battery life was what i was going for. The toshiba has slightly better cpu and screen but the battery life reports on review varies alot 200 250 was my price range also considering the nook hd plus get decent battery life on the reviews and has full hd screen. I
'm leaning towards that 180 i can pick it up tomorrow. The other's i have to order online. Ty for your feedback.
I also saw microsoft store has dell venue 8 pro on sale for 230 it can play older pc games like cod modern warfare and such it get 8hr battery life. Its the last tablet for me for awhile my wifes cutting me off bounced around tablet to tablet and phone to phone. lol so i'm sure as soon i buy 1 I'm going to wish i would bought a different 1 lol

Hey do we have a section or is the acer a500 and 100 compatible as far as roms and such?

It's probably not compatible because it's quite a different device in terms of specs. At least the ones I've seen.
It's a fairly new device so you'll have to wait a little for your own section. Write to a mod and see if he can talk to someone that can make you one.
I saw an advertisement this weekend (think it was in the walmart flyer in the Dallas Monrning News) for the Acer A100 7" tablet with Honeycomb 3.2. 1ghz processor with screen res of 1024 x 600 (if i remember correctly).
Yea I bought mine at Walmart, it's the 8gb model.

In real life usage what is the battery life? I like the size (similar to my Nook) but the seemingly limited battery is a major concern. Any initial reviews would be welcome.

From what I have seen specs wise, a100 battery should be 1/2 of the a500.
A500 battery - Standard battery, Li-Po 3260 mAh
A100 battery - Standard battery, Li-Po 1530 mAh
At least I assume so - I don't even want to pretend to know for sure, as I have not had a chance to get my hands on one and see it in action yet.
Also, as for display resolution:
A100: Type LCD capacitive touchscreen, Size 600 x 1024 pixels, 7.0 inches
A500: Type LCD capacitive touch screen, 800 x 1280 pixels, 10.1 inches
Most reviews of the a100 agree on one thing: battery life is a bit on the short side. PcMag has write up on the a100 and list battery life as 3hrs53mins - http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2390912,00.asp

the battery is working great for me I have had this on and using for nearly 5 hours of web browsing and maybe 30 minutes of angry birds Rio. I'm now at 24% remaining so I think the reviews aren't completely accurate. I have been good about fully draining and fully recharging my battery though. I have been on the same wifi network and my screen is set to auto brightness and I have disabled the media server to help conserve and its working fabulous for me. Early today I left it on and idle for about an hour and the screen was set to 1 minute sleep and it lost 1% only in that hour. I love this tab and recommend it to anyone looking for a halfway point between the phone and the 10" tabs.

Agreed - my a500 gets quite heavy use on a daily basis - and I find that controlling what apps are running, enabling airplane mode when away from a network signal keep my battery going all day long - unless I am streaming Netflix @ Max brightness

Hey, specs of the a100 say you should only get a little under four hours - you are lucky lol
With mine I noticed with wifi on I drop about 4% per hour on battery life with the screen off, so Airplane mode does has a noticible affect. Otherwise this tablet is the perfect balance of size and power, have a few complaints but overall a wonderful tablet.
A500 actually has two 3260 mAh cells, i was suprised to find that out and quite happy afterwards knowing my battery wasnt as small as I thought

Add another one to the list. I would also like to see the A`100 have it's own forum
I am new to the world of Tablets, I currently have the use of an A500 16Gb machine. Being someone who likes "playing" with toys I see that both the A100 and A500 have potential. I find the A500 a little large and a little heavy, the next step is to play with an A100 to see if the screen will be large enough for my use and ageing eyes!
My concern with the A100 is that of RAM and also internal storage. The internal storage can always be supplemented by an SD card I believe, but will 512Mb of RAM vs 1Gb RAM cause problems??

All depends on how much stuff you have running.
I've become obsessed with the poor battery life on my new Galaxy Nexus and I've been pouring over forums, videos and blogs to find out why it's so bad.
I keep hearing about people getting 8 hours, 11 hours, 14 hours before their phone dies, but this is not actual use time, it's idle time (I.e "I left the phone off the charger overnight and..."). WHY does the manufacturer rate this phone as having a 15 day standby life... FIFTEEN DAYS!!!!
Something is terribly wrong here. If I can't use the browser for more than an hour without the battery getting critical, then what's the point of a "super phone "? It seems useless. I don't even want to install games on this device, because I know I'll get frustrated by it chewing through the battery as I play.
I purchased this phone with a high priority on the HD video recording capabilities, but will I actually be able to film stuff while out and have enough juice in case I need to make a call? Something tells me I won't.
Maybe I'm just expecting too much or maybe manufacturers should stop making these phones so "super" and focus on the fact that these are portable devices which need to last at least the day. God forbid you went for a hike and had an emergency, only to find your phone dead after eight hours!
Rant over
My battery is currently at 60% after 13 hours and and 1:35 screen time.
I have absolutely no complaints about the battery. In fact I would say its the best out of any phone I've owned.

That's because when you pull your phone off the charger and it says it's @100%, it's lying. It's somewhere in between 95-99%. The first 10% is spent figuring out where you're really at.
I think op said it best himself. Maybe you're just expecting too much. Battery life is freaking awesome for a phone with a 4.65 inch oled screen. Reminds me of my trusty nokia e71 back in the day.

You can kindly replace "hike" with "family outing", "work", "movies", night club", "sporting event", "errands", etc... having a spare battery or charger (or a second communication device!) on you all the time should NOT be the solution to poor design (either hardware or software or both).

Lot's of misinformation in this thread.
A new Lithium-Ion battery (LiCoO2) is always 100% fully charged at 4.20 V (+- 0.05 V). This maximum voltage lowers with age and use of the cell. Both voltage and battery age can be precisely measured by your phone and translated into the battery % display. It's not a linear graph but it's not really rocket science either.
There is no calibration of LiIon cells, it's neither necessary nor possible, they work at 100% efficiency right from the start.

i'm at 24% after 12.5h, 1:45h screen time (inverted theme browser and some brief facebook/twitter time...). This, to me is not acceptable. If I was using google maps + gps, how long until the battery died? 30 minutes? Less?? I'm not watching video, making calls, downloading torrents, using the camera or anything else that would cause this kind of drain, but it seems to be "normal" for a lot of users on this and other forums.

Have to agree with most and say battery life is by far the best compared to all other Android phones I've owned. As for standby time, this is tested without a sim card, apps, etc. So 15 days sounds reasonable without touching it and without the phone doing anything in the background.
I disagree.
The battery life of this phone is fantastic, more than what I expected. It is better than the Nexus S that I have.
I am using extended battery 2000mAh for GSM version.
Battery drain during night is about 1%-2% for about 8 hours. No kidding, I was surprised with that this morning. Probably because the new 4.0.2. Before, it was half percent an hour.
My current record for battery life was 61 hours with 4 hours screen on time. See the attached screenshot.
Again, this is based on my usage pattern.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Battery life is amazing to me too, My average usage a day at work is 8-9 hours music, 45-60mins 3g web browsing, ~1h 40 mins screen on time.
On my Desire HD (Yea I know, hopeless battery life) the battery would die around 7-8 hours in with that usage. On my Galaxy Nexus I get home with 50% left.
One thing I found that helped battery life out a TON, is swiping facebook off the recent apps menu when you're done with it. Also have a similar high drain problem with joystiq/engadget apps.
Running AKOP17 with francokernel12 for anyone wondering.
I think you need to specify CDMA or GSM. It seems pretty common for GSM to get around 4 hours screen time before the battery goes. CDMA: 2.5 hours or so with moderate-heavy use.
I really hope someone on Verizon will post that they get 4 hours screen on time (no wifi) and what they did to get it.
Battery is good here too. Android OS is the eater. 4.0.3 and a good kernel fixes that.
The phone is capable of good battery but the new OS is still buggy.
LTE EX Galaxy Nexus - AOSP KANG
Asus Transformer - 3.2.1 OC/UV
Franco Kernel with a core powered down on screen offm 325 / 1200 clock.
Exiting / logging off google talk
Entering camera and force closing it one time after each reboot
LTE off
Nets me 1% drain per hour on 3g with nothing going on. That is excellent battery life. Loging out of Gtalk netted me approximately 2% an hour and the camera close trick netted me a crap ton. Prior to that I was getting almost 8% per hour loss doing nothing.
Hi, so basically I wanted to know how fact peoples' battery drains depending on the app. My brightness is on 50% with adjustment off. When I am using twitter it goes down by 1% in about 10-12minutes. But when I use Facebook or LectureNotes (main worry) its about 4 or 5 % per minute. Could someone do a test using these app and compare? All the things like GPS, blutetooth are off, wifi always on.
@kamilsss: You can see battery usage in the `battery´ section of your device's system settings.
I know you can, my concern is that my battery seems to be draining a little bit quicker than it should be when I compare it to others' notes

I went for a little bit expensive battery but totally worth it. I don't even have to charge the battery everyday like I had to before replacing it.

I would guess that if you're outside using GPS, the GPU for games, and have brightness around 50% or more in the sun, you'll be very lucky to get 2.5 hours screen on time. If you have a battery pack, then that'll help and you'll probably be good to go, but you'll need to keep in mind you also need a USB A to USB C cable. All that said, I'm not a cell phone gamer, per se. But I can tell you I've not been impressed with the battery life on this phone even though I like the handset. I use it to track my jogging routes and listen to music and navigate and I can tell you the battery life on this phone is average at best. I would think the GPU and CPU shouldn't have any problem playing Pokemon Go.
