I have the FireTV 2 and the only two apps that switch the screen to 4K are Netflix and Amazon. The Youtube app plays everthing in 1080p even if its a 4K video. This means that the Netflix and Amazon apps are sending some command to the Fire TV OS to switch from 1080p to 2160p.
Can someone explain that - also are there any side loaded apps that will display 4K videos or 4K photos in 4K ?
I'm considering getting the AFTV2 for 4k. I have a 4k TV and was wondering if the 4k content will play with 4k resolution or should I stick with the AFTV1?
I'm not sure there is any 4K content on Kodi ?

You can google bigbuckbunny 4k. there are two things to test.
if kodi can play 4k and then second does it output native 4k resolution.
Can someone help who already know. I'm contemplating getting the nvidia shield.

I'm not sure I understand what you are asking here, the 4K content you have directed me to is just on Youtube which your Sony tv should be able to play in 4K from the Youtube app on the tv, you were asking if Kodi can output 4K on the Fire tv. If you point me in the direction of any 4K content on Kodi I will try it for you.

Gauduchon. Any 4k Content available on the web can be a test factor. I don't think we are allowed to post live links for media. Question is.
1. While using Kodi, does the aftv2 output 4k
2. While using kodi, if we play a 4k file can kodi handle it with the new kodi as when I tried a sample file it stuttered. but then that was one of the only file i had.
It doesn't appear that any old app can output 4K. http://www.aftvnews.com/4k-video-output-not-available-to-fire-tv-app-developers/
Aftvnews this is precisely the answer I was looking for. I've gotten the nvidia shield. Do you know if that will work ?
Some of my videos are recorded with my Hauppauge HD PVR and/or my Sony HDR-SR11 camcorder, both of which give me 1080i video files. Playback with my first gen Fire TV and Fire TV Sticks via Kodi and Plex have been fine.
I had added a 2nd gen Fire TV recently, and last night tried to watch a recording (1080i) and the video was all garbled (see if THIS LINK works). It didn't matter if I used Kodi or Plex, it looked the same. I tried tweaking some settings in Kodi around deinterlacing which had no effect. Using VideoRedo to "edit" the video and save, forcing it to re-encode and de-interlace, the output video which is progressive, while 90% of the original size, plays fine on the 2nd Gen Fire TV.
So, is there anyway to overcome this issue on the 2nd gen Fire TV? or am I forced to re-encode all my interlaced video files?
I have a seiki SE39UA01UK it says it supports 4k at 30hz
Does the new Ftv2 4k work with this TV thanks.
And is there a way to make the Ftv gen 1 to output 4k?
Or have any suggestions for a raspberry pi that would work with my TV
Thanks

-No, our tvs do not support HDCP 2.2. Amazon Video or Netflix won't stream in 4k.
-No.
-I'm not familiar with PI set ups so I can't answer that question.

And thanks 4 reply mate
Hi there!
I have a Fire TV Stick 4K with an debloated ROM running and hooked up to my older 4K TV.
It's a Sony 55XD85 with HDR10 signal support but I don't like how Netflix HDR looks on this TV.
Fire TV options do not work to get rid of HDR output and TV settings same (it's an ATV Generation 1 TV but global disable possibility is only available in ATV 2).
So do you know if it's possible to forbid (Netflix) HDR output Android-sided or is this not possible because of HDCP or similar?
I had a look in "/sys/class/graphics/fd0" but didn't see anything HDR related.
Thanks,
Nico
