Hey guys,
I'm about to buy a one plus 3 from a guy which is selling it extremely cheap and I would like to ask you guys, in what ways I could check if the device is real and not just a replica and also if It's not stolen. I will meet with the guy today so I would appreciate everything you tell me test on the device before making the purchase. I already asked him for the picture of the invoice.. now I'm waiting for his reply.
BTW this is the picture he sent me of the device:

when you meet, ask to plug it in to a outlet, if it dashcharges, its real.
or
open bootloader by turning off phone and press volume up+power, it should be named someting ms8996 or something like that.

I saw you comment and first off I'd like to say its already a chinese branded phone and very modest company, not your usual suspects for making "Phoney." (pun intended) Also I do not own the phone yet, but since you're cautious I'll still help you out.
When I buy phones from untrusted/unknown parties I always meet them in very open public places and look them in the eye when they're talking, looking for signs of anxiety or hesitation.
Now onto the phone itself:
pop the sim tray out make sure there are 2 slots (real oneplus 3 has 2 slots). okay
Go to settings> about phone check the imei with this: https://swappa.com/esn (its free and trusted site)
pop one of my sim cards in and make a phone call. go back to settings> about phone and check the baseband, model number, build number etc. and make sure they are correct/up to date.
go to the camera (usually the stock app) and I test photos and videos.
turn on bluetooth and make sure it searches for my headset which i have on at the time.
Open a web browser and see how fast the app opens and open multiple tabs and different websites in each.
For a phone like this I would feel the quality of the build because most knock-offs just don't feel like "real"
and LAST but not LEAST go to settings> security and check the fingerprint sensor, (how fast it esponds, if it responds at all, nothing is for sure but chances are very slim that a knock-off company is putting a high quality fingerprint system in a knock-off phone. I do all of this while talking to him/her about how the yankees are really sucking this year, and telling them my fantasy football team is better than theirs by a long shot.
I sure hope this helps :fingers-crossed:
Check the Android version. If it says Nougat, then it is obviously a fake one.
Thank you! Isn't there an app that can check if the phone is real? Like all the internals and camera module? I heard there's one with the name similar to AIDA..
Also, could anyone post the latest settings page where I can see the latest build/baseband and so on, please?
Thank you all

What if I do every test mentioned above? As a sound test?
If everything works well, it shouldn't be a problem.. it's even seen the original screen protector..

You could easily get 300 euro for OP3 so for me the real question is (and it should be your question as well) Why would the seller throw away 150 euro? Why would anybody do that? Nobody would unless something is wrong.

Looks real. Exactly like mine did whwn I got it. But what's to say that's what you will receive. Especially at half price.
Buy using a reputed site and pay using a known payment method.
That way if you do get cheated will have some way to get your money back.
Isnt that fingerprint Sensor/ home button too thick and too small from left to right?

Yeah it actually does look a little weird. Not the same compared to mine. Mines shorter from top to bottom and longer left to right.

If you can get internet... Download the Geekbench 3 from playstore and run a test and you should get around 2250+ singlecore score and 5400+ multicore score (If you can only download geekbench 4 then score is around 1700 for single and 4000 multicore)

I just made my first $2 USB Jig and I am so stoked that it actually works! Resets your ODIN counter and gets rid of i9100 boot splash!
I took video while I made it, sorta ugly but works. For those of you who need to return your phone(perhaps your Sprint rep checks for ODIN counts), you might want to make a USB Jig yourself and save $8.
*Note - This also can save you from hard brick, so you can boot into download mode.

Haha nice. If I ever do this, I will likely just buy one, but I have a question. Could someone briefly explain how simply putting a resistor on a couple pins on a micro usb connector resets the Odin counter and removes the triangle? I always assumed these jigs had some kind of code script loaded onto them somehow.
Is it as simple as a design thing that Samsung includes on their phones so that technicians can reset these counters?

The 300K ohm resistor between pin 4 and pin 5 sends (V/R=I) 5V/300,000=.000016A to pin 4 of Epic 4G, which signals bootloader/reset mode. Something like that but USB Jig doesn't actually have anything, it's just a resistor between pin 4 and 5. I can't believe guys are charging $10 on amazon for this.
Ahh thanks. I guess it just blows my mind how something so simple does this. As far as $2 vs. $10, well for me, $8 is worth not having to pull out my soldering iron. But I'm a lazy sort of old man these days where I tend to pay for convenience.
Still, there's nothing like doing something yourself and gaining the satisfaction from watching it actually work (rather than engulf your phone in a firey inferno).
Very cool Zedo.
I'd pay 10 bucks for one. Why? Because it looks nice and travels easier. The one I made is from a cable I cut up and resistors I had laying around. So I've got 5 resistors twisted together connected to a chewed up cable end.....yea $10 is worth it for a small deal that fits in my pocket and looks professional.

Flea bay was cheaper. The only local shop with resistors only had a pack for $3. I wasn't in a hurry, it took a week from China, is more durable and looks better then what I would have done. If I had return my phone to sprint for warranty work I would have made a jig.

The difference between this and software is that this will put your phone into odin mode when you're just about bricked. They say with a jig you can't brick the phone.

That's really good information to know. Now I definitely feel better knowing I have a Plan C (have plan A and B already). Thanks for the info, I appreciate it.
I'm going to hit Radio Shack tomorrow to get some of the parts, hopefully they'll have everything I'll need. Plus my friend is the manager there so I'll get him to put a mad discount on it or let me use his employee discount.

If I remember correctly (coming from a captivate here) the only thing that the usb jig cant help you with is a bad bootloader flash. If theres no complete bootloader, then theres nothing to interact with the jig.
PS: I made a post a loooong time ago in the captivate forums showing off my homemade jig. check it out if you're bored. The Links in my sig still.
Wow 10 Bucks i got one off ebay for 2 bucks amazon is ripping them off smh!!!!
Hey thanks for the info zedo, really helpful. Yeah, too late I bought mine already a few weeks ago, but if I'd known about this I would have definitely made myself.
People, we are ALL aware that it can be purchased online from $3.00 to $10.00, thanks for stating the obvious once again, this is not about that, it's for people that want to make one themselves.
$1.50 on ebay works perfectly !
I ordered the Micro USB Jig from seller named patapom on 10/14/2011 and it arrived 9 days later. Simply turned off my Epic 4G touch, plugged it and VOILA! It works perfectly at resetting ODIN so it looks like you never installed any custom ROMS and NO MORE YELLOW TRIANGLE when you boot ! That seller has raised his price but there are still a bunch of other ebay sellers charging less than $2 including shipping to USA. Just put USB jig in the ebay search box and they'll all appear.

Yeah, the fun making it is understandable. If I liked dinking with electronics a little more, I'd be following this closely. Instead, I spent $2 on eBay
If you think about it, you're spending more then 2 dollars because you're destroying a micro usb cord which is a few more bucks, so 9.99 isnt a terrible terrible deal. theyre 1.99 on ebay though.

so this was shipped on oct 8th, received oct 23rd in toronto, canada.
i'm using stock rom, canadian galaxy s3.
pros:
seems like it's doing what it's suppose to, no glitches of images or anything like that. i've tried some games, HD youtube and music all worked. no need for "warm up" like some of the other MHL adapters seem to require. no lags while playing videos
cons:
- responsiveness - i'm not sure if i'm just picky or if it's just unrealistic to expect these MHL adapters to be perfect. i do notice that when i scroll around, there's a bit of a drag. not that it's not responsive, but the transition effects just arent as good on the TV as it is on the phone. i noticed it too during dead trigger, it's responsive..but just not super smooth like it is on the phone. if you guys turn on the power saving mode on your phone, that drag that you notice? that's almost what it's like.
- charging - does not charge the phone while playing videos
- signal - completely loses signal when in use
feel free to ask any questions.
Seems like a great deal! I'm hoping someone tries to see if they work properly

haha damn i usually give up after 6 pages.
anyways, why this seller? there are a lot of other sellers from china who are selling the same cable but with a lot more positive feedbacks compare to this one you posted.
and i dont think the other user meant to say the one in the 2nd link is fake. we all know it's an after market adapter, just that we haven't seen very positive reviews. with that said, someone did buy a MHL adapter that LOOKS like the one in the 2nd link, and the seller he bought from claimed that it's suppose to be a genuine samsung MHL adapter.
going back to the red one, i haven't seen any reviews so far so sorry can't help you there. i'm just waiting for a US seller to carry them so i don't have to wait 2-3 weeks for shipping from china.

yea i saw your post before. instead of posting the link to a MHL adapter that looks like the one you bought...i think it'd be more helpful to other users if you post the actual link of where you got your MHL adapter from
interestingly tho today we finally have 1 positive review for a similar looking mhl adapter
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=31994952&postcount=36
hey everyone, im trying to collect all the links to the MHL adapter reviews because there are so many threads around. i am NOT looking for the ones that talks about using the 11 to 5pin converter, just strict microUSB for gs3 to HDMI female port.
i gone thorugh 8 pages of threads and so far found 3. the rest that talked about having proeblsm are the ppl that are using the converters.
if you find something just post it in this thread and i'll copy it to the first post.

haha damn i usually give up after 6 pages.
anyways, why this seller? there are a lot of other sellers from china who are selling the same cable but with a lot more positive feedbacks compare to this one you posted.
and i dont think the other user meant to say the one in the 2nd link is fake. we all know it's an after market adapter, just that we haven't seen very positive reviews. with that said, someone did buy a MHL adapter that LOOKS like the one in the 2nd link, and the seller he bought from claimed that it's suppose to be a genuine samsung MHL adapter.
going back to the red one, i haven't seen any reviews so far so sorry can't help you there. i'm just waiting for a US seller to carry them so i don't have to wait 2-3 weeks for shipping from china.

haha, honestly, I don't usually look that many pages either. I was bored and hoping to find a US seller so I kept looking
Anyway, I really didn't want to order from China either. I should have it around October 11th so I'll report back once I get it and try it out.
Skip to test below if ur not in china or not interested in getting preview.(fake HOX pictures are the last 4 added to attachments)
Hey guys I did some investigations that because the HOX is Taiwan based then Chinese mainlanders who say Taiwan is China started selling fake HOX online.HTC IMEI's have been cracked so dont believe in checking the imei and staying there.Thats just horrible.U see the pictures,the price,the specs and everything seen looks "wow this is the real deal". The same retail price just a little bit cheaper maybe but same things said and the wrong device delivered.I got one for a friend from my beloved taobao.com which is a site I never go wrong.Then they have this ridiculous slant that "its from hongkong...that's what hongkong people use"(guess they all use the fake one x with 858x480 res,dual core processor and as thick as a loaf of bread):laugh::laugh:.Some even have the original one x external casing. Just rubbish!!Side not anyone in mainland china then planning to buy this device ask the seller if he has the European version or else don't buy.Cuz they'll send u ****!!Even though the price is close to retail and specs show yes don't be tempted.Don't buy from Guandong.Get it in the link below
TEST
If u get ur one x first checks for originality:
-check sense 4 and htc's signature features like:
1.Signature sense feature;check the camera app which should be like this
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
2.Check multitasking ui it should look like this.(check if u can swipe up to close)
3.Check htc sense 4 paperlike end of scroll effect by going to settings and trying to scroll down at the top of the menu(put ur finger on screen in settings and move it down where u see bluetooth) and u should see this
look in attachment(venom tweaks from custom rom)
4.From the above u can see on is green and off white.Not blue or non-square switches.And the first setting is not wifi.U'll have to check settings as above.
5.Check if it has a transparent status bar(not black but transparent).If ur on a black background change it to a colourful one and check.
6.The launcher at the home screen(rosie) should rotate not slide as transition effect.
7.Check for htc homebrew apps on the device like htc hub,watch,car....
8.turn on 3g,E or wifi and go to whatismyscreenresolution.com.Check that HD dude.(720x1280)
9.Check with htcsync software too.
It can have 1 sim,nonrem. battery but still fake.This guarantees u a starting point and i bet u no fake one x has all of these cuz as much as u try to copy hardware u cant copy software.Sense 4 is the big test for the nvidia quadcore.
Update: My folks in China save urself embarrassment and get this one.Use Google translate or chrome and choose asian-pacific with official package from here.(Got mine here.Trust the seller!)
Peace folks and thank if I helped.
It'll be from Shenzhen, which is just over the border, not Hong Kong.
I bought mine from HTC in Hong Kong, it has x.xx.708.x firmware.
The fake one mentioned on here has a completely different hboot.
A lot of phones (like iPhone 5) which are real, are bought in Hong Kong and sold abroad for profit (if they are in short supply, they mark them up), but the fake ones will be from Shenzhen.

I actually brought a cheap HOX on taobao, and it was a fake MT6577 or something processor...it wasnt slow and it looked almost the same as the original.
It had antutu benchmark with a "locked" score of 10225, so no matter how many times you run the test it will be 10225.
And worst of all, the seller wouldnt return the money...after a 10 day long process, I eventually got the Taobao reps to ge tmy money back (its kinda like paypal, once you click "received" your money is gone, lucky I didnt.)
Anyways, too many fakes in China these days, if you guys ever come here, only buy stuff with help from a local (sometimes even that aint enough though )

The battery surely isn't the right one.
What's under the battery?
It looks kinda a weird. I don't know if it should be in chinese

Its purchased from an online retailer that claims to ship devices from global markets. The actual battery is the correct one even though the label states otherwise. The phone was shipped with Chinese as its default language.
What concerns me is that it looks like there's something under the label (if you look closely) and that fact that it says 1300mA instead of 3100mA. And shouldn't it mention that its made in Korea like my GS3 does?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
Looks legit on : http://www.imei.info/?imei=355251056775893 .
But that font used for "Made by Samsung" is so fake . Maybe the phone it's made from different components and that label is made by the one who assambled it.
But that is not the battery but battery compartment.
Mine says the same. Post booted photos and other ones from settings-about phone

Can't the IMEI number be faked? It looks like there's two labels on top of each other which is quite puzzling.

i have a note 2 which i think is exactly the same as shown on the picture.
whats bothering me was the label on the back of the phone regarding the battery.
i have this phone for more than a month now. since i got i rooted it using exynosabuse and i was able to flash OmegaROM11. also before i rooted my phone it was being recognize by kies and i was able to register it too on samsung website.
where you able to root and flash custom rom with your phone?
i would appreciate your response, i can confirm if our device are legit.
If you could register it on Sammy's site, then it's going to be legit...

Yeah.. being able to register mu phone on sammy's site convinced me that my phone is legit.
However... whenI check my imei on imei.info, it says that my phone is 32Gb version but its actully the 16Gb version.
Also I saw someone selling a replica of note 2 online. There was a picture of the back showing the imei when i checked it on imei.info the imie exist...

Yes, it's 100% legit, everything works. I only posted a pic because the OP asked for a pic to compare against.
There's another thread where a guy bought a fake Note 2, and it's visually quite different from a Note 2 on closer inspection (ie. bezel size, chrome rings, button wonky, OS version, etc).

Ur note 2 is 100% legit... the 1300mA is ur charger rating not battery....... battery rating is in mAh not in mA.

Hey, another noob here, hope I'm not hijacking the thread or anything...
I would normally be able to tell if it's fake through packaging, etc, but this particular cases doen't have any. IMEI matches up, baseband and kernel look legit (and wouldn't it brick the phone if that was loaded onto a fake?)... But I just don't have enough experience in this field to tell. If it's real it's a great deal
Anyway, here's the link :

Any other advice you could give me (stuff to ask the seller, etc?)

I think that's a fake. It claims to be an N7100, yet there are no charging pins for inductive charging, just 2 blanking plates. Also the baseband and build numbers do not look right to me.
There also should be a tiny screw below and between the camera lens and flash LED, but there's none visible on your photo.
Finally, he doesn't have a SIM inserted. I'd ask him to show pics of it inserted and the device connected to a cell. It's not impossible that this is a store demo unit, which can't usually be connected to a network.
However, at least the guy is being honest and saying he's not sure himself it its geniune, therefore selling it as a clone...

i'd return it if you can. Looks like its excess light coming from a reflection of the lcd. It looks like my old bionic did when I didn't have enough glue between the class and the case which sets it to the screen. Maybe that could be the issue?

I did went to the service centre, they didnt do anything when i first went there.
They said that there's no replacement parts or another set for me to do an exchange.
So they said that they will do a one for one exchange for me when they have a set.
But the customer service is crap and im not using htc anymore though.
I have the exact same thing on my Verizon m8. I decided not to risk returning it for a potential refurbished phone and decided to live with it. Unfortunately it makes my screen look like crap when dark colors are on the screen because there is like a massive crease on the sides of my screen. If I tap in a certain area on my phone I get a similar effect to applying pressure on a TV monitor.

Very similar yes, except on the right side of the screen not top/bottom. There are not as many white lines either, its only a couple prominent ones. And no, I did not send it for repair I decided to keep my phone. Didn't feel like going through all the trouble although I regret it at this point.

I did went to the service centre, they didnt do anything when i first went there.
They said that there's no replacement parts or another set for me to do an exchange.
So they said that they will do a one for one exchange for me when they have a set.
But the customer service is crap and im not using htc anymore though.

But ultimately [ONLY] HTC devices last for a long time compared to others OEM's. My wildfire is up and running except for the outdated software. The battery I guess holds only (70-80) % of the charge. Lol, my GPU is faster than its CPU ! Its on its way to 4th Anniversary ! :good:

Yes, I have the same issue. I have like 3 big and 2 small lights leaking from the right side of the display. The big ones are like 1/2 cm long. Can you upload a snap with 100% brightness and power saver turned off on a black background/image ? I don't have any cameras right now to take snaps and upload them. I'll do it in 2 days. Can you please do it ? Thanks in advance :good:

This is the best I could get, it was a quick shot doesn't do complete justice to the problem but you can faintly see one mark
