Skip to test below if ur not in china or not interested in getting preview.(fake HOX pictures are the last 4 added to attachments)
Hey guys I did some investigations that because the HOX is Taiwan based then Chinese mainlanders who say Taiwan is China started selling fake HOX online.HTC IMEI's have been cracked so dont believe in checking the imei and staying there.Thats just horrible.U see the pictures, the price, the specs and everything seen looks "wow this is the real deal". The same retail price just a little bit cheaper maybe but same things said and the wrong device delivered.I got one for a friend from my beloved taobao.com which is a site I never go wrong. Then they have this ridiculous slant that "its from hongkong...that's what hongkong people use"(guess they all use the fake one x with 858x480 res, dual core processor and as thick as a loaf of bread):laugh:.Some even have the original one x external casing. Just rubbish!!Side not anyone in mainland china then planning to buy this device ask the seller if he has the European version or else don't buy.Cuz they'll send u ****!!Even though the price is close to retail and specs show yes don't be tempted.Don't buy from Guandong.Get it in the link below
TEST
If u get ur one x first checks for originality:
-check sense 4 and htc's signature features like:
1.Signature sense feature;check the camera app which should be like this

"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
2.Check multitasking ui it should look like this.(check if u can swipe up to close)
3.Check htc sense 4 paperlike end of scroll effect by going to settings and trying to scroll down at the top of the menu(put ur finger on screen in settings and move it down where u see bluetooth) and u should see this
look in attachment(venom tweaks from custom rom)
4.From the above u can see on is green and off white. Not blue or non-square switches. And the first setting is not wifi.U'll have to check settings as above.
5.Check if it has a transparent status bar(not black but transparent). If ur on a black background change it to a colourful one and check.
6.The launcher at the home screen(rosie) should rotate not slide as transition effect.
7.Check for htc homebrew apps on the device like htc hub,watch,car....
8.turn on 3g,E or wifi and go to whatismyscreenresolution.com.Check that HD dude.(720x1280)
9.Check with htcsync software too.
It can have 1 sim, nonrem. battery but still fake. This guarantees u a starting point and i bet u no fake one x has all of these cuz as much as u try to copy hardware u cant copy software.Sense 4 is the big test for the nvidia quadcore.
Update: My folks in China save urself embarrassment and get this one.Use Google translate or chrome and choose asian-pacific with official package from here.(Got mine here.Trust the seller!)
Peace folks and thank if I helped.
It'll be from Shenzhen, which is just over the border, not Hong Kong.
I bought mine from HTC in Hong Kong, it has x.xx.708.x firmware.
The fake one mentioned on here has a completely different hboot.
A lot of phones (like iPhone 5) which are real, are bought in Hong Kong and sold abroad for profit (if they are in short supply, they mark them up), but the fake ones will be from Shenzhen.

I actually brought a cheap HOX on taobao, and it was a fake MT6577 or something processor...it wasnt slow and it looked almost the same as the original.
It had antutu benchmark with a "locked" score of 10225, so no matter how many times you run the test it will be 10225.
And worst of all, the seller wouldnt return the money...after a 10 day long process, I eventually got the Taobao reps to ge tmy money back (its kinda like paypal, once you click "received" your money is gone, lucky I didnt.)
Anyways, too many fakes in China these days, if you guys ever come here, only buy stuff with help from a local (sometimes even that aint enough though )

Does anyone know where we can get this dock in the US?

Apparently, VZ was selling the el cheapo version:

no true 3 pin docking functionality built in! It was essentially a $40 piece of plastic.
Here's a video of the dock in action. This has to be the most functional dock in existence. The only thing you'd want more is probably an ext antenna connection but mobiles don't have those! LOL

Actually, pop the battery cover off. I see 4 distinct antenna looking connectors (3 smaller ones, one medium one). No idea which ones which or what they're for though.
I'd be interested in getting one of those docks as well, but am curious whether or not an extended battery could be used.
I think a ton of ppl bought the OEM extended battery:
http://www.androidcentral.com/verizon-galaxy-nexus-extended-battery-curvy-all-right-places
It doesn't "look" like it's much thicker. Hopefully Sammy was smart enough to make this dock fit standard and extended batteries.

One of the guys at a work meeting yesterday got the GN and was disappointed at the car dock. I was surprised that it didn't have the 3 pin function cuz I swore, the one I saw on the net had it.
I'll have to send him that article too, I guess VZ jipped a lot of ppl who were thinkin they got the REAL 3 pin dock.
Anyway, I can't find any place that sells this thing in America??
Amazon UK has Galaxy Nexus docks listed, but they're not available till Jan 1st. :/

Wow, don't I feel like a jackass. I actually got the verizon dock not even thinking of the possibility it might be a useless piece of poo, aka a glorified window phone holder. What a crock. Why would they ever do something like that? Worst launch ever. Also, anyone else noticing the screen isn't as scratch resistant as let's say, a droid x? I wanted this device to be so awesome, and it is, but I feel like they could have gone the extra mile and gave us the device that lived up to the hype more than this does. I mean there isn't a car home app that comes stock. Thanks for the recommendation on car home ultra. Going to give that a try until we can get our hands on the REAL car dock.

I doubt that.
If the car charger mounts directly to the mount as described, it's the higher-end mount and not the plastic doohickey currently on offer at Verizon stores.
Remember the GSM version is thinner than the verizon version, so the dock may not fit LTE phones

OK... It's been so many days and I'm thinking to buy HTC One V. One day, I read a nice review and the other day, a bad one. I'M going MAD Now.
HEATING PROBLEM
Is HTC One V on fire when talk on the phone? My sister has Sony Xperia Mini ST15i. This phone also gets a little bit heated up when we use internet for a long time or talk on it for a long time. IS HTC ONE V's PROBLEM EXTRA ORDINARY HEATING???
YELLOW SPOTS
Does EVERY HTC One V has yellow spots on the screen? If one has, would it get replaced???
BROWSER PROBLEM
I know HTC One V's browser isn't so good... BUT Can't we download ANY OTHER BROWSER AND USE IT? Will that be also like the Stock Browser?
PLEASE GUIDE ME IF I SHOULD BUY HTC ONE V. I mostly want a phone for internet, apps and games... But Not JUST for internet, apps and games!
I have this phone more than a week and I have no problem with yellow spots, but this may appear in the future.
I played on the phone for two hours playstation 1 games and I not registered overheating, even though the phone was a bit warmer.
I am using Dolphin HD and internet browsing is very smooth.
Htc One V for me is the best phone I've ever had. User interface is much faster than the HTC Evo 3D and gaming performance is little bit better than the LG optimus 2X.
It's just my feeling, others may say something completely different.
I am quite pleased with my One V and have no desire to return or exchange it. It's a great device. But the haters are going to hate and you can't stop them. Your thread title only eggs them on, unfortunately.
The fire issue?

Yellow spots? It's an adhesive issue that I think we're past now. Haven't heard of any new complaints. And contrary to what Honzac says below, if it doesn't have them, it won't get them.
Bottom line: A great entry-level device running Ice Cream Sandwich!

Since Jelly Bean hasn't even been announced and ICS is still in its infancy, I don't think there is any answer to that question.
Will SIM Card and MicroSD Card work if we loose our mobile's back cover?
Some say that after loosing their mobile's back cover, the network is lost forever!! The back cover pushes the SIM Card and MicroSD Card inside at the right place. IS THAT SO?

No. They are primarily held in by friction, but the cover insures that they aren't lost if the phone is jolted or dropped.
The back cover consists of at least three components manufactured in a two-shot molding process:
1. A molded plastic (polycarbonate) frame
2. Antennas and leads for at least WIFI and something else, but I doubt a circuit related to the SIM and SD cards as Saket suggests since their receptacles are soldered directly to the mainboard.
3. An over-molded rubber outer.
The antennas and leads are concealed between the layer of plastic and rubber.
Brilliant stuff. I used to work for a global plastics company and I'm impressed by this little part. Don't loose it because your phone needs it. Without it you'll have to WIFI.
Just buy the phone already. It's a great device!

Don't know about heating problems but I doubt it will heat like Iphone 4S does when it is charging and you play a game on it.
The yellow spots: This is interesting stuff since this issues were signaled only BY users from INDIA(?). I guess it is India! Look at these threads where the Yellow spots are signaled and you'll see that almost all the complaints came from people from India. They maybe got some lot made bad. But don't worry, those yellow spots will disappear if you play with the phone and set the brightness to maximum (basically those spots are the glue, so they will warn out in time).
Browser: Almost every smartphone has stock browsing problems because those browsers are NOT very optimized. Installing Chrome or Opera on HTC One V and it will be smooth as browsing on the computer.

Its purchased from an online retailer that claims to ship devices from global markets. The actual battery is the correct one even though the label states otherwise. The phone was shipped with Chinese as its default language.
What concerns me is that it looks like there's something under the label (if you look closely) and that fact that it says 1300mA instead of 3100mA. And shouldn't it mention that its made in Korea like my GS3 does?

Looks legit on : http://www.imei.info/?imei=355251056775893 .
But that font used for "Made by Samsung" is so fake . Maybe the phone it's made from different components and that label is made by the one who assambled it.
But that is not the battery but battery compartment.

whats bothering me was the label on the back of the phone regarding the battery.
i have this phone for more than a month now. since i got i rooted it using exynosabuse and i was able to flash OmegaROM11. also before i rooted my phone it was being recognize by kies and i was able to register it too on samsung website.

Yeah.. being able to register mu phone on sammy's site convinced me that my phone is legit.
However... whenI check my imei on imei.info, it says that my phone is 32Gb version but its actully the 16Gb version.
Also I saw someone selling a replica of note 2 online. There was a picture of the back showing the imei when i checked it on imei.info the imie exist...

Yes, it's 100% legit, everything works. I only posted a pic because the OP asked for a pic to compare against.
There's another thread where a guy bought a fake Note 2, and it's visually quite different from a Note 2 on closer inspection (ie. bezel size, chrome rings, button wonky, OS version, etc).

i have a note 2 which i think is exactly the same as shown on the picture.
whats bothering me was the label on the back of the phone regarding the battery.
i have this phone for more than a month now. since i got i rooted it using exynosabuse and i was able to flash OmegaROM11. also before i rooted my phone it was being recognize by kies and i was able to register it too on samsung website.

What is your question? Why does a genuine Note 2 look like a genuine Note 2? Or are you asking about the fake note 2 in the other thread?

Ur note 2 is 100% legit... the 1300mA is ur charger rating not battery....... battery rating is in mAh not in mA.
So all good & Enjoy......
Hey, another noob here, hope I'm not hijacking the thread or anything...
I would normally be able to tell if it's fake through packaging, etc, but this particular cases doen't have any. IMEI matches up, baseband and kernel look legit (and wouldn't it brick the phone if that was loaded onto a fake?)... But I just don't have enough experience in this field to tell. If it's real it's a great deal
Anyway, here's the link :
http://www.trademe.co.nz/mobile-phones/mobile-phones/other/auction-576709625.htm
Any other advice you could give me (stuff to ask the seller, etc?)
Thanks!

I think that's a fake. It claims to be an N7100, yet there are no charging pins for inductive charging, just 2 blanking plates. Also the baseband and build numbers do not look right to me.
There also should be a tiny screw below and between the camera lens and flash LED, but there's none visible on your photo.
Finally, he doesn't have a SIM inserted. I'd ask him to show pics of it inserted and the device connected to a cell. It's not impossible that this is a store demo unit, which can't usually be connected to a network.
However, at least the guy is being honest and saying he's not sure himself it its geniune, therefore selling it as a clone...

i'd return it if you can. Looks like its excess light coming from a reflection of the lcd. It looks like my old bionic did when I didn't have enough glue between the class and the case which sets it to the screen. Maybe that could be the issue?

Hi mate. Sorry for asking you this question as this thread was started way long back. Is your device normal after the repair, or it behaves the same ? Did the service center people put scratches on the display ? Body ? Lemme know. Thanks in advance :good:

I did went to the service centre, they didnt do anything when i first went there.
They said that there's no replacement parts or another set for me to do an exchange.
So they said that they will do a one for one exchange for me when they have a set.
But the customer service is crap and im not using htc anymore though.
I have the exact same thing on my Verizon m8. I decided not to risk returning it for a potential refurbished phone and decided to live with it. Unfortunately it makes my screen look like crap when dark colors are on the screen because there is like a massive crease on the sides of my screen. If I tap in a certain area on my phone I get a similar effect to applying pressure on a TV monitor.

Hey there, Hi. So, you're locked onto not returning the device for a new one, right ? Do they give you refurbished handsets when you return them in the US ? Or may be you get a refurbished one sometimes ?

It's luck of the draw really. Most times you'll vet a refurbished model and I wasn't willing to risk it with one of those. The screen problem is only really minor, I can live with it

Very similar yes, except on the right side of the screen not top/bottom. There are not as many white lines either, its only a couple prominent ones. And no, I did not send it for repair I decided to keep my phone. Didn't feel like going through all the trouble although I regret it at this point.

But ultimately [ONLY] HTC devices last for a long time compared to others OEM's. My wildfire is up and running except for the outdated software. The battery I guess holds only (70-80) % of the charge. Lol, my GPU is faster than its CPU ! Its on its way to 4th Anniversary ! :good:

Yes, I have the same issue. I have like 3 big and 2 small lights leaking from the right side of the display. The big ones are like 1/2 cm long. Can you upload a snap with 100% brightness and power saver turned off on a black background/image ? I don't have any cameras right now to take snaps and upload them. I'll do it in 2 days. Can you please do it ? Thanks in advance :good:

I already asked him for the picture of the invoice.. now I'm waiting for his reply.

I saw you comment and first off I'd like to say its already a chinese branded phone and very modest company, not your usual suspects for making "Phoney." (pun intended) Also I do not own the phone yet, but since you're cautious I'll still help you out.
When I buy phones from untrusted/unknown parties I always meet them in very open public places and look them in the eye when they're talking, looking for signs of anxiety or hesitation.
Now onto the phone itself:
pop the sim tray out make sure there are 2 slots (real oneplus 3 has 2 slots). okay
Go to settings> about phone check the imei with this: https://swappa.com/esn (its free and trusted site)
pop one of my sim cards in and make a phone call. go back to settings> about phone and check the baseband, model number, build number etc. and make sure they are correct/up to date.
go to the camera (usually the stock app) and I test photos and videos.
turn on bluetooth and make sure it searches for my headset which i have on at the time.
Open a web browser and see how fast the app opens and open multiple tabs and different websites in each.
For a phone like this I would feel the quality of the build because most knock-offs just don't feel like "real"
and LAST but not LEAST go to settings> security and check the fingerprint sensor, (how fast it esponds, if it responds at all, nothing is for sure but chances are very slim that a knock-off company is putting a high quality fingerprint system in a knock-off phone. I do all of this while talking to him/her about how the yankees are really sucking this year, and telling them my fantasy football team is better than theirs by a long shot.
I sure hope this helps :fingers-crossed:
Check the Android version. If it says Nougat, then it is obviously a fake one.
Thank you! Isn't there an app that can check if the phone is real? Like all the internals and camera module? I heard there's one with the name similar to AIDA..
Also, could anyone post the latest settings page where I can see the latest build/baseband and so on, please?
Thank you all

You could easily get 300 euro for OP3 so for me the real question is (and it should be your question as well) Why would the seller throw away 150 euro? Why would anybody do that? Nobody would unless something is wrong.

Looks real. Exactly like mine did whwn I got it. But what's to say that's what you will receive. Especially at half price.
Buy using a reputed site and pay using a known payment method.
That way if you do get cheated will have some way to get your money back.

If you can get internet... Download the Geekbench 3 from playstore and run a test and you should get around 2250+ singlecore score and 5400+ multicore score (If you can only download geekbench 4 then score is around 1700 for single and 4000 multicore)
