Replacement LG G4 Rear Camera not focussing properly at a distance. - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys. I broke the camera glass awhile ago and got some dust inside the lens of the rear facing cam leaving me with no choice but replacement. I first bought a replacement off of ebay... but it was a dud. My variant of the G4 didn't work with it. I have a Canadian Rogers G4. After getting my refund and doing some more research, I went for the fixez one (ow.ly/PSZL303Mjkv). Super smooth transaction. Easy install. Perfectly recognized by my G4. I usually mainly use the front facing cam, but a couple of months into having this thing, I'm noticing all pictures taken at a distance come out blurry. The phone has a hard time focussing unless it's super close. After completely resetting my device just to rule that out, same issue. I put the old cam in and found that even though there was dust present on the lens, it was perfectly capable of focussing at distances. To me, it looks like I've proved it out to be the Camera itself and not the device. Can anyone shed some light on this or help steer me in the right direction? I've reached out to Fixez and should get a response within 24 hours but I'd love to not have to go through the whole refund/search process again. Thanks guys! I love this camera, but know it can take way better pictures than I'm currently getting.

[Q] htc desire camera problem

hi,
few days ago I dropped my desire on the ground and since then I have this camera issue - I cant focus objects that are more than 30 cm far from camera - it's all blury. in close it works very good, like it should.
all that i could figure out is - that focusing mechanism stucks at certain point and cant focus objects in far.
i wanted to ask if anyone has had similar problem?
is this camera defect repairable or should I buy new one? and are cameras for desire sold seperately anyway?
Thanks in advice.
The Camera isnt like a digital camera, there is no Optical (moving/mechanical) zoom, its all Digital Zoom, cameras are repareable and you can proably pick one up off ebay
Oddly enough when you take the picture and see it on the Phone/Computer is it blurry??
http://content6-foto.inbox.lv/albums137027374/martinzg/htc/focus.jpg
in title there is link of the example of what I get from my camera
Oddly enough it looks like tap to zoom on the keyboard, but with things in teh distance they are slightly blurred as an out of focus camera effect, oddly enough have you tried flashing the same ROM again??
Additionally you can always look at the repair option just as a safety net, ebay should have cameras (might be hard to spot to start off with though) and you can always look to the shops for repair info/advice, just dont tell them you dropped it like i did, as it appears warrenties dont cover accidental damage (damn Apple Store)
there is no changes when I take photo with flashlight - it's still blurry.
so, do you have any idea why pictures in distance is out of focus?
couldnt it be some kind of mechanical defect?
I have the exact same issue martinzg.
Will focus up close but not on anything over a foot away.
Contacted HTC this morning waiting for a reply.
I have the same problem here.. any news?
exact same problem here
old post, but I have the same issue !
Anyone a solution ?

One X focus issue

I have tried different roms/kernels what not. But i wasn't able to resolve this issue. Camera seems to be fine outdoors. But while I am taking pictures of something close, The camera doesn't focus at all. What so ever. Tried different apps/settings. I bought a unlocked phone from taiwan. It doesn't have warranty in India. So, warranty is out of question.
I am including couple of sample images. Can you guys please help me figure out whats going on?
Thank you, guys.
first of all , i love the view of from your window . I have the same issue as you , but not all the time with closed objects , also when i try to scan the qr code of airdroid it doesn't work no idea why , i have to log on to see my phone (which is fine ) , but as you said i find a focus problem at me too. Try to reset camera to default , worked for me :-??
I did that. But no result.
and another doubt, If it is a hardware issue, how come pictures are good when it is out doors?

Have you looked at the camera lens cover? Smudges and scratches can screw with focal range depending on at what focal distance the mark becomes visible to the sensor.
Smartphone and P&S cameras use exposure-based autofocus systems. As the AF drops focal distance a lens defect can begin to creep into it's focal range, distorting it's ability to gauge proper exposure and therefore focus is off.

When you pan around and stop does the camera attempt to autofocus? Or is it constantly at the same focal distance?
NO, it is not trying to autofous. Focus seems to be fixed. It is adjusting brightness though.
I found myself exactly in the same kind of situation one day. After a few experiments I realized that camera focusing mechanism is no longer working and probably because I had dropped the phone few days earlier. I can still manipulate focus between infinity or macro by tapping the phone quite hard but not too hard. It's working, because of the lens in front of the sensor can move freely. So tapping phones back moves lens away from sensor and you can shoot close ups, tapping front on the screen (just be carful) moves lens closer to sensor and you get infinity focus.
Just ordered new replacement camera. Let's see how that goes.
I hope I made any sense.

Thats it. That did it. Now I can do macros.
Felling good after figuring out what is wrong. But its awful to know that I have a hardware issue. I didn't dropped the phone even once. I am taking care of it like it is a baby. I got the phone couple of weeks go. Damn. How much will the replacement cost. approximately?

Well, if it's a new phone then it should go under warranty and shop or authorized service center will probably fix it for free. In my case the phone is no longer under a warranty and I will replace camera myself. Found one in e-bay. There are quite a lot of options. Wheater those are real deals and will the camera be the model that fits remains to be seen when I get mine this week. I will deffinitely post my experience replacing the camera.
The phone is not under warranty. Will take it to local HTC service center and will enquire about the possibilities.
having the same issue on different roms
As promised here is my experience with camera replacement. Few people in this forum have have shared their experience with replacement cameras and mainly those have been not good since they got wrong camera module. It's actually quite a bit gamble, when you buy camera module from eBay, because many sellers don't actually post correct specs and you really don't know what you are getting. For example, HOX+ camera does not work correctly on HOX. Maybe some models do but you never know.
I was lucky and the module I got http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130968093640 was right one and I must say that probably my original camera was a bit faulty since day one, because I never got this kind of quality as I do now.
Word of caution though, taking HOX apart is really quite tedious and delicate job. Specially when you need to remove also the motherboard. So find and study instructions on this forum and on Youtube before you are going to attempt to do it on your own.

[Q] focusing issue

Hello guys! Currently using the LG G3 for a couple of months now. I just found that the focus of this phone is completely garbage when it comes to close up and macro shots. I already tried searching google and android forums including XDA (maybe I'm bad at searches, I don't know LOL). I'm not sure if mine is a dud but whenever I bring an object near point blank range, it seems to have difficulty focusing on it. I tried comparing it with a Note 3 and iPhone 5S by bringing a lightning cable tip and USB cable tip near the camera.. Both focused on the objects except the G3. It seems to be fixed on the background objects, I even tried on a white canvas and close up focus still does not work! I even tried wiping the laser beside the camera, cleaning it with a microfiber cloth. Still doesn't focus at very near objects.
Help? Please? Will appreciate the replies! I hope I'm just missing a feature or just maybe forgot to turn something off. I really don't want to switch phones because so far this is the best. This is a deal breaker for me though if this doesn't work out well.
EDIT: problem is still there. i thought turning over the phone and making the laser autofocus stay at the bottom would help solve my problem with this phone. still nothing. i tried putting a pencil close to the lens like "in your face" close, and it really can't focus on it! Note 3 and iPhone 5S was able to focus on it but not the LG G3..
Probably the laser angle can't change, so if it's super-close to the camera lens the laser doesn't actually hit the object, thus it never focuses.

I suspect the same thing. If that is the case, then I'm quite disappointed with LG for this. Everything is spot on about this smartphone except this tiny (but irritating) issue. I'm already considering selling it just because of this. I take pictures of objects, most of the time super close, so people can see the smaller details. Using other camera apps didn't help. Really a hardware stretch I guess.
How close are you taking these pics? I've taken pics of my food and it focused okay. Of course if impromptu macro shooting is something you do often... this'll be a deal breaker for you.

Sometimes I take photos of small gadgets' details like the voltage of the charger, tip of the usb port etc. to show a few people like what comes with the package and stuff. Still undecided though, I'm about to trade to an M8 but i told the guy to hold on. Have to read more about this.

strange camera issue (working, but not really)

hey xda,
got a pretty weird issue on my brother's m8. the camera works pretty much perfectly for regular pics, but when something is small, or close to the lens (like text on a piece of paper or something) the camera will focus perfectly, then over the course of a few seconds, slowly "de-focus" creating a doubling effect. If you put the phone to your ear, you can hear the camera moving, and also the minute vibrations can be felt through the phone.
the phone was taken in today for a replacement LCD and battery, but the technician was told to check out the camera as well. he said he tried 3 camera modules and they all had the same problem.
I also clean flashed a new rom on today to see if that might fix it, but here I am on xda. Just hoping someone here might have some insight, since this issue isn't like all the camera issue threads you find with a google search.
I can post a sample pic if that helps. thanks!

Definitely sounds like an issue with the autofocus. To confirm, is this on stock firmware with the OnePlus camera app or gcam mod?
As the OnePlus 9 phones use a laser autofocus, I'd check that nothing is obstructing the focus lens first (to the right of the top camera sensor). If you have a camera glass protector, there ones I've used put a hole there to avoid distortion but with the downside dust builds up and I need a qtip to clean it.
If this is right, the reason it works at first is it goes to its default focus level on boot and tapping to focus then directs the laser
Its a stock firmware with One Plus camera app. No lens protektora used. She uses original case what was un the box.
Assuming the laser isn't at fault, I'd say there's likely defective hardware, multiple parts it could be though. You could try the gcam mod app and see if that helps, if it were better there, then we would know its software and not hardware, but that's unlikely given the problem.
Ok. Will try
