Apparently this method does not work anymore
I have an another method too #wickdst0ne
Just create a folder named com.android.vending-1.apk, and put it on /data/app/ folder.
This also works for Google Play Services: com.google.android.gms-1.apk and com.google.android.gms-2.apk on the same /data/app folder.
If the apk isn't integrated in the system, these folders will make it back to factory version.
Sorry for my English guys

Same problem for me and same ROM...
what you need to do is put your desire in recovery and use adb to delete google maps. just mount /system/ and use the command rm /system/app/maps.apk then you can just reinstall google maps from the market

Tried this, still fails to install. Now I don't have maps. Fancy uploading your Maps.apk please?
Edit: Scrap that, check out this.
You can also try this, did it yesterday and working fine.
To remove Google Brut so you van instal the original Google Maps follow the steps. Works fine.
1.
Remove the following files from your phone.
The first two files (red) I did not delete but temporary renamed with Root Explorer to com.google.android.maps.jar.old and com.google.android.maps.xml.old
com.google.android.maps.jar in system\framework
com.google.android.maps.xml in system\etc\permissions
maps.apk in system\app (delete this one from phone)
2. Reboot
3. Extract Maps.apk from the downloaded ROM file. Find it in system\app
4. Copy back or rename back the xml & jar file, and install the maps.apk from the removed rom manually using htc sync or the way you normaly install a APK file.
5. Reboot
6. Uninstall Google Map. You uninstal the installed version from step 4.
7. Reboot to recovery, clear cache & dalvik cache
8 Install google map from market
9. Done
Quick question regarding Google navigation brut. Once u r navigating , and for example u take a wrong turn , .. The navigation voice won't tell u that u have taken a wrong turn or the term , rerouting ! any suggestions ..
Sent from LeeDroid powered by HTC Sense using XDA App!
just google for "Move2SD Enabler". On the Play Store it will say not compatible, so just look for it on other place. It works perfectly on my phone, DXLB1, and below DXLB1 (i forget what it is). it only needs root access.
it moves the apps to .android_secure on SDCard (according to my dad)! so do not delete the folder even its empty when you open it.
I always annoyed by seeing all the existing apps in the play store that I no longer wanted. I found this modded Google Play give you that option to remove it from your "all" menu in the play store.
ROOT required - You can either do it manually replace the Phonesky.apk in the /system/app (unzip the file attached - and don't forget to change the permission rw-r-r--) or use flashable cwm zip.
here - Google Play v.3.9.16
Enjoy !!!
Edit: BTW- You might have to re-create PlayStore shortcut in the home launcher.
Great found

I have a few apps like facebook google plus and google maps which are by default installed in XperiaS.
I am rooted stock ics. 45 build.
Can I remove or delete the applications from system/app cause any problems?
And I want to install them from playstore if I need them.
So anyone tell me which.directory does the app we install from playstore are installed so that i.can move apps from sys/app in that folder..
Yes you can and yes, you can easily uninstall/move them.
Use root explorer to move the app/apk that you not want to move from System/app to your SD Card Folder.
Just make sure not to delete or move any system apk, that is required to run the OS.
More Specific instructions by Redstarr1 below- so follow it, u shud b fine.

So auni already told you you can remove apps like Facebook, G+ and Gmaps easily from /system/app. If you want the app back as a "normal" app, you can:
- copy those apps to /data/app, I'd go with one of the following options though
- copy those apps to your external storage and install them like you would any other app (so once you copied the app outside of /system, press it and a dialog will open)
- delete those apps and install them from Play Store.
