Car kit Bluetooth problem, help pls :( - HTC 10 Questions & Answers

Hi everyone,
So I bought my HTC 10 a month ago.
Yesterday I took one of my cars, which I haven't driven for a long time, and tried to pair my phone with the car kit. For the record, I have a Parrot Mki9200 installed, since the car's kit did not have BT.
Now the weird part:
- I search the device - OK
- I pair the devices - everything still OK
-after that, it is supposed to instantly connect with the unit and then download my contacts. Long story short, it cannot connect, no matter what. I tried many times but all that happens is I keep waiting until I get an error from the phone " unable to connect" and then something like "make sure that your devices are one, etc".
I could really use some help on this. I even made a factory reset on the Bluetooth unit just to eliminate any conflicts. I called the authorized service in my country and they told me it should be a problem with the phone.
The weird thing is that my M8 connects flawlessly (on Android 6.0), so does a Huawei P9 lite on Marshmallow, so do all the other devices.
Any help?? The last thing I want is to make a factory reset on the phone and make no difference whatsoever.
Is there any way to reset the BT settings on the phone without factory reset? Any other way to fix it or even find the cause?
FYI, on 1.90 firmware currently, no root.
Any help will be highly appreciated, since I cannot imagine what else I can do with a new phone and no option to connect it in my car.
Thanks in advance,
Cheers,
Thanos

A few hours ago I finally found the culprit of the problem, just to let anyone know if they have the same issue.
When you are requested to enter the pairing PIN, a bit below there is an option to allow the BT unit to download the contacts, which is selected by default as always.
All phones never have a problem with that.
Anyhow, this time I deselected this option and guess what, it instantly connected!
Afterwards I selected again this option in settings and now everything works like a charm, it connects instantly every time and the contacts are properly synced.
Best regards,
T.

Hi thanito,
Thanks for the hint ! I had the same problem, your comment was very helpful, I could connect my phone. Although phone works fine and contact are correctly synced, I'm not able to connect the device in Media Audio mode.
The Bluetooth in the car shows "Audio connected". In the device I see only Phone Audio and Contact Sharing. I unpaired and paired it again unsuccessfully.
Do you have an idea how to correct the problem?
Thanks for your help
Fred

Do you have the same car kit unit? Did you try to enter the settings of the paired device and select media audio?

Hi, yes is the same car kit. It went suddenly wrong, I didn't change any settings. I tried to unpair and pair it many times.
When I'm pairing the device I can't select media audio. I'm only asked if I agreed to sync the contacts.
Something strange: when I get a call whatsapp, Soma or Google Duo, I can hear it trough the car Bluetooth for few second then it cuts.
I don't see how to add the Media Audio to a paired device.
Moreover, I don't have Media Audi problem when I connect the HTC10 to the MINI Bose Bluetooth. It works perfectly
Car kit works properly with my Samsung S6 Edge: Phone Audio, Audio Media & Contact sync.

Hi,
See my picture: Audi... = Car Kit, MINI Bose = Music Bluetooth player.
In the options for the paired Audi, I don't have Media Audio and can't select this option. few weeks ago it was ok and suddenly, the Media Audio option disappeared. I can't set it again.

I see..
Did you try unpairing/deleting stored device from both devices?
Usually in factory car kits you get the option to delete the paired device from the memory.
When done, try to find again the phone from the car kit or the car kit from the phone, uncheck the option for the contacts, then recheck it and hope that you are asked to allow media audio access, contact access, etc. I remember that I am prompted for these every time I pair the phone with a new BT device

[Q] Bluetooth pairing problems Note 2 AT&T

Just got my new AT&T Galaxy Note 2 yesterday and tried it out with my BT headsets and car stereo . Only one was able to pair successfully . It was my old Motorola S9 headsets. My Senheiser headphones would not even show up as a device . My Valor car stereo would show up as a device , but wouldnt pair. I never had this problem with my iphone . Really need this feature to work with all my devices. Anybody have any solutions ?
I notice a BT issue with my Kenwood Receiver in my truck. The BT goes in and out sometimes and sometimes it just play through. Pretty weird! My Note never had these issues...

I have the same issue, this morning I was using my motorola BT headphones and my signal would go in and out. It happened more when my phone went to sleep, once i pressed the home button the connection was restored.
Im going to have to look at the condituon in which it switches off to see if I can confirm that. However when I would first get in my truck and connect it wiuld act funny. I would press play on my device and there would be no sound. Then I would press play on the receiver and sometimes it would play. Then I would turn the BT off and back on from my phone and it might work good for a stretch. I did notuce when it would act up and I try and force connect from my reciever I would get an error on the reciever.

Yall r making sure that your not trying to connect multiple devices to the same bluetooth service right?
After that, try a bluetooth paring tool
I had to get one so my bluetooth keyboard would map corectly
After that, try root, and a rom with the android bluetooth stack instead of the samsung one.

Mine won't pair with the Pioneer in my truck. Says automatic pairing failed. When I go to bluetooth settings in the Pioneer, then it connects. Two other Android phones work perfectly.
Try clearing the settings. Try a bluetooth antena fixer

Im having the same problem with an Alpine 133BT. it will work, then Ill get out of the car for a while. Ill then get back in and it will see the phone but bluetooth will not work.
This has me worried, hope it works in my car when I get my note 2 on thursday. If its the same stack that was in the Galaxy S2 Skyrocket then that worked for me.
Does it support SMS over bluetooth?

Yes one device at a time with other turned off. I will keep looking into it after getting back from Vacation. Thanks
Problems here too after none with note 1. Factory 2011 subaru impreza radio with bt streaming. Every time I leave the car and restart, the wheel controls no longer work, I have to reboot the phone to fix it. Every once in a while it skips. A reset also cures that fwiw. I'd love to find a solution!

In my truck I only have one device connected. It will connect right away but after about 15 seconds of initial playing music the bluetooth on my truck receiver cuts off then it comes back and connect again and then I have to push play again to get it to play. It is very weird. Sorry I don't flash roms, but I am rooted so that I could freeze the bloatware and bluetooth my PS3 Controller with my device. I wonder if the bluetooth version in my truck is conflicting with the updated bluetooth version on the phone. Just a thought, I'm not too keen on a lot of this stuff.

Rom is the only way I know to change the stack.
You dont flash? Well to each his own I guess. Me I like updates n bloatware removal, custum kernels, and the carrier out of my business.
Your problem sounds like its your radio not your phone. That goes for the quoted person here.
For everyone. If your radio worked with another fone but not this one. Prolly the bluetooth stack. Prolly that ur bluetooth in ur radio is old.
This is why I do not support or buy radios with bluetooth built in
Search ebay "bluetooth 3.5mm receiver" the lil usb powered dongal with a headphone plug is what I use. Works like a charm

Well I took a leap and flashed a rom HERE - Multi Window Control. AT&T Note 2 dod not come with MWC. Ifound when I flashed this rom there was no difference. I bet the issue is the out dated Radio as you said. It is probably 4 to 5 years old with a bluetooth dongle that plugs into it. Maybe this Kenwood receiver will allow me to use another aftermarket BT dongle. It would be worth the research.
Here is my reciever so you will have a better understanding.

For whatever reason it would not let me insert the image in the post above. But you can see here the BT dongle. Without this the BT will not work. Maybe it is not brand specific. I will check into it and see what happens.

Since starting this thread , I have run into problems by getting myself into a boot loop . After 3 days of reading every post to get my phone up and running again on stock firmware, I found only 1 solution that worked for me . Happy as can be , O thought would try out the BT on my car stereo again , and low and behold it worked . SO , if your saying the BT in your behicle is old , that may be true , but there are other tweaks that you should be able to make on your device to get it to work . My car stereo is a Valor , which was a cheap 2 din touch screen with BT /usb/sdcard . all the fixins for under $300 . I guess you get what you pay for . Good luck .

I can say only that after I had the boot load problem and installed the other tar files I found here , it started working for me . Cant say that was what did it , but you never know . I hate those BT dongles . Bought one for my New HP Pavilion and it didnt work at all .
I have my AT&T Note II non-rooted and it pairs fine with my JayBird Freedom Sprint Headset and my 2009 Mercedes truck. No issues so far all features work as expected.

Nexus 5X and Skoda Superb Bluetooth Pairing Problems

I've got a Skoda Superb with Columbus head unit. I've paired half a dozen phones (Nexus One, Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 4, iPhone 5, 2 x Z5 Compact) with it successfully until I got my Nexus 5X.
The procedure is to use the car's multi-functional display to search for a nearby device with the phone at the Bluetooth settings screen and with Bluetooth on. The car displays a 16 digit code made of 4 sets of consecutive numbers, e.g. 3333 4444 5555 6666 which is then entered as a PIN in the handset.
After a little handshaking that's usually the end of it. But the Nexus 5X then wants another PIN entered, but the car continues to give a 'connecting...' message with no PIN displayed. After much trial and error I've found that if I supply the same number again quickly enough it'll sometimes accept it. The car then flashes the PIN - if a different PIN is shown then the phone fails to connect.
Assuming a connection is made the car then prompts to name the device and create a user profile, appears to download contacts etc. I've not yet had time to test fully what functions are and aren't available at this point.
In any event the phone won't reconnect when I leave the car and come back. The car immediately displays a PIN to enter, but it doesn't appear to be attempting to connect as the phone never displays the PIN entry dialogue.
Additionally I get a permanent notification on the Nexus 5X showing the Bluetooth icon titled 'Bluetooth SIM access' and the message 'Request client to disconnect?'. There's a disconnect button on the notification which doesn't appear to do anything, and I can't clear the notification without restarting the phone.

Any other suggestions please?
Unpairing problems
Hi huntajc,
I had similar problems pairing/connecting to my Audi MMI system. After many attempt, MMI reboots, clearing contacts, removing all BT paired devices, etc. it worked. Don’t ask me what the trick was. But… the doesn’t unpair. I also get the same message in my N5X when leaving and turning off the car. In the top left (!) corner a BT sign appears also with the message 'Request client to disconnect?'. The disconnect button on the notification doesn't appear to do anything. When using the car again the N5X won’t connect. However when turning off and on the BT on the N5X, the `Request client to disconnect?` disappears and the phone pairs again with the MMI system. No idea how to set the N5X such that it unpairs automatically.
Greetings,
Materie62

I own a Superb myself and had also problems with pairing the device. It prompt everytime to pair the phone..
After i unchecked 'contact sharing', the phone connects without any problems. I hope this will fix your problem too.
Hi, is there anyone else having the same issue? I have got it since I bought this phone on November 2015. It was never resolved by any security update, nor Nougat.
I can make through the paring cycle just by guessing what PIN will BT unit require. It is then paired and will connect automatically, but the connection everytime takes maybe 45 seconds instead of just seconds like with any other phone. Could this be reason to ask for warranty repair?
The other issue that could be caused by the same bad BT is that when I am using Waze on the phone, its voice commands are supposed to go through the Columbus unit's audio. This unfortunately only works when there is and ongoing call. If no call, the command is just lost.

Yes, I have a similar problem with the Superb's Columbus headset and my Nexus 6P. They pair successfully but cut the mobile data connection so there is a 'no network' message. Sometimes phone calls or texts get through but are not logged on the phone.
I now rarely the use the Bluetooth but use the phone's speakers. Time for a change.
Any help would be most welcome.

Android Wear 6.0 and Vehicle bluetooth

So, i have 2 different vehicles that have Bluetooth calling. When i get in my car, the vehicle connects to my phone and i can make and receive calls through the car and the sound goes through the speakers. Now that my watch is connected as a calling device with the new speaker activated, my vehicles will not connect to my phone. The only i can think of around this is to disable the Bluetooth or enable airplane mode on the watch which is a real pain every time i get it my car. Anyone else have this issue and a solution?
Same here, the car will connect to the phone but will then disconnect. This keeps repeating. If I turn watch off, car connects to phone OK.

Oh, that's bad! But it's somehow also logical. The phone can only be connected to one handsfree/handset device at a time. Even so the car audio is the better choice, the phone does not know this, and will just stay connected to the watch.
Have you tried to connect to the car audio by the BT menu on the smartphone? You car audio is listed under paired devices and you can connect to it manually.
Maybe it will also remember this decision.
---------- Post added at 08:26 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:16 PM ----------
Just searched a bit on the internet. The problem is not new, as people with headsets and a BT car stereo experienced the same problems in the past, so maybe there is already a solution for this. I quickly searched and found a potential solution by apps, that manage the BT connection and offer prioritization, like this one claims to be capable of: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.myklos.btautoconnect
Maybe this is also something you may investigate into.
I'm very interested on a solution, because I drive a lot of rental cars and I usually connect my phone to the car stereo (if available).
Completely disconnecting the watch is not an option for me, as one reason for buying the watch was to get quick notifications also when I'm in the car.

just disable in the bluetooth settings of the watch on the phone the "phone audio" and it works fine again.
Had the same problem that my car connected to my phone and played music, but the calls were still connected with my watch

Yeah, but if you disable on the watch, you can't use the speaker that was just activated on the watch to make calls.
I actually found a program called triggers that will disconnect the watch and allow the car to connect.

I tried that. Doesn't help if you are already connected to the watch and get in your car.
Apple watch doesn't have this problem. Google really need to fix this.

Yes, I have this problem too. I will try to play with BT priority, maybe it will help.
So I tried using triggers and it worked to activate my car bluetooth. However, the sound does not go through my car stereo. I went in and had to disable phone calling on the watch bluetooth in my phone to get my car to work correctly. It sucks to have a speaker on a watch and you can't even use it to make calls because it interferes with other devices. I think the basic fix for this is to have a widget or shortcut on the Watch to enable airplane mode when you get into your car. Right now you have to go into settings and scroll through to get to airplane mode.
All I have to do is pull down the quick settings and choose my cars Bluetooth instead of the watch and it switches just fine
yes, priority do not work.

This works for me also. For those having the issue here is one option. Use tasker and secure settings plugin. Create a profile in tasker to monitor BT near. Choose your cars BT. Create a task that uses secure setting plugin to connect to cars Bluetooth. Once done whenever your phone sees the cars BT it will connect. Rooting is not necessary.

Create a task that uses secure setting plugin to connect to cars Bluetooth. Once done whenever your phone sees the cars BT it will connect. Rooting is not necessary.

I used tasker and triggers to get my car to connect to my phone. The problem is, as long as bluetooth is enabled for the watch, i don't get sound through my car. I have to actually disable the watch to get sound to work.

I'm not having that problem. Might try with secure settings to see if you get a different result. If not it must be a phone or car head unit thing.

It seems that bluetooth near is actually working. I never even knew that existed. Hope it continues. Thanks
Can anyone give me a newbies guide to what you're talking about with triggers and tasker and how to configure?
I'm aware of tasker and have used it a long time ago when I used to root my Android devices, but I'm not entirely sure about the config nowadays especially for this kind of thing.

In the market for a new phone and have a Bluetooth question

Hi all, I'm in the market for a new phone, though, that's not what I want to ask. I'm interested in the bluetooth functionality.
What I'd like to know is for all you Xiaomi Mi 6 owners out there - Are you able to have multiple bluetooth devices connected at the same time, just like the S8+? And I'm not talking about dual audio.
To elaborate on the question. I have the leeco le pro 3 and normally have my bluetooth headset everyday. When I jump in my car, the phone connected to the bluetooth car which is expected, however, the phone completely disconnects the bluetooth headset. I just tested out a friends galaxy s8+ and was able to have both bluetooth devices connected at the same time, and "hot swap" between the 2. I'm not sure if this is the result of Apt X technology, android OS version or even the mfr's ROM config.
Can the Mi 6 do that?
Yep, I can do that on my Mi6 - AICP 13.1
The phone is contently connected to my watch (Amazfit pace).
and it connects to my headphones seamlessly.
although i haven't tested 2 BT headset at the same time.
I can test it tonight if it helps
Thank you, yes can you please test it with 2 audio and/or phone channels. In my case, I have a bluetooth car receiver and a bluetooth headset that I want to have connected at the same time, so I can switch between them. I have an old phone that doesn't allow 2 of the same type (phone/audio) channel streams to be connected at the same time. I know that most phones can't stream to 2 at the same time, but I want them to stay connected so I can hot swap.
Below is how my Bluetooth looks when I connect to 2 devices of the same channel. I can't have both phone and audio on both bluetooth devices *connected* at the same time.

Well, I've played with it a little....
As you can see in the attached picture, I have my Amazfit Pace Smartwatch connected.
JBL BT headset for music
And Sena for calls.
You have to set profiles for each one; you can have two BT connections for music or calls, you have to pick what goes where.
But at a click of a button I can switch between them (is this what you call "hot swap"?)
As far as I know, both the Samsung and the Xiaomi have BT 5.0
So I don't think it's a hardware limitation.
It's also worth mentioning that I'm using a custom rom:
AICP 13.1, stable build, ver 21.05.18, based on LOS 8.1

Hey @R0ttenB4ndit
Just now saw your edit
well, I've done some digging and.... not good
With Android Oreo (I use ver 8.1) I now have the ability to set the AVRCP version to 1.6 (insted of 1.4)
I can also select a variety of Audio Codecs, but no matter what I choose (eg. aptX HD) it wouldn't stick, only SBC works for now.
It's 100% software limitation, just like I said earlier
both SGS8+ and the MI6 have BT 5.0 (and the Pixel2 and OPO5 and others)
but so far, only Samsung has used Android Oreo BT5 abilities
I guess it's a matter of time and ambition from our devs.
BTW, if it help, android P should bring us the ability to connect to 5 devices!

Edit2:
well, I stand corrected, it's not a software thing,

Samsung did something differently, that is why they can do it while others can't.
sucks....
BTW, ZTE did it too with the AXON M

[*]You have to set profiles for each one; you can have two BT connections for music or calls, you have to pick what goes where.
Yeah that's what I have to do now, because when I connect the second device... the previous device will get completely disconnected from the phone. I have to go in an manually choose which profile goes on what device to have both connected, but that doesn't help me since I can't push (for instance) the answer button and have the bluetooth transfer the call or media over to the specified BT device.
[*]But at a click of a button I can switch between them (is this what you call "hot swap"?)
Do you mean the click of a physical button?? Yes ! that's what I mean as hot swap. When I press a button on one headset, I want the active call or media to be transferred to it automatically. Instead of now I am having to go in and switch profiles, or even disconnect one of the two devices.
[*]So I don't think it's a hardware limitation.
Yeah I am starting to think it's software implemented like you said. Do you think otherwise now?
[*]With Android Oreo (I use ver 8.1) I now have the ability to set the AVRCP version to 1.6 (insted of 1.4)
Not sure what AVRCP is, but does it change anything for you with using 2 bluetooth devices though?
[*]BTW, if it help, android P should bring us the ability to connect to 5 devices!

Good to know ! but I can't even connect to 2 devices at the same time ! Does android P do this?

Ah, so wait? It is a hardware limitation then???
Thanks so much for your help

It has been a mini rollercoaster.
To make a long story short:
Right now, with Android 8.1
The mi6 operates just like your 'old' phone.
Not like the s8.
Why is this like this? Is it hardware? Is it software?
I have no idea.
As of right now, I found that a ZTE axon m is supposed the have the same "dual audio" as the s8.
If it's really the case, then it should be a matter of software.
I've downloaded the axon m kernel and in the few days will poke around when I'll have a time away from work.
I've also heard that the LG v30 have dual audio, but haven't looked into it.
If you need to buy a new phone NOW, and you MUST have that ability, then the MI6 is a no go.
This could be a nice project, but like everything here on XDA...I can't give an ETA.

Thanks for the help! For the sake of being clear.... "dual audio" is not the same thing as having multiple Bluetooth devices *connected* simultaneously. "Dual audio" is what Samsung named the feature which streams audio to 2 devices simultaneously. I'm not sure if this is a Samsung thing or not. hopefully you understood what I meant earlier, which it seemed like you did . I don't need audio played on both. I just want to swap between the 2 with the push of a button on the device itself.
The Dual Audio feature has been released with the Samsung Galaxy S8, S8+ & Note8. When two devices are connected via Bluetooth at the same time, the Dual audio feature allows the user to play sound on both devices.

I planned on buying the new Xiaomi Mi 7 when it comes out, but the rumored specs show that it has the exact something Bluetooth features as the previous gen which is why I asked here
Thanks again.

Help me with my Dasaita PX5 MTCE 8.0 Unit

Hi XDA Gurus,
Recently purchased a Dasaita MTCE PX5 unit running Oreo 8.0. Upgraded to the latest MCU and software package straight away.
I just have a few issues and some advice that I was hoping to get from you guys.
Issues that I have..
1. Radio app or easy connection auto launches when I boot up my head unit - Is there anyway I can disable this.. searched and found a thread that mentions downloading startup manager and disabling it from there.
2. When both my OBDLink MX device and iPhone is paired to my headunit via Bluetooth, sound crackles and sometimes my OBD monitoring apps have intermittent disconnection to my OBD. Is this a common issue when 2 devices are paired.
3. Dashcommand app needs to be closed via task killer along with torque before it connects and works properly. Could this also be related to an app like torque auto starting in the background..
Need your recommendations..
1. Should I root my device via kingoroot? What’s the advantages.
2. Should I install Malaysk rom, what are the advantages. If my issues above can be resolved without custom rom I probably don’t need to buy if installing malaysk rom is beneficial then I will go for it.
3. How do I get more control over my device, I feel the settings are too basic for advanced functions.
Appreciate any feedback you guys can give me because I really like my carwebguru interface that I created and if 2 Bluetooth devices paired doesn’t play nice together then I’m happy using the CarPlay dongle that I should be receiving soon.

Don't run Dash command and Torque at the same time. This may be causing your Bluetooth problem with the crackling noise. So choose one or the other. I prefer Torque over any other OBD software.
As for the unit running easy connection at startup, once it's started go into the option menu on easy connection and disable the option for auto start.
I'm using a PX5 unit on 8.1 without said problems.
Hope this helps fella.

Thanks for the reply... I’m running them independently, never at the same time... that causes issues for me too.
When I run torque + phone at the same time I get crackling.
Easy connection doesn’t have an option within the app settings to stop it running at startup. Do you mean within App Info in android settings?

Hi
It's in the app itself. I will double check later on mine and post exactly what to do. But being it's only 6.10am and -5 degrees it's too cold to be looking now [emoji3587][emoji3587]

Sorry for you, the Dasaita , has audio problems caused by hardware (sound crackles) a lot of us have the same problem (looks like it has a shielding problem on the hardware)
*Wifi had (hiss sounds when downloading from the internet), I solved It changing the horrible wifi antenna.
*Some other has sound crackles when the unit is reading from the usb devices (usb dongles, cameras and other things).
*Some other has blank sound when they are calling from the bluetooth.
*Some other has blank sound and static when playing music.
Till now Dasaitia does nothing to resolve this problems. Almost all PX5 units from diferent brands has the same problem.
Do not try to root, it will kill your device (Dasaitia says that this thing is not rooteable)
Inside the option menu you can turn off the autostart.
