Randomly crashing units. Any truth to this? - Note 7 Questions & Answers

http://www.phonearena.com/news/Some...inexplicably-ours-included.-Brickgate_id84611

Mine randomly restarts and when Android loads it asks me for a password that I don't even have. Its the same password that you need to use when you select the "Secure Boot" but I don't have that option checked so no matter what password I type it won't unlock unless I go to recovery and flash the no encrypt mode, and I have to do that every single time it restarts by itself. So annoying.

There's a thread on this here somewhere.

This worries me as I was going to purchase an international version to use on T-Mobile . May hold off for now

[Q] Bypass Activation?

I have a broken Verizon Nexus that cannot connect to networks so activation is impossible. I can't emergency call using ## numbers, nothing.
I still want to use this phone and I get that it will never make phone calls or get texts if it's not activated.
Thanks, Google. Now let me the #@%^! in!
Any ideas how to get into the OS? 4 corners trick doesn't work. Volume up/down doesn't work. Activation just searches for signal for hours. How is there not a "Activate Later" option?!
EDIT: Damnit, I just realized this is in General. Someone move to Q&A please!
Because on Verizon, if they notice u using a smartphone, they apply a data plan automatically, so there's no way to use their smartphones without activating it

You could get someone to post a like-stock nandroid and flash that maybe?

But it's got no SIM card.... so it can't be used as a phone... so why do they care? *headshake*

Any up-to-date permanent root methods out there whose links aren't to spam websites or dead links to utilities that don't exist anymore?
Flash a ROM, problem solved.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
There are a few ways to do this I believe. You can either flash a rom (without the gapps, just the rom!) or you can pull the "activation wizard" (IDK it's actually called) out of the gapps that comes with a rom (if you're flashing a gapps/rom combo), and then you won't come up with the initial google screen thing (telling you to sign in, activate, etc.).

**Sigh**
That's missing the point.
Aside from me not wanting to root it and definitely not wanting a custom ROM, I shouldn't be forced to hack the product I paid full price for in order to make it work - purely offline.
It worked fine without a SIM before I restored it to stock. It just didn't connect to Verizon's network.
Apparently the activation will time out after a good long time (how long, I don't know) but you'll be able to skip it once it does timeout. May as well give it a try while you're waiting for other responses.

You have your answer already. You might not like it but that's the only way your going to get results.
Of course there's no sim card, its a Verizon phone....there's only a LTE sim card....if u don't root, there's no way to bypass it

That LTE SIM also allows your phone to connect to CDMA. Go ahead remove the SIM card and try to connect to any service.
This is the same as Japanese carrier AU uses in their CDMA phones. AU does not have LTE though.

There must be a ketpress bypass...
The one for the Galaxy Tab is:
Press Volume Up once
Press Volume Down twice
Press Volume Up three times
Press Volume Down four times
Worth a try, I guess.

Tried earlier didn't work.
3 hours of waiting for activating to time out and I gave up.
Yes I guess I do have my answer... I'll just get my money back.
Of course you can bypass.
When we got our first shipment of phones in I opened it and bypassed the activation. It was a while back but there are just a fews ways to do this on all phones. It is just figuring out what works for which model.
First remove any SIM card, even if its not activated.
I want to say for the nexus the activation just needs to fail out a few times. When you see the please wait while activating just hit the back button. After failing a few times a skip option should appear.
Other ways you can bypass activations
On most Samsung phones type *#82786633 this will enable the soft keys. Then just press home. Only down side is it has to be done on every restart.
On a lot of LG phones press volume up, volume down, back, search.
Note: pull battery before attempting.
On the Galaxy tab line there is a combination of volume up and downs. Very easy to Google. May not work the first few times but eventually it will.
On a lot of Motorola phones the backward C around andy the android works. But on recent models you just have to let the activation fail out a few times like explained above.
I typed this out before falling asleep and I am going off memory. There maybe errors but a quick Google search will give you all you need. Hopefully this will get you started.

[Q] Data usage menu won't open

hi there,
I just bought a brand new Galaxy Nexus and it was working fine - over the last couple of weeks - up to the point when I loaned it out to my brother, now he won't admit to any wrong doings but my precious phone is not functioning properly. My data usage menu in the settings won't open, the settings 'app' - if you can call it that - crashes, none of my social networking apps load and to top it all off; the internet on my phone only works on the Chrome app, it won't work on Opera or the standard browser - just on Chrome.
I've tried to search for if anybody has ever had this issue but couldn't find anything so I joined XDA. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
If you don't know what he did, I suggest factory reset.
already tried that but it didn't work...
So did he load a custom ROM or root and change system files then? Theres nothing normal he could change w/o rooting that wouldn't be wiped out by doing a factory reset.
don't know... he won't admit to anything... sigh younger brothers... sometimes you just want to slap the **** out of them.
is there a fix for this or am I doomed?. sorry but I am not a very tech-savvy person.

Okay well when you start the device (from an off state), at the black splash screen where it says "Google", is there an unlocked padlock at the bottom of the screen? This will indicate that he's unlocked the bootloader and probably messed with something.
Also, what's your "about phone" screen look like?
If he has messed with anything in the system, chances are I'm going to end up recommending you flash the stock images and start over.
UPDATE: got the data usage menu to open but its completely non-responsive once it opens which does take quite some time. found out that my data services are on and yet Facebook/Twitter/Instagram/etc... won't load.
did the whole 'volume+power button' reset and its still not working. Should I just take it back to the dealer?

nopes, it just says Google on the start-up screen.
and my about phone menu looks something like this;
Model Number

Android version

Baseband version

Kernel version
3.0.8-gaaa2611
[email protected] #1

Yeah... so he hasn't rooted or loaded a custom ROM. Not sure how he could have messed up much without doing that. Not sure if anyone else has any ideas. I'm at a loss right now.

I've never not been able to check my data usage no matter my network state. OP's Settings screen is actually crashing when he tries to go to it, among other issues. He's having more problems than just not being able to see Data Usage.

Factory reset stock G3 with blank screen

Hey guys,
I bought a G3 a few months ago and dropped it a week ago. The screen is blank but touch is fine (can use tap unlock and feel the vibrate on menu options).
I'd like to format the device as I will give it for repair. How can I do this (preferably in a way that does not void warranty)?
Thanks!
Try from Google's device manager from the computer browser. You can call, lock and erase from there as long as the Google account used is connected on the phone.

To start up your device, enter your password

I need help, please!
My Note 7 started shutting down on its own. Now whenever I boot the device, it tells me "To start up your device, enter your password."
Problem is, I don't know which password it's referring to.
I don't flash any ROMs or root. Just stock Samsung stuff.

All Samsung phones ask u for a password or pattern when you restart. It is referring to tge one you created at the time of setting up your finger print
Sent from my SM-N930F using Tapatalk
The thing is, I never created a password! I have always left it as swipe to unlock. I use the LED cover case, so it unlocks as soon as I open the case.

Oh great. After trying several passwords, it tells me to restart the device and now it goes into restarts over and over at the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 logo. I don't see the password screen anymore.

Thanks.
My device just went crazy. But it miraculously allowed me to get back into Android as usual. Needless to say, backed up everything. And now it's back to crazy.
Now to decide whether to bring it to Samsung now or wait for the Note 7 exchange.
This issue is somehow related to the boot loop issue that is being experienced by some. And me. One of my Note7 is showing this prompt once in a while when it gets into boot loop. Then when I key in the Android unlock PIN, it says its wrong. What I am doing now if I encounter this prompt is to hard reset (Power + Vol Down buttons) the unit.
i had this issue during set up.. i just swapped out my sim card with my old one and it worked lol. haven't had this happen after set up though. factory reset?
My unit is completely busted. Samsung actually suggested I bring it for the recall exchange instead of repairing it.
So currently, they've loaned me a Galaxy S6 to tide me over.
Now I wonder, even when I get my replacement Note 7, the phone is still susceptible to the boot loop issue, right? This don't seem to be related to the faulty battery at all.
I emergency reinstalled custom ROM through SMART SWITCH, and rooted my phone, added TWRP and installed SuperMan ROM, In the time I did this I never applied a single password/code/pin/fingerprint. Now when I turn on the phone, it comes up with "To start up your device, enter password", I still have gone through and tried every password I could think of and not a single one worked. Now I can't use my phone at all. please help.

Same here, I also am getting the "dm-verity verification failed/need to check drk first" error... My device (SM-N930FD) was neither flashed with custom ROM nor rooted... Suspecting the issue lies in the N930FXXU1BPH6 firmware...

This is a complete brick error. You cannot fix it not even a service centre can. I have spent serious hours trying since about 10 days ago it is not worth the hassle trust me. You'll just have to wait for your replacement
Try "default_password". I tried it on my S7 and it worked!

I'm now encountering the same problem after installing the system upgrade of 60% max charging for my note 7. My phone is instructing me to enter a password but I never installed any password whatsoever from the start. These Note 7s are giving us too much problems and inconvinience!

Go have it exchanged.
I asked Samsung and they said it's a "firmware issue".
Unbelievably, they couldn't recover my data inside. Luckily I made frequent backups in the cloud.
I love the Note 7, but I think this might very well be the last non-removable battery phone I'll ever get.

Restart that phone and when you saw screen with white and yellow text, push volume up button. Then choose fatboot with volume buttons again and when you got it push power on button. After that, phone will show you some text. Completly down you will see Device state. If next to it will be written "unlocked", you're good to go.

Its not easy for anyone but his wife may know some hint about common pin or password her husband used to keep.
Most common pin will be 14789 or 36987 or 123456 or 987654
You have to try and try if you don't want to loose data.
Apparently he also had secure start-up so any hopes are now gone. Bootloader is locked.
