I moved from an HD2 to the Evo this week (no more TMobile, woot!). I am very familiar with custom WMO ROMS, Hard SPL, blah blah...
I have nearly zero Android development, custom ROM knowledge, etc, however.
I'd like to flash a custom ROM based on the factory, without all the Sprint programs preloaded.
Clearly I need to root; I am on steady ground with that knowledge. After that? Not so clear. There doesn't seem to be a thread with the steps I need to proceed.
Any info would be invaluable, thanks!
(PS - side question: why does Android launch all sort of processes in the background seemingly at random?)

This should be in Q & A.. But unless someone creates a rom with the apps removed. Its easier to just do it yourself.
If you did toasts method of rooting. Boot into recovery and type this
adb remount
adb shell
cd /system/app
ls
This displays all apps on the phone. Do this to delete them.
rm NameOfApp.apk
rm NameOfApp.odex
It is caps sensitive and make sure you type the apk exactly as its written.

any reason adb remount isn't working for me? I do adb devices and my devices is there but when i type adb remount i get "remount faild: Invalid argument"
I started Toasts root directions, placing PC36IMG.zip on the base directory of the SD card. Shut down, loaded with the Vol Down and Power buttons. The bootloader checked the file on the SD card but then stopped on the white screen.
It seems it was supposed to proceed automatically? But I am dropped off with options on the white screen: FASTBOOT, RECOVERY, CLEAR STORAGE, SIMLOCK, and HBOOT USB.
Directions show Vol Up and Down for previous and next and Power for select.
Alright, I resolved this issue. I recopied the file to the SD card and made sure to eject drive before shutting the device down. Seemed to make all the difference! Proceeding with the remainder of Toast's directions now...

i fixed it. you have to do this.
adb shell
mount /dev/block/mtdblock4 /system
cd /system/app
ls
Getting error trying to remove nascar..
Code:
rm Sprint_NASCAR.apk
rm failed for Sprint_NASCAR.apk, Directory not empty
Any ideas?
That's Linux trying to protect you. Essentially the rm command by default just removes one file at a time.
Try...
rm -r NameOfFolder
...to delete recursively.

Go see the thread in the apps sub-forum about this. I have a post (#28, I believe) with the exact code to remove the bloatware. You can just copy any paste.

you shouldn't have a problem deleting the apk, because an apk is not a directory.
i deleted it without the same message.

By the way, when I "cd /system/app" and then "ls" I see only NamesOfApps.apk. There are displayed no *.odex files. Is that normal?
thread dead?
IDK if this threads still monitored by anyone, but here's my question: I don't use adb, but I just rused root explorer to locate sprint crap, and added a .bak to the end of all of them to essentially 'disable' them. Is this a safe method? Will Android system waste energy looking for them anymore (they no longer show in app tray, but are they still using resources) ? Thanks much.

I was just about to say something similar. I had uninstalled Nascar using Titanium Backup, and the found out that I cant do the 2.2 OTA unless its there. TB didn't have the ability to restore it for some reason, so I got an APK from XDA, and put it in the system/app folder via Root Explorer. Then, I had to reset the permissions to match the other APK's, and it showed up and launched perfectly. Even did an update. Much easier than all that adb stuff, I think.
I used system app uninstaller for a buck on the market.. Easy and all there with the icons for easy to find and delete sprint and gapps.

Thats a good way.. If something goes wrong just have to rename.

Flash this zip and it should remove most of the Sprint apps. It will back them up to /sdx on your SD card so if anything is removed that you want, it will still be there. It's signed to work with RA.
http://grathwohl.me/uploads/android/evo/Sprint-Apps-Remover-signed.zip
I've seen a few people reference my post, but my post was really just trying to ask if anyone knew if, now that I've renamed them, and they don't run, they shouldn't be using up resources? Right, is that correct, or am I wrong in thinkin this?
And thanks cosine83, that's a really helpful post for a lot of people.
I found my old GS3 which I had a lock screen but I can't remember the pattern I used. I tried doing the forget my password option but it's not recognizing that either. I there a way to unlock the phone without knowing the pattern?
Does it have a custom recovery? If not, flash one using Odin and then boot into recovery (power off then do VolUp+Power+Home) and run the following
Code:
adb shell rm /data/system/gesture.key
Source: Forgot my password once and had to figure this out :sly:
Is there a similar way to defeat a PIN on the lockscreen?

Hi all,
I'm trying to use adb to get past the to many patterns screen, bet keep getting stuck following the posts I have seen. It all starts well with the commands but then I cant go any further. I can enter the first 2,
adb shell
cd /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases
Then when I enter "sqlite3 settings.db" it comes up "sqlite3: permission denied"
if I go via the commands "adb shell rm /data/system/gesture.key" it comes up with "adb: permission denied"
Does anyone have any ideas of how I can get round this or another way I might be able clear this too many pattern attemps?

Firstly I assume that this is your phone your working on, or a phone you have permission to work on. The law requires this.
You need root access. Gaining root access while being locked out will be tough. Depending on your hboot version (needs to be 1.01.001) you could run revolutionary to gain s-off, the root using a superuser flashable zip file. But if you dont care about data then just factory reset the phone and your in.

Hi,
my OnePlus 3 got crushed. Felt down while driving motorbike and then at least 3 cars did drive over it. Display splintered in thousands of pieces and digitizer is dead. Home button with fingerprint also seems to not work.
By miracle the phone itself still works. . How I can enter the phone? I tried to boot into recover and browser with ADB but I dont know where my files are.
BTW USB Debugging was not activated, not rooted and Pattern lock is activated. The phone also asks for pattern lock on boot (I am worried that this means that my files are encrypted)
What else I can do?

send it back and pay money for repair or you can buy yourself a new display + digitizer
for the glass oneplus take ~100 dollar. someone in this forum had the same problem.
you can ask the support first
Without debugging and with encryption you really can't do much ...

I just want to have my data back.. I dont really want to fix it. The mobile phone is slightly bended and has tons of scratches on the backside and a big bump. If you see the phone you will be surprised that it is still working As far as I understand is the data lost if I send the phone back.
Isnt it possible to connect just another cheap display on the phone to just for passing the lock. So I can enable debugging.

try look into "/storage" or "/data", or any other directories, use "adb pull" to copy everything you can to your computer.
Internal storage is at /storage/emulated/0

Not with my phone
Hey, sorry for the late reply, i've been sick the last day.
First of all a stupid question
Have you seen that all your data is there under /storage/sdcard0? or is it an empty folder
try specifying the output directory of adb pull like
Code:
adb pull /storage/sdcard0 /home/username/
I'm thinking maybe it's a linux related problem, since linux doesnt always automatically create folder structures. So if your error message changes keep me posted.
Also:
my data is directly under /sdcard
so if i
Code:
adb pull /sdcard
I get
Code:
pull: building file list...
pull: /sdcard/ViPER4Android/DDC/Custom_jmxc23.vdc -> ./ViPER4Android/DDC/Custom_jmxc23.vdc
and Last but not least
maybe the sdcard isn't mounted correctly...
try
Code:
mount -a
in adb shell and leaye the shell open, then open a new one and try pulling the stuff from it.
I'm also new to XDA so until now i only had to solve my own problems but maybe it helps just give it a try
I'm also not shure if your pattern lock has encrypting your data (/sdcard).
but there is also a solution for removing lockscreen patterns via adb shell.
Good Luck,
Alex
Hello people, I come to ask for help that I need urgently. Well at the beginning of the year install pixel experiencie and I did not backup the efs folder, when I returned to stock I lost it and from there every day I searched for solutions and I am still looking for some. If anyone knows any effective method or not, you can help me. Thanks greetings

There's a possible fix until the moment you flash persist or restore EFS from another phone to yours.
ONCE AGAIN, DON'T TRY TO FLASH PERSIST OR RESTORE EFS FROM ANOTHER PHONE!!!
Just root your phone using Magisk and execute these commands using adb on your PC/laptop:
Things to note before you start executing commands below:
1. Make sure that USB debugging in your phone is turned on.
2. If everything is set properly and "adb devices" has been executed, u should see popup window about ADB allow on your phone BUT ONLY IN CASE YOU ARE USING ADB ON PC WHICH WASN'T USED FOR ADB YET. Make sure "Always allow from this PC" is checked and click "OK". Re-run command one more time. You should be able to see your device in cmd window now.
3. After "su" command, you have to grant root access to adb shell within 10 seconds.
4. "adb reboot" command will immediately reboot your phone, don't panic.
5. You are doing this at your own risk.
Code:
adb devices
adb shell
su
chown -R rfs:rfs /persist/rfs
chown -R rfs:rfs_shared /persist/hlos_rfs
adb reboot
Commands have been used from this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/g5-plus/how-to/fix-persist-resolve-imei0-explanation-t3825147
Good morning!
Look I was able to recover the signal (h +) with that command but not imei. Will not you know other commands that will make him recover or some method? regards
