I've had my 5x for about a week. Coming from an iPhone 6s plus there's definitely a learning curve. To get through the day I need to limit my use as opposed to the iPhone which could last day. Go for a 6p if battery is a worry for you.
from what device will you come from? to me, its a little bit on the 'weak' side but rapid charging definitely helps and i also carry a powerbank with me 100% of the time.

hmm, judging by the specs, going to 5x wont be the 'upgrade' you would be expecting except for the android version if you can, i suggest that you just wait on the next nexus devices which is very near

But the price isn't equal
What phone do u suggest in this budget?
Do not get it. See my thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-5x/help/battery-drain-fresh-reinstall-7-0-idle-t3451094
It drains like crazy for just laying around without being touched and with no apps to sync or do something except for whatsup. It was much better on 6.0.1 but you want 7.0, isn't it? Now, I'm planning to downgrade it to 6.0.1 because 7.0 is a joke for battery. I think new nexus 5 and 6 which will be 7.0 out of the box could be ok, 5x is like a beta test platform for them. 6p is twice the money, so this rules it out.

We all know that android L will probably be pre installed on the nexus 6 so would you wait for the n6 or get the g3
What Nexus 6? I thought Google scrapped that project and are looking to have a Google Silver phone in the works.

Plus, you can't compare to a phone thats out now, to a future phone that hasn't even been announced yet. Its only the OS thats been announced and there using it on a ref device.only.

Burke could be referring to the HTC tablet. I'm not hold my breath for a Nexus 6, and since I'm on Verizon anyway...
Based on what? How can we give a proper answer to that when we know little to nothing about the nexus 6??

Nexus devices are normally released near the end of the year.
How can you compare a phone that is barely even out now to one that has not even been announced yet?
One known is no micro sd on Nexus. Google wants you to love the cloud. REAL hard!

Wait G4
Just wait next year you can buy the G4 or the next next Nexus.
If I were you I'd wait for the LG G19 or the Nexus 28, they will be a lot better than the G3.
u guys talk like if the n6 is coming out in 5 years..i sense a lot of trolls
Why wait for the Nexus 6? Just wait for the G4. But you can wait for the Nexus 7, wait wot.

It's possible G3 may have Play version like S4 and M7.

Hi F4M0U569. Quite a really good question - I still evaluate pros and cons. My G3 should be delivered today but I see the Nexus 6 at the end of the year.
I don't think the Nexus 6 smartphone would be a younger and slightly adjusted G3, as much others do right now. I believe, Google won't bring a smartphone reference platform - this is what the Nexus devices are - with an "old" 32 bit Snapdragon 801 when the new Android system was released with the advantage of a 64 bit system.
But if you need a new device for whatever reason (old one is defect/too slow, you're just so delighted/happy and freaking out because of this new device - like me), than just buy it. If you can wait, wait until you need a new device. Don't wait for the next big step. As soon as you have the new device, it's ready to go to the museum soon.

not gonna happen
I can only give my opinion from the Nexus 5 situation that I had.
Prior to buying a nexus 5 I had a Galaxy S4 then after switching to the Nexus 5 although a great phone I realised that it is simply a trimmed down version of the G2 with different button placement.
I the case of the G3 I think what you have already is maybe an idea of what the next Nexus may be. I know LG are developing it but specs wise I cannot see the Nexus 6 beating the G3 by much or if at all.
The only real decider is the software with the Nexus being a pure android device. But as we are on XDA I think we all understand the power of the devs and community. There will be ROMs for the G3 that will be able to provide the same experience soon enough.
My thoughts anyway
Nexus = mid range phones
The only advantage I see with nexus phones are the fast updates, so if updates are not super important for you go for the G3

The recent Nexus devices are indeed mid range phones/tablets when you think about the prize. The hardware can compete with other flagship devices at the time they're released to the market.

Normally where nexus phones fall behind is screen, battery life and camera & those aspects are very important when choosing a new phone
Good evening.
I was wondering if I should get the Nexus 7 (2013) or wait for the next Google Tablet may it be a nexus or silver or L or whatever it is called.
As I understood instead of ASUS google chose HTC for its next device.
The thing is, I was curious and wanted to wait for it..
But - I found the nexus 7 (2013) 16GB for 195$.
Any suggestions ?
btw, I read some mixed review - does it have an external SD option or not ?
thanks in advance.
Definitely buy the current tablet its great and it will get the L update soon. 1.5 GHz doesn't seem like a lot compared to others but trust me, great tablet easy to root. Tons of support and big community. Buy the current nexus 7.

Thanks mate ... seriously considering it ...
Question though... Can you swap its battery or put in an SD card ?
Since its not water proof I assume you could, but I can't seem to find anything to support that...
some sites say it has SD and in some others when I look at the specs. it doesn't mention the SD option...
I guess NEXUS 7 (2013) only have 1 version right ? (I live in Japan so we tend to get "special" versions)

No on both questions. There are two versions of the Nexus 7 (2013): WiFi only and LTE. Although, I don't know what availability the LTE version is outside the US.

Got it
Thanks...
Have a nice day.
You would want 32gb if storage is an issue, I got mine 3 months back and its worth it but I'm wondering if lte is better since I could just use it as a phone instead. Having phone and tablet is a luxury to me especially with 4+ inch screens.
I use a server at home for data storage.
The tablet is thin and it fits in my pockets comfortably.
Its not too late, the screen is superior than average and the performance is quick
After returning my Nexus 7 twice to Asus and finally getting a good working unit, I've found that my Note 3 kills this tablet. Washed out colors, slower performance, and gets hot quick. Nexus 7 is a good device for you first time tablet owners and those that don't have a larger smartphone. Good luck if you decide to buy, there will always be good dev support for this device.
You should buy it if you really need it. I guess 195$ for Wifi only, right?
I own one, it is good device and lot of support. But I have an Android phone and a big laptop, so that sometime I only use my n7 for chatting when I work.
7inch is good. But if I were you, I would wait the new 8inch
They have certified refurbished off of Ebay right now for only $159 which is what I picked up for a 32gb Wifi. Figured its cheap enough that even if I only use it for a bit it should be worth it and will be a big replacement for my Asus T700
It is a fantastic device. I am in love with mine even after owning a Galaxy Tab S. Definitely a good buy at that price. I would always buy new... Never returned but that is personal preference.
I got the LTE and my daughters have the WiFi 2012. Both great and I do a lot of gaming in multiplayer. But the new nexus looks like it has been really improved and word is end of summer it may come out. If it were me I'd probably wait unless I really needed one right away.
So I don't want to make about what's wrong my htc 10 or why i don't like it... that said.
I owned a nexus 6p which i loved, i traded it for a HTC 10 because of size. fast forward until now, 7 months later. I really miss my nexus 6p, I had a the battery life, AMOLED display and camera. What do you guys recommend for another phone?

I just sold an S8 and picked up a 10 and also love it for the size. If your wanting bigger I'd go with the 5T or possible the V30+ as is has a OLED display vs the P-OLED of the standard V30 and the Pixel XL. LG hasn't put it on their bootloader unlock list if that's important to you. Really the smart money is the 5T.

Oh wow, you're right about the LG V30! I thought they did but I guess not wow ..... and I was really thinking about getting it since it's on sale :'( I was considering the 5T but I noticed the phone was a lot bigger than the v30. hmmmm...
I traded the nexus 6p eventually because the size and saw the v30 was a bit smaller then the 6p. Does the oneplus 5t work with VoLTE and tmobile? anyone else have any suggestions. thanks.
Looking at the 855+ it looks like it's just an OC'd version of the same processor.
Would u right to assume it's going to be able to accommodate the OnePlus 7 pro ROM's?
Perhaps the cameras may differ, if read that the rear are identical, not sure on the front. The mechanism is certainly missing.
Shouldn't affect functionality of the ROM though.
Excellent device it would seem, for as device that mimics another which is 100+ more in price and still for sale.
Good times if you're in the market.
I just might invest.
Anyone else ordered it?
After being a Nexus/Pixel loyalist since the Nexus 4, I think it's finally time to switch to OnePlus. Probably going to get the 7T. I'm pretty sure the 7T will get the same treatment as the 7 Pro's ROMs.

Hi all.
I'm thinking of getting a 9 pro and was wondering, would you buy it again if you had your current experience to help make your decision? I've found a few around $650, used. I'm not worried about insane camera quality. A good screen, solid performance, fast charging and being able to root and ROM it are what is drawing me in. I loved the 7 Pro I had but I've seen some say they don't think anything later has lived up to that and the quality has degraded. It nearly pushed me back to a 7 pro but I take it with a grain of salt, figured I'd ask here and see from some current users.
As for ROM's, /e/ apparently works. And Lineage. Does the color OS merge cause any new privacy concerns? I don't know a lot of how it has progressed, to be honest. I'm planning to ROM and de-google as much as I can.
Anyone who's used a PIxel 5a, might it be a better solution, cheaper?
Thanks for your input!
Honestly if I could go back, I wouldve bought a Galaxy s21 ultra. Android 12 is still so buggy for me and I'm not keen on OnePlus merging with oppo. I love OOS.
Maybe,. It still has been solid, like screen is beautiful, w/ refresh rate. It has the thirty minute 0-100 charge and forty minute wireless charge. It sounds good and looks good so maybe so.
One thing is the fast charging is 65 watts; which I liked the 35 watt on the 8 pro.
One of the drawbacks was the US unlocked version came with one sim slot, instead of two, like it should of been.
Also when the few updates were good , unlocked version usually only received the incremental version on Google server; but the last one, I just flashed in TWRP (which has been a beauty).
So all in all still a solid device with the microg and Gapps option.
If the Samsung can be unlocked, etc, and looking like it will be supported then maybe that might be the way. I've been looking at them the last few years and I really like that foldable phone that opens to a tablet.
The last one I personally owned was the S3 and that was the days. I remember it coming out and being like, "WOW". That was the CyanogenMod era for me on that S3.
Anyway I hope it works out in what you decide. One thing I think by the way is "how easy is it to recover, and which method? How easy to brick, etc?
Take care, and I hope this post is not too much, but I can relate (like I'm sure most of us here on XDA can), and thought I'd add my thoughts.

Yes. I would buy 9 Pro.
One of the best screen on the market. Hardware, same. Charging on Oneplus is awesome. When i buy my phone battery was 0. I charged with my phone Off in 27 minutes, 0-100 %. Than i buy wireless 50w, crazy fast too. I put my phone on the stand . Then i must have my eyes on the watch. It goes to 100% in no time, if i let it.
About ColorOS... Many people forget that Oppo Fiind 7 came out at the same time with OnePlus One (almost same phone). Oppo works on is own processor. Oppo made a foldable already.
Color OS works fine (on my European model phone). I'm glad that we don't have that Stupid cartoon that i see on Pixel 6 phones. Looks llike is made by a 3 years old kid.
Oxygen OS was Awesome, but unfortunately google f*cked up this great OS.
Camera on Oneplus 9 pro is good. I like xPan mode, especially.

exactly how I feel too.
Yes I would, I'd make sure I know the origin of the phone, I.e. Eu, USA TMobile, India, China. I would then find out which rom it has flashed. Then use these to compare which country you're using it in, to make sure there's no surprise. Also I'd stick with a11 or a12 on a rom you like. My spec's are in the screenshot and I'm in the UK.
I would buy the 9 Pro again, but I'm going to try the 10 Pro when Global model available!
Cheers
I would probably buy unlocked, but I would buy again. I would also have done a little more looking so I didn't end up with my phone stuck on India firmware now.
Thanks everyone, I appreciate the feedback. Still undecided for now.
Another question; would you go to/back to a 7t Pro McLaren? Looks like it's about a $250 difference. I loved my 7 Pro and I'm willing to do a battery change. Or is the 9 Pro just so ahead that it's worth it to you?
Oh, and for those who wouldn't buy a 9 pro, would you mind to elaborate a little more? I'm down to these two and am trying to decide which makes more sense if I'm going to ROM it anyway.
Thanks again everyone!
650 usd for a op 9 pro? I'll take it. IMO no phones are better in this price range. It's not the best phone but it is expected that it will perform the same if not better with those $1000+ flagship phones.

Alright, I'll try and wait for the Ultra
I've owned my 9 Pro for about 4 months now. I have very mixed feelings about it.
For me, the pluses:
Unlockable bootloader with good third-party ROM support.
Nice screen, decent camera.
Wireless charging
The minuses:
Buggy factory ROM's. The switchover to Android 12 and a ColorOS-based build was a disaster. ColorOS is just not in the same league as OxygenOS as far as polish or capabilities. It lost most of the nice touches that made OxygenOS good. And the new team is doing a mediocre job of staying on top of security patches. It is now the end of February, and my phone is still at January 1, 2022 security patch level.
No SD-card slot.
I think I'd still pick the OnePlus over a Google phone. Google has had extensive hardware issues, and their customer service is supremely awful.
And I'd pick it over Samsung. Samsung is actively hostile toward unlocked bootloaders and custom ROM's. They also have a lengthy history of battery problems - the Galaxy Note 8 was not an aberration, merely the most severe.
Motorola/Lenovo makes decent hardware, but are completely falling down on updates. My wife's One Action is only 15 months old, and is still running Android 10 at a Nov 1, 2021 patch level. Supposedly the premise of the whole "Android One" program was that it would make it easier for the OEM's to issue timely updates and upgrades. Doesn't seem to be working.
To sum it up: The OnePlus is not great, but in the US market, it's still slightly better than the alternatives.
I bought a 256gb/12gb in mint condition for $550 USD that should be here tomorrow. I almost gave up on the idea but then saw the price and figured I'd give it a shot.
I looked forward to trying it out! Now to decide which ROM. LOS, Derp, Nameless or Stag. It's a fun problem I've missed having.
Thanks for all of the input, it helped a lot actually.
Yes. definitely. I just sold 8T model and bought 9 Pro for a good price. I will stick with Android 11 as long as I can, because IMHO A12 is childish and awful looking (especially these big fonts).

yes, i bought the same way, for similar price, it's worth it. you save money and there are no performance differences or use signs.
just make sure the seller is reputable and you will be fine, for me warranties failed me more than resellers. pro phones usually cost too much and aren't worth the cash unless you find sucha discount from resellers, which phones are rarely used and justa s good as factory. i always choose a physical seller so if there was an issue, have them located, AliExpress is not trustworthy.
about the phone, its very good. the main problem is the default ROM which isnt good at all. on the ohter hand, its easier to flash a custom ROM on OnePlus than almost any brand out there, and this will fix all your bugs, double battery time, half internet data consumption, refresh rate and overall performance. totally recommended
EDIT: i see you bought it for just 550$, which is even better. at that price is definitely even more worth it.
