im sorry but this thread is not going anywhere, just nandroid bkup and flash with a checklist of things that ur looking for

I happened to use both of them. I used them both with their respective stock kernels, and running the kppd script to get kcal support on stock rom. Anyways, in short N&N 7.1 is the best ROM that I have had on my G3. Fulmics was not as smooth, buggy at times causing random reboots, and most importantly it gave me just 2.5 hrs of SoT. I had Greenify and Amplify installed on both ROMs. Both ROMs heat the device up to some degree but Fulmics temperature was definitely higher doing similar tasks, especially while capturing videos. So, in light of this I have switched to the N&N rom. Its is buttery smooth. The memory management is very good and the battery life is 3.5 hrs of SoT now, though sometimes it can be as low as 3 hrs. The only drawback I have noticed is that it doesn't have the Roboto font in its choice of fonts. Using 3rd party software to change fonts only changes parts of the ROMs fonts...for e.g. in Viber, the font in the message typing box is the one that the 3rd party font changer set up....but the messages themselves are in the system font. Other than that minor issue, N&N is the way to go. I must admit that I have used several version of Fulmics in the past but haven't tested the latest 6.0-6.1 version since I am very satisfied with N&N rom. Hope that helps.
On a side note, Limitless was similar to Fulmics with respect to fluidity and battery life. But, it had a serious issue wherein opening more than 2 or 3 apps or opening more than 2 tabs in browsers caused a huge lag and caused the phone to freeze up and reboot sometimes. If it were upto me I wouldn't recommend that ROM to anyone due to this issue.
So basically my order of preference of Custom ROMs based on Stock are N&N > Fulmics> Limitless

thanks for sharing knowledge

thanks for sharing your experience , I tried almost all G3 D855 roms available ,with all its versions but I didn't try [email protected]
the only 2 I had recommended to others was Fulmics 5 an Resurrection Remix 5.7.3
I need Fulmics for (smart screen "keep screen on while detecting face" - Quick remote -knock code "while screen off" )
and I need RR for (long battery life - privacy "restrict data for both mobile data and wifi as well" - themes - and BEST OF ALL Recent apps tweak " hiding apps from recent panel " that I never found such option in any rom.
I dream of having a rom with all these features

stable aosp rom?

hi all.
tried a few aosp roms. all great. just some annoying random reboots. im not a heavy customizer. i just like the feel of vanilla android. and also i like smaller dpi settings. currently running ptmr3's jedi rom. excellent rom, havent experienced any reboots. though its a nice rom, i like aosp roms. any out there without random reboots?
also with the kitkat update our note3 is getting, will future roms be more random reboots less or none at all? im suppose to meet someone this coming wednesday to trade my note3 for his nexus5. or should i wait til new roms are cooked up based on the kitkat update for better aosp roms?
also trying to figure out how to remove this damn widget on lockscreen. cant seem to get rid of it.
thanks all

I've been on the unified Note3 CM11 builds and have been enjoying them quite a bit. The only reboots (and lockups) I got were from tweaking my CPU settings...apparently the only parameter that was pissing my phone off was the conservative governor. Also clk_min won't stay at the floor...but aside from slightly compromised battery life CM11 has been near perfect. I'll take the very slight battery life reduction for AOSP...also, the ART runtime is wayyyyyy better than Dalvik. Worth it for that alone. I just enabled that "for good" today but I already expect enough battery life savings to make up the difference (which was admittedly small).
Performance is top notch (even when underclocked to 960mHz), the ART runtime seems to make scrolling, chrome, maps and all around navigation snappy as hell...and I don't have to deal with TWiz. To each their own, touchwiz ain't for me. All the important stuff appears to work (LTE, WiFi, Bluetooth, camera, 1080p video recording...I can't even remember the things I used to worry about...everything works fine, even the 'settings bug' is resolved now...)
YMMV, of course.

Thanks. I will try it out after i play around with gummy. Yah im not a fan of touchwiz either. How do i enable ART? i have never tinkered with that. Also regarding cpu tweaking. I dont really bother with that and i still get reboots and lock ups. Most times i just leave the kernel that came with the rom alone and not change it.
im a flashoholic. & i truley hate touchwiz roms. but ive been a week on AOSB v1.30 (longest ive ever stayed on one rom lol) its smooth & zippy, it has some amazing battery life. also vanir isnt a bad rom.
also switching runtimes is available in developer options under "apps"

thanks. i only had my tmo note3 for about two weeks now. the AOSB v1.30 is not on the TMOBILE NOTE 3 development threads (i did find it). are we allowed to use those roms for our tmo note3? is there anything special i need to do to install roms from there?

The AOSB rom is a universal. Just flash rom + gApps & you're set to go!

WOW. i think i just found me a stable rom to use. installed and been running this rom for more than an hour now with all my usual tweaks and apps installed. and so far no reboots. usually on other aosp rom, i would have had a few reboots already. this is awesooooome. well besides the fact that app settings (xposed) doesnt seem to work since temasek integrated his own lcd density changer on the settings menu. also he just announced yesterday that he is putting his development on hold (temporarily, hopefully). damn!
temasek's UNOFFICIAL CM11 BUILD
so far loving it. will update if any issues occur

temesek is very nice work, glad to hear you found a rom!

does installing CM 11 degrades camera performance

i'm currently using the stock jelly bean 4.3 build and i'm not satisfied with it due to poor battery .i need a custom ROM that drastically improves the battery providing a full day of usage with 3g mobile data always on . i hear that installing custom ROM will degrade camera performance since the image processing algorithms get lost ,it it true ? is there any custom ROM that provides best battery life ,good call quality ,decent loud speaker(atleast similar to the stock one) and the same camera performance offered by the stock ROM
That would be great if custom rom had all you need,
But reality is that it doesn't at the moment
Yes camera quality on custom ROM is not as good as stock MIUI, also same with speakers
But you can improve battery life, heating issues, etc with proper selection of custom ROM and KERNEL
STOCK MIUI:-
1)Better Camera
2)LOUD speaker o/p
CUSTOM ROMS+KERNEL:-
1)Better battery
2)Better RAM manegment+Multitasking
3)Less heating
4)Updated Android Experience
BANG that THANKS button
at the end i ended up with the stock ROM jelly bean 4.3 since camera is very important for me . to prevent the overheating and battery issues i rooted the phone and underclocked the cpu to 1.2ghz with minimum frequency as 384mhz. may be this will help the phone to get the best of both worlds
Anyways there is a win
BTW the camera on custom ROM is not trash, its good.Stock camera has some edge over it that's it.
Anyways u should give a try to custom ROM sometime later(For me lollipop is much better than Jellybean) give a try,you can always revert back to stock if not satisfied.Your wish, use the one which gives more satisfaction
BANG that THANKS button
is the cm11 4.4.4 ROM in stable state ? i mean the most less bugs because this phone is my daily driver and i dont need it to fail on any occasions
Yes its stable I used it few months ago,CM12.1 that I'm currently using is also stable
BANG that THANKS button
the word i mean stable is no bugs . i know that still lollipop is under development . my xperia l is getting official cm 12 and there are bugs with it . that's why i'm asking whether the cm11 is super stable with no bugs

Unofficial cm11 r26 is the last update for kitkat from the armani group and is considered to be quite stable. I think battery life should be at least ok if not good. CM12.1 r4 has poor battery life at the moment. Miui v50 is supposed to give reasonably good battery life so try it if you haven't yet.
You can install the miui camera on cm11 or 12.1 but you don't have the option to save to sdcard or the HDR options but it works. I don't think the processing algorithms are any different since its the same program.
Yes, Camera in CM11 and CM12 is not as good as Stock. Especially video recording blinks when trying to focus which is a dealbreaker for some.
Well,If we consider that stock camera is 10/10 , CM11 would be 8/10.The same goes for speakers.I don't understand why the music, from youtube or music player is not that loud, and when the phone rings,it's like he ate a powerfull speaker
I used cm11 for a long long time and now I kinda regret that I updated to miui v6.The good thing about cm11 is that you decide what to keep, what to delete, battery is good, ram management is great, phone doesn't heat like crazy.
In the end , we don't have a custom rom or a stock rom which has it all.I remember I was very happy on miui v5 with some thermal config and root acces.thinking to revert back to that,I remember i switched because i got bored.

I did a few test camera shots and found that the CM11 camera performs quite similarly to the miui camera. I was hard pressed to tell the difference btwn both apps except through from pixel peeping. Is there a scenario like HDR where the miui camera performs significantly better (8 vs 10) as you say?
Miui v5 has that 1gb zram thing which puts some lag, fast overheating due to 1.6Ghz max clock and has that sms bug which I didn't like. I could reduce the clockspeed after rooting but I still the 2 other issues and miui is too bloated for 1Gb ram.

First things first, the HDR doesn't even work in CM11.
Then, the ram management is decent, all you have to do is to strip down the rom a little(remove all bloatware, the security thing, don't use sync and don't let all your apps notify you,use notifications just for what you need.Greenify is also a good option after you did all those things. In MIUI V6,when you use the phone a little, like browsing for couple of minutes,or use camera,or facebook and so on,when you click on home button,an message appears " Just a sec " and after 2-3 seconds the launcher appears. Also, multitasking is bad in MIUI v6.I mean you open facebook for example, you click on a link and gets you in browser and then when you come back to facebook it doesn't starts from where you left it,it loads again. In miui v5 at least I could open 3-4 apps and use multitasking properly.
About sms bug,I have no clue what you're saying.
The heating isn't an issue,of course if it's not underclocking the cpu too much and the phone lags.Just flash a better thermal config from xda and there'll be no issues.
In conclusion, this phone will always lack something. It's cheap and that says it all. However, the building quality is great,I've dropped it couple of times, few times even without case and I couldn't see a scratch. The camera is amazing, including the video one.The performance, well,it comes at a cost.Either you reduce performance and keep the cpu cold,or you choose to play great games, but the phone will heat up.Honestly,I used an samsung galaxy s5,not mine, but played with it a little, and it heats up pretty bad too.So...enjoy your redmi 1s.
^pretty much sums it.
Could you please guide me towards a thermal config for stock ? Will i need to flash a kernel or a governor?
Thanks

If the only difference btwn the miui vs cynogen/google camera quality (8 vs 10) is HDR, then custom rom users aren't doing so bad.
The SMS bug affects numbers where the country code ends in a "0" and some sms's cannot be replied from the messaging app depending on how a phone number is stored in the contacts list (whether it contains the country code or not). Its a big problem and the bug report is still open. According to Xiaomi theres no easy fix.
Having the max cpu clock set to 1.6Ghz means the phone heats up far more quickly. And manufacturers whose phones use the same cpu only clock it to 1.4Ghz. Thats why CM's default speed is set to 1.4Ghz as well.
Enjoy your redmi 1s too.

Anyone here still using CM11?

Just got a bit tired of little bugs in the CM13 based roms and thinking about switching back to CM11. The only concern is the lack of security updates after the maintainers abandoned the projects for newer android versions.
Did anyone here try downgrading? Or maybe never upgraded? Is it wise to do so?
Some of my issues with CM13 based roms which have put me off:
Insane lag when reciving calls
Adopting Storage doesn't work half the time
Front Camera crashes
Mobile Data issues
Lock Screen Wallpaper Issue
Music suspend bug
Battery drain Issue
LOL brother. I am still using CM 11 build 14/11/15 with Xcelerate kernel build 4/12/15.
I still used this OS as it gives me atleast 500+mb ram which I require a lot for gaming.
At battery 100%............(with airplane mode on)...wifi on After 3hrs of continuous wifi gaming my battery drops to around 20%.
So I guess battery life is good.......though i haven't activated any sim cards(that would be a different story)
I don't have any voice(call) related problem though. Only bug is HDR. Once a picture is clicked with HDR on, you have to exit camera to click again in HDR mode
I actually need a CM 13 rom which provide such performance.(I was thinking about Slim rom 0.4 by Aniket Lamba)
So if anyone can suggest me better rom then please let me know. For me stability & usability matters more than recent builds.
I always will appreciate any information whether good or bad
I used to like KK as it was last in the line of the Holo interface and it was the only 4.x available for our phone, so I used it for fairly long and didn't switch to LP until MM came around. Along with Xcelerate it was really good: decent battery life, smooth experience and fast charging. But now that I've grown to like the Material interface as well, I've been using MM more often these few months, especially Slim6, which I feel gives the same feel I used to get on KK: stability and smoothness.
KK is still one of my more favourite ROMs, but given that KK is mostly dead by now and there are more developments and features in LP and MM, I think I'll just stick to Slim6.

1) I don't get this
2) I don't use Adoptive Storage, heard it screws with WiFi
3) I don't get this (it has been fixed recently)
4) Depends on ROM
5) GravityBox (for AOSP MM), or this guide (which also works on CM13)
6) Disable MPDecision. Strangely when I downgraded to CM11 I was still getting the bug.
7) Depends on ROM
The issues I had with CM11 were generally the use of Apollo and the HDR issue as stated in the post before mine. And the music bug after downgrading. Apart from those I was happy with it, and I wouldn't mind a single bit to change back to it. I just don't understand the hate regarding KK, especially in the MIUI 8 thread...

Hate towards KK is only because most of the apps are working great in >LP than in KK. If MIUI with LP is given then it can be easily a great choice for armani. MIUI ram issues have sorted out but only thing is standby time(wifi on) is low.

The music bug persisting after the downgrade is what's keeping me back. I, too, don't use Adoptive storage for all the bugs it brings - even on AOSP. But this means I'm running out of space by the end of the month because of necessary evils like WhatsCrap.
The gravitybox mod is good to know, although I don't use xposed, but really is simply a hassle to effectively change your wallpaper - especially when I'm changing them every other week.
I've recently tried disabling MPDecision - the music seems to be playing fine but I can't help but notice sightly degraded performance all around.

Adoptive Storage is a hassle to set up: you need to format your SD card (which meant I had to shift everything out before converting it), and TWRP has no way to read such encrypted storage, so I didn't use it after the first time I tried it. Also you could do with regular housekeeping of your phone's storage; usually I keep WhatsApp images for a year before deleting them (after keeping the important ones and archiving the rest).

Xposed is very helpful, but if you don't want to use it then I won't force you.
Generally in those CM12/13 ROMs if I wanted to switch between lockscreen wallpapers I would leave a couple of those wallpapers in the /data/system/users/0 folder, just renamed to let me know which file is which wallpaper. Whenever I wanted to change them I just renamed them to the proper filename.

You don't have to leave MPDecision off the whole time: just disable it when listening to music, and re-enable it afterward.
Thank you everyone for your valuable comments:good:. It seems I can finally move on to CM 13:fingers-crossed:.(mostly slim6 version)
Note: I don't have music stop bug in CM11 though( may be related to firmware version or kernel. don't know why different people have different bugs:silly

What I think is that the KK firmware/modem we all flashed for CM13 builds has something to do with the music suspend bug. This is probably the reason why downgrading back to CM11/12.1 doesn't seem to fix this issue.
Anyway, seems like I'll just stick with CM13 for now.

Well not really, as the same v7.0.5.0 is used for CM11, 12 and early 13 builds. It's most likely a kernel issue, given that disabling MPDecision fixes it somewhat.

Z2 Plus overall usability review with custom roms and bugs, battery life, heating etc

Hi Z2 plus users.
After lot of analysis and research, I finally ordered Lenovo Z2 plus today. Got a great deal.
8k INR / approx 125 USD
I have the option of getting Redmi Note 4 as well at approx 150 USD / 10k
I have gone through lot of videos on youtube with different custom rom reviews of Z2 plus, pros, cons etc.
My main concerns are:
- Battery Life
- Heating issue
- Overall usability without digging into custom rom installations and updates very frequently. I will install custom rom but would like to use it as daily driver for few months at least before I look for new updates etc. (Time is the issue - Don't get much of it these days to do all the research and experiments )
With custom roms like AICP, Jaguar - how is the battery life in terms of SOT?
How is the heating issue with custom roms which this phone is infamous for?
I saw a review from Indian tech reviewer on youtube suggesting Jaguar R14 is very stable and good rom for this. But I see some complains and users posting different issues in Jaguar rom thread.
Kindly suggest, if it will be good to go for this phone now (after 1.5 yrs of it's launch)?
Can I expect to use it as daily driver without any significant issues for next 2-3 years with custom roms?
At present which custom rom will you suggest with regards to Battery life and heating issue resolution?
some inputs here will he really helpful

I do not have the device yet and that is my dilemma whether to accept it or return it.
Does these roms also have overheating issues?
How is the battery life on these?
CitrusCAF 3.5 by miju12 seems very stable(dont flash custom kernel unless you know what you are doing) and have favourable review from the users.
and Lenovo z2 is better choice anyway
looks okay
Got mine today as well. Same deal as the OP (around $120). First thing done was an upgrade to Nougat. Sept 2016 manufacturing and there was still 30% charge left . Device did heat up during upgrade as it was on charge. Haven't observed any major heating since. I have upgraded (or downgraded) from a oneplus 2 so my criteria of heating may be somewhat biased. A 5 inch display does seem smallish though.
Geekbench 4 was 1720, 3999 which is par for SD820. So no throttling etc.
Just wondering what is so broken about stock ROM ? What's not going well with everyone on ZUI ? I did tweak the DPI to my liking - other than that ROM feels pretty much stockish android. I mean I have heard so much hate about stock ROM for this device?
Edited - Ok I am starting to see oddities. 1. Double notifications (any fixes?)
And the usual follow up questions -
- Does the U touch specialization / gestures (swiping etc) work on the custom roms for this device ? Edited - Yes I guess.
- Would unlocking bootloader reset the device ? If yes, might as well do it before setting up apps etc. Edited - Yes it would like any other device.

I have been using Rooted ZUI (I believe that’s what the stock rom is called) for a few weeks now (Xposed now, but that’s been just a few days). At first I thought I would keep it stock rooted and get all the things I need with Xposed, but the Notification drawer and Lock screen is getting on my nerves. All notifications are ICS Style, i.e. they are not expandable and they have no quick action (except USB connection to PC which lets u choose cam/file mode). Lock screen has this weird image in the middle which just sits there doing nothing. Notifications doesn't get displayed in lockscreen (weirdly I am getting 1 calendar notification there, but nothing else). I tried enabling lockscreen notification for a lot of apps, but it seems to just allow calendar and nothing else.
The U-touch is awesome BTW, but wont let me start Google Assistant voice through it (I like being able to set alarms through it)

XZ1 Compact Fw's: PROs & CONs

CONs:
crDroid [AlexKarimov]
PROs:
1 - Fast: Very responsive and loads quick. Example: stock used to delay when using google maps at all the wrong times. This ROM is lightning quick and I never miss a turn or exit.
2 - Stable: I've had only one or two random reboots but it's very rare.
3 - Customization: There is a high level of customization in this ROM. A LOT of options. At this point, I can't even tell you what I'm missing.
Bonus: Stock launcher is very nice. I usually upgrade to Nova for one reason or another but this has almost all the same features as Nova.
CONs:
1 - Data speed: I hesitate to put this here because I'm not sure if it's my ROM or incorrect APN settings(I don't remember stock so I've had to experiment). I've played around with different APNs and found one that works really good but data speed still seems a little slower than stock but only on Play Store for some reason.

General Impression: I love this ROM! It has just about everything I want(minus a few tweaks that are in AEX) but any drawbacks I've found are very minimal compared with the benefits.
Thank you for this comparison. I've recently purchased a second xz1c and just loaded AEX on it, so I'll give some impressions in a few weeks on that.

Thanks for review! Together we can bring up neat comparision of xz1 FW's!
Stock fw
pro:
Good battery life and has ultra stamina mode. Also Sony stock apps and audio tuning if you are into that kind of stuff. With combining firmware bits you can get volte and fingerprint working in US T-mobile.
con:
September 2019 is the last security patch, since then multiple vulnerabilities have been found including bluetooth "Bluefrag" vulnerability.
Lineage OS 17
Overall very clean and snappy rom. It's currently my daily driver.
Pro:
-Android 10.0 and everything that comes with it:
Built in gesture navigation
Re-worked permission management
New launcher/recents menu
-average battery life
-stock camera
-passes safetynet check
-trebuchet launcher with app lock functionality
-very stable, so far I have had no random reboots or anything of the sort.
Con:(not a lot)
-does not have picture preview after picture was taken on back camera in stock cam
-stock cam cannot save to sd card
Thanks for sharing your findings! Would you recommend LOS 16 or 17 over stock fw? How stable is it and how's the battery life? I have stock oreo and don't want to update due to the complaints. I've experienced some lag and restarts lately but I wonder if the long process of unlocking bl and flashing custom fw is worth it.

Using LOS 16.0 for 2 weeks with 47.2.A.11.228 stock firmware. Working perfectly and no problems with any app (no GAPPS installed and only using openSource apks such as: Signal, Telegram, K-9, QKSMS, OsmAnd, etc...)
Battery life, better than with stock Android 8.0 ( i never used Android 9 from Sony, just when i updated firmware to reboot and install LineageOS )
Since i'm working from home, is true that my XZ1C uses wifi all the time, but anyways, 3 days of battery is awesome

I've been using Lineage OS 17 by modpunk for the last three weeks and it's been very reliable. I have nano Gapps installed and get about 7% of battery used per hour with the screen on, and about 0.4% of battery drained per hour in stand by mode as reported by Franco Kernel Manager. Battery life for me is a bit worse than stock as there is no fine control over battery modes such as with stamina mode. I can get two days battery life with about 5 hours of screen on time, though I limit my charging to between 85%-15% which makes it a bit shorter.
I like the android 10 gestures as it frees up more space on the screen and I also like the new permission management for location. And I can't live without adaway which requires root.
I personally am happy with unlocking the boot loader and there is no significant difference besides when initially turning on the phone it shows a boot loader unblocked message. And the newer security patches are worth it in my opinion.
There is a easy to follow PDF guide that can explains all of the steps in the thread about DRM Key backups. https://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-xz1-compact/development/devonly-exploits-temp-root-to-backup-t3795510
I'll link it here if I find it.
But I wouldn't recommend it if you are planning on selling your phone in the near future.
Edit:
Found the PDF https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=78255334&postcount=382
Make sure to read all instructions thoroughly and donate to developers if possible.
Hope this all helped.
