I'm currently trying to unroot so I can update to Marshmallow. I've used the guide to try and flash a stock recovery as well as tutorials on youtube as well but I can't seem to get anything to work. I also can't find a stock recovery of my cid number which is SPCS_001 if anyone could help me find that recovery or point me in the right direction for flashing the right recovery that would be greatly appreciated.

No idea what you are talking about. No specific video is mentioned in this thread.
Also, I would suggest if you are modding the phone yourself (its not clear) you should avoid YouTube tutorials, and instead take the proper time to read and learn the processes, terms, etc. The video guides just spoonfeed you the steps, instead if you gaining any actual knowledge. Enough to get you into trouble, without any clue of how to get out.
We were messaging and he showed me a YouTube tutorial that is v the video in question. Thanks for the advice in the future though.

Case, it seems you are confusing "stock recovery" with an OS or ROM, which it is not. Recovery is just a small application/partition used to install or update the OS.

Hello, I've been a long time xda lurker (Never thought I could really add much anyhow) since I had my Dell Streak and I think for the first time since I got my M8 I need a bit of help.
They rolled out the lollypop OTA update here in Ireland and figured It was time to update to a stock ROM from here or a slightly improved one but ever since then I have lost my WiFi completely.
Sorry If this makes no seance- at all I'm a little burnt out trying to solve this on my own but even going back to 4.4.3 ROMs I still have no WiFi at all and any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

First - remove the serial no. & imei no. as those are sensitive info.
The details that you have does not show that you did OTA. You are still two versions behind.
Restore your stock ROM, flash a matching stock recovery (no custom recovery) then do OTA ... multiple OTAs up to the latest 4.16.410.10
If you're willing to set the phone up from scratch you can just update straight to Lollipop using the RUU available on here. If you want to go that route then you can following this guide I wrote:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2735235
Basically, step 3 covers what you need to do as step 1 and 2 are already done and at least once that's done if you still have issues you know it's not the software on the phone

No luck, kept getting error 99 with the 'htc_fastboot" from the thread and with my normal fastboot it gives me the error 32 'header error' I only noticed the thread was for s-off phones, I don't care about my phone saying tampered, unlocked or anything but I'm assuming that's stopping the flash from happening.

Hi all,
So I have my old M8 doing nothing (switched to Note 4)...
It's running a custom venom rom, and basically I want to put it completely back to factory state.
If you could help a guy that's moderately good at this stuff, I would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!!
Post the output from fastboot getvar all and we'll tell you what to do
Thanks for that, err - I haven't got the tools installed any more, could you point in the direction of the tools again sorry!

No other way, only sunshine.
But you don't need S-Off to revert to stock with that thread guide, you need to relock bootloader then follow all the steps.
The only thing is without S-Off, your bootloader will show RELOCKED instead of LOCKED.
Ah cool, minor.
Thanks
S-OFF would probably add a bit to resale value so might be worth doing - up to you of course!

That seems to come up randomly and doesn't really appear to point to anything in particular. You've definitely got a locked bootloader and are using the htc_fastboot?

Unfortunately it's still unlocked, but I can't seem to change that either. I'm using minimal adb and fastboot, but the htc_bootloader is in the folder.
Am I supposed to use that from the start, as I only see reference in the final stage.
Apologies, if I'm misreading!
EDIT, I followed the guide starting with recovery which kept failing... That must be the issue...
from your guide EDIT: Thread I meant:
"Well lord knows what's going on here...
I started by flashing the recovery to the one linked here. It won't boot into recovery at all it just sits at "entering recovery..."
I was using a venom custom rom and TWRP 2.8.5.0 touch recovery.
I can boot into the phone, use fastboot and adb - but can't go any further in restoring the handset back to factory... All help appreciated."

That depends. Are you s-off? If so, you can run a WWE RUU, and go back to basically stock. WWE is compatible with Rogers. You won't get OTAs though. You'll have to update firmware manually, but with s-off, that's easy to do.
My apologies, I failed to use my eyes.

Hi guys,
Apologies if I'm posting in the wrong place or if this has already been answered. Google suggests this is a common theme, so I hope you'll bear with me, but... I'm a bit of a beginner when it comes to rooting, and it's been some time since I rooted my M8 and I've forgotten most of what I learned.
I'm looking to 'unroot' my M8 and restore it to factory settings, for two reasons. Firstly, because it will allow me to receive OTA updates which are currently not happily installing (I assume this is due to my having rooted the device). Secondly, I want to unroot because my bank (Barclays) offers a mobile banking app which doesn't work on rooted phones... Which is annoying to say the least, but unfortunately I've concluded that the the app will be more useful to me than having my phone rooted.
My phone is a Vodafone HTC One M8 (VODAP001), S-ON and has TWRP installed, which I did just now in my attempts to unroot.
Doing `fastboot getvar all` gives me this:
Code:
[email protected]~$ fastboot getvar all

I hope this is useful and I've provided enough information for someone more knowledgeable to be able to help... but if not let me know and I'll do my best to provide what else is needed!
I should add that I'm a Mac user and as such any solutions which require using Windows tools would be less than ideal. However, if it's absolutely necessary I do have access to a Windows 10 machine which I'm sure my dad would be happy for me to use!
Thanks

That wwe ruu is useless. He is s-on and needs a Vodaphone ruu at least ! Or a stock nandroid backup.
His best chance is going here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3086860
Look for a backup that has the same main version numbers as your output. Restore it and flash back the stock recovery. That's all there is needed. That way ota will install fine.
I'm not sure if there is a vodaphone ruu with that main version number available and even if you find one and it has a LOWER number it's useless as you can't downgrade via ruu due to being S-ON
yea I know that's why I say google it

That one won't work, corrupted. See the size is small for a RUU and that already been discussed in other thread.
Thanks for the replies everyone. I'm still struggling to get my head around this, but I'm getting there!
So, am I right in thinking that all I need to proceed is a stock recovery img (which I have already) and a TWRP backup?

Yes .. you need restore non-rooted 4.19.161.2 backup and 4.19.161.2 stock recovery.img. Once done, proceed with OTA to the current latest 4.19.161.3
Thanks @ckpv5. I will have a go now and see where I get to. I have a copy of 4.19.161.2_ckpv5.zip as well as a 4.19.161.2 recovery so I think I should be all set.
Must say, I'm glad you replied to my thread as all my previous attempts had led me to your other posts/threads! But unfortunately lots of the files I was after had been taken down from mega/etc.
I'll post back with updates/questions when I've had another go

Thanks so much for your help everyone! I managed to get my phone unrooted and now the Barclays app and OTA updates are working as expected
I followed this process by @ckpv5, except I used adb to push the backup to my phone.

Not easy to do thing without PC.
You have a T-Mobile device, you should be able to find a backup in T-Mobile section : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2714456
If you have PC, then you can RUU it - http://www.htc.com/us/support/rom-downloads.html
Download the latest RUU 4.20.531.5
That's all I can help as I'm not familiar with T-Mobile US device.
Hello I bought M8 from somebody, it is unbranded European model i think, phone is rooted and carrier unlocked as im using it in asia. it comes with android 5.0.1, I want to update to stock marshmallow for this variant. I have been trying to do on my own but it only confused me more. Im not sure if i have custom rom or if because im rooted, because At the time moment it doesnt offer any software updates from the main menu.
Some info abt phone.
Its model id at back is Op6B100,
Android version 5.0.1
Software number 4.18.708.12
Build number 4.18.708.12
In the bootloader menu I have
Software status: Official
Locked ( i think it means bootloader)
M8_UL PVt SHIp s-off
Cid-11111111 (but if I check with cidgetter it says t-mob010). So it confused me because according to its model its supposed to be european model but in fastboot it says 11111111.
HBoot 3.19.0.0000
I dont have twrp installed.
So please tell me where to go from here. I want to either from here go direct to stock android 6 for this M8 variant or go back to stock condition and get ota update. I prefer to lose the root. So please tell me which stock firmware I need, and do I need to change cid, remove root, before that? Also i would like not to brick my device in process.. Thanks.
Also my device is carrier unlocked at the moment so Im hoping this shouldn't affect that. Thanks
.??

You understand the device is 4 years old, and there are only about 4 knowledgeable "helpers" around anymore (and not only all the time)?
Your mention of going "back" to S.ROM is confusing, as you don't indicate being on a custom ROM in your OP. Why not just reflash S.ROM to begin with, if that is the ROM you were having problems with?

You understand the device is 4 years old, and there are only about 4 knowledgeable "helpers" around anymore (and not only all the time)?
Your mention of going "back" to S.ROM is confusing, as you don't indicate being on a custom ROM in your OP. Why not just reflash S.ROM to begin with, if that is the ROM you were having problems with?
