Goodbye dear Fire Phone - Amazon Fire Phone

Well last month my Fire Phone met it's demise. Anyhow, I ordered the new BLU R1 HD Prime from Amazon 59.99(Prime member pricing) for 16 GB storage 2 GB Ram, anyhow, this cheap phone runs rings around the Fire Phone, and community support for this baby on XDA is amazing. If your looking for a replacement phone on a budget, this thing is amazing at this price point! Well the Fire was a neat( sometimes frustrating) experience while it lasted!!

BLU is rebranded chinese phones, blu is gionee and micromax is gionee. Probably you will not receive OTA updates

There have already been two OTA updates last one was july 5th security updates. Amazon is marketing this phone, they are not just selling it, they are partially subsidizing it. And a first ever for BLU, they have already released the source code. We already have bootloader unlocked, TWRP recovery, and root. Currently development is underway for custom Roms.
And to further enlighten you, Gionee only partners with BLU on a few phones, the R1 HD is made by Tinno, lol :silly:

Really? I briefly played with this phone (bought it for my grandmother) and removed the Amazon ads, but I assumed with the MT6735 the Blu R1 HD would severely underperform against the Fire Phone's Snapdragon 800.

That would pdobably be true, but the fire phone was hindered by the fire os. I just fnd this phone more responsive. I would not expect it, but it really holds it's own!!

That's fair. When I used the phone I had ggow's CM build on it and it ran smoothly.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the Fire phone, and would have loved to see a fire os 5 release, it just died at a time I was low on funds, so I took a chance on this budget phone, and was just amazed at it's budget performance, and how quickly community support took off.

Do you really is waiting an OS update in this phone?
I'm feeling that applications are getting out from this platform.

No I don't expect a release of fire os 5 for fire phone, I just was holding on to hope while I still had it. Once it died, lol I moved on.

[Q] Till when will the DEFY get completely OUTDATED??

Hey guys. I am thinking of buying a good budget android. And with the budget i have i would like to get a Motorola Defy. This phone for me will be a one time thing as i can't go on changing my devices every 8-9 months. So all i want to ask is till when will the defy get popular support and will be able to do what it does now before getting completely outdated(by this i mean the time when you just want to chuck your phone into the bin)
I'll be moving from a Symbian to my First Android device and of all things i know about Android this phones seems good to me(Except for the "LOCKED Bootloader thing")
So i want to use my defy as a primary device for at least a year and half (i know its too much but not possible for me to buy a device every other day). Is it possible with defy?
yeah, i think it is possible to use the defy for more than 1.5 years, at least i'm not planning to buy a new cell in a year there are rumors about motorola unlocking the bootloader and developing official 2.3 (gingerbread) to the defy, so if these are true, it will be supported for a long time. and hardware wise you don't have to worry, it is a high-end phone imo. so you should be fine
I just bought a Defy a little less than two weeks ago. Very similar position to yours - it's a one time thing, because my budget is limited, and the Defy offers nice hardware for the price. So despite the locked bootloader, I went for it. I think we'll be fine. The hacker community around this thing is awesome, not even the locked bootloader slows them down.
Outdated depends on what you do with your device.
Example: An entry level PC will last a home/student for as long as the physical parts last. Entry level PCs have 500GB HDD, 2-4GB DDR3 RAM, and most have a decent dual core CPU in them.
Gamers find themselves chasing technology quickly and things become outdated after a year. Faster memory, faster drives, bigger/badder GFX cards.
If you use your phone to surf the net, check emails, make and receive calls, take occassional photography, and listen to music then your phone will last as long as it physically lasts.
Now if you always want the "best" user experience (latest software versions, fastest phone) then your phone will not last 1.5 years. I love my Defy physically, but I wish I had Gingerbread. It is the best mid range Android Phone on the market right now. And it is durable to boot.
Most Compact Phone - 3.7" screen yet similar in size to an HTC Wildfire (3.2" screen).
Best Value for Money - Midrange phone with a high resolution 3.7" screen, 800MHz CPU.
Only mainstream Android phone that is durable.

well for me outdated can be the time when your phone just stops performing the basic tasks and app and developer support is reduced to the minimum extent.
For ex. I am currently using a Nuron(s60v5) device and it was a great device when i brought it back in July 2010. The phone offered great smartphone capabilities but now with s^3 in the market all products are either not compatible with my device or run too slow for daily use (Opera mobile can't even keep two tabs running simantaneously in a 3g network).
So i believe the dev support here is great and the defy will get support even after motorola stops pushing updates to it. But the BOOTLOADER IS LOCKED and there is no official word on unlocking it.

yeah the spec sheet is comparable to a high end phone. And the performance is good too....
Btw are there any sources about the gingerbread update and unlocking bootloader....

info about unlocking the bootloader:

and this is a leaked 'official' 2.3.3, !not final!:

hope this helps!
yeah, basically CM7 is running 2.3 aka gingerbread, so with such a healthy dev community, you'll probably get the best user experience the hardware can handle. im pretty sure you'll get to at least ice cream sandwich experince!
Hello !
I probably am in your situation too . I had a Nokia e63 for about 1 and a half year. The phone was great, but the lack of apps and the thing that most of them couldn't run on my device made me think about change
IMO Defy is one of the best choice on the market(good specs @ good price) and thanks to the hard working devs we have gingerbread(CM7/MIUI) and I hope some next releases will be ported to on this mobile device(like ice cream sandwich or future on releases).
Right now defy can run almost everything on the market with no problems !
I highly recommend you to go for this change ! Good Luck
I had a Samsung Galaxy S. Its huge, powerful and awesome. But I switched bcs, its practical, durable, almost as powerful and awesomer!

Honeycomb or Ice Cream Sandwich on Kindle?

Any chance that HC or ICS will be able to be ported to the Kindle Fire? It seems rather capable and rather nice outfit.
There is a chance that ICS will be ported. HC is no longer relevant at this point.
I can wait for ICS to become available in lou of having a quick HC rom.
Funny, HC was released (finally) in late October 2011 for my other device; I have it on my Google TV.

i hope someone will make an ICS rom for it, basically for the GPU accelerated menu's
I think amazon will upgrade it to icecream anyway with a future software update.
Why should Amazon update to ICS? Won't make sense with their customisation. Now you can't even see something from Gingerbread?

Do you mean besides being able to hardware accelerate the 2-d graphics rendering thus eliminating stutter? How about being up to date with the current API level?
There's plenty of reason for Amazon to update to ICS now that it's open-sourced - and they will.
What about RAM? Is 512 enough? The only reason letting me think of nook tablet.

With all due respect I kind of doubt they will. Think about it. What benefit would Amazon derive from it? Would it sell more books? Otherwise move more revenue generating content? Most of the people who bought the AF (XDA people excluded mind you) have little or no interest in ICS, HC, or what have you. They just want it to work. And it will. As good as it could? Perhaps, perhaps not. I suspect the only users jonesing for HC or ICS will be power users and really, I suspect that's a very very small portion of the AF user base. Devs are the best (if not only) hope for a port in my opinion. And that presumes enough Devs find the AF worthy of their time. There are a heckuva lot of devices out there to choose from!
Just random thoughts....
I'm holding out on this tablet till all the amazon crap os stuff is removed
miui please
LOL, Miui really? That would defeat the whole purpose for me. Miui is a great phone ROM but for tablets, its completely trash. ICS should be awesome. Not to bash u, im just sayin.
Any idea if, or which, devs are starting to look at doing ICS? We've got everything needed, right? Kindle source, ICS source, fires in our hands....I think this could take off because it's at such a sweet price point, and, I know this is vain, but I hate that little loop at the bottom left of the nook color...this feels like a real tablet..solid, sleek, minimalistic...the amazon launcher sucks, but I can see this being a dream on ICS.
Chances are we are gonna wait till a Clockwork mod recovery to surface or some kind of rom loader. So we can backup our .img for safe keeping and then flash the roms!
I'm really thinking about returning my Kindle Fire and picking up HTC Flyer for $100 more
Idk I think im gonna stick with the Fire. I bet devs end up piling on this thing. The nexus s only has 512mb of Ram and a single core and it runs ICS fine doesn't it?

At a lower resolution, the NS4G ICS SDK port tends to hang a bit because of the lower RAM. My expectations of a tablet is being able to have a ton of tabs and apps open without having to relaunch/reload things. The Fire is damn fine tablet at $200 but the 512 MB is a huge deal breaker when all of my recent smartphones have had that much or more. Current GPU's just practically eat half of the RAM by itself too.
You can run the ICS Launcher by the ACS Syndicate team here:
http://syndicateapps.com/main/ICS_Releases.html
Works fine on the kindle fire.. but the amazon bar still shows on the bottom.

[Q] N2Aos

Has anyone else seen or tried this OS for Kindle Fire HDs? Seems to be based on Cyanogenmod, but you pay for the installer and support. Was wondering how this compared to Hashcode's version?
N2Aos
I was using my faithful, trusty rooted Nexus 7 for the past year, but really needed a bigger screen. Was given a used fire hd 8.9. Hated it.
Decided to give N2Aos a try. Twenty minutes and twenty dollars later, I drove away in a new, pure android tablet powered by Cyanogen 10.1
and I never had to touch the tablet during the process. It was all done remotely.
That was approx 6 wks ago and still running like new. One caveat though, some launchers have weird glitches in landscape mode, but work ok in portrait. A coding problem of some kind. Other than that, it's perfect.

Nope, never tried it. My tablet is customization as it is with CM 10.2 kernel. I put on it what I want and remove what I don't. This might work well for those that don't want to fool around with modding their tablets themselves, fair enough. But seems like a waste of money for those capable of doing it themselves.

[Q] Android 4.4 KitKat

Hello everyone,
We all know Android 4.4 KitKat was released today(1/11/2013). Since the source will be availible, is it possible to port it to the kindle fire(1st gen)? If yes, please make a stable rom.
Thank you and have a nice day
(Wanna get rid of CM 10.1)
It will take at least a week I am guessing, because the update "will be rolling out over the following weeks" as Google said, and then people will have to port it, so just have a little bit of patience. Also, why don't you switch to CM10.2 if you don't like what your on, or AOSP for that matter, as that runs better I personally think.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
Not very likely since TI (the chip maker for the KF) won't be supporting android any more... or that's at least what I read. I'm hoping that I'm wrong though.

I cannot change too quickly. Mom allowed me only for CM 10.1, and now for CM 11(It will come, right?). Cannot do CM 10.2.
That kernel is not ready for primetime, also there is code that the chip maker will have to release code for it. See hash and others posting about it:

Google says that kitkat can run on devices that have as low as 512mb RAM. We can sure overclock our processor to 1.2 GHz

You know, hash doesn't say anything about not getting it to work. In my opinion he clearly stated that he is really trying to get 4.4 to work. It was others that were being sceptical.

True, the first ROM for any android version for our device is done by hash. Same case for 4.1,4.2,4.3,4.3.1

As was previously stated, Texas Instruments is out of the microprocessor chip game and they have stopped supporting the binaries for newer versions of Android. It wasn't directly stated by Google but it's very likely that it was for that reason that they chose not to support the Galaxy Nexus in the newest iteration of Android, as it also uses a TI chip. I'd like to think that it would be possible to run Android 4.4 on the old Kindle Fire, especially since it lags pretty badly on stock, but I am afraid that the likelihood is fairly low.
True that it also what is written on hash's thread for the new kernel. He sure I trying hard and so my hopes are pretty much alive

Asus zenfone 5z: Android P release date.

Does any one know when will this latest flagship from asus is about to get Android P.
As the direct compiters of this device is far ahead of the game in providing updates(but with my exp of using this device couple of days it's Sw is pretty stable).
As a android user I will be always eager to use latest updates from Google and see how the performance and innovation is getting improved.
My past exp with using custom roms is very bad and my openion in custom roms is full of bugs and instability.
Instead the device maifacturer has the competency to build and test the rom which is reliable enough. So depending on the OEM is far better. This is just my openion but unfortunately OEM's are not dependable and greedy these days due to completion and other things in market.
Bottom line when is the Android P expected to this device. Or in your openion should I shift to a good supplier who provides faster updates.
Thanks.

Let me think. I am a bit worried as I have a latest flagship from asus but running 8.0 still
Anyway thanks.
Why are people so hung up on the getting the newest update immediately? There are usually bugs that need to be worked out, such as the Android P fast charging bug.
I'd rather get it a little later after it's smoothed out.
I'm expecting it at end of Q4/18.
