Anyone who decided to return their s7 and go for the HTC 10, is there anything you miss from your s7?
Thanks!

I really want the HTC 10 but their shoddy release so far is making me very impatient. I may be forced into an S7, sadly.
The only thing I miss is the wireless charging.
I have both phones currently.
What I've noticed so far that I miss about the s7: it's narrower. With the leather case on it, it's only 20 thousandths of an inch thicker than the htc10 without a case. The case selection for the s7 is so much better. I'm sure it's more than cases, but that was the issue I encountered the most. The screen auto brightness adjusted faster on the s7. The s7 being waterproof... I actually have this cross my mind every day or two, but I haven't been in a situation yet where it would have mattered.
For the HTC, the radio is better. I'm on Verizon, specifically the CDMA radio has better reception for longer. The speakers are better for sure. I'm getting 30 to 45 minutes better battery life on average. It's nice not theming everything black by necessity. The home button being capacitive is so nice compared to the s7. Fluid Android is fluid.
Both phones are Verizon.

Forgot the waterproof thing. Would be nice to have, but in 20 years I've never lost a phone due to water damage so not a huge loss. Screen on the S7 is brighter outdoors.
I miss the multi window on most Samsung's
I miss the battery life my exynos s7 edge provided. However I'm still making it the entire day with my HTC so it's not a big deal

Thanks for the replies!
Came from a T-Mo S7 Edge to a T-Mo HTC 10.
Right off the bat, the most glaring advantage that I missed from the S7 Edge was the screen. The colors just pop on that gorgeous amoled. In the days since I've bought my HTC 10 I've grown to like the cooler color temp on the LCD but I'd trade it for those oversaturated colors in a heartbeat lol.
Battery life has been a wash for the most part between both devices with the S7 Edge pulling ahead slightly (3600 mah battery so its to be expected).
Performance wise -- Sense blows Touchwiz out of the water. Its gotten better with each iteration of Touchwiz but micro-lag and even sustained lag rear their ugly heads when navigating through Samsung's flavor of Android. The HTC 10 handles everything with ease and never slows down. S7E does as well for the most part, but the lag is unavoidable in some instances. All of this being said, I did find the S7E to run much cooler than my HTC 10.
Finally, if you plan on making any modifications or if you're somebody who is into tinkering with your Android devices, avoid the S7/S7E at all costs. The HTC 10 is the best device for this due to dev friendly community and HTC's willingness to allow you to modify their devices. The HTC 10 has an unlockable bootloader and some day has a very good chance of seeing many competent AOSP roms. AOSP on the S7/S7E is currently a pipe dream. Even custom roms are a no go at this point and Samsung's knox/bootloader security only becomes more of a pain in the ass for devs with each iteration. It really has taken a toll on what used to be a thriving community for the Samsung devices.
All in all, I am extremely satisfied with switching from the S7E to the HTC 10 for what its worth.
I actually went through the S7, HTC 10 and landed on the S7 Edge. Here's my opinion for what it's worth:
I really thought this would be the perfect HTC phone, and I actually really wanted it to be the one since I think the company has had great ideas in the past that have been trampled by poor execution. My first Android phone was the HTC One M7, and aside from the so-so camera, it was one of my favorite phones ever. BoomSound, Sense, and the phone's overall look were something totally new and refreshing. After reading the reviews of the M8's camera, I decided to pass and went back to Apple for a year. When the M9 came out, I jumped on it, and quickly jumped off after I had a few days to learn all about the Snapdragon 810 and its thermal issues. I picked up an LG G4 next, which was serviceable, but nothing special. I always had my eye on HTC though waiting for the 10.
Once it came out, I made sure to read all the reviews that I could, crossing my fingers that HTC would hit the mark. After I saw that the camera was finally up to snuff, I took the plunge and bought it. $699 is a steep price for a phone, but I managed to catch the $100 discount offer and got it for $599 before tax, which was great. I also got it in 2 days, which was nice considering I heard that some people here on XDA were having ordering problems.
After using the phone for a few days, and comparing it side-by-side to the S7, I started to make a mental list of pros and cons
PROS
- Screen: HTC has always had good screens on their flagships, and the 10 is no different. Bright and vibrant colors with great viewing angles. Obviously they're not as saturated as Samsung's AMOLEDs, but you can set the LCD display to vivid mode to approximate it, or sRGB mode for nice accurate colors
- Sound Quality: While the external speakers aren't as good as the original BoomSound, they're more than capable and produce an interesting sound. The BoomSound equalizer settings also makes your music sound great with headphones. I didn't get to test out HTC's own earbuds though since they didn't come with the US version
- Build Quality: The phone feels as solid as ever, but that's also a con that you'll see below
- Battery Life: I never had any trouble getting through a whole day of texting, web browsing, light gaming and listening to music
- Camera: While it might not be able to quite pass Samsung, it gives them a good fight. Easily the one of the top cameras on the market behind the Galaxy Brothers, and HTCs best camera ever. The selfie cam is great too, and it's actually better than what Samsung has to offer on it's S7 models. My only little gripe with the rear camera is that the laser autofocus can be a little spastic, going in and out of focus when you activate it, but I feel like another software update can take care of that
- Fingerprint Scanner: One of my favorite features. It was really quick to read my fingerprint, and since it's a a capacative sensor instead of a physical button, you don't have to press it down to activate the display and scanner. Just put your finger on it and it works
CONS
- Sense: I loved the previous versions of Sense, but I think HTC toned this one down a little too much. I appreciate the fact that there aren't any duplicate apps like there are on most devices, but I feel like taking out the HTC Gallery and Music apps was a mistake. Visually, this version is a mix of classic Sense and stock Android, which doesn't always combine well. Some of Sense's elements (like the weather clock) are starting to look a little dated compared to the competition too, so the contrast between MM and Sense is a little jarring on some menus. I also don't understand why HTC kept the 4x4 homescreen now that the phone has a 5.2" display. With so much real estate to work with, the gaps between apps are pretty big, and I feel like there should be a setting to go to 5x5 since most other OEMs include that. The Quick Settings menu also can't be modified like it could be in older Sense versions and competitor UIs, and you have to either double pull to extend it, or swipe down with two fingers. If I wanted a Nexus, I'd have bought one
- Build Quality: As I mentioned above, the phone feels really solid, almost to the point of being heavy. It weighs 6 grams more than my old G4, which was mostly plastic, and you can feel it. It's very noticeable when it's in your pocket, and makes a bit of a thud when you put it down on a table. Even adding a thin TPU case to it also increases the weight to the point where I felt uncomfortable handling it one-handed
- Screen-Body Radio: My LG G4 had a 5.5 inch display and was 148.9 mm tall. The HTC 10 has a 5.2" display and is 145.9 mm tall. So the phones are relatively the same size and the 10 has a noticeably smaller screen.
- FM Radio: HTC has included FM radio support from the M7 - M9, and I was really surprised that it didn't continue that trend with the 10. Carriers like T-Mobile & AT&T are requesting that OEMs enable their device's FM chips, and T-Mo just got Samsung to flip the switch on the S7's radio, so I don't understand why HTC didn't just keep doing what they were already doing.
- Headphone Jack: Most phones had their headphone jack at the top up until a few years ago. Putting it at the bottom made it easier to just slip the phone in your pocket without tangling the headphone cord. With the advent of fingerprint scanners, it made even more sense, since you could grab the phone and unlock it before you even got it out into the open. Having the jack back up at the top made me have to think every time I pulled it out and have to flip it back around.
- Notification LED: Back when I had the M7, I was OK with having a tiny notification LED embedded in the speaker grid that only flashed 2 colors, even though other OEMs already had multicolor LEDs that could be programmed using their own software or apps like Lightwave. Three years later, the only thing HTC has changed is that the LED is just below the speaker. It still only blinks amber or green, so there's almost no opportunity to customize
I really wanted to like this phone, and I tried very hard to convince myself that it was good enough, but at the end of the day I was disappointed that HTC spent the last year getting so many things right like the camera and the phone's overall look, and blew it on some other areas that would have been really easy wins. Granted, nothing that I listed above is a horrible flaw, and I know that everyone has their own list of requirements for their ideal device, but I felt like I was making too many compromises with the 10. I know that I could always load up a ROM or download a new launcher, but it would only solve a few of my cons.
Again, these are my personal opinions, and my thought process is that if I'm going to spend that much on a flagship device that I want to keep for 2 years, I need to feel like I'm getting what I paid for. Unfortunately the 10 didn't quite hit that mark. It's not a bad phone by any stretch, and it may be the one for you. I decided to return my S7 and the HTC, and went with the S7 Edge, which rocks a 5.5" screen, 3600 mAh battery, and is only 5 mm taller than the 10. It's also 4 grams lighter and 1.3 mm thinner, and feels a lot better in my hand even with a case. It costs about $70 more the 10 at full retail, but I feel like you get a lot more for your money.
Maybe the water resistance feature, otherwise, I didn't care for anything else. The 10 seems solid, doesn't lag as much as the samsung. I am unlocked and rooted , so it is something I am grateful for after rocking the s7 for only 1 months.
I am getting better battery performance with the HTC 10 compared to what I got with the s7.
Personally nothing is missed I had the s7, now it's my wife's lol
Love this HTC 10
Got the s7e one week to test, before i got my preordered htc 10. Screen(manufacter;sharp) is much better and much more natural than the S7 "comic style" display no matter which calibration i used. Also there are "pentile micro dots" visible while zooming in a white page on the amoled of the s7.
UI: Much smoother, and the stockish design of the ui is perfect for me as i came from a thc m7 gpe. Also less bloatware on the 10.
Cons: thermal throttling seems to be more a problem of the 10 as on the s7e exynos. Hope custom kernel or software update will change the clocking, as it throttles the CPU at 38degrees celsius to 1,36 max clock at the moment.
S7e cam is slightly better in my opinion.
Which fingerprint sensor do you guys think is better?
I had a s7e, I find the fingerprint sensor on the 10 better. I haven't really had too much throttling so far either.

I've heard in quite a few reviews that the HTC 10 sensor is superior to the S7/S7 Edge.
Alot of S7/S7 Edge reviews describe the sensor as hit or miss.

Ah, I see.
Just to be clear, I own neither but have played with both in store and I do extensive research before purchase.
Based on the above, I do much prefer the HTC 10.

You have to be kidding. If you set any Samsung phone to "Basic," it is the most color accurate display on a smartphone, period. There is no "comic-ness" to it. It is a true reproduction of sRGB which actually looks extremely dull and boring, but it's accurate. The 10 is an LCD which is vastly inferior to OLED panels in phones. Worse viewing angles, and subjectively terrible contrast since 1700~:1 is garbage compared to infinite contrast.
I find it hard to believe you can see "micro dots" on a 500+ PPI screen. I can make out the edges of pixels on my 6P due to lack of antialiasing, but I haven't tried to on the S7E. Either way the 6P had to be up in my face, and I had to look hard to see it. But there were certainly no visible dots.

The 10's fingerprint sensor pad is too small in my opinion, but it is still better than the S7/E. Reason being it's capacitive, and a hair faster. Samsung are idiots for continuing to use a physical home button, and one you have to press to unlock the phone. But the accuracy rate of the S7/E is a lot better than it ever used to be - especially if you program the same finger twice (something I do on every device anyway). It may tell you the finger is already programmed, but just do the initial scan really far back from the pad of your finger, then it will let you scan wherever you want to again.
Have my exynos s7 edge on sale while I got this one to use. The HTC 10 is a great phone but in my opinion, not better than the s7 edge. What I miss mainly is the screen. I love LCD but the AMOLED display on the s7 edge is quite Good. Don't like the over saturation but got used to it. It's a darn good display. Sadly my HTC 10 display has a pink tint to it and the bottom of the phone has a strong pink tint to it (likely not a sharp panel from the few comments I've seen here and there). So far, battery life has not been great. My s7 was one of those that went long on battery. I can Un plug at 7 am and plug back in at midnight with 7 hours screen on time. With the same usage on my HTC, I'd be charging only @ 6pm with less screen on time. Also the camera is descent but doesn't focus like the s7 edge does @ night and ui wise, I've spent the phone micro stutter much more than my edge but not to the annoying degree. That's about it. What I live about this phone...the damn DAC. Holy crap it's good. Even listening to spotify feels like I'm listening to something almost magical lol.
Small things. GPS takes a while to lock and wifi module isn't as good as the exynos. I have 175mbps connection. I get the full thing in my room with both phones. In my restroom, 20 feet away from my room, my HTC only pulls 50mbps while the galaxy pulls 125mbps. Also, I got wifi in my car while parked in the street in front of my house. With the HTC, wifi disconnects in the exact same spot.

Hi,
Im thinking of buying this phone, what are the ups/downs ? strengths weaknesses you have encountered.
Do you hate it/love it ? I need to know, i've read too many articles but some seem biased imho.
Thanks alot.
Perhaps not the best phone at everything but the best at its price point at the moment imho.
Depends really what is important to you.
I was trying to decide between this and S7 edge. The latter is a slightly better phone (smaller footprint, better screen and camera, bigger battery, higher cool factor, wireless charging, waterproofness...) and if it was £50 more than Op3 I would have gone for it. But I could not justify the £200 difference and went for the Op3.
And I have no regrets whatsoever. The phone feels a lot more premium that I had expected, it is blazing fast, the batter is also quite good and I have no issues with the screen at all. It is by far the best phone I have ever owned and I generally switch phones every six to eight months so have tried a few.
There is a 15 day money back guarantee so I recommend that you go for it and if you don't like it you can always return it. I suspect that will not be the case though...

Can't speak for anyone else but my favorite things about this phone are:
1) Quick charging. With the Dash charger is very quick, inline with what's advertised. I've charged the phone on a plane using a DC charger and it was fast as well.
2) The finger print reader is super fast.
3) Overall the phone feels fast, much faster than my old Moto X Pure.
Things I don't like:
1) Screen is too dim using adaptive brightness.
2) Sound is weak compared to the Moto X Pure.
the samsung S7/e definitely has better specs, but even if it had a clean stock version of Android (which it definitely does not, TouchWiz sucks), the OP3 is a far more cost effective phone.
A better comparison since now it's almost the same price is the Nexus 6P ($404 on Amazon Prime Day (64GB) for example, and 32GB model has been $380 several times now).
Main differences between these two is:
- QHD vs 1080p (you won't notice unless you do VR)
- OP3 has an alert slider (and disables Automatic DND rules) vs N6P has normal DND mode w/ automatic rules etc
- Camera is better on Nexus 6P (unnoticeable during the day, but during low light photos you can tell)
- Camera App is MUCH faster on OP3 - both at launch and taking photos
- OP3 is smoother/faster & keeps more apps in RAM
- Fingerprint Sensor on front vs on back (both incredibly fast, location is a preference)
- OP3 has optional Capacitive buttons vs N6P has only software buttons
- N6P has Slightly bigger screen (5.7" vs 5.5") and is slightly (20g) heavier - but both are equally thin
- Stock Android M (gets faster updates) vs Oxygen OS (slightly slower updates but has more customization features)
i enjoyed this phone, wanted to keep it, but my 6P takes slightly better pictures. I have kids which i like to photograph whenever i get a chance and it's really important they look best. Its not like the camera is bad or anything, i loved it, in fact. Just think i would stick to my Nexus for now. I also want to try the Axon 7 and need to make the $ back for it lol. However, it was tough to make that decision yesterday
The cons for me;
- no Do not Disturb software. Have to use the slider button. It tends to override 3rd party apps too. May have found one working, but reliability is questionable
- no automated night mode, weak screen dimming software. Again have to use 3rd party, Lux, but having some problem with that app (slows down notification panel)
- I was on a cheap chinese phone last year, but it had a 4000mah battery. Kind of hard to get back to a flimsy 3000mah. Had to install xposed, greenify, Forcedoze, Amplify, trying to boost it to have a decent battery. I couldn't care less about Dash Charge. I charge my phone once a day, and that's while I sleep. I don't carry the Dash charger with me. That is not practical and I hope the people at 1+ and other companies stop ****ing around with the battery size. Device is really light. Really could have used better battery.
- what a poor support. Still couldn't get a refund on the case and tempered glass they had to cancel due to out-of-stock (but still charged me). Ticket is still open going back and forth. Just because of that I will think twice before ordering directly from them.
- I am not a fan of sound coming out from the bottom of the phone. I like ZTE Axon 7 take on stereo sound.
pros
- dev friendly, so roms will most likely fix most software issues
- seems pretty solid. No freeze/crash/random reboots so far, and the only slow downs I experienced in the UI are caused by some compatibility issue I have with Lux permanent notification.
- I like that the home button is capacitive. Won't break due to over use (happened on my last phone)
- providing I find a stable and bug-limited rom, best android phone I owned

You certainly will notice the difference of the Op3's Pen Tile 1080p Amoled display compared with a QuadHD Amoled, even in normal use. That's in direct comparison. Use the Op3 for a while and you likely forget.
As to value, the OP3 is clearly better value than £600 flagships but for me, the benefits the S7(E) has are worth the extra. (I cycle a lot and the water resistance is incredibly useful as is the bright screen).
If the above is not too important I'd thoroughly recommend the OnePlus.
(Still, mine is provisionally sold and soon on its way to its new and probably happy owner).
The previous comments all pretty much sum up what I would have to add. Highly recommend the phone...it's worth every penny of the $399 and then some. Very satisfied with my purchase.
I'm going to make one observation about the screen though. 95% of the time, I can't discern a difference between the OP3's 1080p screen and my old Nexus 6 1440p screen. That 5% kicks in when I want to view photos that I've snapped on the phone. Zooming in to those photos creates a considerable loss in detail. This was not the case with my Nexus 6. Zooming into photos retained so much detail and clarity, even though the N6 camera is not as good as the OP3 camera.
My two cents!
Op3 have some flaws, but not everyone experiencing, which are mostly software related which can be fixed with updates ... But it doesn't mean a flawed phone, rather it is best phone on which money can be spent without too much thinking.
By the way every phone whether it cost some penny or our whole arm and leg, has some flaws , that doesn't mean phone is not good.
Therefore you have read several review blog, device specific sections here on xda which will help you to know what are most common problems with particular phone. If these problems are to severe that software update or dev community can't fix then you have to make careful decision before purchase.

About One plus 3 - It is very strong device, its perfomance is strong in every department, and is above the money you pay .
and that Dash Charge its awesome, ridiculously fast ,70 minutes and is goes from zero to hero
For me it's all about development. This device is more stable, faster and nicer than my previous g3. S7 is fine phone and even tw improve a lot, but on open phone, there are unlimited possibilities, on s7 you have just one.

I would agree that side-by-side you can tell a difference, but it's irrelevant for day to day use.
Also, far more noticeable is the difference in both DPI, and in colors (unless you enable sRGB mode on both phones).
No dash charging on custom ROMs sucks, but OP should be releasing source code for this later this month right?

I can't speak for other countries, I live in The Netherlands for the record.
Now, the big plus for me is the price.
The oneplus 3 only costed me € 399,-
If I were to look for other flagships, I would look at these prices
Galaxy S7 : € 650,- on average
Nexus 6P : € 530,- on average
LG G5 : € 550,- on average
Now my last phone was a 2013 Nexus 5 and honestly I didn't feel that upgrading to a 5X was worth it.
But then if i look at other flagships, prices around here seem to rise exponentially.
Yes, ofc I think that an S7 is a great phone, but € 250,- better on average? (Considering all the bloatware you get with it, Its really not worth that much more. Also no support for development really with locked bootloaders.)
Pro's
- Clean version of android with more features
- No bloatware
- 6GB of RAM (For people who say RAM doesn't matter, try using a Nexus 9 Tablet with its 2GB of memory with a 64-bit OS. You will want to throw the thing out of your window before the end of the day.)
- price to value
- great fingerprint scanner
Cons
- only 1 place where you can buy it (online)
- doesn't have all the features like an S7 has (water resistant etc. )
- Slower updates compared to a Nexus device
- No option to use a schedule for "Do Not Disturb", instead you have a slider. (I like the slider but why the **** did they take out the damn scheduler. I like my downtime every night from 23:00 till around 07:00, Now I have to do it manually.)
Let me just add bad camera quality on custom ROMs.
Hopefully Oneplus will release the camera apk

Hey guys im looking for a new phone which isn't heavy on the budget but still delivers (currently using Nexus 5x) and im deciding between the HTC 10 and GS S7 Edge , the 10 is brand new 270 pounds and the S7 Edge is refurbished 300 pounds . I would like to hear your opinions and is it worth buying in late 2017 .
Are you getting an Exynos GS7 or a Snapdragon one? If I recall correctly, only the Exynos model has lots of development because the Snapdragon models are locked down. I assume you care since you're asking on XDA.
Other than that, what else is important to you? Would you prefer a more compact phone or a larger one? Is waterproofness necessary for you? I hate extreme curved screens but you might like it.
For me, the HTC 10 is still a great phone in 2017. We're definitely getting Oreo and the only real lacking point is waterproofness (which isn't even important to everyone). It's fast, has a good camera, the battery life is good and development has been good.

The Exynos model , waterproofness isn't a necessary for me , im looking for a better performance and battery life and yes i do like to tinker with my phones i've moded my nexus with root , kernel , thermal optimizations and so on . What kind of screen on time do you get ? My nexus gets me 3 hours of screen on time max with a total time off charger 7-8 hours im down to 10 % , i consider my use as a heavy one because i like to play games listen to music on spotify and chat .
If battery life is your most important factor (performance won't be that far apart overall) then the Edge will probably do better since it's a larger phone (and hence a larger battery).
The HTC 10 is competent for a 2016 flagship but nothing extraordinary. When I'm playing games, I get between 4-5 hours of SOT for example. You'll find that 4-5 hours SOT is what most people report for their SOTs under heavy use.

Okay thanks for your time you gave me valuable information and now its up to me setting my priorities in deciding which one to buy.
I don't know about others, but the HTC 10 has been a pretty amazing phone for me. The size is just perfect, the audio is amazing, and the software, even if a little stale, is fast and smooth.
My only problem with it is the battery. My battery life has been horrible ever since the Nougat Update, and after sending it to the service, I'm certain that this is a software issue. I hope that Oreo will fix this issue though.
If you rely on battery as heavy gamer/user don't look at this phone, drainage is very fast just with medium use, heavy kills it faster. S7 has more endurance
I recently bought a HTC 10. I was thinking of getting an S7 but I opted for the HTC 10 for things that I like, such as, 3.5mm jack at the top of the device, metal body, volume keys and power on the right hand side and type c usb 3.1 (more for the future).
A key reason for the HTC 10 are the custom roms that are currently available on the AOSP side. In terms of manufacturer stock android, HTC Sense isn't too bad. Although I do rock a custom rom (AICP to be precise) I do miss HTC's boomsound, HTC camera and power saving.
I have both the 10 and the Pixel 1 (5 inch). I've used both a lot - concentrating on the 10 for a good half a year until I just gave up. Although the 10's Android is nearly identical to AOSP, the fact that HTC doesn't care about decimal updates (no 7.1) - there are particular parts of the upgrade to 7.1 on the Pixel which would fix some of the annoyances I've found with 7.0 on the 10 - and that the software on the Pixel works so well that I prefer to just modify it with some root apps than run a custom ROM anymore, I would go for anything but the 10. Also, my wife and I had a horrible experience having her phone replaced under their non-warranty 1st year Uh Oh Prorection deal.
I also really don't like that with polarized sunglasses on, the 10's screen is unviewable in portrait mode. Most manufacturers choose landscape mode for that, and the Pixel screen is only black at odd angles (diagonally).
Now the only thing I use the 10 for is music, and to have a spare just in case.
Which network are you on?
I love my 10 except for whatever nougat has done to the battery life. It's decent but not as good as it was on the previous Android version.
Other than that...the size is good, sound is great, the screen is really good, no bloatware and the available themes give your phone a new feeling when you need it. HTC has also been very good with the security updates.
If you're looking for cases, I'd recommend checking Ali Express. They have a better selection than Amazon.

I love my 10 and all, and I think it was the most remarkable phone of 2016. It was the only real choice for a "robust" phone that you can rely on to not disintegrate if it falls, with all the flagship specs of 2016. The fingerprint sensor is better than the S7E, and the screen colors are better IMO. The camera is great for average use, which is what I can comment on.
That being said, I'd get a Nokia this year. Or better yet, wait for next year's refresh of the Nokia 5 and get it with Oreo and Project Treble. I think this should be any tinkerer's criteria for a phone purchase from here on: PROJECT TREBLE. Phone after phone, I find myself spending my money on a higher resolution screen (1080p is enough), and a faster SOC (any modern SOC will get the job done wonderfully), just so that I can buy into the update-receiving club of an OEM. With Project Treble, I can give up this "forced-upgrade" for the sake of updates, and rest assured that I'll always have the latest version of Android running, either with OEM support or with XDA support.
Cheers and good luck.

Beware the hidden issue with these phones is that they have 4gb of ram and 3.6-3.8 usable. Heavier multi tasking between some apps for example, chrome, spotify, fb messenger, and your choice of texting apps does not go well. I used to have the one plus 3 and it handled that multi tasking like a champion. If you could I would recommend the one plus 3 it can get 6-8 hours sot with the right kernels and roms. You also dont have to deal with touch wiz. Also the one plus 3 has the same 3000 mah battery htc has I'm not sure what the s7 has. But I bet you couldnt get 8 hours sot on it lol
Just my two cents, but I like my 10 a lot. I do run a custom ROM on it, and bought the Sprint version, which can be unlocked to use on any network except for VZ. You can also unlock LTE bands with this phone, so it will work with literally every network that's not on VZ...worldwide.
The screen is probably the best non-(AM)OLED screen that I've used, but I do miss the (AM)OLED from my S5 and Droid Turbo.
The camera does very very well with the modified Google camera by BSG or Arnova8G2, at least in mid to higher lights. In low light you have to turn off ZSL or else it'll be very very dark.
The battery is mediocre. I get about 4 hours of SoT before I feel the need to recharge. That's with fairly heavy use/games.
Build quality is great. Gorilla Glass 3 is just as strong as 5 (just not as thin) but it will scratch on you. There aren't any good glass screen protectors for this phone, so you'll have to tough it out without one or go the flexible screen protector route. Zack from JerryRigEverything named this the most sturdy phone of 2016.
The modding community is great, and other than the OnePlus and a few Samsungs, it's more popular on XDA even than the Pixel. There's two 8.0 ROMs out there and both are very capable daily drivers.
What I want that would make this the perfect phone: OLED screen, bettery battery, better case selection (the imak cowboy case is pretty nice, same with the Nillkin Nature), no low-light photo issues with Google Camera. That's it. Literally, it has everything else I could want.

To the question in the title, I'd answer, "maybe" but the latest Chinese offerings look tempting but I don't know their quality.
To the question in the post (10 vs S7 Edge), that's a different one altogether, so not sure which one you're really asking. I upgraded to the 10 from the Nexus 5 (not the 5X) and found it to be an excellent upgrade in the post-Nexus world. (The Pixel cost too much for my taste and, frankly, it's ugly.)
Prior to the N5, I had the Samsung SIII and loved that phone. The hardware, anyway; I hate TouchWiz and removed it from my SIII and Note 10.1. Between greater bootloader unlock hassle and explosions (and the dishonest handling of those), I avoid Samsung entirely (to include computer hardware and household appliances).
That's my thinking that may give you some ideas to consider. My only issues with the htc 10 are the display quality issue (yellow tint at the bottom) and the temperamental fingerprint scanner. (poor customer service and slow updates but those are normative for all OEMs, sans Google on the latter) Otherwise, it's a solid phone with a superb aesthetic, especially the red one and, at the time, it was deeply discounted by htc.

Add to that a removable battery door, so that the battery may be removed completely. I hate this "glue the phone together" style of manufacturing.
One year on, my battery is weak and the performance is choppy. I just put up with it rather than have to reset it all the time.
But I bought it mainly for the audio performances and it's fantastic in that regard. If you look at it as getting a nice mobile phone and superb DAP in one the price now is a bargain.
I've been with my HTC 10 since May 2016 so that has been 1.5 year and these are my experiences
- Camera is GREAT (snappy - lots of functions - great quality)
- Performance has been as snappy as Pure Android
- Updates aren't so often (official ROMs are still on 7.0 and most probably August Patch lol)
- Battery has been a little bit worsen since Nougat update but I gotten rid of the issue by installing custom kernels and great ROMs you could find here in XDA.
- Device quality is TOP-NOTCH
- Sound quality is STILL ON OF THE BEST TODAY (you could use any fancy or higher impedance headphones on this boy and it sounds LEGIT)

I had the revolutionary HTC one M7, I had the M9 and got the HTC 10 on launch day. I am on T-Mobile but I unlocked the SIM and wrote SuperCID and switched to the unlocked developer version. I am using Magisk systemless root with a bunch of modules and the phone just works... and the music quality is just top notch!
i still love mine--HTC 10

One thing in its defense of gluing, the last THREE Samsung phones I've had where the battery is removable has had battery connection issues. As in, I tap my phone wrong and it restarts.
I also think the HTC 10 has had battery issues where it reports incorrectly.
Hello everyone.
In considering the Oneplus 5t as a replacement to my good old Samsung note 4, especially for the price compared to today's flashships.
One of the main factors when I chose any device is the screen quality. I understand the 5t scores really high in this sector, but I'm worried about the resolution and screen DPI.
My note 4 and all today's flagships have higher resolutions, and I'm wondering if anyone has compared the 5t screen with other devices and can notice any real difference in daily life, mainly while browsing pictures were pixels become more evident.
I considered the Note 8 and LG v30, but I really can't stand those curved edges, and I don't need a pen since I don't use the one on my note 4.
Thanks!!

I upgraded from the Note 4 to the OP3T and then the 5T. My decision was based on easy root and Dev community. I cannot notice a significant difference in screen resolution (if you look at TV resolution guides you'll see that you need to be insanely close to the screen to notice on something as small as a phone). OnePlus allows you to manually adjust the DPI to suit your preference so you can have tiny icons and such. I love this phone compared to my Note 4. Way snappier and no slow down from TW.
I personally have never thought "this screen would be better if it was 4k". But Samsung's infinity display is definitely a better display if that is your only concern.

Thanks for the reply.
Since you had a note 4, how would you compare the screen with the 5t one? Would you consider the 5t an upgrade in terms of quality, color accuracy, brightness, watching angles etc?
Also, is the 5t camera overall an upgrade compared to the note 4?
Thanks

Full disclosure I didn't use the camera on the Note 4 all that much, but looking through the pictures that I took with it the OP5T seems to take much better pictures. The portrait mode is also great to have.
As for the screen, I personally don't notice a difference in quality. Small text still has clearly defined edges that I can see. I don't use my phone for VR so I can't comment there. I really like the colors on the display and didn't notice any significant color difference between the two, but this is subjective. It is plenty bright and I think that might be an upgrade from the Note 4 as I seem to recall having to manually adjust the brightness to actually see it whenever I stepped outside and still having some issues. Viewing angles are also great with this phone. I don't have any color shift unless it's a pretty extreme angle.
The one thing the screen has going for it is it's size and lack of bezels, which I really love. Other than that I'd say you'd be hard pressed to find a significant difference between the two unless you looked really closely or had special equipment. So not really an upgrade in screen quality, but definitely not a downgrade. The rest of the phone is a huge improvement though. Way faster to use and a much better update schedule.

Thanks . Such a reply is much better than any review on the net, as you gave real life experience.
I'm really satisfied with the Note 4 display, and if this isn't a downgrade, that's grade. Being with much less bezels and overall lighter is a huge plus too.
I'm a Note 4 to 3T and now 5T convert.
Updates aren't an issue with OP, they're doing a fine job now. If I had to complain, and I don't need to, it's the security updates are always behind.
I don't have the issues that a lot of others are having. I also don't have a lot of crap apps on my phone. 100% stock with dark theme, BT always on, brightness between half and 3/4 and I'm averaging 1.25 day of battery and 8hrs of SOT.
In regards to the screen, it's made by Samsung. I'm surprised at how easy it was to adjust to. Choose your preset or customize it and run with it.
Camera, hmm, it's good but not as good as the Note 4 in low lighting. Once you get to know how to use the camera, other pics come out quite nicely. Most of the pics I take are of circuit boards and car parts.
Audio, unfortunately I'm hearing impaired so I try not to comment on it. I will say that it seems like every other update the volume output changes either up or down. I notice this when I'm connected via BT to my cars radio.
I can't walk and chew gum so I'm not a VR user.
Hellz yeah it is. It's excellent and it's even better than some QHD displays out there like the G6.

I honestly wouldn't worry about the screen resolution, it's fine, honest. On the plus side, the HD+ screen means the GPU has less pixels to push around.
My best advice would be to compare it side by side with other devices in the flesh if you can, that way you can see if you like the colour tone of the screen. I've spent several years using a succession of cheap devices bought directly from China. All of them have had LCD screens rather than AMOLED. I'm finding it very hard to get used to the screen because it looks so yellow whenever looking at anything white. If you want accurate colours (reds and blues accurate) you need to have the screen set to sRGB or DCI P3 and with either of those options whites look very yellow indeed. I've compared my phone to two other 5ts now and they have all been the same. I think I'm gradually getting used to it, but I've had to set the screen colour to 'custom' and as cool possible to get anywhere close to acceptable whites. The downside of this is it comes with very oversaturated reds. When comparing the 5t to the panels on the S8+ and Note, they seem whiter and generally a better panel.
Having said all this, I'm happy with the device in most ways and the resolution is basically fine for me.

I actually find that the Samsung panels that I've been looking at (S8/Note 8/S7) have been generally the same as the 5T as far as whites go (very good), but the S8/Note 8 tends to have reddish whites and the S7 had a greenish white. The 5T was much better.

That's interesting, I wonder if the type of lighting makes a difference? In the shop where I compared them my eyes honestly thought the Samsungs had more pop AND better colours. Their whites were closest to the LCD screen on my old Xiaomi Redmi Note 2. I also felt that the middle range Samsung's had all the same 'issues' as my 5t, i.e. a bit yellow when displaying white backgrounds, and very over saturated reds that look almost scarlet or florescent. I guess it must come down to what each person is used to and how they perceive colour? I'm gradually getting used to the 5t and I really like how it looks when playing a game. Doom 3 looks really lovely on it

I think there are a lot of factors going on. Lighting, personal perception, etc.
I went from the original Oneplus One to the Nexus 6P and now to the 5T. At first, I was also a bit worried that the display on the 5T would be less sharp compared to the 6P, due to the difference in DPI. But when I got the 5T, I could hardly tell the difference. The display was just as good and even brighter and vivid.
Although OP5T screen is beautiful perfect, But if screen is still a concern, LG V30 is a way to go.
I guess only difference is resolution...Pixel counts.

Uhm, no.
The V30 has one of the worst screens of all current (flagship) phones.
The one in the 5T is way, way better.
In direct comparison with the S8 I can tell the difference. But its not to great. Colors and everything else are really similar. Unless you use it for VR its very ok in my opinion.

Can confirm. Had a pixel 2 xl for a few weeks (same LG POLED panel). Brightness uniformity is horrible and whites are very grainy. Don't miss anything about that display.
Hi guys, so i just updated my phone from previous s7 edge tp the lg v30+ unlocked us998 version , just want to share my usage and to help people decide with this phone
so for my background , i am a tech geek phone lover. I always buy used phone since 2010 and always go after cheap high performance phone. My previous phone was mostly samsung , s7 edge, note 4. The last LG phone i was used was lg optimus 2x on 2012, and that's thx to tegra2 hype back then.
Okay, so why i upgrading to my phone because, i want a large new display to play games, ragnarok mobile , anyone? haha and so i listing mi 8 and note 8 to my next target phone back then few months ago. And i was nearly buy the note 8 back then. But the 18,5:9 ratio is turning me off. it was to tall slim skinny screen and thx to the edge it look not to good for my taste. The first time i see a lg v30 is when 3-4 months ago, my friend was using it. The screen is great big and 18:9 ratio looks good and not turning me off, but after reading it have a bad camera 1um pixel, i just auto not to buy this phone back then. Reading news article was my hobby , and that time i read about gcam port than magically make the lg v30 usable, woalah. it actually not look to good when i see the image example on the gcam port review. And the other thing, this thing was cheap for a used one, costly approximately 250 us dollar in my country vs note 8 used which is two times the price. And so my mind was swinging whetever to buy this phone or not. Shortly i brought this phone and sell my s7 edge , LoL
So for my lg v30+ spec is unlocked us998 with oreo. I think i got lucky because the phone is on mint condition with power button like new, giving a strong tactile feedback. i think this was used few weeks than returned, and just got in my hand few months after
okay , lets go enter the review :
Display
So my impression with the display it have a large good propotional 18:9 screen with large SRGB and color space, also with the HDR video support. It easily on par with s8+/note 8 screen and supercede my s7 edge display. On sunny day, the screen have roughly same brightness with my s7 edge display, with s7 edge , slightly have better color and luminance, Other than that the lg v30 display on sunlight is good. For blue shift issue, it's only show up on all white image, so you won't notice it for 99% most of the time except all white image/ui display. it does appear when you see it on all white display and noticeable, but on most daily ui app and games , there's no any noticeable things on my experience. Other than that there's no issue with the screen as ext reviewer said, luminance and brightness is balance and no area is brighter than the other on the screen, like some ext website review said.
On temperature said, the screen does look little bluish, i change the temperature with slider all goes to warmer and turn the blue color to the most left, voila it became very wamer now. I also change the screen to fhd+ to save battery life and performance, and the screen look fantastic, no pixelation can be seen,
Camera
Camera , Camera, the stock camera app for front camera is obviously the worst ever stock camera app i ever use, period. the screen color is very strange, like they have bug on pre prod and no fix. Seriously LG. Most reviewer will judge and said the front camera is terrible, i said yes because of the software, outside software wise, its very good!. Now the back camera using stock app with Oreo is quite good, but it's still hit and miss. Sometimes the image look blur, sometimes it have a great detail on all side of the image. For AI cam, it only bring better colour and exposure from my exp so that maybe a little plus. Changing to googlecamera port is absolutely amazing experience, all low light and good light photo is superb with excellent detail. You can zoom peep to 200% and get nice detail with text clear to readable with almost all lighting condition. Front camera also take a blow with google camera port, there's HDR and a great detail to it, some reviewer said it fix the front camera, i said it makes the front camera look very great with superior HDR color and detail. For video , i wont said much , but as you can read on most reviewer said it have great features that beat other phone. The only annoyance to me is the shaky effect when you walk, not too bad , look s natural but still look strange. The Google camera does fix this a little bit using 1080p and EIS.
Now comparing to s7 edge, the only advantage with my old phone is faster auto focus and high bright photo, other than that the lg v30 is absolutely an upgrade to meeee, the detail photo using gcam on lg v30 beat's quality of s7 edge, any text or image when zoom till 200% is clearer and better due to resolution advante with googlecamera app handling all the processing. For brightness you can play with setting on gcam port + edit brightness to make dark image look brighter as the s7 edge.. Now the s7 edge faster focus is a hit and miss for my exp, sometimes look like you taken a picture on stable but the image appear blurry, this is also the case with gcam, sometimes i need to hold a stable few second to get a good shot that was not blur.
Comparing to my friend s9 plus phone with newest software that contain note 9 camera algorithm, is absolutely great also. the 12 mpx limited res image on s9+ kicked by all the detail that the gcam port given, Sure the s9 plus color and brightness is better than s7 edge, but the gcam photo looks very natural and detailed. Even with telephoto camera lens on s9 plus, the zoomed 200% main camera with gcam still give a good fight, albeit loses on clarity and detail. I even said that my 1/3 prices phone is killing the s9 plus device LoL and he surely tempted
All the above review is using gcam app, with stock lg is a hit and miss. , you need several hit to get a nice pict. Overall with gcam the camera is greatttt
Now front camera wise, the s7 edge have lower aperture and better um pixel size, comparing apple to apple stock camera is absolutely wins to s7 edge, but use the gcam port and you get absolutely amazing image. The s7 edge with beautify off is still applying beautify picture, image doesn't look sharp with smoothing effect going on , this is same behaviour with the lg front camera stock app, only worseeeeee. Using the gcam, the quality is killing the s7 edge front camera, even with superior spec, the s7 edge smoothing the skin makes the image look less sharper vs gcam on lg v30 front camera giving a lot of detail. When you take a image on day light with a lot of strong light on the backgroud the HDR will help you show all detail your backside without any lens flare hiding it, while s7 edge front camera will blow up, if there's too many light and can't see anything. Now comparing the lg v30 front cam with gcam vs note 8/s9 plus camera i think their can have a a par quality, surely the note 8/s9 camera have better resolution, spec and auto focus, but the lg v30 have a very wide angle lens camera, so you can selfie or vlog and show things you want to share on your side with the camera still cover it up for you. So i can say wide angle vs narrow angle, is your choice.
p.s : i didn't post any picture due to limited quota internet bandwith
Battery
The battery life is so amazing, it can easily get 6 hours SOT just like others youtube review said. since 2010 i always buy a used phone and the battery life already drop the first time i use it. The lg V30 is the best smartphone that i buy with very good battery life, the s7 edge only hit around 3-4 hour sot with all efficient setting turn on. Also fast charging temperature is almost low , only 2/3 c higher than standard charging, thx to qnovo adaptive charging tech, usb c technology that make the heat transfer lower than micro usb cable and lg charge tech? it only warm while fast charge. My s7 edge usually become hot while fast charging, easily hit 45c on battery temp, while the v30 hit 39.7 for the highest battery temp.
Loud speaker
The volume quality is very good, just like gsmarena said, loud enough on loud env and clear balance sound, More louder than my s7 edge. While s7 edge speaker gives bass sound effect, the lg v30 speaker is very balanced and clearer, is this due to lg v30 speaker tuned by B&O ? this is still a question with no answer LoL. But i notice that the volume different on 80 vs 90-100% is very huge, when you move to 90 or 100% you get very loud sound, while move to 80% will reduce the vol a lot, i think this is a tweaking done by LG
Audio Quality
One of samsung strengh with music is there is adapt headset app to optimize your earphone, Every people use different headset/iem from the cheapest and the expensive one, using samsung adapt headset program the music quality on s7 edge is great while feel balance. The hifi quad dac on lg v30 does enhance the audio big, it can be felt and the sound become very different everytime i change the eq on the hifi dac mode. For this one as i'm not an audiophile, i give the advantage to lg v30, the only bad thing i need to play with the eq to find the best setting, while samsung one just optimize and play. FYI i'm using c100 jbl , a cheap 6 us dollar iem.
Signal and reception
The phone does have same quality signal reception with s7 edge, but the stepping frequency jump is better. Currently i m using mobile operator with low signal quality on my country, but have cheapest packet for mobile data etc, the signal on lg v30 jump faster per step than s7 edge, this is good to optimize signal and prevent bad signal searching to save battery.
