Mobile network staying on when connected to WiFi... - HTC 10 Questions & Answers

Hi Everyone,
I recently updated my phone and everything seems to be working fine, but I noticed after updating, that when connected to my Wi-Fi, the mobile network stays on, it does disappear. Before the update, if I was connected to Wi-Fi, the 4g LTE indicator would disappear, but now it stays on. Even when I turn off the network, it still stays active.
Does anyone know why this is happening and how to fix it?

That is normal. It is Volte icon.

It's actually just the LTE icon for data and I've even turned off VoLTE and it still stays active

I had that icon using Viper. Switch to airplane mode and it goes away. Get LTE discovery app from playstore. It will show mobile disconnected when on Wi-Fi. Look under network info
Edit: just noticed you also asked in Viper thread as well and got your answer (it's just an icon issue). Lol XDA users.

You guys are funny.
Check Developer Options. There is an option to keep data on at all times to make switching between data/wifi faster and that's what's happening to you.
It's either preset by a MOD in Viper ROM or you somehow toggled it on accidentally. Easy fix.

Actually, you are funny cuz I already checked that toggle and made sure it was off haha. It was actually an icon bug in the Viper ROM I am using. I switched the signal icons from ATT to T-Mobile and the data icon vanished when connected to WiFi.

[Q] Can't enable Mobile Network...help?

Hi guys,
You know how when you enable Airplane mode Bluetooth, Bluetooth settings, 4G, 4G settings, Mobile network, and Internet sharing become shaded and you are unable to turn them on?
Well, for some reason my Mobile Network option is shaded/unselectable, although I am certainly not in Airplane mode. In fact, both mobile network and internet sharing are shaded, yet M.N.'s box has a green checkmark and underneath it says, "Turning on...". Still, it remains like that without any change.
Since this issues has occured, the 3G logo in the status bar has disappeared, which leads me to think that the phone isn't enabling data connections, not that there is something wrong the MetroPCS's end.
The only thing I could think of was that a few days ago, I was playing with turning on/off 4G setting and that I turned off/on the 2G-3G toggle in the Extended controls widget; that however, only directed my to the Mobile network settings where Data Roaming, Data Roam Guard, ect. are all enabled.
What should I do? I tried being as detailed as possible, and hopefully there is a solution as I am getting really tired of no internet on my phone. Thanks for any help.
By any chance to you have an older version of switch pro installed. This caused issues with my mobile network a while back.
If so, uninstall it.

I do not have it install, but I will try uninstalling any app that I have installed in the last week; maybe you are onto the something there. I do have a couple of control/settings/toggle widgets. I'll report back.

[SOLVED] WiFi not working properly? 3G/4G stays on due "My Account" App

So when i am home i have my WiFi on, which means my 4g is off. Now when the WiFi is on, i can not receive or send pictures. Also cant use the web or do anything like that but just send and receive text/calls.. and reason to this? maybe i have certain settings on that i don't know about? If i remember right, my wifi worked properly a few days ago.. but i cant remember exaclty. Help please? Thanks
no one knows?
Power cycle your router?
I've been having a different wifi issue. at home I have only edge coverage but I have petty good cable internet so obviously I want to use my wifi but for some reason the phone connects to wifi yet still uses the mobile network unless I turn off mobile data. My wifi sleep policy is set to never btw. Any ideas?
Sent from my Hercules with xda Premium.
Edit
Also if I turn off mobile data while connected to wifi then turn it on while still connected it stays on wifi fine. Its like the mobile radio is preventing the wifi connection from fully initializing or something
Same issue!

I am having the same issue. I have to go into airplane mode, then turn on wifi to actually be able to use it... otherwise seems to default to mobile radio...
I have the same issue..this is what i do to work around it though:
1. Go to Settings>Wireless and Networks>Mobile Networks
2. Uncheck packet data, and then check it again.
Once i do this, my wifi works again, let me know if it works for you.

yes, does seem to work, but agree it's frustrating.... Hope they fix this soon.
Got this from the battery thread. This actually fixes the wifi issue on my SG2
The program is called Llama and can be downloaded from the market. I deleted all the default events and just added these 2. Hope this helps for all of you with this issue.

Try freezing "my account". It toggles data even with WiFi is on. Try it and let me know.

Actually saw this tread and had Llama installed with these 2 profiles added and was till getting this issue... Going to try Freezing My Account to see if that helps... I know it helped with my wifi issues on my G2x.
Update: Nothing seems to work now. Can't have Wifi and cell radio on at the same time... can get calls but nothing else...
I've seen it occasionally as well. I haven't needed to reboot though. It usually recovers after I toggle WiFi on and off and mess with some other things.

I notice the same issue and I also toggle wifi on and off to get it to work back again.

Same here. I have to toggle wifi on/off and sometimes reconnect through wifi settings to get it back.

Yes, either return or warranty exchange for a new one, I have not noticed this issue with my device at all.
I've been having the same issue and it definitely causes excessive battery drain. Sometimes toggling wifi off then on works. Other times it requires toggling mobile data off then on.
I had it happen just now and tried freezing 'my account' in titanium backup as suggested and my 4g indicator immediately turned off. Sweet! It seems that 'my account' is the culprit!
Edit: I really wish this topic wasn't merged...I think there were a couple 'wifi problem' threads talking about different issues. To clarify, my problem was that while on wifi my 4G indicator would sometimes turn on and consume more battery and (sometimes) force all data to use 4G instead of wifi. Really annoying!

4G LTE icon on with WiFi

Hey guys I was wondering if it's possible to remove 4G icon while I'm on WiFi. I know I can turn off my data but when I'm off of WiFi I have to remember to manually turn data on. I thought this would change automatically. Thanks

My phone is stock. Im on 4.3 so not able to root or unlock. But i figured it out. Its that app that verizon included called Caller ID. I had one of the options turned on. As soon as i turned it off the 4G icon went away.

[Q] WiFi - mobile data switching problem

Since updating my N7100 to 4.4.2, it is not reliably switching between WiFi and mobile data when it should. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. Until I updated it was always !00% reliable.
I found the new setting under the WiFi tab - 'Smart Network Switch', and this is checked.
Has anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions to cure it? The phone isn't rooted and I don't want to do that.

You got to disable Smart Network Switch cause whenever mobile data is stronger than wifi signal (even, let's say for a second) it will disconnect from wifi and vice versa.

Thanks. I'll try that.
It seems that the Smart Switch isn't working as it should because sometimes when I get home I can hold the phone right up to the WiFi router and it still doesn't switch to WiFi.

Normally no need for network switch, only on special occasions when needs continuous connection and wifi isn't that strong whereas mobile is.
If you untick (disable) you will see, that coming home into reach of wifi will automatically change from mobile to wifi. :good:

Mobile data sticks even on Wifi

I'm having this strange issue that I've never before seen on Android. Whenever I'm connected to Wifi, the phone seems to maintain a mobile data connection. Also, I'm on T-Mobile with wifi calling enabled, and it seems to stick to the cellular network even with wifi on. Am I the only one?
Ive got something similar, my battery stats show Wi-Fi is on even though its off. Rebooting the phone sorted it out.

My M8 does this, so I would expect the M9 to do this as well. However the mobile data is not used; the icon for mobile data just stays up. It passes data on WiFi when a WiFi connection is available. The WiFi icon is the only one that comes and goes.
I have unlimited calling so I don't use the WiFi calling, can't comment on that.
My mobile radio stays active even while I'm on WiFi calling. Which, I'm pretty sure the mobile radio should completely turn off..
Mobile data icon stays on as well even without wifi calling, same as you.
I think the stickied mobile data icon is a non-issue, but the fact that it sticks to cellular network, pointlessly draining excess battery (especially in a region with poor network connectivity) when Wifi calling is enabled, is seriously annoying.

Both settings are unchecked, like in your screenshot.
Just got mine too.
Am noticing the same problem. Mobile data stays on.
Hopefully there is a fix coming out?
Figured it out (For T-Mobile WiFi calling variants only)
Go into WiFi Calling settings (there should be an icon in your status bar)
Select the bottom "Do not use Cellular". This will disable cellular when WiFi/WiFi calling is enabled.
Cellular was enabled for calling handoffs (when you leave a WiFi calling area, the call gets handoff'd to the network)

Nah. That solves nothing. I don't want to be disconnected when leaving Wi-Fi. I just want cellular to be off when in Wi-Fi range, which was automatically managed with the same setting on previous phones.

Correct, all that setting does is completely disable cellular. Even if you leave Wi-Fi, or disable it.
On all previous T-Mobile phones with Wi-Fi calling using "Wi-Fi preferred" it would completely disable the cellular radio.
Now, when I have poor signal but am using wifi calling, my phone is constantly searching for signal. Switching between 2g/4g/lte.
Yeah, you guys are correct.
Left home this morning, no Cellular.
Well, shoot...
