Nexus 5X root and warranty - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I'd like to know if you void the warranty, unlocking the bootloader and rooting the Nexus 5X and if the process is completely reversible or not

Warranty stays intact. Yes, the bootloader unlock and root process is reversible.

im assuming you mean that you want to root without unlocking the bootloader..
if you're on 4.0.2 or lower, you can, otherwise, you cannot root without unlocking the bootloader.
Thanks

Questions about warranty

I have to send in the tablet to Asus for repair. Can they detect that I rooted, unlocked the boot loader, and installed a custom ROM if I flash the stock images and relock the boot loader?

No, they can't, as there are no tamper flags on the N7. The only Nexus device that uses tamper flags is the N5, but even those are easily reset.

Great info. Asus claims on the phone they can tell and that warranty will be voided. But many members here claim they've never had any issues with a rejection. Now getting their actual problems resolved is a whole other issue!

Choose unroot from app SU.
But won't I lose the warranty just for rooting?
No

You might for unlocking bootloader if Asus manages to find out a way to detect it, but not for rooting on a locked bootloader.

Nice : thank you all
I just sent in my asus zenfone for warranty repair. I also just unlocked my bootloader. The Sim card was not locking in on Sim 1. Lets see if they know that my bootloader is unlocked.

King root 6.0 does it work?

Has anyone tried the King root method for 6.0? When I Check if root is available it says a method was found I just don't want to risk my phone breaking again
Interesting in curious if this works please update

They have mentioned more than once that root access cannot be obtained on MM unless the bootloader was unlocked !
So, don't get hopes on something that cannot be done ?
