[solution] lg g3 gps not working at any rom - pokemon go - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey, everyone!
I discovered that my GPS wasn't working when I tried to play Pokémon GO. Since then I was trying to find a solution to this, but no one knew. Then I followed this tutorial:
I know it's in spanish, but the process is very simple. It's explained here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=58405832&postcount=8
Before the GPS didn't lock, and now I use GPS Locker and can play the game flawless with GPS locked at 9-10/20.
Hope it can solve your problem too!

Thanks for sharing your experience! I have experimented a lot with D855 GPS (different home made "random" antennas, etc) and for me as well the best solution turned out to simply restore electrical connectivity between mainboard and stock GPS antenna (which, by the way, is diversity antenna for LTE B7 band as well). Probably soon I will make a post with more details on this topic.

Hello DavisNT, i know it's old and all, but could you please elaborate on what you mean by "best solution turned out to simply restore electrical connectivity between mainboard and stock GPS antenna (which, by the way, is diversity antenna for LTE B7 band as well)".
What do you mean by "restore electricla connectivity between mainboard and stock GPS antenna?
Could this be explained by using the D855 servicing manual (https://docs.google.com/uc?id=0ByPDG_y4xLa4Y3RzR256bDExOUk&export=download)?
My G3 is serving me well but I'm almost buying another phone only because my GPS is piss poor compared to other phones in my home (Moto G, Moto E, Zenphone 2, Galaxy Tab 10).
So i would like to save my G3 because it's only issue is the damned GPS.
If you could help me on this i would be very happy
Thanks in advance

I meant just detaching the back panel housing (with GPS antenna), may be cleaning the GPS/B7 div antenna connection with alcohol (I have no idea whether this made any improvements), and putting the phone back together. In my case it helped restoring GPS functionality (with similar or may be a bit better sensitivity then the randm-wire antenna mods I tried).
Anyway - the LG D855 GPS sensitivity is much worse than on many other phones (e.g. Samsung I9300). Besides if Lineage OS (not newest stock ROM) is installed on D855 then it can use only GPS satellites (and no GLONASS satellites) to calculate the location.

VERY poor wifi signal on Universal

Hi,
I am new to Universal (but not to HTC units ), so when I got a used one with a broken LCD last week I was very excited. But after I replaced the display and played around a bit with this toy - I thought it was not worth the hype.
But I got more & more suspicious about its wifi antenna and yes it definitely has some problem. It has 50% of the signal strength a half meter from my wifi router. From three meters it drops to 25%. And after 5 meters it's dead.
I upgraded the Radio stack to 1.14.10, but nothing's changed. Has anybody any suggestion?
The unit was taken apart by the previous owner and it is missing some screws - but all the screws around the antenna is in place...
If somebody needs photos I can post some.
Please advise!
Last state:
QTek ROM
ROM 1.3.77 WWE
Radio 1.14.10
ExtROM 1.30.176 WWE
Cheers
Have you tried going into wireless lan settings, then click on the power mode tab and change to best performance. That should do something. Maybe its set to best battery which would give you crappy performance and range. I am able to log into the internet wifi within my block.
HTC UNIVERSAL wifi power is very very ow i have the same problem and way to solve it. when my laptop says what signal is excelent my ppc cannot connect.

Thank you for your suggestion - now it's in midway position. It should do better - 4 meter is deadly! I have tried out with an Alpine and a Wizard as well and both done a better job!
Can you do me a favour and test it? I measured it at 0.5 m - 1 m and 4 m without _any_ obstruction (no wall whatsoever) between Universal and my router... That is why I suspected a hw failure.
Thanks,
ym

But _that_ low?!?
Very strange however, since both Alpine and Wizard do a better job than my Asus laptop with built in wifi. So this would be a big surprise for me from a HTC unit...
Today I will test it with a Pretec SD wifi card - if this beast let me install the card's driver at the first place
i can use my exec in bed which is 10 meters, one floor and one wall away.
the signal is at about 1/3 strength at that distance which is ok but not as good as my laptop.
have you changed any settings on your wireless base station as this could also be the problem.
Continuing Uni WiFi problem
Sorry to post in an old thread, but there doesn't seem to have been any resolution here. I have the same problem as the OP, in that my Uni will only detect WiFi about two metres from the router unobstructed. Any further, and the Uni loses the signal. My Laptop gets the signal up to 15 metres away, through walls & floors, and my desktop is in another room using the wireless aswell. If it's any use to possible helpers, i'm running KDS WM6, previously standard WM5, and the router is a TP-Link branded thingy.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, it's intensely annoying being unable to use the WiFi functionality on the PDA.
Thanks in advance.
No real help sorry, but my Exec has terrible WiFi performance too. Within a couple of metres of the router it has max signal, but this drops off to 1/2 after 5m. (Laptop still shows full) And anything over 7/8m you may as well forget. Laptop seems to get twice the range. My old HP Ipaq 5xxx series PDA used to get much better perfromance than the exec, but lasted a lot less on WiFi. Maybe HTC have deliberately sacrificed range for battery life? Even with the device set to max performace? I wonder if anyone could do a registry hack to up the power to the WiFi, or would this potentially burn our the device?
Range issue - power of PDA or router?
Thanks for the reply anyway Steve. I reckon my range is even worse than yours - I mean, seriously, I have to be sat right nest to the router to get a signal. As may be apparent, i'm more of a 'consumer' than a developer when it comes to my Exec, but to continue your line of thought, is it an issue with the power coming from the Universal's Wifi, or from the router itself? I imagine if there are very few of us with this problem, then it's down to some poor router setup/cheap hardware on our part...
But yeah, if anyone with a little more knowhow could shed some more light on our problem, i'm sure we would all be very grateful.
Regards
wow i thought i only had this problem, a friend of mine said upgrading might help. any way i've posted a thread about the same problem here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=321872
doesnt it kills you not being able to use the wi-fi in such a device???????

I would bet the Universal, as I've always had the same router, in the same place with every wireless device I've used. The Uni is the worst performing of the bunch by a noticable margin.
Then again, I wonder if it has something to do with where the WiFi antenna is in the Uni itself? If the phone is pointing the wrong way the the phone itself blocks the signal? Every other device I have used has an external antenna (even the Ipaq)...
Hmm help needed from some experts here me thinks!
Expert Help needed, I agree
I doubt it's anything to do with the orientation of the antenna in the device, my lappy has an internal antenna and gets the signal just fine. Also, to add to the list of 'working' wireless devices, even my Nintendo DS picks up the signal throughout the house... Does radio version have anything to do with Wifi reception? I'm using 1.10 - y'reckon I should try 1.18 see if that helps? Rhetorical question, sorry - I'll TRY 1.18 and let you know if it helps.
Regards
not only poor wifi signal, the gsm signal also poor at uni, any solution of the gsm signal become stronger??

I used this one and some Pics of the Backcover to look where the contacts from GPS Antenna are.
now GPS Problems again :/
Replaced my LCD (was broken), all worked fine, but this week i needed GPS and i saw that it didn´t work.
I thaught ok, i already had contac Problems, so i soldered 2 wires to the GPS Antenna, but still no GPS Signal
Then i thought its Kernel related, so i reinstalled ROM (without Wipe) and the Stock Kernel. (ARHD 19.2) but still no GPS..
I deleted AGPS Data, no GPS also ((
Now i don´t know what to do, or test now :/
I measured the wires from One X Board to GPS Antenna, all ok, soldered good.
I have no idea what i can do now, but i want really a working GPS :crying:
no one has such silly problem like me???
How can i test if GPS works properly and its just a AGPS Problem?!?
How can i test GPS Antenna and the Hardware without getting a Sattelite??
The only thing i am sure is that the Antenna has contact to the Board, because i soldered 2 Wires in...
The antenna is is the same concact, so both wires are connected to the one contact antenna, right?
don´t know where the problem is
but im sick of searching, all things i thought could be didn´t help till now...
changed base, changed kernel, soldered wires directly to antenna and and and.. now i have no ideas
Even though you say you are sure you have soldered the wires in correctly, it sounds to me like a hardware issue as opposed to anything else. On my old hd2 my touchscreen broke and I sent it to a repair shop, had it fixed but then a week or so later had no gps, couldn't get it to work no matter what. My guess was that maybe one of the wires had been snipped when they had put the case back, I couldn't prove it without taking the back off, which I wasn't prepared to do. Can you not send it in for repair?
Sent from my HTC ONE X
if i send it to repair, they only can change motherboard or antenna, right? The price for this will be a new One X i think, so thats not rentable for me. But soldering something in and out should not be a problem for me, but i want to know whats not working, The Antenna i cant Mesure if it works correct or not, right?!? If its a Software Problem, i don´t know what i can do to solve it.
I tested, then after long time, GPS Test showed me 3 Satelites for 1 Second and then again nothing and nothing and nothing...
So what would be great, if i can look or do something to be sure its software or hardware related....
I even shortened all wires to let them very short, the are max. 3-4 cm long (Wifi. GPS, and 3G)
So i wired connectors top left, top right and middle down...
But on one side in near of NFC connectors (they are bigger) there are also 2 small connectors, for what are they? Should i wire them too??
Are there any things i can do, like delete some files or reset something, delete cache of definited apps or somewhate else? Reflash Rom with FULL Wipe, also didn´t work
AW: GPS dead?!? No GPS Signal
Is there any manual what connectors to check such are used for GPS? The 2 on the antenna I know, but perhaps there is a flat cable such is not connected good? And where can I buy a new antenna, I didn't find one yet.

AW: GPS dead?!? No GPS Signal
Nobody knows?
Sent from OneX using ARHD
yaaaaaaaaay, it finally works
after flashing to stock with full wipe, trying other kernel, other baseband, did different soldering tries (with cable, without cable) and nothing helped, i was shortly before to sell the one x (not really, but i was angry about it) and i tried lot of apps and gps.confs.....
resetted x times agps data etc, nothing helped...
then i tried GPS Aids from playstore and tadaaaaaaa -> now GPS works....
if i found it earlier, it would have saved me a lot of nervs and time and angryness ^^
what files are responsible for GPS? I played around a little bit, but now i have no Satellites again, and i tried all i did before, i tried different gps.confs and different ntp servers, no succes...
what files can i change again the stock ones to test if it works without a full wipe?
i didn´t think that the GPS is actually such complicated ^^
makes me crazy
AW: GPS dead?!? No GPS Signal
?
Sent from OneX using ARHD
is it possible to solder a bridge between the 2 Contacts responsible for GPS on the Board? So that even if one contact has contact to the Antenna, the other one also has... Because the Antenna also is only one Contact, so they are bridged there, or do i understand something wrong?
hm, nobody knows?
so i think i have to live without GPS
I'm also having issues with gps.. i get 0 maybe 1 sattallite with gps test.Running ARHD 21.0
is there a way to test if its problem with contacts on the motherboard (similar to sqeeze test for wifi) ?
I dont want to open my phone (its pain in the a**)
I hope there is a solution for our problem, would be great but at the moment I dont know what we can do. The only think what I didn't test was to flash stock ruu....
Sent from OneX using ARHD
Later on i even opened the phone and putted some solder to the contacts for the gps antenna and yet the result is the same. I don't think it's hardware, becouse i would't get any sattalites at all,
but i do get sometimes 1 sattalite (no fix to it though). So gps hardware itself probobly isn't defected, so it must be a software issue of some kind.
@W0RSCHD
yeah try the stock rom and report back...
The solder I already did, and tried lot of gps apps and installed Rom with full wipe, all doesbt work. I also sometimes get one sat. But only for a second or two then it loose it and then it doesn't find any sat.
At the moment I have no time to test with ruu, so I have to live without GPS or hope that someone has a solution for it.
Sent from OneX using ARHD
it looks like we have the exact same problem....
hopefully a fix will come someday ..

Where are wifi Antenna or plan of motherboard

good morning,
Sorry, it's from google translate.
What is the connector on the bottom when you removed the battery cover, it looks like wifi connector on the pc?
I asked for help I especially like to know where is the wifi antenna when you remove the screws, it is very important:
On my Galaxy S4 mini there 3 antennas in the upper left, one on the top right and bottom left 2 and 2 in the lower right.
Which is why, is the nfc, gps, wifi, the BLUETHOOT? not sure, the antenna of the phone network.
It is very important you could told me, Where is the wifi antenna please?
I'm trying to change the wifi antenna, if you know how to recognize the wifi chip is also well thank you very much.
Watch this video. Here the man disassembles s4 mini and explains every part of the assembly.

In the video, at ...
2:37: "This contains a few antennas"
2:40: "4G"
2:41,2:42: "Wi-Fi"
2:43,2:44: "and GPS"
Search the FCC documents regarding the RF exposure levels. It might help.

[Q] Service Bars

Yesterday I replaced ad USB board (as an old one become faulty and I have had problems with charging the phone). I can confirm I used the appropriate board model.
Today I noticed that my service bars are not as good as they used to be. Generally in the room I usually used to talk and have weak 1 bar service, right now I have no service. I tested my phone outside as well and have a feeling like the phone has no as good perception as it used to have. Another words the service bars wen down everywhere about 20% or so. Phone works fine and I see no other problems. I wonder is there might be something that affects the service bars hardware-wise ? Any ideas appreciated.

The antenna. I think we have 2, one for GSM and one for LTE.
Google for a picture with exact location and try to re-tighten them.
That's all I can think of.

Thanks for suggestions. Yes the one for GPS works fine as I have no problem with GPS (that is the one on a foil. The one for connecting to the tower is a straight wire. This wire goes from the little board (with USB port I've replaced) to the MB. I reopened the phone today and removed the antenna cable. Tested for continuity - OK, cleaned the connectors but still not luck.
I wonder if this could be some compatybility issue or deffective USB board. The board shows T889 rev1.0 so it sound like it's one of the first ones. Unfortunately I made a big mistake (to late) and thrown away old board. It had a problem with the USB post but there was no problem with the signal strength. I wonder if it is common for the usb board to go bad or if there is anything else I could possibly check. I ordered new antenna cable and thinking about getting another USB board, but if this will not fix the problem I'm clueless. I also restored the phone to factory settings to make sure it is not software problem. I need to use this phone daily at work and I'm really pissed off with the problems. PLEASE HELP
Thank you - ARTHUR
Just a question, ,, have you tried flashing the modem? Not sure it would help but maybe rewriting the radio files will help you.
Good luck

GPS - Problem

Hello guys, I have a really big problem from a while. Actually im not shure from when, but I noticed hat when I tired to use Note as navigation. Problem is that then phone find satelites, lock GPS signal for a while and then starting to loosing signal, resarching locking witch interwals around 5 second and finally shut down for a while.... so for job as navigation is not a best option. I was trying to find any kind of hardware bug. I cleane all antena, motherboard, replace even whole parts including putting different motherboard for testing - yeah I know I should make a copy, but changing board was looking a quicker option.
So I get to point when I know it isnt be a hardware problem... so where I should look for a solution?

Hi, this is due to the Broadcom BCM4752 chip used by Samsung and it occurred after 6 april 2019 GPS rollover. Samsung could fix this with fixed firmware, but Samsung didn't, and I guess Samsung won't. Most of the Note 2 series use this chip, and if there is no firmware update, there is no chance but to continue using it with a GPS signal losing problem.
We have discussed this issue in detail before, please read what is written in the thread below, it will help you. :good:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-2/help/gps-problem-losing-satellites-t3923474
Thanks for such a quick reply, yeah I read it however I was hopping this is not the case... well still my two other devices work without problem, if such kind of problems appear I just reboot them and this resolvr problem. One of those devices work on Jelly Bean android... im wondering if this could be a solution? Anyone check that allready maybe?
