Hi all, is it okay to back up system apps from Marshmallow and reinstall via Titanium backup on Android N? I had problems once with an old phone when backing up and installing custom ROMS and this was the issue.
Never reinstall backups of system apps.
It's as simple as that.

As someone already said, just don't backup and restore system apps. And especially when you're going from one version of Android to another. A lot of he system apps are different or newer on Android N than they are on MM. You would probably just get a lot of force closes.

I'm just curious on how people generally restore their device with their previous apps/settings e.c.t after flashing a new rom.
For example, I intend to flash AndroidNow to my G3 and run it for a few weeks and then flash Cyanogen. Does that mean I have to start afresh and re-download all my apps and everything after the install? Is there an easier way of doing everything?
I would appreciate any help

There are applications like Titanium Backup or in our phone just for the stock roms we have LG Backup.
If you're installing a new version of the same ROM, it's generally safe to restore APPs and APP data. It's never a good idea to restore system settings after flashing ROMs. And if you're flashing a ROM that's significantly different (such as stock-based to AOSP, or even between two different variations of AOSP ROMs), I wouldn't recommend restoring app data, either.
I'm just wondering, If I backup my tab (data files, apps, etc.) using CWM, then flash CM12, can I advance restore my apps and data files into it without problems? Im afraid I don't want to download again all of my apps after installing CM12..

Most likely not. Pretty much any other base (you didn't say what you were coming from. CM11?) going to CM12, migrating user data like that (same as a "dirty flash") will cause major issues (not booting into OS is the likely result).
Just use Titanium Backup to migrate your apps and app data. That worked fine for me going to CM12.

I forgot, I came from stock. By the way, I decided to download again the apps that I needed. Thanks anyway for the info.

Going from Sense to CM12, its definitely a bad idea to try to migrate data. Downloading the apps again is certainly an option; although a cumbersome one, and of course this just restores apps and not the app data (may or may not be a big deal in your case). For anyone flashing ROMs, I'd recommend checking out Titanium Backup for very reliable and easy backup and restores of apps and app data. And its worth it to pay the few dollars to get the Pro key to unlock all the features, including the batch functions, which allow you to backup and restore all your apps (or filter as you like) with just a few taps.
In particular Titanium Pro can extract apps and app data from Nandroid backups.
Hello, i'm about to flash untouched rom on my htc 820. Just to make a system update. The problem is that i have so many apps installed right now and i have installed xposed framework and made many tweaks. is there any way i can backup all these to restore later? i mean both apps and settings from within the apps.

Thanks i just thought it wouldnt work with backing up xposed framework apps.
So I recently reverted from CM13 (Marshmallow) back to 5.1.1 on Kyubi's rom. I made a ton of backups on TB in CM13 but when I go to restore them in Kyubi they hang at 0% and never load. Is this an incompatibility between the two OS's or is there something obvious that I'm forgetting to do? I could have sworn I was about to backup 5.1.1 apps and load them in 6.0, why couldn't I do it the other way around?
Thanks in advance.

You generally don't want to use Titanium backup to restore your apps from one operating system to the other.
I'm afraid you'll have to suck it up and reload your apps again.
Hi everyone,
I'm going to flash oxygen os since most of the problems have been solved.
Does anyone know a way to backup apps and data, i tried titanium backup, but it seems that it can only backup but fails to restore them. Thanks in advance
Titanium backup worked fine for me. But other app I know is Helium Backup. But it is a super old app not sure if it's working perfectly. Worked for some of my apps.

Swift Backup
OnePlus Clone Phone app if you have a spare OnePlus/Oppo phone.
It's not a backup/restore app, but it can copy apps and their data - something which is not possible without root any more.
I would use apps' built-in feature to backup, if available, before relying on Titanium/ Swift, etc. What use is a backup that cannot be restored?
In my case, there aren't too many apps that need an offline backup, so it works for me. If you are flashing a new ROM, it is better to setup everything fresh than restoring from 3rd party backups.
