Durability of Nexus 5x's screen - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys,
I haven't found any drop tests of N5x, just I found scratch tests and the phone survivals them.
Has your phone ever dropped? How high it was? I just want to know if is it worth to buy a bumber or not. My nex just falled down once from about 0,5 m on the floor and the frame on the screen is a little bit bent, but you can see it only when you are looking very long and close at the phone.
Bests

I've dropped my phone a handful of times but everytime was in a TPU case with tempered glass screen protector. Heights were usually waist high to tile, concrete, carpet. No signs of any damage anywhere.
Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk

Probably depends where it falls. I dropped it on a rocky ground from very little height and it cracked, also my camera glass is cracked or scratched too.

I've dropped mine twice. The first time from 4' (1.25 m). The only damage was a small scruff on the top corner. The second time (an hour ago) from 6" (15 cm) and the screen cracked. It all depends on where it hits.

Thank you for your replies.
I think the most dangerous is drop on the screen edge, because forces are spreading on less surface So screen cracks
Okay, so I will buy something to protect my N5x (never used anything on my all phones tho).
What do you think, better to buy Rhino bumper or normal case?

Protection is must as the plastic on this phone, specially the sides, is very soft and can dent very easily

So i was thinking about Rhino bumper, it looks very stabil.
But I don't know if still camera will protrude out of the bumper, it's also a point I'm looking at because I don't want to have cracked my camera

I've seen the Rhino bumper and even though it's "just" a bumper, it's pretty thick overall. I still prefer a TPU case like a Cruzerlite or Pleson. It keeps the height, width, and thickness to a minimum.

I'd rather choose something what keeps original look of Nexus, something like this case https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B0...us+5x+case&dpPl=1&dpID=51g1mxqnCML&ref=plSrch
But not this, something what protects phone and is transparent and keep camera safe from cracking.
Any ideas?

Yup that's the one. Got it back on June 10. Camera does not protrude. The TPU is protecting it so you can lay it flat on the back without worries.

Plastic means it can absorb damage without breaking. If it bends, it bends back to where it was unless it cracks.
Perhaps you're confusing plastic with metal? Metal phones bend and dent easily, and they are permanent.
I've dropped mine a few times in hard tile floor and nothing but minor scuffing on the corner. This device will not break easily, similar to other light plastic devices which have been proven to do well in a fall such as the Galaxy S4.

Just a quick PSA: Dont buy a replacement display from fixez.com. They are used and will have some kind of issue such as unresponsive touchscreen or lines across the screen. The company also wont reimburse you for shipping so you have to pay to return a faulty item they sent you. You have been warned.

If it was a metal phone such as the 6p, it would be bent and the glass probably would crack due to the stress.

Back cover scratching/staining?

I always use a gel case on my galaxy s yet the back cover still has scratches and sort of smudges which don't go away. It's hard to explain. How do I get rid of them? Where can I get a different range of back covers?

If you're using a case and the battery cover now has scratches, I'd probably blame the case. It could be rubbing against the battery cover and scratching it.
You can purchase battery covers on eBay. Just search! They should be fairly cheap. If you find any good ones, post the links.
Same problem here.
I have to clean up silicone case and battery cover everyday to avoid scratches.

It's probably just the material of the case, as I'm sure not everyone with a case on their phone has to worry about and deal with this.
Personally, I don't use a case and have zero scratches on my phone, screen or body.

Yep. This is exactly what's happening.
It's not just scratches though. On the pattern bit in the battery theres some sort of staining. It's hard to explain what it is. l suppose it looks like dried glue

anyone use screen protector?
I am using the screen protector and I can say that it is very first thing a man should do to the phone. It is very hard to put one, as the smallest piece of dirt (between the screen and protector) is seen as big bubble ... Order the cheapest ten pack from Ebay because you will destroy couple of them before you install it perfect.. I had those on my sgs for year, and it was scratched as hell..

I don't think it's grease because it simply does not come off. And the corners of the screen always attract dust

Well if it doesn't come off, what the heck did you put on your phone? Maybe it's a questonably cheap case and some weird plastic/rubber/alien residue from it has stained your phone? Provide pictures maybe?
Sounds strange, especially since you can't clean it off.
It looks like dried up snot lol but it isn't. I can't be the only one who also finds that the screen attracts too much dust especially in the corners and edges

I don't notice dust at all on my device, ever (unless I'm in working in a really dusty place, which happens, but I generally don't have my phone on me when I am). This could be just a geographical difference though.
Fingerprints are another story. Those are annoying. Dust, however, I don't even notice.

The Sgs screen is gorilla glass which is scratch proof so does not need a protector.
It is possible to scratch with the right tool but the pressure needed will go straight threw any protector too.

I took the cover off and scrubbed it with a little soap,no effect.
If you look closely, you can see that those places are somewhat 'eroded',like somethings eaten away at it.
Maybe moisture build up?

Note II's chrome bezel scratches real easy?

I've had a case on my note II ever since purchase, when I took it off, I see tint scratches around the phone. Is it just me or are others are experiencing the same thing?

Yup -- it is what it is.
Mine scratches easily and has flaked off in some spots like near the head phone jack.
I didn't bother with skins I figured after the glue hardened it would pull the paint off anyways if I tried to remove it so I don't see the point.
Cases are enough for me as I can't see it anyways with one on.
Stop worrying, it will happen some way or another and enjoy your great phone!

On my previous phone (an Infuse), I had cracked chrome near the micro-USB jack. But my Note 2, after almost three months so far, with no case, has no scratches on either the glass or the chrome.
I belive it is in the design. Samsung intended it to be soft plastic in order to absorb shock. So any lil bump can nic the paint off.
I put my Skinomi on as soon as I got it. Sooo, hopefully not.
Yea mine has a few battle scars. I wish that samsung would up their build quality a bit. Coming from an HTC Inspire (Milled Aluminum Body) the cheap plasticy feel was quite a shock. But overall I love the phone and eventually got over all the plastic.

[Q] Cracked Glass Over Camera...

I was looking at my phone the other day and noticed the little square glass piece over the camera is cracked. I'm not sure at all how this happened since I have not dropped the phone and it always stays in the otter box case. Has anyone had this happen before? It does not appear to affect the image quality but is there a suitable repair for this, could I use another material other than glass.
I don't know that that's even glass over the camera, pretty sure it's a thin piece of plastic

It is definitely glass for it to crack the way it did.
Well regardless. Just looked over eBay, and around a few repair sites and I couldn't find anything besides replacing the whole back cover which has the camera lens included. And that would be between 45-60 dollars

Google Official bumper case question

I have the black case. Zero issues except it's a oil/finger print magnet. I use my old nexus 4 orb to charge and it leaves a ring on the case. And my OCD goes crazy. All this can be easily cleaned daily. But i can't help but think the grey version wouldn't have this issue. Are the light versions oil/fingerprint magnets? Any official bumper case guys in here. Should i just stock to black? In don't wear jeans. So the Jean stains i heard about don't concern me.
And fyi i have no interest in 3rd party cases.

I have the "red' one, which is definitely bright orange not even close to red and if i look hard at it, i can see a little smudge here and there, but hardly anything, even under intense light.

I don't wear jeans either and my gray case is stained.
I have a light gray bumper and I can't say that mine particularly attracts fingerprints or oil. Mine isn't stained either, but I've only been using it regularly for a week. It does however flake and peel as some people have posted about on here.
The orb also tends to leave a slight ring on the case despite my fairly fastidious cleaning of the orb. The ring seems to be less prominent on the gray case than on my black Nexus 7 2013. I'm able to wipe the residue off of my case with a microfiber cloth fairly easily. The new Nexus charging pick seems to leave no residue on the great bumper. I hope that helps.

Anyone using Ghost Armor?

I really like the feel of the Nexus when it's naked but I want at least some minimal amount of protection. I own a Spigen slim fit case but the sharp corners really bother me, and a Neo Hybrid but I feel it's just a little too bulky for my liking. I was wondering if anyone out there has a ghost armor skin applied on their Nexus and how it's holding up?

I cant speak from experience but if you expect ghost armor to withstand falls, don't. You are essentially just wrapping the phone in plastic that will withstand scratches and chips. As long as you baby your phone you should be fine. Hope this helps

Agreed with your thoughts here as long as you baby your phone you should be fine........dat was really cool one... as wrapping it up in plastics wont protect it completely...
I have been using Ghost Armor for a while now, had it on my OG Evo and my Epic 4G Touch and it is a very nice skin. The recently "upgraded" their film and when I got the new film on my SII I was very impressed. It was extremely smooth and had almost no orange peel to it.
If you are going to get a skin for the front and the back I would try and get the "Matte" finish for the back of the N5. I had the clear front and matte back on my OG Evo and I loved how it looked and felt, the matte back feels better than the clear back does.
with the nexus logo on the back, i wouldn't cover it with these unless you know it has a cutout of some sort. especially using clear. it will bubble due to the air pocket of the logo.
want a skin? dbrand
