which rom (and messenger) to use? - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
Please help me. I'm tired of MM, went back to Lolli and google play services is still eating a big part of my battery. I have 2 gmail accounts and facebook + messenger. All syncs are off, only the one for mail is on.
I noticed that google play seevices appear mostly when I'm on mobile data. And I don't know why, a nice while ago it was nowhere and I had 4.5hrs of sot in general, now it reaches 3hrs mostly.
Since we didn't have a lot of options for modded roms in the early life of the G4 and honestly I didn't really need one, cause it was flawless, (Sometimes I could reach 6hrs of sot using opera mini) now I'm lost and my question is: which ROM should I flash, that's clean and got rid of all of these sh*tty google stuff? The best would be a kdz version.
Or what sould I delete/disable etc? It's fvc*ing annoying.
And one more question, messenger is also a battery hog, and it wasn't like this before, and I don't really use it that much. Any ideas which version was better? Sadly I hate using it from browsers, chat enabler and fb lite are also awful for me.
I like this phone, and I don't want to sell.it, but the good battery performance is really.imortant for me, I'd like that 4,5hrs of SOT back.

to get rid of messenger.. you can use the latest beta or stable version that has built in messenger facebook app but no video call or voip calls. just facebook app with no messenger.

I'm trying it out, thanks.
What about the ROM?

i dont know am on stock rom with locked bootloader.

i use social media vault pro app . 5 mb app and inbuilt features are Facebook with inbuilt messanger +google plus + flickr + twitter and all other social apps you cant even imagine.
I am using CAMUX v3 ROM ( Mine device bootloader is locked , so i do not have other options) which is smooth and xposed and V4A preinstalled . Battery life is not that good 3:30 hrs SOT but i am quite happy because i am not a heavy user.

Yeah that is good in my view. On my G2 i was getting about 5:30 hrs sot (KK) & about 4:30 hrs sot on LP after using exposed and Kairi awesome kernel (Standby time 30-40 hours). on the other hand in G4 we have to deal with a larger screen with increased PPI density .i think Its good if your standby is >20 hrs. Everybody knows G4 sucks in battery management section so it is not a big deal.

[Survey] Don't like MotoBlur.. add a post in here

hey guys.. i'd like to contact motorola and tell them ...
-> what a great phone they built (DEVY) but I also want to ask them
-> what they hell did they tried to do when building MotoBlur? and why they don't create anything more appropriate for such a great phone?
so it came into my mind.. just to get a number of people.. (just the number - no nick- no realnames) which agree to my opinion.. to tell them, that I'm not alone... :=)
a plan?
best regards,
-
I Like the idea behind motoblur, but i think it could have been implemented better. Also, i have a suspicion that Motoblur is the reason that we wont be getting android 2.2 unti Q2 next year, and thats a terrible thing :O. If they could speed up the android updates then i would love it :L
Well, after spending 3 years with iOS and 5+ months using SenseUI Motoblur came as a real shock. How a company can spend so little on software development/support in this day & age is beyond me?
It's like they got halfway through, realised it was rubbish/pointless and stopped. Mixing stock menus/calander app etc with the ropey launcher/lock screen/'my first widget' design is very confusing.
Still, at least the multi touch keyboard is good and errr.. DLNA and wifi hotspotting I guess.

I know what you mean lol. The thing with the wifi hotspot app though is that it makes you doubt if you can use it. I turned it on and it said to make sure my network allows it??? , This part of motoblur caused a bit of a panic haha. The swype keyboard is brilliant but it took me a while to understand how it works haha
Blur is generally crap especially the launcher, however some of the apps - the email app for instance for me is very good, its the best email app I've used.

but i have to confirm.. and also explain i also do like some apps the music app, the gallery, the keyboard (like sarge78 told us above) works perfectly -- the text when a new word is added to the user dictionary stays a little bit toooooooooo long , but typing is perfect...) so some applications are really great.
but the whole theme^^ really strange..
(i also like the general design, black and the red background when something is pressed.. but one thing the sms button on a contact, is big enough but I think it's optimized for chinese people, or at least the smallest fingers in the world out there )
Gosh, Captain America! Is this poll loaded or what!?
I feel divided for Blur.
The launcher is not bad, but there's better elsewhere... lot better.
I don't use all the social stuff (don't have facebook or twitter account, etc) so I can't really say if it's good or worst than a stock android.
But I like some apps loaded with Blur: DLNA, Voicecall, music player, etc
What I really dislike: all the blur services automaticly loaded even I don't want to use all this stuff...
I want the choice to load what I need

This! I like my new Defy. but I hate that i starts lots of stuff that I don't want/use. I don't care about the stuff that come preloaded but don't start because the phone got loads of space for my apps
I definitely have mixed feelings about Blur. Some of it I really love, but it bogs so much and in the end I would rather not have it if everything is going to run so slow and our updates are going to take so long. All in all the defy is a great device, but if Moto doesn't step it up this time with updates I am done after this.
Voted dislike. The very first app I downloaded was LauncherProPlus. Bye Bye blur!

Quoted for great justice.
I just don't use Blur, which would be fine and wouldn't bother me either way, if only it didn't insist on loading all it's processes anyway.
Uhh just checked the number of processes motobloat is running...
52!
My stock desire is running 28... No wonder it lags so badly at times.
+1 for installing a different launcher (LauncherPro for me, thanks!) as the first thing after getting the phone
Dear MotoBloat: Please go to hell.
If I ever meet the guy who approved Motoblur I'll tear out his kneecaps with a rusty... no wait... I'll force him to use a stock Motorola phone for 24 hours! MUAAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!

personal preference i suppose, the stock android email app doesn't let you move mails between imap folders the blur one does, thats something i need.

Have you tried adding your email(s) to Gmail? I have done that for all my other email address', and it works great. I only have to check one inbox to get all my emails from four different screen names. I use @Gmail, @AOL, @Hotmail, and @MSN.com. If you have to reply, or forward from one of your other address's you can choose to send from Gmail, or the one that it was sent to. You can also tag them, so you know what email is what in your inbox. Very handy.

yeah done that in the past. i only really use 1 email account with various aliases (blueyonder.co.uk). Via gmail i could view my mails but wouldn't be able to file them/transfer between my imap folders. i suppose i could just create imap folders in gmail but cant be arsed lol. Cheers for posting the tip.
oh and i dont need push email really, a check once every 30 mins is good for me
Great hardware but after several months with 2.2 on my magic, 2.1 with motoblurp on the defy is a big disappointment give me stock android 2.2 any day.

Missing Email Widget

Hi
Picked up my new Tab S 84 just under a week ago and am v pleased with it. Can't believe how things have changed / improved in Android tablets since the Galaxy Tab 10.1 (loved that too!)
Anyway, I use the tablet mostly for work so emails, documents, remote working etc. I noticed that the native email widget is missing despite me having several email accounts setup on the device. is this normal? seems odd given that every Android device I've owned thus far has had this widget and I'd really like to use it.
Also, the tab s has IR built in but where's the app? I also use a galaxy S5 which has both of the above and works fine.
I'm wondering what else is missing!?! had also thought about a reset to see if that helps.
Another thing. I've got the LTE version and the battery life tho ok doesnt give that same 'oooo this is lasting forever' feeling like my old WiFi only Tab 10.1 and ipad 3 despite having very similar standby times. I have not ran any scientific tests tbh here.. but have decided to turn off 'mobile data' as I don't use it a great deal atm. hopefully this will improve things
Any thoughts on the above would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Thanks re WatchOn. Just discovered that this week.
I have also discovered the location of the missing widgets.
If you scroll to the left to access the Magazine UI. You can either add an extra page here and add special widgets including s planner and email widgets us other stuff or delete each magazine section by holding ur finger on them and replacing them with a widget or an app.
It's actually quite neat. Got mine looking good atm. Tho I like this I don't know why Samsung removed the option for us to create a traditional widgets for email and S planner etc..seems a bit of a daft move.
As for the battery life.. Ive simply switched off data whilst am not using it. Had a good 4 hour spell on it last night doing some work with only WiFi on. It dropped about 25% which I didn't think was too bad overall.
I'm still monitoring this though.

here u go guys...the new V2 of my SuperSamsung rom which works with all tab s versions includes the ability to use stock widgets in any launcher as well as on the lockscreen (see post #2 in the link below for a screenshot)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/development/rom-supersamsung-v1-t2847070
as far as battery life...long story short u want to use apps with as much black as possible which saves major juice versus white pixels. i'm using dolphin browser with a night add-on (renders pages black) for my internet needs since most of the drain comes from the white backgrounds while wondering around on the web ...there have been test done elsewhere online that shows this thing has the worse battery life when it comes to surfing (like 6/7) hours while it has hands down the BEST battery life when it comes to watching movies (around 14/15 hours unbelievably!)

A Question Before I Buy Amazon Fire Phone

i have a question, i am planning to buy this phone but i am very much relying on google stuff these days , i made a back up of almost everything on google , this phone does not have google store but i heard i can install google store in it and it works like a charm .. i don't know if i would be able to get my android games saved progress or will i have to start the games from amazon store all over again . does it have apk system ? what about my contacts on google , will they sync with the system contacts ?
thank you
any tips would be appreciated
hi there,
most stuff from "original google" will probably work.
save games should also if you backup your data and restore the folder on the fire back (after APK installation/google store install). Saved states from google play also work.
Some differences appear in fire system ui but this is not a strange thing. Replace the fire starter with nova launcher e.g. and all is good
Contact/calendar from google acc will also work as usual.
nice day

Thank you :laugh::good:
my general recommendation is Don't buy this phone. my reasons are:
-You are stuck on Andriod KitKat while world prepares for Android N(7.0)
-No current/ further software support.
-Yes you will get google services and everything but they are not reliable. My phone doesn't gives me essential notifications on Whatsapp and messenger until i manually open them and check it.
-Camera doesn't matches the Quality you will find in newer phones.
-Battery life is not Great, 2400 mAh doesn't guarantee a full day.
-its bulky, you dont want a brick in your pocket but upside, this phone is solid af.
-Anyone who sees this phone is going to ask "are all those Front cameras?" and your whole life will be consumed in explaining its 3d features.
-if you think Installing CM11 will smooth the software part(atleast) then you are wrong, Everything works great but camera doesn't, photos taken with Flash are overexposed(there is a work around though) and most of the apps can not use camera, even i was not even able to scan QR code for Whatsapp web because it will just crash and snapchat never worked aswell.
-if you are thinking i will get SnapDragon 800 in few bucks , this is what i thought too but the headaches it bring is not worth SD800.
-if you already have a phone and you want a secondary phone, it still isn't worth it. Probably get Nexus 5 which offers much better solutions.
This is my experience and honest Advice.

-Battery life is not Great, 2400 mAh doesn't guarantee a full day. true, but depends...
-its bulky, you dont want a brick in your pocket but upside, this phone is solid af. true but sadly there aren't many truly smaller phone today, except iphone SE or z5 comapct, which are pricey

-if you are thinking i will get SnapDragon 800 in few bucks , this is what i thought too but the headaches it bring is not worth SD800. they are annoying, but if you play many games, adreno 330 and HD display it's a great combo. then it will eat battery life. but none the less it is not reliable.
-I think investing in SE or Z5 compact is better than keeping an old phone.
-I think Nexus 5x is great performer for its price. SD808 Adreno 418, was for $250.
-I also use it as my primary phone and i too will happily use it as secondary if i dont sell it.( although i dont like the concept of secondary phone, better to invest in 1 then having 2) , if someone have an option who is looking for secondary better get Nexus 5, which got the same specs and Android Marshmallow out of box.

Are you by any chance using x messenger privacy xposed module? I've been having messenger crashes for months and it got really bad, but when I uninstalled x messenger privacy it got a little better. Messenger still crashes but it's maybe once a day.
All is 100 % stock..
