I always struggle to find a stock kernel with just no-force encryption and dm-verity disabled for the 5X.
Can anyone point it out to me please?
Yes. They are over at this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-5x/general/4-17-16-t3360574
Look in the general section there's one in there

I've been playing with a few of the kernels available for 4.2.x so far and wanted to get back to the stock kernel in between testing kernels out. Also good for those who may have accidentally flashed a 4.1.2 kernel. This is a flashable CWM 4.2 Galaxy Nexus JOP40C kernel. Tested and working on my stock/rooted 4.2/4.2.1 GNex. As always, flash at your own risk.
Thanks to kalo86 for providing the AOSP ROM 4.2 zip where the boot image came from. :good:

Thank you. This is definitely very helpful for people like me who aren't aware that custom kernel wouldn't be backwards compatible.
However, I'm using nexus 7, just wondering how could I extract the stock kernel from the nexus 7 factory image?
(I understand that this isn't a nexus 7 post but I'm just asking a general question on how to get the stock kernel hope that's ok)
I assume this kernel wouldn't work for my device either?
Thanks in advance.

Good question. I will create a stock kernel flash for the Nexus 7 (as I have one as well) and post it up there in the N7 XDA forum.
Also, the kernel is the boot.img file located in the zip for ROMs. You can fastboot install it, or make it into a CWM file which is good in case you don't have a computer with ADB nearby. Link to N7 Stock kernel:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34254473
Thanks!
Thank you for ur reply. Definitely gonna save me lots of time!
How do you make it a cwm file? Just zipping the .img file?
Also, I can't seems to boot into cwm recovery without a toolkit is that normal for installing an incorrect custom kernel?

Boot up holding all the buttons to get into recovery. Then flash.
Google for the cyanogenmod walkthrough on how to make a kernel flash. Its a bit in depth for here. Good luck!

Android 4.2.2
Is this kernel compatible with stock Android 4.2.2?
Not sure actually. Hopefully someone can test it out as I no longer have a GNex.

Better not flash it as 4.2.1 and 4.2.2 kernels are not compatible with each other.

The title of this thread states 4.2/4.21, so my guess would be no on 4.1.2
I urgently need to get this plagued 4.21 from off my gnex. Is there a downgrade process that I need to follow? I will be sticking with Cyanogen 10 official until Google can employ someone capable of following Q&A.
Thanks

just use the return to stock thread in general and download the older factory images from google.
what is wrong with 4.21? it works perfectly for me.

What is the deal with ramdisk? How do i switch between kernels to test out¿ do i have to flash a rom everytime?
Ex: i was runnin stock rom/kernal 4.3 for awhile, then just flashed fancy.. Do i have to reflash stock rom to clean the ramdisk?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
If fancy has its own ramdisk it is reccomended to dirty flash your rom.

the way I've always assumed for ramdisk was specific stock settings, symlink setups, init files and such
sorry I can't explain much further.
maybe to try to get more useful info for your question, try Google "zimage vs boot.img, what does kernels ramdisk do/contains"
you will probably get many Linux.results, but they translate very easily into android since android kernel is Linux based
Lol.. Thanks

basically certain kernels have its own ramdisk (. i.e franco )so its not recommended to flash different kernel without flashing the rom first.
wipe cache
flash rom
flash gapps
flash supersu if needed
flash kernel
This is from the ASUS forum. Sadly it will only work with Linux. So I'm wondering if there's anyone here who can pick at this and see if something can be created for Windows as I cannot for the life of me get Ubuntu or any other Linux system to install on Win 10
http://www.asus.com/zentalk/thread-76656-1-1.html
As it says on the page, it is for 2.20.40.184, so that is for the last update of lollipop.

So... it works on Lollipop?
I'm with Lollipop '.184' version.
I would be able to uptade by OTA like I'm never rooted just removing the root with SuperSu?
So many questions haha. I was used to do this in Motorola devices - it was so easy - and now i'm feelig as a newbie again!

Sorry, I'm used to people looking for an mm root method now. Lol. The answers you need are in the first posts in the resources thread. It's a stickie in the General forum.

Not only my questions are responded plus I found a better Rooting option at fisrt page.
Really thanks man.
I've been using cyanogenmod 13 nightly builds on my zenfone 2 550ml. Everything works fine except Ingress. How can I play this game? flashing a custom kernel didn't help either.please help me solve this. I have tried almost everything. My gps is working fine.
As it says in the OP of the cm13 thread, ingress does not work with Cm13

It wont work on any marshmallow rom.I have tried almost everything. Its working on lollipop. Is there any workarounds to get it working on marshmallow
That's because most of the Marshmallow roms are based on Cm13.

You should read the thread before posting. As @kenbo111 says, almost/all mm custom roms are based on cm13.
