So it's been a couple of months since the Galaxy Nexus came out so I think I'll get better information now as opposed to when it first came out.
I have an AT&T GSII and I love it. I have the ICScrewd rom on it and it's very fast and fluid and I also have a 16GB card to bring my total storage space to 32GB which is nice since I have a lot of pictures on my device. The screen isn't 720p and that's something I'd love to have and I'd also love to have ICS.
I'd have to sell my GSII for hopefully $350 and I'd also sell a Captivate I have (it's cracked but still works fine so I'd sell it for maybe $60-$80) and pay the difference for a GN (probably $140 out of pocket).
What would you all suggest based on your experience with the GN and GSII (Exynos) if you had it?
The experience is still the same as day one. Very fast and quick phone, so no the information you get from those other threads compared to this one won't be much.
No regrets using the GN, came from Nexus S and Galaxy S (Vibrant) before that.

Never used a iPhone 4 so I wouldn't know how to compare it.
I haven't gotten a scratch on it. No screen protector, just Otterbox Commuter + Extended GSM battery.
The screen itself is fortified, some people have complained that it isn't good blah blah blah. From my own experience, it's fine for me. Gorilla glass is not immune to scratches either. Just marketed better I guess.
I just ordered a GN from Amazon for Verizon and should have it next Tuesday. I am coming from the Epic 4G Touch (SGS2) from Sprint which is using the same processor at AT&T's. I am also curious if anyone has made the jump from this phone and how there experience has been.
I am looking forward to the GN and just hope it does not disappoint. Really looking forward to running ICS as well. Was never really that excited to run a stock Android device until now...

I never had the SGSII but I would assume the GN would just be like a sidegrade for you. I wouldn't get the GN if I already had a SGSII. Other than that the Galaxy Nexus is the best phone that I've ever had, coming from the Nexus One

That's the same thing I said when coming from Vibrant to Nexus S. I don't regret getting the NS either and you GS2 switchers most likely wouldn't either.
I'm in the exact same boat as the OP, sort of. I'm with Sprint and I've got the Epic 4G touch (SGSII with a stupid name). Anyway, my line is due for an upgrade in April (JOY) and I'm debating whether I should get the nexus. I've always been curious and kinda wanted a pure google phone. I love modding, flashing custom roms, tweaking, theming, etc. There is a VERY experimental CM9 rom available for my device but its not a daily driver. I flashed it though, just to check it out and I have fallen in love with ics, plain.
I guess my main question is: Considering the Verizon is also CDMA, will the custom roms and rooting methods available for the Verizon version work on the Sprint version? If not, I'd imagine there would still be plenty of development for the Sprint version, right?
To be honest, there are some nice roms for the Epic 4G touch but overall, I've owned other devices where the development seemed much stronger. I want a device that a LOT of developers will work on.
Any opinions, suggestions, advice? Also, I'd be lying if I didn't admit that I've also got my eye on the possibility of Sprint getting the Galaxy Note.

Verizon CDMA will not work for Sprint. Only Verizon. Sprint is getting their own version of the Galaxy Nexus but it's unknown when it will be getting it officially but it will probably be soon.
Another thing to add, when purchasing Galaxy Nexus.. make sure you get it from a reputable seller that is willing to fulfill the warranty because you are not covered by Samsung (at least the GSM version).

I AM talking about the one sprint's getting. I'm not gonna try to buy a Verizon one and connect it on sprint. That would never work. My question is: do u think the custom roms developed for the Verizon version will work on the sprint version since they're both cdma?

Will have to wait for the Sprint version to come out to answer you on that. The rooting method will definitely be the same

I don't see why not. It's a Nexus device, and many ROMs for the Galaxy Nexus are cross-compatible (not in the same package.... but both GSM & LTE)
at most, the radio/basebands will be different.
Kernel flashable zips are cross compatible.
I'm on the same boat, trying to figure out if I should switch to sprint when the GN comes out (better plan purposes) but hoping the sprint version will get as much love from the developers as the Verizon version.
Just wondering ....... what kind of plan do ya have on Verizon?

My 32GB iPhone 4S has not been used as much since getting my Galaxy Nexus. I really like my HTC Rezound but I think I may like my Nexus more. None of my HTC Rezound's would have the mobile hotspot work for over ten minutes before dropping the data connection. My GN has not dropped its data connection while using the mobile hotspot yet. (Being that I'm allowed unlimited data on my SMARTPHONE I pay to connect to other devices)

You won't be disappointed at all also I read a couple weeks ago (and correct me if I'm wrong ) the the omap 4460 has the same performance as the current exynos processors , only the omap isn't as power efficient.

I just switched from the GS2 Exynos to the gsm nexus three days ago, and believe it's worth it. The user experience is a whole different and ICS is just so good. And the screen resolution is awesome, reading on my phone has never been such a pleasure. Just get it and see for yourself
Just curious why a lot of people seem to prefer these devices over devices like Motorola Razr, etc? Is because these devices are updated more frequently than most? I've read that somewhere, but don't remember where. Thanks.

Nexus devices are bloat free (no motoblur, touchwiz, sense skins on top - just pure Android)
They (like you said) are the first to get updates to new Android releases
They are much simpler to unlock/root/theme/modify etc than others
The development of roms, kernels mods etc is the largest of any other Android phone probably and is always evolving
Pretty much why I chose a Nexus - I knew I would be able to get pretty comprehensive help with any aspect of it on these and other forums

Thanks for your response; it's much appreciated. Since I've only ever used Moto Android devices, I'm not very familiar with the offerings by Nexus. Does Samsung actually make the Nexus, but Google owns Nexus?

Google owns the Nexus brand and uses it to showcase their latest software offerings as well as to set a general trend of direction it envisions for Android as a whole - It contracts out the actual hardware manufacture to it's partners like HTC (Nexus One), Samsung (Nexus S & GNex) and ASUS (Nexus 7 tablet) etc.

No not any Nexus device. The GSM Nexus that you can buy from Google directly gets updates before any other device. The carrier locked (CDMA) Verizon and Sprint Nexi got the latest updates 2-3 months after the GSM model did, still they are ahead of most phones for updates.

Updated frequently, for longer, with great stock software.
If you're into rooting, its trivially easy.
If you're into ROMs, it'll be one of (if not the) best supported device for a long time to come.

Honestly, I was a huge HTC fanatic up until I first played with the Gnex. After an hour of playing with my new Gnex I was hooked, after a week of tweaking it I decided I will not own any other device but a Nexus branded one from this point on. I hated samsung because of how plastic and toylike their phones seemed to be but after owning my Gnex I changed my mind. My last phone (Inc2) had scratches on the screen within a week and dust under the screen within a month. I'm going on 3 months with my Gnex and keep it naked in the same pocked as my car keys sometimes with not a single tiny cosmetic ding.
Anyway, got a little off the subject, honestly the only way I will ever hesitate in the future from buying a nexus device is if crappy motorola is making it. I still love HTC and I definitely have a newfound love for Samsung after owning my Gnex and playing with the Note 2 and the GS3.
Bottomline, once you own a google flagship phone nothing else really compares.

This, plus the fact that I've seen multiple reviews now that suggest that the actual hardware is the same as the AT&T phone and therefore will not be able to connect to T-Mobile's HSPA+ network. Which I would think would be a total dealbreaker for any T-Mobile customer. Sucks I waited over a month for this phone and am now just considering buying the regular T-Mobile version and putting AOKP on it.
EDIT: The Anandtech review (which I should have read before posting) seems to invalidate my concern above. Sorry!
Now my biggest concern is that the phone doesn't come in black.
I was so close to giving google my money. But they chose white as the only color i could get? bah.
Also, judging by the review you posted, it seems i should be able to go out and get any US tmobile s4 and just transform it into a Google Edition. That is, once the rom drops and their are proper instructions. There are some things i don't understand, such as whether or not we'll be able to completely change the model number from SGH-M919 to GT-I9505G, but i'm sure someone will figure it out.

Must have missed this part where it says it works on LTE
Anyhow the layman's translation is that the SGS4 GPe and HTC One GPe work out of the box on AT&T and T-Mobile LTE. The SGS4 GPe will work on all of T-Mobile and AT&T HSPA+, HTC One GPe will work on all of AT&T HSPA+ but only Band 2 (1900 MHz) T-Mobile HSPA+. The HTC One GPe will not work on T-Mobile's Band 4 HSPA+, only its Band 4 LTE. If you're on Sprint or Verizon CDMA/LTE and care about having Nexus phones you're again on the wrong side of the fence and probably will be for the foreseeable future. I tested both T-Mobile and AT&T personal SIMs in both devices, and had no issues with them attaching flawlessly to LTE and HSPA+ on the respective networks.

Yes, but I haven't seen anyone get photosphere to work because the camera is different in the GS4. And since Samsung has it's own "photosphere" app coming, and these updates have to go through them first, I wonder if this feature has been left out.

Not true... The fact the Google Edition HTC One comes with Beats by default should tell you there will be some differences between these phones and the Nexus... Like, for instance... I like the fact that the updates go from Google to the OEM and then to the phone... That allows for the OEMs (Sammy and HTC) to add their own drivers (ESPECIALLY for the camera, my goodness can Google EVER throw a decent camera on their take of Android)
Is it VANILLA Android like it is on the Nexus 4? From the review, I KNOW it isn't. Imagine it more along the lines of a Cyanogenmod or a P.A. AOSP with tweaks.... You don't GET that on Vanilla Nexus... The fact it works like it should with the S-View cover (yes I have one) is a plus in my book. So, when I flash it whenever it comes out, I won't feel like I have no use for the cover I spent TOOOOOOO much money on..
But the google play page said it doesn't support AWS HSPA+. That's so weird.

Ya, HTC we are talking about samsung here. It does NOT and I doubt will have any samsung features like what you are expecting on TW. Only thing it have is the S-view and probably underlining features no one want is crazy about because let face it, all the samsung gimmics and cool feautures will only be on TW. If you are sitting here holding your breath for them I will advice you to breath

Nexus 6 isn't listed either. I'm pretty sure being omitted from that list does not mean the G3 isn't getting lollipop.
I am not quite sure as to how the LG G3 Lollipop update was left off of the list, but I am happy to report it is in the T-Mobile testing phase. And our testing is going really well. I will reach out to product development and try to get it added to the list. Thank you for pointing this out.

G3 is now listed as 'Manufacturer Development'.
Why on earth is T-Mobile just now in the testing phase when every other carrier has had a release. T -mobile is the new Verizon when it comes to updates, very sad. I expected more from the uncarrier.
Maybe they are trying to fix the roaming data connectivity issues wrt IPv6. See the old threads.

Could be, T-Mobile is the only carrier using IPV6 only on LTE (if I'm not mistaken). They could also have required VoLTE be working, so LG could be taking longer to make sure all this works. Still sucks that it's taking so long.
i had to move from a nexus 5 to a lg g3, what a regression when you see t-mobile slowing such updates!
I've been using a Moto X 2nd Gen. New job has the silly policy of not allowing rooted devices to access our craptastic Lotus Notes e-mail. The G3's KitKat build is unusable without root. Hoping Lollipop is better, otherwise the G3 will be finding a new home.

You could use RootCloak on Lotus Notes so your work wouldn't be able to detect it.

I tried. Didn't work. They use Airwatch and I couldn't get anything to fool it on the G3 while rooted.
But now that you pointed me to it again, I searched through the RootCloak thread and apparently there is a version of Airwatch that can be fooled. I'll have to try it and see if I can get it working on my G3. That would be awesome.

Why on earth is T-Mobile just now in the testing phase when every other carrier has had a release. T -mobile is the new Verizon when it comes to updates, very sad. I expected more from the uncarrier.

The answer is so simple...
There's developmental teams for each region and NOT all of them finish at the same time... The last responses shows how childish some people are. Some devices get finished on other carriers and some don't. T-Mobile isn't always the first and they are not always the last. You can say that with ANY carrier.
If manufacturers really wanted to fix this problem they should take away the carrier options they give them, and then have a single base phone so they only need to code for a single device(iPhone 6, and 6+ as an example they are all exactly the same). Of course device prices would get more expensive then people will complain how expensive they are while blaming the carrier for the prices.

The fact of the matter being LG had 5.0 in hand early to mid Q4 and many carriers were putting finishing touches on their certification by the end of the year. We are now 2 months in to Q1 and every carriers' update status has surpassed ours. When you say there are different development teams for each region I assume you mean domestically which makes perfect sense but isn't that a nice way of saying "we're not ready yet". I'm not one to usually ***** about updates because it makes things less enjoyable in most cases but I'm a little blown away. When I heard LG G3 was one of the first handsets scheduled to get lollipop I thought for sure T-Mobile would shine once more. I just need to modify my definition of "soon" because in T-Mobile's dictionary the definition is a month or more.

I'd like to welcome myself back to the Android community after taking a 1.5yr hiatus. I switched to Blackberry for a couple of personal reasons, but I went into it knowing I would be back here eventually
So I picked up my Galaxy S6 from Sprint today, and the first thoughts that entered my mind after I turned my phone on were "Root, Roms, Kernels, Themes...I've missed all of it so much!"
I used to be a heavy flasher, and even dabbled in some modding back in my Android days. It's going to take me a short while to get back into the swing of it - but I am still plenty confident to start flashing away.
So I hopped on our XDA Sprint S6 forum here ready to be punched in the face with the overwhelming amount of content, and I was absolutely shocked to see how little development is happening with this device. Actually, shocked is an understatement. I remember XDA development forums always being absolutely littered with Roms and kernels (it was up to you to sift through the crap, of course) - there was never any shortage of flashing/modding material. So, especially with a flagship device like this, you could say that I am a tad bewildered.
Since I've been away from the community for a considerable amount of time, I wanted to ask if there's any particular reason for this? Is there something about the phone's hardware that is holding things back? Something to do with the Sprint variant? Have all the devs moved to a new forum? What gives?

The main issue is lack of dev support for the Exynos processor, which is basically only used by Samsung and isn't as well-documented as the Qualcomm processors most other Android phones have. We get the sh*t end of the stick even more with Sprint, both because it's a CDMA carrier while the majority are GSM so that's what most of the devs make kernels for, and the partition layout is different for Sprint devices, so it takes a bit of work to port stuff. That said, I'm not entirely sure why more of the ROMs/kernels for other S6 variants aren't available for the Sprint version, it doesn't seem to me like it would be too difficult to make it work for us. If anyone else has any insight on that I'd love to hear it.
Another thing killing development on Samsung devices is the 2 largest US carriers have locked down the bootloader making any non-stock ROM or kernel impossible to flash. So many developers gave up on Samsung. There will be less support for Sprint devices as it needs CDMA device support. T-Mobile will be able to use international ROMs, but not Sprint.

I'm willing to bet anything that they do use it. Especially if it's as good as they say.
I think this every time I click into this forum. Things aren't lively in the Samsung camp and I've belonged to this camp since the Epic. It's sad how dead it is.
At least for myself I can say, with the more freedom and performance these days, I don't have need to root.

Technically my first Samsung was the Instinct, but we won't elaborate on that lol. Best times in the threads was the S1-S3. But I agree, hell the G3 had way more attention. I don't even have this phone anymore but I hang in here more cause the other subforum is useless.

I had that phone too! For about 8 days. That thing froze up worse than Buffalo in a blizzard. They pushed that out way too fast.

My hayday of flashing was epic 4g touch (aka s2), I flashed something every day on that device, then a little bit less on s4, then even less on s5, and now I'm completely stock on s6. I really wish there would be a way to get stock on latest ota without tripping Knox
