Sorry if this is the wrong place for this post, seemed like the most sensible spot. I used to be involved in OS development back when 2.2 was brand new and shiny. I forget most of what I did, then.
I am looking for someone who would be making a Galaxy Nexus ROM (_obviously_). I know I have to be running a Linux distro (Will be using Ubuntu) and know how to install/configure/use Ubuntu/terminal. I'm also very technologically inclined, and learn very quickly. I am also willing to simply study before and after files, note the effects, and learn that way.
There's not a whole lot I won't do, and there's a whole lot I can be/am good for. I also have many contacts from the old Liquid E days that would be able to help with any potential issues that arise as well.
Thank you in advance,
Matthew/Harness.

That is so true, when you get to college/university then your going to regret it that you wasted this time, remember you waste time then time will kill you.

Not necessarily. If the OP's interest is in computers/Android/etc. It's a whole lot easier to learn this when you're young.
If they're looking into this because they are bored, then yeah, follow the above.
Android development is hard work & has lots full of frustration (esp. when you get off the beaten path & try and do things that aren't as well documented.)

What do you want to develop, specifically? Apps, Android (Roms) or kernels? (Yes, you can develop all three *cough*Keiran*cough* but I've found it's best if you specialize in an area.)

All I can say, is start learning now, when you are young you learn very very fast.
Back in November, if you said that in 6 months I would have learned Android derived Java, built my own kernel and ROM from source, and created any form of app, I would have laughed at you. I had CM7 on a HTC Wildfire
But when you really stick at something, you get good at it, and in my case, if its useful to me, I will develop for it.
Good luck

I love xda, I spend a large portion of my time browsing the forums, mainly this section and the galaxy s2 section. But I both loathe and love xda for making me customise and mod my HOX and SG2, spending countless hours each week trying new kernels, mods, widgets, Roms etc...
If I didn't know about xda I'm sure I'd just change the wallpapers on my phones and the rest would stay stock - which wouldn't be a bad thing. I'd probably have a clear head to focus on other things.
I've customised my HOX now exactly how I like it now, but the fact that there is so much option and information on xda, I can't stay exactly how I like for long because I will constantly changing things around - for the better or sometimes worse, resulting in disaster for a hour or so while I reinstall everything or do nandroid recovery.
Thanks xda, and contributors for giving me the tools and information to waste a day modding and customising my phone - only to realise that I liked things how they were before
How do you guys feel? Love/hate xda for the options it gives you?

I know exactly what you mean.......
........i love xda for exactly that reason, spent ages messing around with my old htc desire and i dont think i had any particular rom for more than a week! I think the information provided by devs and other members is fantastic and have learnt alot through self teaching by reading and trying different things and of course saving the phone on numerous occasions after thoroughly buggering it up lol!!!!

I think I'd be lost without XDA. Devs are great, members are great and it's taught me a lot. Coming from devices in the past I've always loved to flash custom roms even on my Blackberry days. Devs make it easy for us and the commitment and hard work put in for us members is something that needs to be appreciated.
Thank you to all of you at XDA I'm an XDA addict and I suffer from ORD.

exactly, when i had my desire, i had just the bear essentials backed up with titanium backup, most of the other apps would download automatically via the play market anyhow. must admit though, i am waiting for s-off before rooting this badboy, at least if phone buggers up i can flash ruu and should be ok with warranty. my O.R.D has subsided............for now.

Hey guys, some of you guys may or not know me.
I first joined XDA when I had my Sony X10. I then shortly sold that and got myself a new N1. Well now... since my N1 turning 2ish, I finally got myself a brand new spanking SG3, loving it so far.
Anyways lets cut to the chase
I'm mainly here on XDA to help out whereever I can, so now I am going to host/offer all SG3 ROMS/kernels/etc for free, directly, no need to wait for timers or anything
So if any DEVs/anyone here want FTP access so they can host their stuff, let me know :

Hosting for developers
xxsashixx its very good to know that every one is supporting the good cause =)
I myself was about to offer a hosting place for developers here but you did it before me. I'm changing my hosting plan right now. If you want to help me choose a feasible host I'm willing to help you out with hosting. May be provide more mirrors or a site/page for the developer if needed be. I've been using xda as a resource for too long and now its time I paid back to the community. I'll contribute in any way I can.

True. But its a pretty cool rom with some nice features. played around with it on my gilrs phone. but yeah a port is a great idea. if i knew anything on how to do it i would.
That should be cool. Since TW and LG TW are very similar. But two difference devices
i think its possible. im trying to do it myself but it may take a while since im new to porting. so if any devs see this i would greatly appreciate any help. any help from anyone really.
