Samsung has removed the ability to install 3rd party fonts with the latest MM update. You can install any of the crap flipfont ones from the Samsung app store, but no longer can you use any of the font apps from the Play store. Will just give you the "not supported" message and uninstall the font. I am used to using a nice condensed font on my phones, like a Roboto condensed, Segoe condensed, or Univers condensed, but no more. Samsung directed me to the font maker and app makers. App makers say it is Samsung. Font maker (who makes are the crappy flipfonts on the Samsung store) Monotype Imaging Inc. told me to contact the phone maker. Funny huh? Nice new "feature" Samsung. A little more like Apple I guess.

I was disappointed at first, too. But there's a simple solution. Find one in the galaxy apps store that you like, spend the whopping $0.99 to get it, an move on. This is what I did, and it's good...

What apps do you recommend? Would be nice if you guys could post a description of the app next to it
1. Open Playstore
2. Browser through best free and best paid apps
3. Think about what kind of app you want then search.
4. Don't post something like this again.

Gtasks for android und ios
Beautiful widgets
Pure Messenger widget
Pure Kalender
Folder organizer
Gesendet von meinem GT-I9300 mit Tapatalk 2
I personally would recommend,
Android pro widgets (widget set with calendar,... highly customizable),
beautiful widgets (widget set with many clock widgets and loads of themes),
tasker (root needed) (make jobs at time, place or any other condition like app starts [turn on wifi,...]),
titanium backup (root needed) (app and data backups),
gta3(^^),
chrome beta (chrome for phone with direct synchronization of bookmarks, open tabs,... to desktop chrome),
ultimate call screen (fullscreen hd callscreen replacement),
ttorrent (torrent client),
solid explorer (pretty nice tabbed file explorer),
swype beta (keyboard where you can draw the words over the keyboard instead of typing them)
and everything from chainfire what is usable for our device (root needed)^^
Gesendet von meinem GT-I9300 mit Tapatalk 2
1. onenote - note taking app.. notes, memos etc.. syncs online and onto your computer. apps are available on the iOS too
2. double twist player (for itunes syncing.. I guess you'd need that if you are coming from an iphone)
3. ES file explorer - just a file explorer but capable of lots of other things once you root your phone
4. Swiftkey - keyboard that predicts your next word when typing.. pretty good and can save you time
Fancy widgets is better IMO than beautiful widgets. Nicer clocks styles.
Simple Calendar widget. Activate 4x2, multi skin to get loads of lines for diary entries, then shrink back to 4x1 to save space.
Pocket
S Baro - free from Samsung on More services
Amazon Kindle
BBC Iplayer.
Shaman, shop savvy
Zite
Google Sky Map
Amazon, amazon mp3
eBay
PayPal
Syrious scramble - great word game
Light Flow, cant stress enough on that one. Fully utilizes SIII's LED for notification.
NOVA 3..
s3 runs it smooth..
(i don't own 1 though) just sayin lolz

It's all very well ripping this post, and he could have phrased it better, but the guy has a point. There are no such thing as "must have" apps. It depends what you like/want and is entirely subjective. So you'd do just as well looking at the list of top apps on the Play Store (where you effectively get the recommendations of millions) as you would reading the opinions of those who post on this thread.
$0.02
I prefer user on xda give me opinion than million on playstore.
Some apps that people posted earlier are on my list.

While doing my search for the perfect writing app. I realized that there arent too many quality apps in the Play store for pepole who want to write or take notes. But I did come across an incredible app after months and months of search. Its called xWriter.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.epsilonmobile.xwriter
Although it does lack for some features like Syncing across devices using Dropbox or Google Drive, you can definitely export everything you write to either of these services. Moreover, there isnt a single app in the market which features Syncing. Evernote sucks to be very honest. Its paid version is extremely pricey and I dont like the clunky interface.
xWriter does have a free version with limited features, but I found that my 3 bucks were totally worth it. I would say anyone who is looking for a decent app for Writing or taking Notes, this is it.
I use quickoffice for school and evernote for notes.
Evernote is free and has all your syncing needs with an outstanding ui

I discovered hovernote this week, sorry no link on mobile. Search it out on the market. Absolutely amazing to be able to multitask and have a note hover above any other app as a move able window

Try Hovernote in playstore. Its a note taking "hover" app that allows you to share notes with evernote, dropbox, Drive etc
I am using FreeNote and i think its perfect and it is free It has export functions (like export to *.pdf), the ability to take handwritten notes or handmade pictures (i hope you know what i mean^^) and a widget which shows the latest taken note. All in all i would say it's like S Memo on the Galaxy Note but for everyone.
Try out Handrite. It is the east I've seen on Android. The developer is also really quick to respond to requests.

do any of these apps allow for in line drawing (of graphs, etc) .
i really like supernote, but the scribble function shrinks the 'scribble' to text size
I really like freenote, I've used asus supernote on the transformer and enjoyed it, but never liked how you could only export PDF's one page at a time and u couldnt see the full menubar on the N7 without a DPI change. Attached are some of my notes so far in class (only been to a couple days of classes). batch export so i can create multiple "notebooks" when i export as well as categorize the pages by classes. Also allows in note drawings and sound recorder but i havent tried out the sound recorder yet. Im still finding out new features, so the attached notes may have inconsistent stroke sizes while i figure out which one looks the best for me.
Still trying to get used to the new environment of freenote, but i really like it out of all the ones ive tried for the nexus 7

in comparison the jpg labeled ASUS is from my TF101 (transformer) using supernote, the picture doesn't do the app justice, it was a lot more legible in the app.

I have tested the app with nexus 4 device and it is working fine. Wanted to test in other devices but don't have budget and resources for the same. So here i am asking XDA fourm members to test and give you valuble inputs.
Few words on new app
True launcher - A new intelligent way of grouping installed app
Google play link:
I can't post link because of forum rules.
Search for True launcher in the play
Synopsis:
Once we install apps from the Play Store, it takes way too long to find them, and once we're done, it can be bothersome trying to remember which app we installed before that one. After a couple of months, that clean app drawer can grow to become six, seven, and even eight pages long.
This is where True launcher comes in handy to users.
True launcher has a special tab called “My Play” where user can find all the applications downloaded from the play store also it automatically organise your applications based on Google play categories.
True launcher is faster, smoother and customisable home replacement application.

Any one got a chance to test or found any issues??
Received my M5 8.4 yesterday and am loving the hardware. Not keen on the default EMUI theme, so popped into the "Themes" app to change it. All I see are the half dozen or so "local" themes. A quick Google shows that the phone version of the "Themes" app includes a marketplace, that seems to be missing from my M5 tablet version.
True of others with the M5? Is it an app thing, or a regional thing, or the fact that they've yet to create any tablet specific themes for download?
Local themes here too.

You can load any themes from other emui based devices, just copy the .hwt file to the Huawei/Themes directory, and it shows up in the themes app as the local themes do.
Plenty of themes in the Mate 9/Mate 10 forums, as well as the Huawei themes website.
https://emui.huawei.com/en/hwtheme
I modified a theme to suit my own needs... (Black settings, Calendar etc)
You can also load fonts the same way.
I will share any themes I end up making, when they are completed.

If you open the most up to date version of the themes app, under settings somewhere you can change locale to other countries - when you do that the themes start appearing in vast quantities depending on the setting. Both paid and free themes and wallpapers. Seems the UK locale has nothing associated with it though.

What version of the app are you using?
I cannot see any 'settings' option in the themes app, my version is 8.0.0.353
I've got 9.0.4.302. At the bottom of the app, you have a "me" button, then scroll down to get the location option.
App was updated from within itself, possibly after a firmware update.
Can someone please create a Black Theme?
If i use a Black Theme for phone on the Tablet there will be a ugly white beezel in the settings
It might depend on where you live. I'm in the US and on my last 3 Huawei phones including this one there was no marketplace in the theme app and no option to change the region within the theme app or any other Huawei stock app. Huawei Cloud and Huawei's app store also haven't worked on any of these phones and there is no way to change the region for either of them either.

I was able to access the location setting in the theme app using QuickShortcut Maker which I was using for something else--somebody suggested that turning off WiFi Calling which was enabled but with the setting hidden might fix the problem some of us on T-Mobile in the US are having not receiving calls or texts.
I remember seeing this setting before in the theme app, possibly on my P20 Pro but it doesn't actually let me change the region to anything other than United States. I think the region locks during phone set-up for people in the USA because I haven't been able to change the region in any Huawei system apps on my last 3 Huawei phones. Doing that might work in Europe because of rules in the European Union.
While I am waiting for my Galaxy, has anybody tried the older Wearable Widgets app for S3 on the Galaxy, and its phone companion app? Not sure why Samsung refused further store entries and hence development of this at first sight genius concept...bluetooth streaming regular Android widgets to the app face. Would open a huge number of widgets for apps not yet (or never) supported. http://wearablewidgets.com/gear/
Good news from a German forum, WearableWidgets running if fresh installation, not taken over from a S3 install. Letting you see for example the status of your smartphone battery.
