It seems that LG has released security updates for July:
https://lgsecurity.lge.com/security_updates.html
Any region get new KDZ with July security update yet?
I don't understand LG's point of view... KDZ with security update only would be nice...
LG is a joke. The security updates are non existent. That page is a misleading marketing scheme. I never got a single software update since January I bought this phone. I flashed the UK V20H just to make my phone usable. Where did they send those updates? To whom ? I don't see them. With so many useless phone variants do not expect updates. And If I judge from the current situation I don't think we will ever get Android N.

Rogers are releasing an update for the G4 on the 24th. They said its 6.0.1 and will include latest security updates
Next week we wait for 6.0.1
I gave up on LG updates and will never buy another non-nexus device again. I installer CM13 on my H815 and now it's working 100% with lastest patches from google Hope LG dies a slow death! G5 is not selling maybe because people are fed up with this crappy company. Install CM, you won't regret it!

CM13 doesn't solve the problems for me. While it it safer than stock it is also slower, laggier, choppier in animations and has worse battery life than stock V20H for me (same settings same apps disabled per app profiles and battery set to efficient). It is also still in Nightly phase which means it is not yet finished. Also the camera quality is worse on CM than stock. I will give it a try once they release the final stable version.

Than you can wait a long time, no matter on which phone I have tried stable releases of CM.. they were never really stable and always felt to me like unfinished work. Not that CM is bad but they had always some micro stutters and small things that could annoy you after some time of use. CM is a great option if your device doesn't get official updates anymore.

LG is one of the best, if it is about updates. Others are wide behind if we talking about updates/patches etc.
CM13: What about the camera? Is there a ported App or something? I would need a app, which can give me all options, i have in stock camera app.

I haven't got any update since December... I have international H815... Even crapsung is better than that.
Took a picture with the cm camera and it looked like any other pictures I have taken, but I can't see what the camera experts see so perhaps it's worse or even better lol....
The best thing about cm yet is the DPI! Wow! Suddenly I got so much more screen estate.

The camera app "Camera FV-5" comes close to the Stock LG Camera app if we talk about features.
But it doesn't get close to the photo quality if you compare pictures taken with the LG Camera on the stock ROM to pictures taken with any camera app on AOSP and CM based ROMs.

Hi,
The OnePlus One really impresses me with there cm11s and cm12 roms, I like the stock Android feel with customization. The G3 stock feels a bit to slow and laggy to me. So the question is, how does the G3 holds up in the stable roms department against the OnePlus? Is there any stabel CM11 or CM12 roms? And is it as simple to install as on the OnePlus?
[ROM][Lollipop][Unofficial]Cyanogenmod 12 [D855]
Official CM12 is planned.
And there is plenty other AOSP roms.
It is easy to flash custom ROMs on G3. Just click flash in recovery.
Depending on the LG G3 you have, if it's a 2GB or 3GB, the experience is pretty much the same.
I have a one plus one and an LG G3 and i find the LG G3 software to be more colourfull, which is great on the screen.
The customization that the LG G3 offers without being rooted is huge, you can change almost everything.
In terms of speed, i have the 2GB. My LG doesn't seem so slow, I'm using a Custom Rom (AndroidNow) and it feels great.
Overall, i prefer the LG because the phone is more customizable and the quality of the product is a little bit better.

Sounds easy, how will my version of phone hold up with custom roms(see version below)? What you are saying is really that there is not a big diffrence between the scene of custom roms for OnePlus One and the G3?

The version I got is LG-D855 32 GB. The software is Android 4.4.2, Kernel 3.4, Versionnumber : KVT49L.A1412000029, Softwareversion : V10I-EUR-XX, will this be a problem for the custom rom scene?
I haven´t used the G3 much yet but I have heard that the battery life are really bad? like a day or less of "normal" use and there is random restarts that probably depends on the hardware!? If thay only went with a regular 1080p screen
Im on the fenc about the OnePlus One, have a friend that got it with custom Lollipop rom and its REALLY smooth and fast! Much like the Nexus 5. But Im not so sure about the suport and the missing wireless chargin. The LTE are also not adapten to the Swedish LTE from what I read so problem with reception outside big cities will probably be a fact.

You have D855 as you said. That is international version and it has biggest ROM collection of all G3 variants.

Is there any sable rom that do bring something "better" but still dont break for example video recording?
Plenty of the is stable and support video recording. Plenty of stock based and aosp based.
Don't understand what do you mean by "do bring something better". Video recording is the same. Only difference on stock you can shoot slowmotion.

Nice to hear that there is stable alternative roms for the g3!
It sounds like you have tested some of them, will some of the custom roms remove the lag that the stock have? How long do your batteri last?

Lag is not present in stock rom even. Lag was there on first batches of firmware, but it is solved.
Battery, I get 5 hours SOT always. It can only goes up, never got less then 5 hours.

I got lag in my updated stock for sure. Its micro lagg but noticable. For example if I open up the programs list and scrolls I will notice that it laggs, nut much but its there. This did never happen on my old Samsung S3.
What suprises me is that my old Samsung S3 on stock are a bit faster then the G3 on opening apps and switching between them. I supose that the screen takes a lot of power and this is one of the resons I have looked at the OnePlus One.
If I wanted to try a custom rom before deciding if I should return the phone, is this possible? I need to be able to return it to the stock exacly as it was. What custom firmware would you suggest? Is there maybe a stable cm11 rom for the G3 international?
Hi everybody, i want to learn which rom is more stable and faster? Cyanogen or Stock LG ROM?
I'm playing too much Games, Stock 20H is good but is Cyanogen's game performance slower than stock rom? I dont care Camera Quality etc.

Cyanogenmod uses a lot less RAM than the Stock ROM. I would highly recommend it. Camera quality seems unchanged for me, and I have absolutely no lag or problems playing games.

I have not noticed a difference at all. It still looks beautiful! I doubt it would change the screen quality in any way. If there is a show on TV that is 1080p and you only have a 720p tv you're going to see the 720. Using that logic, anything that was displayed beforehand will be limited by the screen itself, so if the screen is the same it should display it the same.
Make a backup of your current ROM beforehand, install Cyanogenmod, and if you don't like it just revert back to what you had!

but how does battery do? cm12 vs stock?
i did notice 2gb ram isn't enough. i come from a cm11s phone wiht 3gb ram. so it was fast as what ever is fast. but now 2gb and stock rom on a lg g3 plus 2k screen is bad. my oncle has a 3gb ram its better no relaunching launcher or what ever. (still getting used to 2gb ram, all my apps keep on closing when i press home) still its a higher quality phone than oneplus. okay om going off subjet
so how much of a difference is there in batter? cause on stock its already bad 4h screen on is soo bad. but quality and compactness has a price

Better battery based on the amount of RAM taken up by system processes. I noticed a huge improvement.
You can try using servicely to prevent certain services from running and improve available RAM.

So what you say cm12 does better job for the 2gb version.
Didnt try to see what difference me and my oncle had in battery life. Since he has the 3 gb version. But yeah more ram means more apps cached in ram so less time to reopen, right.
I know cyanogenmod is very light on ram. (compared to stock roms for manufacturers)
I will see. I actually like lg stock roms always did. Atleast i likeed there ice-cream roms. Had it on my lg optimus 2x, and on lg optimus L9 loved there android 4.0 roms.
Still like this rom but some features anoy me. You always need to swipe to unlock even when you press the notification of lock screen or notifications bar.
I will see and try when i have time.

yep with twrp nandbackup will see when i have motivation
I have the d855 as well and have been with the latest stock 20h since it came out. Recently, around 3 weeks ago i wanted to give cmod12 a go to see the performance improvement everyone was taking about.
So i rooted it and with twrp i installed the latest nightly of cm12. Then, upgraded to 12.1.
After these last couple of weeks with cmod, i finally decided to revert back to stock Android of lg g3.
Why? Well, for one. The performance gain wasn't that great. You loose many features like the unlock screen pattern without need to swipe up first. The very good smart screen which there are apps for that but not as good. And perhaps more that i cannot recall now.
The biggest problem though were the bugs. I know i use nightly builds but come on. You need to restart the phone like very often to fix stuck camera, touch screen and more annoying bugs like the fact that phone data cannot be toggle from the profile switcher.
Anyway. For me this was more lose than gain...
I wouldn't recommend cmod12 or 12.1 nightlies over lg stock to anyone.

Completely agree. That's why i use kitkat stock based Cloudy G3.
Lot's of cached applications, no redraws, great GPS. Never short on memory. Full Xposed.
If google corrects the memory leaks bugs and LG can pull a balanced ROM (governors, mem min values, etc.) in upcoming 5.1.2, or 5.2 or M or whatever, then i might upgrade... Until then...
I currently have a nexus 5 and I'm looking to upgrade. The G4 looks like a great option as it have more RAM better processor, better screen and mainly an SD SLOT!!!! I currently am getting by with 16GB which is then around 10GB usuable. My question is is this phone worth getting considering I would like a custom ROM. I'd be happy with CM12 but there doesn't look like much support, I can get this phone pretty cheap but I'm not sure as the support just doesn't seem to be here. Anyone with this phone got any advice? I recently switched to the G4 (H811) from the S6 Edge back in October. I would consider it a good upgrade. The official CM updates are already rolled out and I've been using it as a daily driver even through the buggy (not complaining) Alpha and Beta stages. As a lot of other users have already stated, most of us considered the stock ROM good enough, especially with Marshmallow rolling out pretty soon. The only reason I switched to CM 12.1 was for the near stock look and the lag in the stock ROM. I've heard good things about the CTT MOD, eliminating lag involving thermal throttling. I used MicroMod777's debloated stock ROM. It ran smoother than stock in my experience. I'll be happy to answer anymore questions you have, given my experience with the device.

Thanks a lot. I really like this phone however I don't like stock. I am happy with CM12 though as it has all the features I use. How stable is CM? Are the bugs ironed out now? How is battery life and heat issues? What type of lag is it? Scrolling lag or gaming? I saw the mod but didn't read too much into it, also is over clocking an option via kernels?
Thank again for answering my questions, it will save me a lot of time searching the forums

CM is pretty stable so far, good enough for a daily driver. Trebuchet crashes every now and then and I've noticed some issues with the camera (besides the actual camera app, that's just AOSP camera in general). I'm not complaining, nor rushing the devs, but it's easily usable as a daily driver. To sum it up, bugs are present, but not bad. Battery life is iffy, I can get through an entire day with 2 batteries and sometimes a charge. I'd say it's around 3 hours SOT. Heat issues are way worse on the stock ROM, nothing too bad so far on CM. Lag on CM is little things like scrolling or keyboard animations, and apps crashing now and then. I haven't tried much gaming. Over clocking is possible.
if you guys use CM custom rom, which app use for camera? is the CM camera apps as good as stock to use all features of the G4 camera? or you don't care about photos, you just need other features covered by CM rom?

I think the issue is because of the bootloader and the fact that there are only 2 variants which is can be unlocked on.
I know CandySix is coming to the G4 though :good:

The other features are worth losing the camera. It's still great for regular pictures but don't expect a DSLR replacement. They're still working on getting the G4 Camera ported to the ROM.

you can use other 3rd party camera apps but you lose some features like night shot which is used by front camera as well.
also shutter time will not be more than 0.5s, stock goes up to 30s.
Its not clear to me how CM will make use of the colour sensor and laser AF. Are shots as quick to take, are they as clear.
Low light on auto ? this is buggy right now from the few samples i saw.
Whether unlocking bootloader automatically disables these features is not clear. Because if it does then its a one way process. You lose it forever.

You get 3h sot on cm or stock ?
regardless you should be getting more, on stock.
3-4h on data, 4-5h on wifi. If your brightness is 25% you can add an extra hour in there. This is normal with stock and greenify.
If you can't get that then you need a reset.
I've seen very little to no benefits accruing to battery life by rooting, roms or exposed. if you must go down that route its about features.

3h SOT on CM, less on stock. That's with greenify and screen at around 30% brightness. I'm not going to complain to CM development for those numbers, but I'll try one of the debloated stock ROMs and report back after a few days. Thanks for the advice.

Looks like a ghost town to me. Compare that forum to the equivalent G3 forum, even at the current date in 2014, and it was way more lively.
With every passing day it looks more and more like the G4 has been abandoned. I guess you can't blame the devs, LG are being pricks about the bootloader.

Pretty clear there is not much to choose from and even then they seem to have bugs. This was a genuine question no need to be cocky although I'm sure it makes you feel superior.
Thanks a lot guys, it was basically a choice between the G4 or a Sony Z5 both have little support, obviously the Z5 has only just been released so it's to be expected. I'm just a little disappointed as the G4 seemed so perfect for me hardware wise vs price, plus the fact the G4 uses the 808 as opposed to the 810 which has overheating problems. The Moto X pure is looking like a possibility for this reason now. I tend to keep my phones fairly long so I need something quite stable. I think I will hold off for now until support for the phones I'm interested in grows, unless I see something really cheap in the black Friday sales
Thank you for your help everyone, I appreciate it!!

I'm in the exact same boat man, G4 looks like the perfect phone in terms of hardware but the software situation is just depressing. We'll see how things pan out once Marshmallow has made it to all G4s, but if thing don't pick up I'll have to look elsewhere.

The Moto X pure has very similar hardware to the G4, if it's within your budget I'd suggest looking there once the phone has been out awhile and gained support.

What's is your usage like ? if its heavy then i don't think you can do better.
I'm not going to complain to CM development for those numbers, but I'll try one of the debloated stock ROMs and report back after a few days. Thanks for the advice.

if you can't get those figures in stock then Cm can't do more.
debloated if you have a carrier rom, its not necessary otherwise.
How long you had the device ?
People that can't get beyond 3h sot need a reset. something is running more than it needs to. a reset fixes it. dont just do a plain restore after, install apps in small batches and monitor.

Heavy usage. I got better in CM than stock. I've had the T-Mobile G4 since around late September. And yes, I need the debloated ROM because my stock H811 ROM is the carrier one. I've also noticed less lag on it with animations, particularly the keyboard pop-up ones.

Ah, then 3-4hrs of sot is normal.
was testing with youtube and speakers on max. 1 hr of youtube eats up around 27%. 3hrs of youtube like that and its recharge time.
With bluetooth it drops to 20%. Must be some more savings with wired speakers.
with screen off and just podcasts its 10%/hour.
So far the heaviest usage is recoding with 4k. Do that for 90 minutes and the battery is flat.

I'm actually not sure, I'm almost always using it. It drains around 10% over night (about 7 hours) if I forget to plug it in. That's on the CM ROM.
Bootloader is still annyoing to unlock for most models/ not possible, also this phone has so many different models.
On top of that we got from Lolipop to MM quite fast which may also be a reason for the lack of roms.
If I'd be a Dev I'd rather not put too much effort in Lolipop roms for the G4 if MM is right around the corner.
Dunno maybe it will get better now
Im thinking about updating to Android 6 but im not quite sure if i should do it already.
Heard some good things about perfomance and overall feeling but also about lowered Imagequality.
What are your pros and cons about the update? Is it worth going? Pls help me

Well thx for your response! [emoji14]
im currently on fulmics 2.7 with xceed and its feeling really smooth. There is not a real reason for me to upgrad but i feel a bit outdated if i stay on lp. I know its stupid.
Im not using the camera for high quality shots at all but i also dont want to loose some of the quality. Is there any chance that lg will update the camera problem?
and about the knock code: i think there is no way for the devs to disable the "6knocks3areas" rule? i love the knock code on lp and dont want to miss it
I think I will wait and see if LG can fix this problems or maybe a dev can
As far as I know the MM release is somewhat a beta release since it was only released in Poland. It being a beta, I guess it's normal to have a numerous amount of bugs. So better wait for the global final release before ranting out on unfinished beta software.

Dont rly know what you talking about. Knock code for me works fine and camera FV 5 does the job well on every condition.
V30b is doing fine with and am most satisfied with batery life.
But looks like its just mz expiriance and its up to you if your going to wait for the nwxt relese or upgrade like me.
All the best .
:tapatalkin'
Ya works fine with me to. v30b is one smooth ride. knock code is only 2 more taps anyway so thats not to bad as far as camera goes it grand. Believe me LP sucks ass compared to this. do yourself a favor and flash+root v30b sure if you dont like it you can allways go back to lolipop ?

Each to their own. /TLDR. Narf.
If you come up with a claim at least try to put a reason behind it - everything else is just pure arrogance or simply said hot air venting from between the two bottom halves.
The JPG-Engine seemingly was downgraded just like the Camera is way less responsible and OIS (even while hardware-based) seems to be fcked up with their drivers introducing lag as such leading to blurry pictures under the same conditions that were absolutely fine on LP.
(And I don't have Parkinson)
Just ask kairi_zeroblade but I bet he's tired of those endless discussions with people that don't bring up reason or listen to those with more insight and technical knowledge (like him - I'm not even speaking about myself that is).
Like I said - each to their own. If you need to experience it yourselves and don't care you're free to do so.

Heres my problem with your opinion. Which it is an opinion. As with most reviews people give on xda, people here already have a high expectation based on their technical experience or lack there of. Ive found that if i compare peoples reviews from xda to other sites or real world, youll find a really wide spread. Im not saying youre wrong but you project opinion off as fact. Even reading this reply to people you attack anyone disagreeing by saying they are sheep or arrogant. Ever heard of variance. Sure every device comea off the line "identical" but errors happen. If you have a defective phone to begin with a software update may not fix it. Its why you get people on so many places on a line. Ive been with android since the beginning and these kind of responses have always happened. Ive seen peolle post and say that "everyone " is having the issue and they should either not buy the device or not update. Xda is not representative at all of any real user base for a specific device. For anyone looking for whether or not to install something or update. Id say take everything with a grain of salt and read many reviews. In the end its hpw you see the device.

Don't know what you're complaining about, ever since v30b was released, it completely changed my G3. The interface lags in Lollipop are gone, there was a 2sec stutter everytime I wanted to do something under 5.0. App switching is instant and the whole interface is running at 60Fps. In lollipop even the slide down menu was laggy as hell. I like the G4 UX and battery sleep time is actually a bit better than Lollipop. I'm extremely happy that LG kept updating the G3 and fixed a lot of problems, I will not update my phone this year. And I agree with @monkeypaws, a lot of people here praise stock based custom roms and kernels. The truth no one wants to hear on this forum is this : Stock based custom roms are 100% useless. You can do the debloating using Root Browser, you can install third party apps like App Ops or Kernel Auditor yourself. Custom Roms are not magic, a lot of people talk about how BUTTER SMOOTH this and SLEEP LIKE A BABY that and so on. Wake up, it's not any different than stock rom. So are custom kernels bumped to Linux 3.4.111 sources. Most of them are horrible in terms of battery saving because of 'Overclocking'. Apart from frying your already hot as a potato G3 on light use, you'll do nothing interesting to it.
The only noteworthy content in XDA are Cyanogenmods, AOSP, and the ports like on the Samsung scene, where the S6 edge features ported to the S5, or 5.1.1 ported to the S5 that was officially supported up to 5.0.2 only a few months back. There's actual work done, not some twelvie on Archikitchen feeling like a developer

For me,build 2a is still best. It's the most stable and battery friendly build for me.
Build 5 had poor battery timing for me and build 6 had several random reboots per day.Only thing I miss from latest builds is increased charging speed, but i can live without that
Gee thanks buddy...will give it a shot...
Hello everyone. I want to share with you my experience with Lg G3 2 gb version with stock android 6.0 mm. I have installed android mm on my device since 2 january. After one month of use i can say that updating to mm, for me ,was a very bad idea. I don't know how it is on other lg g3's but mine it got worse after the update. The camera is much worse than lp, memory management is just awful...multitasking became ussels...almost impossible, the phone is laggy and it stutter very bad. In my case lollipop was so much better than android mm. Only pros for the mm are the battery life and better looking UI. (sorry for my english, it's not my main language)
I find Marshmallow much better than Lollipop in the other hand.
Lollipop had bad battery life, performance was very inconsistent (sometimes it was fine, often I would get 10 second white screen hanging while launching apps like facebook, youtube, etc. ). But two worst things about Lollipop were often force closes of LG's launcher and invisible apps in Recents window. And all that was happening even though it was heavily tweaked to reduce the lag and preserve battery life. Quickcircle wasnt usable and practical at all (if you use it ofc).
Marshmallow has much better UI (all Lollipop UI bugs are fixed), performance is great and it's also CONSISTENT, just like battery life. I feel the camera is the same (IF YOU WANT TRUE CAMERA BUY A DSLR). Memory management is the same (it was good on Lollipop already). Quickcircle finally makes sense and it's practical.
If using stock roms, Lollipop is very unusable and need heavy tweaking until it's tolerable. Even then, Marshmallow is much more consistent and more responsive than heavily tweaked Lollipop and there are no random force closes.
If you are rooted, backup your existing Lollipop ROM, try out Fulmics MM ROM. If you dont like it, you can easily restore you LP ROM.
After all this different opinions i think i will wait for the global release. Fulmics 3.1 Rom seems to be good but maybe LG will fix some of their fails like knock code. LP is running pretty good for me so theres no real reason to upgrade
But thanks anyways!
I just wanted to say that xpirt managed to change the Knock Code in his MM Rom. Fulmics 3.5 has a 3 Taps Knock Code
So theres one probleme less. Maybe LG will fix their camera too
This isn't the best news.

We can probably safely say March or April. Oh well.
All kidding aside: llabtoofer just said within the next 3 weeks all you guys in Europe should have it. Enjoy

Nougat is not ready for prime time. Not impressed at all. My custom MM rom works perfectly. I tried Nougat. Uninstalled.
Looks like soon it would be the US unlocked users getting angry : why the heck we're using a buggy version??
Even now it's EU users are complaining : when the heck could we taste nougat...??

Maximus HD is based on leaked EU update. And I am not talking about that.
Maybe you haven't seen what does the dev of Maximus say about the upcoming EU OTA?
No one has specified what "buggy" even means... is it something minor like a laggy UI or a major security vulnerability like stagefright?
*bugs* is a bull excuse in regards to no updates
while while they're fixing these bugs *with N then why didnt they continue to update our devices on MM with the monthly security updates ?
Europe unlocked devices haven't had an update since October & that came with the august 2016 security patch what happened too September, November , December, January
this fixed version of N will be out in February according to llabtoofer will likely be 7.0, we probably wont see 7.1 until spring (htc ultra hasn't even released yet & thats on 7.0)

I'm taking about you said US users now will be angry about why they were left with a buggy firmware, and I'm telling you I used it with the stock ROM and I'm not angry about it. He said the EU build was more stable, that doesn't mean that the US was a bad build though and yes, it may be based on such firmware but I'm using it with the US one

Come on man, I am not saying US update isn't good. I am saying compare to EU update, US one is less responsive and less smooth. Been treated differently might make some users angry. #sense of humour#...
I am sure the US will also get the equivalent matching update around the same time
7.0 has been a mess, and even 7.1.1 has alot of problems, even on nexus/pixel devices. It would suck to be on 7.x and have that 30% battery bugg that alot of people experience. And thats just the obvious buggs.
7.x does not offer enough of a upgrade to make it worth having a buggy release. Esp if one is stuck with that buggy version for months.
I have the Nougat update on my T-Mobile HTC 10 completely stock not rooted and have experienced a few bugs.the day after I updated I took a picture and the phone froze went into a reboot and actually rebooted itself 4 times before it went back into the system. Had a random reboot another time and had an instance where my phone would not charge but a reboot fixed the issue

And please remember there's no OS nor app is bug free in the world. It is an excuse but also the truth.
I bought iPhone 7 last just want to experience a "smooth OS", but it freezed while taking a picture, battery drops very quickly and phone got every hot randomly... So yeah, back to HTC.

I tried N for a bit on Viper and had bad battery drain so I went back to MM and still had that battery drain, I found out Facebook has been causing bad battery so I uninstalled it and Messenger and seems to be much better. I was wondering if Facebook was my issue on N as well or if it was Android N causing it. Guess I will stick with MM for now.
I've been on Nougat for some time now (unlocked) and I have noticed any issues. What exactly is the problem?

Is your device US unlocked ? Do all your apps that auto sync or update do so while you're using battery saver, or while you're on data? Only way I can get gmail and other similarly syncing apps is on Wi-Fi without using battery saver

i meant to say that I haven't noticed any issues, but clearly you understood me. ?
Anyway, I get push gmail notifications as usual, no issues there. I'm almost always only on mobile data, and rarely ever use battery saver. I have an unlocked stock US model.
The only minor issue I've noticed is that sometimes I don't get notified of whatsapp messages (via the notification shade), if multiple are received at around the same time.
The only bug i've found was in the Settings.
If you enter it, press back button and then try to enter again, it'll take some seconds to show up.
Everything else is ok.
