Ever since the G3 got bumped. Has it improved?

I had the G3 back when it first got released .. Before it was bumped and ROMS and scripts could be made.
I was sick of the lag and how slow it was compared to my previous phone,, the note 3, so I went back to it.
I guess my question is. Ever since all these scripts and ROMs (and lollipop release) have been made. Is the G3 now a fast phone? Like by a long shot compared to the early days before anything was possible?

I have never exoerienced lag on G3.
Using 3 gig version, always on custom rom and it is completely lag free.

I must admit that I haven't had any lag either in my 3gb version either. But I'm not using any custom roms or anything like that. Just stock. I'm very happy with the device. I had more lag on my Sony Xperia Z2 than on this device. But I did notice yesterday once I had to do a battery pull due to the the multitasking window wouldn't disappear right after unlocking my device. First time it has happened, so I don't really mind.
But once again, lagfree on my stock unit.

Totally worth it
To be honest with numb it just made me love my G3 so much more, I was going to sell it but since now there are a lot of roms coming out and I can flash anything I want I would say it's worth it 100%

What is your opinion about Lollipop ? Should I update ?

Coming from an iPhone 4S, I am very glad with the Sony Xperia Z1C that I bought a few months ago to replace it. The Z1C is still running on KitKat and it works perfectly fine. It is not rooted btw.
Now I am considering to update to Lollipop, but I wonder if that would be wise. On various forums, e.g. the Sony support forum, I read some "horror stories" (o.k. a bit exaggerated maybe) about decreased battery life, overheating etc. after a Lollipop update.
I already asked for an opinion on the Sony forum, but got an, imo, rather meaningless reply saying that earlier updates also had many complaints and the started thread was locked almost immediately by a moderator after that reply.
Now I hope that I can get some advice here. Is there a more or less general consensus here about updating or not ?

I have absolutely no complains about this update. Still have great battery life, but no overheating or whatsoever. The phone is as pleasant to use use as before the update if not more

Opinions differ. Some specialists from this forum reverted from LP to KK for different reasons.
My personal opinion is that with every step ahead software becomes more complicated, investigates you and your activities in bigger grade and is more troublesome during rooting and personal modifications.
Since long ago my principal rule is: "Don't touch things which work correctly".
I am still on KK .108 however I tuned it in 100+ places to suit my needs.

I had crapy sound problem and don't recommend lollipop yet.

Exactly.
For me, update to lollipop is a completely waste of time unfortunately again on 5.1.1. Poor multitasking, camera quality worst than kitkat (whitish tone on captured pictures and viewfinder lag in medium or low light conditions), battery draining... I prefer stability, performance and battery of kitkat than smoothness or visual changes from lollipop

performance on LP is better than KK. see aututu, it got 2000-3000 points more.
remember its a phone, and its better than 90% of the phones out there. it will never be S6 edge or whatever.
i like the smoothness in 5.1.1. if it was KK it would stand still for a sec or two, makes it feel slow, like this that is covered in animations.
about multitasking, got no issues, FB and the chat are great, instagram is fast, skype and viber work nice. 2 years almost and still kicking.

5.0.2 was laggy, and poor battery life.
5.1 is quick, good battery life, good multitasking.
The only thing worse about LP is the camera refresh rate. It look lower than 20fps (with KK it looks to be 60fps).

From a technical standpoint, according to munjeni, who is well recognized as very knowledgeable in these things, KK is better, (.108 firmware specifically). He has a lot to say about it in his thread for his stock based LP ROM. Personally, I don't know much about all that, so for me it's more about user experience and trying something new. I like to go back and forth. I guess it just depends on what your priorities are.

It's exactly my opinion too buddy :good: and since, from what I read here, there is too much discordance amongst opinion, I think I'm going to keep faith to this mantra still for a long of time LOL

Well. This IS a point, especially if you have free time to spend.
Otherwise I suggest to root phone, tune sound, camera, fast dormancy, gps.conf, remove bloatware, use better battery stats to tune battery usage, install Xposed modules and do more similar actions.
No comparison to branded phone.

LP is great regarding the user experience (visuals and animations) and I was able to get rid of a couple of apps after switching from KK (lock screen notifications, bt watch keeping device unlocked -> smart lock). Performance and battery life are still ok and I can not notice any difference.
but ... if you are considering moving to cm12.1
you should wait until the wifi / bt bug has been fixed, which is a major problem
and there is an issue with AudioFX (equalizer) that keeps crashing, which is annoying

Where are all the ROMS?

I currently have a nexus 5 and I'm looking to upgrade. The G4 looks like a great option as it have more RAM better processor, better screen and mainly an SD SLOT!!!! I currently am getting by with 16GB which is then around 10GB usuable. My question is is this phone worth getting considering I would like a custom ROM. I'd be happy with CM12 but there doesn't look like much support, I can get this phone pretty cheap but I'm not sure as the support just doesn't seem to be here. Anyone with this phone got any advice? Look elsewhere or buy it?

I recently switched to the G4 (H811) from the S6 Edge back in October. I would consider it a good upgrade. The official CM updates are already rolled out and I've been using it as a daily driver even through the buggy (not complaining) Alpha and Beta stages. As a lot of other users have already stated, most of us considered the stock ROM good enough, especially with Marshmallow rolling out pretty soon. The only reason I switched to CM 12.1 was for the near stock look and the lag in the stock ROM. I've heard good things about the CTT MOD, eliminating lag involving thermal throttling. I used MicroMod777's debloated stock ROM. It ran smoother than stock in my experience. I'll be happy to answer anymore questions you have, given my experience with the device.

Thanks a lot. I really like this phone however I don't like stock. I am happy with CM12 though as it has all the features I use. How stable is CM? Are the bugs ironed out now? How is battery life and heat issues? What type of lag is it? Scrolling lag or gaming? I saw the mod but didn't read too much into it, also is over clocking an option via kernels?

CM is pretty stable so far, good enough for a daily driver. Trebuchet crashes every now and then and I've noticed some issues with the camera (besides the actual camera app, that's just AOSP camera in general). I'm not complaining, nor rushing the devs, but it's easily usable as a daily driver. To sum it up, bugs are present, but not bad. Battery life is iffy, I can get through an entire day with 2 batteries and sometimes a charge. I'd say it's around 3 hours SOT. Heat issues are way worse on the stock ROM, nothing too bad so far on CM. Lag on CM is little things like scrolling or keyboard animations, and apps crashing now and then. I haven't tried much gaming. Over clocking is possible.

if you guys use CM custom rom, which app use for camera? is the CM camera apps as good as stock to use all features of the G4 camera? or you don't care about photos, you just need other features covered by CM rom?

I think the issue is because of the bootloader and the fact that there are only 2 variants which is can be unlocked on.
I know CandySix is coming to the G4 though :good:

The other features are worth losing the camera. It's still great for regular pictures but don't expect a DSLR replacement. They're still working on getting the G4 Camera ported to the ROM.

you can use other 3rd party camera apps but you lose some features like night shot which is used by front camera as well.
also shutter time will not be more than 0.5s, stock goes up to 30s.
Its not clear to me how CM will make use of the colour sensor and laser AF. Are shots as quick to take, are they as clear.
Low light on auto ? this is buggy right now from the few samples i saw.
Whether unlocking bootloader automatically disables these features is not clear. Because if it does then its a one way process. You lose it forever.

You get 3h sot on cm or stock ?
regardless you should be getting more, on stock.
3-4h on data, 4-5h on wifi. If your brightness is 25% you can add an extra hour in there. This is normal with stock and greenify.
If you can't get that then you need a reset.
I've seen very little to no benefits accruing to battery life by rooting, roms or exposed. if you must go down that route its about features.

3h SOT on CM, less on stock. That's with greenify and screen at around 30% brightness. I'm not going to complain to CM development for those numbers, but I'll try one of the debloated stock ROMs and report back after a few days. Thanks for the advice.

Looks like a ghost town to me. Compare that forum to the equivalent G3 forum, even at the current date in 2014, and it was way more lively.
With every passing day it looks more and more like the G4 has been abandoned. I guess you can't blame the devs, LG are being pricks about the bootloader.

Pretty clear there is not much to choose from and even then they seem to have bugs. This was a genuine question no need to be cocky although I'm sure it makes you feel superior.

Thanks a lot guys, it was basically a choice between the G4 or a Sony Z5 both have little support, obviously the Z5 has only just been released so it's to be expected. I'm just a little disappointed as the G4 seemed so perfect for me hardware wise vs price, plus the fact the G4 uses the 808 as opposed to the 810 which has overheating problems. The Moto X pure is looking like a possibility for this reason now. I tend to keep my phones fairly long so I need something quite stable. I think I will hold off for now until support for the phones I'm interested in grows, unless I see something really cheap in the black Friday sales

I'm in the exact same boat man, G4 looks like the perfect phone in terms of hardware but the software situation is just depressing. We'll see how things pan out once Marshmallow has made it to all G4s, but if thing don't pick up I'll have to look elsewhere.

The Moto X pure has very similar hardware to the G4, if it's within your budget I'd suggest looking there once the phone has been out awhile and gained support.

What's is your usage like ? if its heavy then i don't think you can do better.

debloated if you have a carrier rom, its not necessary otherwise.
How long you had the device ?
People that can't get beyond 3h sot need a reset. something is running more than it needs to. a reset fixes it. dont just do a plain restore after, install apps in small batches and monitor.

Heavy usage. I got better in CM than stock. I've had the T-Mobile G4 since around late September. And yes, I need the debloated ROM because my stock H811 ROM is the carrier one. I've also noticed less lag on it with animations, particularly the keyboard pop-up ones.

Ah, then 3-4hrs of sot is normal.
was testing with youtube and speakers on max. 1 hr of youtube eats up around 27%. 3hrs of youtube like that and its recharge time.
With bluetooth it drops to 20%. Must be some more savings with wired speakers.
with screen off and just podcasts its 10%/hour.
So far the heaviest usage is recoding with 4k. Do that for 90 minutes and the battery is flat.
I got better in CM than stock. I've had the T-Mobile G4 since around late September. And yes, I need the debloated ROM because my stock H811 ROM is the carrier one. I've also noticed less lag on it with animations, particularly the keyboard pop-up ones.

I'm actually not sure, I'm almost always using it. It drains around 10% over night (about 7 hours) if I forget to plug it in. That's on the CM ROM.

Bootloader is still annyoing to unlock for most models/ not possible, also this phone has so many different models.
On top of that we got from Lolipop to MM quite fast which may also be a reason for the lack of roms.
If I'd be a Dev I'd rather not put too much effort in Lolipop roms for the G4 if MM is right around the corner.
Dunno maybe it will get better now

D851 worth getting today?

Hey guys, I'm not a must have flagship device or a crazy spender when it comes to phones. I tend to lean towards features, and developer support when it comes to phones. I'm still using the LG Optimus G e970 that I bought 2 years ago, and I think it's time for a change. The D851 has everything I'm looking for at a decent price, but I'm worried now after reading so many people are having boot loops, wifi issues, etc. Would it be a bad decision to buy this phone since it seems like it's facing a bunch of issues due to aging.

I just bought one last week. Refurbished. So far, so good. Still early to judge but this phone is so fast and smooth.
I am running stock with Marshmallow 6.0. I usually root but really I have no need to right now.

I got a mint used one with zero lemon 9k mah battery for 120, it's stock 6.0.1 rooted and debloated and works fantastic.

In my opinion, best phone for the price and features. I have had mine for nearly two years and it is still going strong. Just got a smart circle case with wireless charging and really happy with it. Developer support is also very good. I tried to run the Tmobile stock 6.0 but it was sluggish and Wifi calling could never connect. Using multirom, I can boot into LP for wifi calling if I need it. Fulmics is my main rom and I could not be happier with the features and performance.

Bluetooth is working perfectly with the stock Fulmics kernel for me. I had tried a different kernel and it broke Bluetooth so I reverted back to avoid issues.

Everyone keeps talking about Fulmics.
May finally root my phone and try it!
How is the battery life?

My local store has one still BNIB collecting dust on the shelf, I didn't find out till after I got their last BNIB G4 and they didn't have any current price for it as corporate stopped updating that price list. I'm sort of thinking maybe I should have got it vs my G4 because of potential bootloop issues but my G4 was manufactured in April 2016 which is apparently after LG fixed the hardware problem. We'll see. I have half a mind to call them up tomorrow and see if I can get a current price on it.
I had a G3 on Verizon but didn't have it long enough to really make it shine. VZW installs so much freaking bloat that its kinda impossible to fairly judge a phone sometimes. Spec wise its honestly pretty close to the G4 although my G4 out of the box is the fastest phone I've had on an OEM rom and its not even close.

Definitely. I have had mine (bought it used) for 7 months now and have had no issues. I would recommend rooting and flashing a custom rom. Makes the phone so much better. It has the removable battery which is great, especially since the battery life is so-so. I can get through a whole day with it with moderate use so I guess it isn't that bad.

It's still a good phone, but look into the moto g4, double LTE speed capabilities. and double charging speed capabilities. Gotta keep up with the newest features

LG G3 vs. G4 vs. G5
After watching dozens of YouTube videos making comparisons with these three phones, the G3 is still a great phone. The fact that you can buy one new very cheaply now is a plus. I am running Marshmallow now on mine with all of the latest updates. Stock 100%, but rooted and many of the apps frozen with Titanium Backup Pro. I NEVER have an issue with my phone. Battery life is excellent, I never drop calls, Wi-Fi calling works perfectly with my cable provider's router. The G4 and G5 look great but the "new improvements" are minimal at best. The newer models will cost you hundreds more, but the bells and whistles just are not there from what I have seen. An extra physical button or two would not sway me to upgrade this phone.

Phone is pretty good. My main criticisms are the phones heat issue and rather dull screen. I haven't run custom ,don't know how much that helps.
Can anyone comment on what you would lose going custom ROM? Currently running stock Marshmallow 30D.

As for heating issues -- only one thing will make the biggest difference: lowering the screen resolution to 1080p. That made the biggest difference in the world for me. But to do that, you would need to be on an AOSP rom.
Biggest thing you lose going custom is the camera quality. As for other things, with AOSP you lose the knock code to unlock feature (only feature from LG that I miss), and the LG apps if you actually like any of them. In general, you void your warranty by rooting, and you could run into some issues with some custom roms, Most common is lack of Bluetooth functionality, although many will have it working. It is a much greater experience than stock roms in my opinion and worth the loss. Worst comes to worst, and you go on a nice vacation where you need a good camera for pictures (i.e. hiking) then you could always restore your stock OS (backup is a must in TWRP once you are rooted) and use it for the vacation time, and go back to a custom rom once it is over

Actually if you're running Marshmallow there is a game optimizer mode that will drop the screen resolution to 1080p when gaming on stock. This is where most of the heat issues occur. There's also an option to reduce the resolution to 1080p for all apps. Both options require root.
That being said, even at 1080p the phone gets hotter than it should for gaming. The only other option I've found is the hardware thermal paste mod. Not willing to try it yet.

Actually if you're running Marshmallow there is a game optimizer mode that will drop the screen resolution to 1080p when gaming on stock. This is where most of the heat issues occur. There's also an option to reduce the resolution to 1080p for all apps. Both options require root.
That being said, even at 1080p the phone gets hotter than it should for gaming. The only other option I've found is the hardware thermal paste mod. Not willing to try it yet.

For me the phone got hot even with just multitasking. I really don't game too much and it was heating up like crazy. 1080p fixed all those issues for me. I felt as though performance was slightly better on 1400p, contrary to popular belief. The antutu score also showed that as well. Still like 1080 better though

I love the phone too, but I don't believe there is root yet for the latest 30E update, hoping that changes soon.

I have got to say my G3 is by far the best phone I've ever owned. I'm currently running Stock rooted 30D. I was thinking about flashing Fulmics ROM, but I read about losing of Bluetooth. I connect to my TV with HDMI Slimport adapter so I can play games on the big screen with my MOGA Power Pro gamepad. So losing Bluetooth is a deal breaker.
@aclegg2011 recently posted they're testing 30e Stock rooted.

Custom ROM for improving battery life and phone expérience.

Hello all !
I recently buy an samsung galaxy s9, I love it because of his size, today all manufacturers are racing for the biggest screen diagonal, but forget about the people who like compact phones.
the only thing I don't like is that the battery doesn't really last. I use some social networks like instagram or whatsapp to chat and the battery is not consistent enough for me, I think. (I uninstalled the bloatware app and made a maximum of optimization).
So I'm thinking about the solution of installing a custom rom. I'm doing some research and I like the pixel experience or the lineageOS.
The reason of my post is to ask you, you who know much better than me, is it really going to increase the duration of use?
Do you have any advice on this ? I read that you have to calibrate the battery after installing a rom but maybe you have other advice, a rom in particular, settings to do ?

Well I have a galaxy S9(5.8" size) and it's running NezukoOS with android 11. Pretty fluid and with light use I can get it to last me all day long, however I turn it off during night. If you really want more battery life, you should considerer using a custom kernel, as that is what is really going to improve battery life. The custom ROM will bring new features and make your phone feel different, but it usually doesn't improves battery life(at least the ones I tried out didn't help battery at all).

And another question to NezukoOS or general AOSP roms.. can you unlock the device by pressing the 'invisible' home button on the screen? Is this option still available in these roms?

I used Nezuko Os and Yes the invisible home button was working for me.. But i switch now from nezuko back to the stock ffirmware cause i love the one ui design etc..

Well I never used a custom kernel as I didn't had any problems with battery life, but I do know a ROM which comes with a modded kernel. It's call Noble ROM, and brings ONE UI 3 with android 11 to the galaxy S9. I tried it out and it works pretty good, and when you install it you have a modded kernel that will ask you if you want to improve performance or battery life, here is the link if you are interested on it https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...-03-2021-sm-n960f-fd-n-sm-g96xf-fd-n.4244747/ However if you prefer the stock Android I can't really help you, but for sure there are a lot of kernels on XDA forums, you just need to search one.

I also tried noble Rome, but every time it was very laggy and the interior assistant almost always crashed. I had to restart my device very often. My phone had also overheated and I uninstalled it again. no matter how often I did a reflash it was always laggy as described above

Oh yeah that's bad. My phone also overheated when I tried it however I thought it could be because I overclock it's CPU. My main problem was the camera didn't work almost all times and I needed to restart the phone continuously, so I went back to NezukoOS.
I also liked ONE UI however I don't know if that happened to you but my phone was very slow on ONE UI and animations almost all times were very laggy. That's why I start using AOSP, and also because I really like the new features.

I am also considering whether I should stay with aosp or go back to the sttock firmware. Both have advantages and disadvantages

I don't bo back because of various reasons. First and more important, it's starting to be obsolete and Android 12 is going to be released in August I think, which makes android 10 be 2 years old. Also this customs ROMs give a lot of features that I don't find on the original ONE UI, like caffeine. Finally, performance. My phone was slow and laggy on stock firmware but now its super fast, as if it was brand new. Hope this help you decide.

What do you think about arrow os? I am undetermined which one i should give a try. I prefer a very clean and hardly debloated os.

I dont like the Samsung stuff so i'd like to try aosp. I think i can live without volte and wifi call

I tried Arrow OS however I used it only for 2 days. The ROM was good and seem to be stable however it didn't have a function which for me was crucial, smart charging (charges your phone only to 80% to slow down its degradation) so I went back to NezukoOS. Arrow OS and AOSP are in general don't have bloatware and useless applications preinstalled however if you don't want a lot of features PixelExpirience(not the plus version) is going to be good for you. It's simple, very smooth and almost identical to a Google Pixel experience. LineageOS and ArrowOS however have more features built-in.
