HELP ME!!! How to recover lost images from OP3??? - OnePlus 3 Questions & Answers

I was trying to get the 3.2.1 update to install yesterday but it was failing thus i thought of locking the bootloader and unrooting it but i forgot locking/unlocking bootloader wipes data too. By the time i realized this, it was too late. I lost all of my data and most importantly the images of a hiking trip i went to a day before. I'm so gutted. Tried all kind of softwares i could google but nothing worked. Can you guys suggest any way that i could recover my images?
Thanks in advance.

I think you are SOL...sorry. There are not much data recovery tools for Android. At least that I'm aware of. Plus, you are dealing with flash memory, and formatted in etc, which is more difficult to recover than your typical NTFS partitions. I would check your Google account to see if any of these pictures were synced at all.
See this link...https://www.androidpit.com/how-to-recover-lost-data
Mobikin may help. But after a full format, not just a delete, it may not find anything. I've never used it. There might be some pay services if you really want this data back.

Thanks for your thoughts. Mobikin and most of the other softwares require phone to be in mass storage mode which is not possible with oneplus3

It doesn't? Have you enabled usb debugging?

Yup. I did. Didnt work

No mass storage = no file recover. Impossible to deal with a virtual disk drive.
That's why clouds are here, to sync and avoid losses.

[Q] Unbrick Note II N7100 XXDMB2 full device encryption after CF-auto-root

Hello,
I attempted to root my Note II N7100 with original ROM XXDMB2 and full device encryption, using CF-auto-root and Odin.
The flashing operation and the next boot all seemed to be fine, no errors reported, but at the dialog for full device encryption passphrase I can't unlock device anymore (the passphrase is refused).
I am afraid the root flash operation may have overwritten some data related to the encryption header or similar, is there a way to rebuild it / work around it since I know the passphrase? Maybe it is a completely different problem though.
The device consistently boots up to encryption passphrase prompt, still accepts to boot into download mode so I am confident it is not fully bricked.
It contains lots of precious pictures of my family, in particular my little son, and I really would like to avoid to have to do some kind of factory reset as I wish to keep those pictures.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Oh dear, 2 days now, no answer, really hope a kind soul comes up with a good idea as I would really be sad to lose my family pictures forever.
I am ready to pay someone if a working solution is found. I would only be able to pay the first person giving the solution once that solution has worked.
Thanks in advance!

I would think when you rooted ur device the new kernel doesnt have any link/connection with the encryption which was handled by the previous kernel also most likely as the whole system is meant to encrypted probably the hash values/checksums down the line have mismatched thus making the decryption impossible....I doubt if it would be possible to decrypt the device
1. Can u boot into recovery ?
if yes, can you mount the SDCARD & try to backup your entire ROM into the external memory card ? then load it to the computer ?
2. Find some tool .. there are some tool which can help unroot your phone hopefully maybe (a big maybe !) and theoretically somehow the unroot tool could/should flash the same exact kernel version you had earlier for your ROM version ... or find a way to extract the kernel from your original ROM from backup if have a backup and flash it to the phone...but how to go about that i dont know.. u will need alot of research and seak help

PS:Even in case mobile os corrupt or similar to your encryption/decryption problem& we need to fectory reset cloud storage is useful.
Can you install new apps on the phone?

To all that provided an advice, thanks. I have downloaded ajd flashed a stock xxdmb2 rom version (unmodified) in the hope it would return to original state and the phone works again, except that I unfortunately lost all phone contents - like out of factory. Strangely I had to flash it twice...
However contrary to my belief sdcard was not encrypted and it contained some worthy pictures - only part of what I had hoped to save but still, valuable records. I was sure it was encrypted and it was seemingly confirmed by the "drive not formatted" errors I encountered while attempting to read SD card under Windows but this was probably rather due to a driver issue. Indeed I could read (by chance) the SD card on another computer.
So technically it's not a real success but at least I recovered part of my family souvenirs and also my Note II which is still quite a valuable high-end device so it could be worse.

[RESOLVED] Formatted Factory - Lost IMEI - Please Help!

Hi, apparently some genius developing CWM decided it would be fun to allow the factory partition to be formatted with the newest versions of CWM (I'm on 6.0.4.6). Well guess what, I managed to format it on my GNex (it's quite easy to do actually).
Anyways, I've lost my IMEI data and unable to access mobile network (data connectivity is fine, however, surprisingly). Somebody please help me restore my IMEI because I don't have a nandroid backup either.
Thanks a lot!
Deleted, did a search on IMEI and found a bunch of threads. Reading them now...

Paul how did you manage to mess up your phone? Was it the same way I did? The thing is, all is not lost, I'm absolutely certain of that. It's not a brick until it absolutely and completely refuses to power up...
@osm0sis, can you please help me out here? I know there was even an IMEI changing tool but most probably considered illegal or something by the "powers that be" and hence removed most likely. I just need my original phone IMEI back, that's all. Thanks a lot!

I think I screwed up and flashed my phone with the wrong image (LTE instead of CDMA) that wiped the factory info and all the attempts I have tried do not do anything to get the phone back. I have a nice tablet that just upgraded to 4.3 via WiFi since it isn't on the Verizon network.

i have gone through your cwm thread. it's suggested taking it to a shop and getting it fixed with spt box or something. unfortunately, i can't do that because nobody in my location has anything even remotely similar to one of those. apart from that, i've done everything i could think of, flashed radios, flashed stock samsung rom, flashed google factory images. what else would you suggest?
i don't have a prior nandroid either

Problem solved. Took it to repair shop and got it fixed. Everyone that helped or tried to help, thanks a lot! Mods please close thread, thanks!
I was thinking more along the lines of restoring a backup and grabbing what you need to fix Factory from Radio, which was detailed a couple of times.
Glad you got it fixed, nonetheless. :good:

the guy connected it to a couple of external devices which in turn were connected to his pc, i guess one of them was something along the lines of an spt box, the other thing looked like a miniature spaceship, so maybe ET was involved in fixing it as well...
Not CWM's fault, though I definitely understand your sentiment. But "with great power.."
I make damn sure I know what I'm pressing Yes on when I'm wiping.

anyways, I was just browsing through my phone with root explorer and with twrp's file manager and surprisingly there's no efs folder there! is that normal?
i've taken a twrp nandroid backup to include efs as well but i'm thinking to take a raw backup as well as described here. i've also copied the /factory and /data/radio folders.
i was wondering whether flashing a stock samsung ROM might result in the creation of the efs folder? on yakju 4.2.2 stock google image right now...
Nah efs is the partition but it's mounted to /factory :good:

That's great thanks!., I'll clean flash 4.3 yakju in a day or two and see if the IMEI sticks after the wipes. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to backup using EFS Commander or the terminal/shell commands (got error both ways) so I'm hoping the TWRP backup (without MD5) and manual file copy should be sufficient insurance...

Phone stuck in boot loop. Any help greatly appreciated

My sister asked me for help and has a galaxy nexus 4 g. She really only cares about recovering photos ( she never backed up ) from her phone and not so much bringing it back to life. The phone will not boot anymore. It is stock, unrooted and still locked. I can still get into stock recovery and phone still charges. When I plug into pc it won't recognize the device and I'm sure she never turned on usb debugging. If I factory reset it will wipe my sister's photos. I am asking for guidance or basic plan on how to extract her photos or get the phone to boot up normally without wiping. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Well it sound like a Soft-brick. I don't think that there are any other options to recover from this kind of problem without wiping everything off, at least none that I know of. Wait for few more replies or go to a GSM service and maybe they can help you. If not, just get the Nexus Factory Images and try to flash them. If the photos are located on the "SD card" partition, a wipe of the data won't delete them, as wiping data from recovery has nothing to do with the "SD". Another thing you can try is to wipe cache. If none of the methods from above work I am sorry but you will have to get rid of the photos.
PS: Tell your sister to use Google Photos, as every photo is backed up in their servers and she won't lose them
Hope I helped

How to completely erase the memory? Does installing TWRP will do it?

Hello,
I have a potentially suspicious zenfone 2 (550ML/Z008D), and would like to completely erase it from zero.
As I heard, some "hacks" bypass any data wipe under recovery mode, make it harder to erase.
I heard that TWRP will do the job, is this the case?
My situation is a bit complicated, because i don't know anything about android until now.
Hi would like :
-Save my actual "user" data's (apps, preferences)
-Erase completely the phone, meaning that if there is a hack it will be erased
-Re-install android 6.0
-Re "lock" it, make it harder to "unlock" if any people have access to it (maybe bootloader have to be relocked, if an unlock is necessary for this process).
Any help would be really appreciated!
Thanks a lot community

The device was the one of my company. It's ok I keep it, but I'll work for the concurrent, so I guess it will be wise to do a real reset of the phone. I just want to get out of troubles. And I need your help.
Go to recovery and factory reset it your phone will be new even if u try TWRP it will do the same only thing is u can select what partition u want to wipe in TWRP....And I don't get what spy's hack bypass u are talking about....Once your device is factory reset nothing can be recovered...

i don't have twrp. simple. i want to erase the memory for truth, i know a lot of spying apps can stay even with factry reset (recovery mode and wipe data).
i did not installed twrp yet. but someone on reddit told me it will allow me to erase the memory better than with recovery mode.
troubles it's, if my company "spied" me and continue to do while i work at the concurrent, they can access to private informations. that would be really bad.

Your company cannot put anything on your phone what will survive a factory reset
Unless , they are hackers colluding with ASUS
Do a factory reset , when setting up again after bypass internet set up...click on app drawer and disable all and even uninstall the junk before going online.
What date of build is it , what build is it in settings ?

somehow there's some space to put anything you want.

Although , the Google chrome app that comes installed give me a bit of grief in the past ..so disabled that...in stock...
You can dump stock , go with the new lineageOS ...trouble is , unless your company are hackers ...or you are being monitored, nothing can stop them from doing so

Play Store Issues on Pixel 3 XL

So I've never had any issues with the Play Store before. Just a few days ago it was working fine. Now, I get the attached screen when I try to look for updates. I've cleared cache and data for the store, play services, etc. I've removed and re-added my Google account. Rebooted the device. I've tried everything I can think of. Has anyone ever encountered this?

+1 Can confirm that I have the same issue as well.
I haven't contacted Google yet because ultimately their advice is to format the device and that's a silly way to fix issues and takes so much time.
After a certain amount of time the updates listed under the Updates section will go away. My last one went away yesterday afternoon (Snapchat). If you don't have any updates to apps then you won't see anything there. There's nothing wrong with that. It's funny that you post about it because I just happen to take a screenshot of mine last night. It was empty like yours, but today I got one update, and now that one app shows.

How long do you think it would take to do a factory reset as suggested vs all the time you have spent with support? I assume you are bl locked and unrooted so you can't flash a factory image.

They will likely keep replying to you (from different "specialists") asking you to do a ton of extra work that has no more reliability than the methods you could think of. Like bobby mentioned, flashing the factory image would be the best 1st step, but if not possible have you tried side loading the OTA through stock recovery?

I haven't unlocked the bl in years so correct me if I'm wrong. You can't do anything other than sideload an OTA if it's locked? So the options, if that is correct, are what you said, OTA sideload or if it's not a VZW model (and the sideload didn't work) unlock the bl, that'll cause a reset, flash the full Dec factory image, then bl lock again. (another factory reset). Bet that'll fix the problem. And the whole shebang will take under an hour.

Pretty much, Bobby. If Verizon/locked BL, sideload current OTA (no downgrade possible). If you have a Google variant, you can still sideload OTA or unlock the BL (causing a reset) and then flash the factory image. If you go that route, I probably wouldn't re-lock the BL since stuff like this is as much a reason to keep the BL unlocked as rooting and other tinkering.

Great, thanks. Only thing is if the OP is as security conscience as I am then relock. If not leave it as is. Being able to recover with a factory image is the only thing I miss. It's a big one too but I'm on VZW so I have no option. He could always leave the OEM switch enabled if ever it was needed again I guess.
I'm curious how this gets resolved as he's not the only one with this issue.

Oh this will definitely take longer than factory resetting the device, but as an ex software developer, I have to see this through and make Google work. If they find and solve the issue, this will help others who have the issue or stop them from having the problem in the first place. It's a bug that needs to be fixed IMO and being on them about this is the way to go. Sure I could just go away and factory reset, but this way, they have to deal with it.
See the attached pic I took today. After installing an app, this appeared on the updates page. The white space is clearly a bug and it needs to be addressed. If they don't solve this by the new year and I can't get updates for apps I use a lot, then fine, I'll factory reset, but I think they should be aware of this issue and they should have to fix it.

It's not the factory reset, it's remembering all the passwords for the various apps I have, settings, placement of icons, widgets, etc. It is a pain in the a** to reset a device. Besides, I just got this thing set the way I wanted it setup in the last couple of weeks. I haven't even had it for a month.

I can certainly appreciate making Google fix this as well as your setup you currently have. However, I seem to recall that when I did a factory reset all the apps and wallpaper and location of icons were imported from I guess Google cloud? Passwords were not though. Time to pull out that yellow notepad and go over those. lol BTW, are you bl unlocked and have you rooted or modified the system in any way? That was not clear from you OP.

My bootloader is locked and I've never rooted my pixel 3 XL, yet I'm experiencing the same issue that the op is facing.

And this happened just all of a sudden? You have any thoughts on why or if perhaps an app screwed things up? Stock launcher? Some setting perhaps? Very curious isn't it? And since it's not very widespread it would be nice to know in order to avoid it.

Just to clarify, is it just a cosmetic issue with displaying extra white space on that screen, or is there some other functional problem?

The white space was never there before and is not there on other devices that I have encountered. Do you have the white space on your device? Also, updates are not appearing to happen properly either. The only reason I saw that one update is because I just installed another app and it updated one app right after that. I normally have numerous updates, daily.
Google has already admitted to and are working on this as a bug.

But.. But. 3 people with this issue and they are calling it a bug? Are they blowing some smoke your way? Is there a tracker for this? CSR are notorious for playing the game until you give up. Be wary. I say factory reset and fix it yourself. You have spent way too much time on this I fear. But it's your call at this point. Keep us posted.
