Hi all,
I just bought myself an eTong Android 4.4.4 car radio for my Honda Accord (they are all over AliExpress). The biggest problem with this unit is its limitation of 265MB of internal memory and the hardest problem is trying to communicate with the eTong representatives because they all speak chinese and a lot seems to get lost in translation even though the sales guys can talk some english.
I don't know how to root this device, if I did I would be putting something like SDFix on it so I could install apps onto an SD card and my problem would be solved. The device has 2 SD card slots.. one labeled GPS and the other labeled SD Card, however the system just sees it as 2 separate SD cards and doesn't have any real distinction between them. If you go into the apps screen there is no option to move it to the SD card either.
So my question becomes... Does anybody know how to a) root the device.. b) install programs onto any one of the SD cards without a root if option a is not quite possible yet.
use KINGROOT. APK

Hi, I seem to be having an odd problem with my Desire, I'm running a Stock Desire on T-Mobile UK, using the SD card that came with the phone, I had no problems until yesterday when the phone reported that no SD card was in it, it is acting as if no card is in it at all when using the Samsung card that came with it. First thing I tried was to put the Micro SD card in my Laptop, it worked, could read the files, so I was worried that the card reader on the phone had gone, they I found an old Nokia 512 MB card and tried that in the desire, it worked fine, no problems, so I'm not quiet sure what to do from here.
I was thinking backup the micro SD that came with the phone, format it in windows, and then see if it works, one question, what would be the best way to back it up?, are there hidden files that require extra software rather than just dragging and dropping in windows?
If not then I will buy a new SD and hope that works.
Thanks for any help
PS. I don't know if this is in the wrong section, so sorry if it is.
Since it can't read the card anymore, you can't backup apps. Format it with Android, or use SDFormatter.

No, you can select and move or whatever you want.
Hi to All,
After some search, i cound't find a solution to the following problem.
With jelly bean, the management of the external/internal sd card is at least tricky. I would like to install my apps by default on the (larger) external sd card, but without rooting my phone (not to loose orange cinema series, an app from orange france that doesn't work if the telephone is rooted).
I tried various possibilities without success, but i think that the right direction could be swapping the internal and external sd card by using adb or similar. Anybody has a good suggestion? anybody that succeeded?
Best,
Piero
I've been trying to find a non-root apps to external SD solution for weeks - it's not currently possible without root unfortunately. This is the ONE thing that's stopping me buying a 16GB SGNII but, unless the 32/64GB versions are released soon I'm going to have to give up and root a 16

Hi all, basically before i posted i read the [GUIDE] The Generic SD Issue (READ FIRST) post, but im still confused and lost.
Basically i have bought a huawei ascend y300 and Tesco Hudl [for budget prices these punch above their wieght in specs] well i also bought 2 SD 32gb cards and was going to load them up with music, tv shows etc but i cant.
Basically both devices say theres TOTAL SPACE 31.24gb and i can unmount / mount but i can only erase on my phone not the tablet. when i put the SD cards into my lappy it pops up with SD 31gb and i can put files on it and ive then tried it on my pc and works fine.
But if i use Apps2sd its saysthere is no external card inseted, yet in the storage setting it says 32gb???? Is there something im missing?
Sorry for being long winded, no sure on the tech terms.

Easy test
Hello,
Easiest way to test, get SanDisk product for comparison. They always seem to work better than others. If you have same issues then you don't have SD card problem. If SanDisk card works then your other SD cards are the problem.
I am assuming your device can support 32GB SD card.
I hope this helps.
I am aware that there are several applications for moving apps from phone storage to SD, but I am looking for one that would allow me to directly download and install apps to the sd card (even ones from PlayStore).
I have come across a couple of articles which require using ADB to change the default install path, but I don't want to go that route because they are mostly for stock Android devices so I am not sure if the method will actually work on the HTC One or make things worse?
One of those articles: http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-install-apps-onto-your-SD-Card-No-Root/
Unfortunately I received the 16GB version so it is not enough for me. I have an old 4GB Scan Disk which I am using right now but the phone tells me it's slow and I should go for class 10, so I'll be doing that in the next couple of days.
There are large apps and games on PlayStore which I'd like to download directly to the External SD Card, which is why I'm asking about this.
Thanks.
I have a brand new Tab S 8.4, received today. I discovered that I cannot write to or erase the external SD card with 1 exception. I can only perform operations on the external SD card if 1) I do it via MTP from my laptop or 2) using Samsung built-in apps For example, I can copy/rename/delete/etc. files using Samsung's My Files app and I can save pictures from the camera to the external SD card. Most downloaded apps (like cameras, document editors, browsers, etc.) will not save to the external SD card. To be clear, I can copy and move files FROM the external SD card using apps such as ES File Explorer.
I tried reformatting the SD card, even tried other SD cards, always the same result. Is there something wrong with my device or the stock firmware? The tab is pretty useless to me without ability to write to the SD card and I don't really like being limited to the stock apps. So, is this something I can fix, that Samsung can fix, or do I have a lemon?

OK, did that. All I learned is that I have to root the tab which I hadn't planned on doing. Grrrrrr. Luckily, I am technical enough to do it, but most buyers are not. IMO Samsung should be pushing back hard on Google about this. It involves tens of millions of their customers, plus those of all the other manufacturers as well. These devices ain't cheap, so if I spend my money on one, I want it to work as expected with stock software. There's no point in Google singing the glories of KK and beyond if the OS doesn't do what a normal userI needs it too. When LG did its OTA update to KK for the G Pad 8.3, it allowed writing to the external SD, proving it can be done from the device provider.
it just not with samsung... the problem are with kitkat. so every device that use kitkat will have the same problem. LG/MOTO/TC/whatever android device also got the same problem. except some play smart and include the edited platform.xml into their device.

At least via the Samsung-provided apps (camera, browser, file manager) it's possible to write to and erase from the external SD card. Still, it's a sad state of affairs this far into the Android game. And this business with tripping the knox counter when rooting really is annoying. I wonder what Apple offers these days ?
