I looked for 2 months trying to find the answer to this. For anyone with the same problem, if you get the dreaded "Google sync is unavailable, it will be back shortly." here's the fix.
1. Backup your contacts to a .vcf file using the export function
2. Delete all google contacts on your phone
3. Go to settings - applications - manage applications - Contacts Manager - clear all data
4. Re-sync using settings - accounts - sync now

I just update my DHD to 2.36 ver (whit RUU) and i must to reinstall some app. I must install again Last.fm app and on first start it ask me do I want to sync contacts form last.fm and i miss click no. Now i try to reinstall app but i no get this dialogue on begin I try to delete acc, and make new in acc and syn still noting. In last.fm, in it settings i can't turn it on.
How can I reset sync setting for last fm, or any other account in acc and syn. How to get that dialogue do I want and how to sync contacts?

I found solution for this...reinstall app(wipe user data too) and restart phone
I'm having trouble getting my calendar to work. I'm using CodefireX (the pmem version) with the most recent GApps package. When I load the calendar app, there is nothing there and I can't add any new events.
When I click on the settings button and click on my account, it says "no calendars," and when I look at the sync options under my Google account (going through the regular system settings menu), there is no option for calendar, just browser and contacts.
Edit: I also tried flashing an older version of GApps but to no avail.
Edit 2: Apparently it's a known bug. I missed it when I read the change logs. Please disregard.
Hello, I have upgraded my p6 to b506 and I accidentally deleted all of my contacts. I tried to return them with google sync but nothing happens. Any fix?
I have China Mobile version
Version: P6-T00
SW: 4.2.2 B120SP01
And having the very same issue. Contact Sync seems to be work but no contants appear into phonebook.
Wondering also why?

I managed to get contact sync working by installing the contact adapter sync from this thread:

For calendar, i installed google calendar from the play store and now my calendar entries are in place.

Here can you also find the Google Apps. Just install via the integrated file browser. Maybe you have to go to your settings -> accounts -> google -> sync contacts

Anyone else missing calendar sync in their OS? The option is completely missing from the account and as a result the calendar doesn't sync.
