Vanilla android doesn't support PC based sync. You may be able to get access to the SD card under Windows (doesn't work for me, however), but that's about it.
Best thing to do if you want to sync up your Android contacts etc is to get a Google account and sync to that. If you want to have a more complete backup, Titanium Backup provides a pretty decent backup to SD card, which you can then copy to your PC.
If you're looking for Outlook integration, you may be able to do it via an intermediate Google account, via http://mail.google.com/support/bin/topic.py?hl=en&topic=23333, or use the Exchange Server support built into Android if you have server based Outlook calendar and contacts.

[Q] Contacts not updating to Exchange [Solved: See Solution in first post]

Hi,
I have a problem.
My contacts are not updating to Exchange.
When I add a new contact via the phone (selecting the exchange account) it does not get updated to the exchange contacts. Any ideas what I would be doing wrong?
My Sync is on, background data is on.
System specs:
I am running MIUI Rom (v22) but had the same problem with opendesire before I switched. Now using Cyanogen, ROM version does not matter
Email.apk version: 2.2
Contacts version: 2.2
Now Solved:
Possible Reason: Changed ROMs too many times
Solution requirements: Exchange 2007 with Owa and internet explorer then you can do it yourself else you need to get your IT guy to do this.
Solution:
a. Go to OWA (in IE) and delete all instances of your android device from there under the mobile devices tab.
b. remove your exchange account from phone and add it again.
To test:
c. Add new contact,
d. disable sync and re-enable for exchange account from accounts screen.
repeat step D if contact doesn't get updated.
Any ideas guys???
Use the search ... there must be an topic with the same problem ... there is an link to an stock e-mail app whitch should work.
hi philj,
i only asked the question after i scoured the forum and google for about 2 hrs
I'll try and replace the email.apk and see if that helps
So I changed Roms, went to Cyanogen mod new RC.
My google account syncs two way perfectly not exchange.
Using touchdown doesn't help because you can't add contacts to it with either CAM card or from the accounts application.

Problem solved: google contacts sync

I looked for 2 months trying to find the answer to this. For anyone with the same problem, if you get the dreaded "Google sync is unavailable, it will be back shortly." here's the fix.
1. Backup your contacts to a .vcf file using the export function
2. Delete all google contacts on your phone
3. Go to settings - applications - manage applications - Contacts Manager - clear all data
4. Re-sync using settings - accounts - sync now
Worked beautifully for me.

[Q] No calendar sync option

I'm having trouble getting my calendar to work. I'm using CodefireX (the pmem version) with the most recent GApps package. When I load the calendar app, there is nothing there and I can't add any new events.
When I click on the settings button and click on my account, it says "no calendars," and when I look at the sync options under my Google account (going through the regular system settings menu), there is no option for calendar, just browser and contacts.
Edit: I also tried flashing an older version of GApps but to no avail.
Edit 2: Apparently it's a known bug. I missed it when I read the change logs. Please disregard.

Oneplus Three - unofficial cm13, missing stock email and exchange app - bypass

I Have the new oneplus three device
I have unlocked bootloader
installed twrp
flashed unofficial cm13
flashed arm64 gapps 6.0
this setup is missing the stock email app and calendar (yellow mail icon)
I need to bypass exchange security for an email account to prevent pushing down draconian security policies
any solutions here? I have a file called cm13.0exchange_fix20160416.zip but after flashing it with twrp it never places the files in the system/app folder like it should, any ideas?
I just installed nine mail, and this is an acceptable workaround for now. my calendar syncs, and I can keep my smart lock features and fingerprint scan. still would like to know what happened to the stock email apps.......
As far as I know starting with 5.1, Gmail handles Exchange sync and POP3/IMAP accounts as well as Google Accounts. I support clients that use Exchange with both Nexus and non-nexus devices, Nexus devices lack the stock Email app and have to add the account via Gmail, while most OEM roms still carry it. My previous Moto X with CM13 and Gapps had the same setup, along with the OP3, you should be able to sync calendar and contacts through Gmail, but I can't be sure about bypassing the security policy.
Nine works too
When you install GAPPS all the CM's default apps get uninstalled if a comparable Google substitute has been installed.
Workaround: go for the GAPPS with the aroma installer and you can configure this behavior.
