Inconsistent performance of Deep Sleep Battery Saver - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, guys. This is my first post and I am sorry if I miss any protocol before posting this thread. I wonder if there is anyone who faces similar wakelock problem as me? I just rooted my Note 2 and installed deep sleep battery saver two days ago. I have been consistently monitoring my device mode with wakelock detector. The saver app works well and helps my Note 2 to get into deep sleep mode most of the time but sometimes it doesn't work at all and my device is left awoken. I don't know if there are bugs in the saver app or not but I think I might be able to reproduce the wakelock issue by simply toggling my device from "Sound" to "Silent" and back to "Sound" again or by plugging in my earphone then plugging out again. Sometimes, charging the device can reproduce the issue. Is that possible that the issue has to do with kernel wakelocks? So far, I have consistently monitored the CPU wakelocks but I haven't seen any significance from CPU wakelock that might cause the issue. Besides, I also haven't monitored the kernel wakelocks details provided by wakelock detector yet, maybe I should monitor them too just as the CPU wakelocks. Anyway, I hope there are kind replies from the forum users regarding this issue. Thanks and Regards.

The temporary solution for me is to restart my device.

okay so if you are rooted why not install greenify and amplify apps with xposed installer.
deep sleep battery save doesn't works as good as greenify and amplify together.
as for your wakelocks problem, monitoring apps themselves keep wakelocks to gather stats.
my advice is to uninstall all useless app ,use greenify and amplify, use better battery stats ONLY if you must monitor battery(its shows you all wakelocks, cpu states, deep sleep time and other stuff)
and above all dont be ridiculously worried about your battery %age

Thank You for your kind reply. I tried Greenify once but I don't think I like it much as it didn't work for me at all when I was using it individually without Amplify. So far, I have not tried to reinstall it and use it concurrently with Amplify. As for Amplify, if I am not mistaken, the free version only may let me control very few wakelocks only (I could be wrong) based on what I read from the description in Google Store. Deep Sleep Battery Saver, on the other hand, is free and it works well most of the time.

its personal preference to use whichever method to save battery ,but greenify works for most folks.
and combine it with amplify, they sort of cover each other backs
i installed deep sleep battery app on my note 2 and core 2 phone and its didn't worked at all on note 2 but works surprisingly well on core 2 phone.
yeh amplify free version blocks most of wakelocks, and usually these are mostly what drain battery the most. if you have app whose wakelocks you need to block manually, you can go pro-amplify
regarding your greenify mileage, bro you need to configure it correctly and grand it administrator and other access manually, and use it with xposed framework for best functionality
i know it sounds like a lot of work ,but once done, you can sit back knowing that things have been taken care of.
good luck on your battery saving quest.

My phone is working on 384 MHz instead of Deep Sleep

Yesterday i installed CM 10.1.3 from official cyanogenmod site. First few hours i had big battery drain and i saw that the phone isn't going into DEEP SLEEP but only at 384 MHz. I thought that some app is staying on even with locked screen so i downloaded Clean Master and set it to kill apps when screen is off and also i clicked on "don't keep activities" from dev.options menu.
I discovered one bug on this rom - the NFC cannot shut down, is it possible to stay at 384 MHz just because my NFC is always on? If not, give me some suggestion please

Get rid of clean master. Get gsam and cpuspy from playstore. Sounds like you have cpuspy or something similar.....but gsam can tell you what is keeping your device awake. Then you can deal with it....or search on the app keeping device awake and find fix.

I don't know if NFC would prevent deep sleep, or if clean master would help ( I'd uninstall it ), but I've spent a lot of time researching battery life fixes, so here's some tips:
1. Get the Better Battery Stats app - it's essential. You're most likely going to look under the Partial Wakelocks section from the dropdown. That'll help you narrow down which apps are keeping the device awake. Kernel Wakelocks are important too, but require some research into what stuff means. Select your reference point ( Boot, Unplugged, etc. ), then try to avoid using your phone for a couple of hours from that event at least before checking this app to get better results of what's causing issues.
2. After finding which apps are problematic, you can uninstall them, freeze them, or do the following if you prefer to keep using them without hurting your battery as much:
Install Greenify and hibernate the problematic apps. Hibernating an app prevents it from running unless you start it.
For extra measure, also get ROM Toolbox ( not sure if you need the pro version ), go to "Auto Start Manager", and uncheck certain things for apps ( like Facebook auto starting on location change, for example ) to lessen app wakelocks. You can also use the paid AutoStarts app in the market with the red car icon if you prefer something simpler.
**Note: disabling certain autostarts can break a function of an app, or the whole app, until you enable it again, so be wary of that**.
3. I don't believe this is even an issue anymore, but some roms had issues going into deep sleep on multi-core devices. Eugene373's CPU Sleeper should fix that. I haven't looked into this much though, so not sure whether it works or not.
4. I found this thread on the Skyrocket forums really useful when my phone was losing battery while charging: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1759541 .
Also, to save more battery, keep your screen at dimmest system brightness when you can, and turn off sync, data, & WiFi if you don't need it. GPS *should* be okay on all the time, because from what others say, GPS only wastes battery if an app is using it, so if you deal with the app, the GPS is fine.
tl:dr;
Not sure if NFC prevents sleep or if clean master helps. Use Better Battery Stats to find wakelocks. Use Greenify to hibernate problem apps. Use ROM Toolbox's "Auto Start Manager" or AutoStarts to stop problem apps from auto starting.
Oh....another long time habit I have is to reboot after you unplug from charger....every time! This used to be a common fix.....and I still do it.

I tried your trick but it didn't work
Anyway, i downloaded GSAM Battery Monitor and also Greenify. I stayed like 1 hour and after that i opened GSAM and there was information that my battery drain is caused of Media Service. "Downloads" system app is working in background and it is preventing my phone to get into Deep Sleep. I tried to add downloads system app into Greenify but for this thing i need to get paid version .. anyway, i will not pay it
What to do now, at least now i know why i cannot enter in deep sleep - because of downloads system app ^_^

Titanium backup can convert any system app to a user app. Then greenify will see them. The catch 22 may be that it only works on titanium backup pro version. LOL
But check and see!

My note3 also had a deep sleep lack this week. The culprit was Clean Master itself. Probably they messed up something with the last update. Beware.

Android System battery drain

Hi guys! i need help, i have a seriously battery drain problem with the process "Android System", it consumes more than the screen! i tried everything to fix it but nothing works, i'm using latest bubor's cm11 kitkat rom, somebody have an idea...? my battery lasts 5 hours max, will appreciate some help! thanks!
try bubor's last CM11, there is fix for battery drain.
New member, please elaborate!
I too am having this problem. Unfortunately, I am not a developer or an advanced user. I am good with doing what I know, but do not have any developing experience or education. I saw that Bubor's cm11 was recommended on this which is the exact problem I have, but I'm not sure what that even means. If you can help me, that would be great! Thanks!
Kevin
My soloution
I am having battery problems too ,its kernel related, phone wake up too frequent and consumes battery..a way to fix it is with this app http://repo.xposed.info/module/org.t2k269.perapphacking with xposed installer installed.
You need to limit wakelock on apps that might wake your device it will give you some battery life.
Try greenify in google playstore. you can then define which app you want
to suspend.
Synchronization intervals can also be a problem!
Edit;
sorry i read again and you talk about android-system as the main process. That alone isn't enough to find out the root cause. You need to install an app like better battery stats or opg pro to find out the reason behind.
There you can see the apps causing so called "wakelocks". Those wakelocks prevents your device from sleeping which then causes high battery drain. So after you identified the app or apps use greenify to suspend them if you can (that means suspending a chat tool like whatsapp will prevent to receive messages until you start whatsapp manually).
Of course the kernel is a major thing when it comes to battery drain (e.g. bugs in wifi module etc) so it may be necessary to use another kernel or ROM but first of all i would recommend to start the above way.
Greetings

Best battery saver when screen is off.

Hi! I would like to know what are some good apks for saving battery when the screen is off. I have greenify right now and it works great. I have tried deep sleep battery saver and du battery saver and dont work much for me. I have great battery life but would like to extend it more when screen is off/locked. Thanks!
Get Skyhigh Kernel (root). All the rest is placebo.
Battery life is related to usage patterns, short of underclocking; no app can help you there. Turn off WiFi, Bluetooth, NFC and all crap you don't need, and turn them on ony when you need them. Change your screen timeout, so it turns off quicker when you put it away.
My ultimate battery saving tip is power off the tablet when you don't need it.
Xposed module Unbounce for screen off battery life.
Thanks guys I use Greenpower now and it does the job. I just wanted something that would disable wifi or gps when Im not useing a certain app after 10mins.
It's mostly sync and/or location. Turn those off and your tablet will actually sleep (and wifi off when sleeping setting).

My Tab S can go weeks with just a tiny % drop. Just disable all the Google crap, there are many threads on it. No greenify or other apps will do as much for your battery life.

Thanks for the tip! Yeah I stopped useing battery saving apps since drain more of your battery. I use greenify to hibernate most of my apps and only wake up till I open it. I will look into disableing some of the google stuffs. Lol I use the bing search app instead of googles.

On my old phone (2.3.4) I used Task Manager from ES
Do I understand you right, that we need both tools you suggested, because there is no "autostart" app that also disables services ?
Could you please give us an idea/list of disabled services and autostarts

The autostarts app just disables apps you dont want on when you just turned on your tablet. They still work when you open them. But for services, there are too many.

Insane battery drain in airplane mode

Every time switch on airplane mode, the phone drains a lot of battery, 50% overnight.
It's strange cause during the day it's fine, 5 hours of screen on over 12 hours of stanby.
does anybody experienced the same?

Use Greenify to better manage background appliciations. If you have root, there's a lot of XPOSED modules that would assist in maximizing performance and battery life by limiting background applications, and Greenify will become more powerful.

I do not have root. I think Greenify couldn't help 'cause the apps actually draining battery are amazon's or system apps too, and they can't be stopped or halted. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Well Greenify is wonderful in general. Everyone should use Greenify IMO. But you are correct in that Greenify cannot hibernate system apps without root.
Charged my phone last nite took of charge around 22:00 checked it around 730am still 100% great standby not sure about aeroplane mode.

Deep Sleep app? How to make it work?

Have the h811 and using the app but don't know if it's working. On slumber mode
Which app are you referring too?
The deep sleep battery app? That's the first relevant thing I found in the playstore. And the comments on it don't seem too good.
A lot of folks here will recommend the greenify app instead and picking the apps you want to go into a sleep mode until triggered to wake up.

With the screen off, you can just swipe down on the off screen to see the time. You will see that your mobile data is shut off. At least this works for me. I can clearly see my LTE symbol disappearing.

To be honest, I have. I also know that it's working because I swipe down when my screen is off and I see that my mobile data has shut off. Last night, I fell asleep without charging my phone at 67% and woke up to.... 67%, I was asleep for about 6 hours. I came from the Sony Xperia Z2 and kept stamina mode on 24/7. I was able to pull off well over 30 hours with that phone. Using deep sleep battery saver (which was based off the same idea as Stamina mode) I definitely noticed a difference in idle battery. Of course, once you get into any sort of task with the screen on then that's a different story.
The LG G4 already had pretty amazing idle times but I have a lot of apps that loves to wake up the phone when I'm sleeping. Before the app, I noticed that I'd wake up to maybe a 5% drain at minimum over the course of 6~7 hours. Sometimes, when my apps update on their own, I'd notice a significant drop of maybe even 10%.
I paid for the app since it's pretty cheap but honestly, I don't notice any real benefit to having the paid version. The paid version allows you to set some whitelist apps which is what Sony's Stamina mode allowed. However, if you're okay with not having that control then the free version is more than enough. Who knows, maybe some people will benefit less from it :/
I just want to make a point that I am also using it in conjunction with Greenify. I'm not sure if using the two really bears any great benefits but under my impression, greenify hibernates user apps while deep sleep can basically prevent anything from accessing data since it also shuts off mobile data. I can't see how using the two would hurt so why not? It looks like they both do different things that combined would be a very powerful battery saver.

I didn't greenify any system apps. I just greenified every single user app that could potentially run while the phone was not in use. I also used tasker to force greenify my facebook app the minute the screen turns off instead of waiting for greenify to activate. I also used kernel adiutor to change the big core's governor to powersave and then changed the LITTLE core's governor to interactive.
Like I said in a previous post, I most use greenify for user apps as I kind of don't want to touch system apps at this moment. I use deep sleep battery saver for anything else that could potentially dodge greenify (like system apps that tries to access data). As all these settings so far are for when the screen is off, the Kernel Adiutor settings are for helping with battery life when the screen is on. I don't think the tasker setting is necessary as it very well could just be a placebo effect but I don't like how facebook isn't hibernated immediately.
So to sum it up; the settings I used:
Greenify all user apps
Use tasker to immediately greenify select apps that are power hungry
Use deep sleep battery saver
Use Kernel Adiutor and set big.LITTLE governors to powersave and interactive
**I should mention that I have the T-mobile H811 model which has an unlocked bootloader with a custom recovery.

Awesome, thanks for the informative reply. One question, wouldn't putting the CPU governor on powersave make the phone run really choppy/laggy? Also, I have the Verizon G4 no unlocked bootloader but root.

Most day to day tasks are done with the "LITTLE" cores while intensive tasks are done using the faster "big" so you won't normally notice any lag since the governor for the littles is interactive. I figured the only time I would really drain my battery is when I'm using intense tasks that would utilize the big cores. You will notice a little lag when in really heavy apps like the camera but it's really not that bad - it's not like a "I'm-going-to-miss-my-shot-because-it's-so-laggy" bad. Just give it a shot and you'll see what I mean. I don't use my phone for gaming but I do use it for almost everything else including streaming videos and I don't notice any lag other than in the camera - which, like I said, isn't that bad. If you do want to tweak around with the governor though, I high recommend Kernel Adiutor since it is compatible with the big.LITTLE system (meaning it can set the separate governor for both big and little cores) unlike Rom Toolbox Pro.
While I can bear with the slight lag for the extra battery life, you may not be able to take it. Your mileage may vary I guess. Battery life is much more important to me than high performance since I don't do anything intense like gaming or heavy rendering and I'm always on the go so I'm willing to make that sacrifice.
For me deep sleep has been giving me battery drain issues and uninstalled it after two days of use on slumber and my custom mode that didn't let no app awake and also the force tune cpu and what not yet still battery drain. With it off battery drains much much more less
