You can update it by using Odin and if gets locked you can unlock it by using GT tools easily.
Mine I updated it from 5.1 to 6.0 without having to unlock it again.

Is there anyway to Unlock the Samsung Galaxy S3 T999 with Android Version 4.3 , I tried everything , Downgrade Firmware , Change Modem to UVLJC and nothing . Help please
Flash a 4.1.1 or 4.0.4 ROM and modem (not Odin, or you will brick), then follow the unlock guide.
Alternately if you have the phone thru T-Mobile they will unlock it for you if the bill is current, or you can buy an unlock code online for under $10.

It doesnt work that way either. It lose the imei with a different MODEM, you need to flash it again the New Modem to recover the IMEI. Please I need to unlock this device. Any ideas?
Where 4.3 is concerned, there is no way to unlock using any of the previous methods. Your best bet is to call T-Mo
Im having problems sim unlocking as well. T mobile sent me a code that does not work. Still waiting on there help. Suggestions?

Well after calling TMobile again and spending close to an hour on the phone they escalated me to "Someone Will Call You Back" LOL
So Today I downloaded the stock 4.1.1 and loaded with odin. Then Used the steps in the below thread to obtain sim unlock without TMobiles help.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2176719
I hope this helps someone else as this is very frustrating to go through.

sim unlock 4.3
You only have two options... Option 1, You wait until kikkat 4.4 become available for upgrade then unlock the phone with same code. Or option 2, you find the stock rom that came with the the phone which is the ice cream 4.04. Then use odin to downgrade and then you can use the same code.

What tool would that be (IOW, what is that tool called on the phones for which it is actually available)?
If you are absolutely cvonvinced that the phone is rooted, that it shows as S-Off when in bootloader mode, then I should think that you can install any of the dozens of ROMs we have here that are 4.4.2. Do you know if the phone has had installed a Recovery other than the default, such as TWRP or ClockworkMod?
No going to pick it up . Would it.be gard to get recover or simple as that goo app

Well I got the phone. He didn't flash gapps, but updated it to AOKP. I'm thinking I'd rather be on stock KK. My dad is coming from a DNA and going to AOKP is like asking him to walk on his hands and talk spanish.
Hello guys, i'm planning to unlock my phone's bootloader, since its my first time on my Zenfone(I only use tethered recovery to flash root and xposed, i also have experience of unlocking the bootloader before on my previous device Xperia ZR but done it in a official way) i was wondering if the unofficial method i'm reading on some sites won't void my Asus warranty?
If any of this links is the right tutorial for unlocking bootloader in a unofficial way, kindly tell me if its still working for the latest 2.20.40.184 LP Firmware:

Try it with the current firmware if it doesn't work then u can try dowgrading
U should see a white boot screen instead of black if its unlocked

Yes if they don't find it via other means then u r ok with warranty
I don't recommend flashing the MM Beta Firmware cause it can potentially brick ur device

Actually, i already tried MM Beta before but i got annoyed by the bugs and lack of root functionality before so i reverted back to LP Stock.
Gonna wait for the MM Final release instead, atleast now i know how to unlock bootloader when MM Final is release incase there's no Tethered Recovery yet. thanks again for the response and tip.

I highly doubt that the current bootloader unlock method would work on MM Official release cause it doesnt work on MM Beta
Maybe some new method will be sorted out:fingers-crossed:
Has anyone tried the King root method for 6.0? When I Check if root is available it says a method was found I just don't want to risk my phone breaking again
Interesting in curious if this works please update

They have mentioned more than once that root access cannot be obtained on MM unless the bootloader was unlocked !
So, don't get hopes on something that cannot be done ?
