Have a question... What's the main benefict of using a stock based ROM? It will have all stocks apps, and have functional 4k recording and all those problems aosp suffer, or it's just because it's based on the stock ROM?
Like for example what does Cloudy ROM can have, that another ROM that isn't stock based can't.
Thanks in advance,
Hope you understand my question

The "gimp" depends on which variant you have. Like the D855 has great aosp ROMs while others are getting issues here and there cause the 5.0 source hasn't been released for them yet.
So if you're one of those other variants, you can expect things like bad (or not as good) camera, sound issues (mainly music), not as good battery life (not major though) and modem/radio connection issues. That being said, some devices aren't getting those issues.
Also, stock is Kitkat while AOSP is on Lollipop. You gotta ask yourself if the extra features you're getting off AOSP are worth the bad things.
P.S.: I personally prefer AOSP but am waiting on source to use it as my daily.
I'm on 855, but I was talking about the stuff that I can do on Stock vs stock based ROM vs aosp ROM. Like 4k recording for example and duo window screen...

First, a tiny bit for Lollipop defenders. Yes, i always did a full wipe, always installed same apps set up in the same way manually. I always updated cust, rpm and tz to relevant versions. And i always gave system 24h to make all needed background syncs.
Official 5.0 is bad, because of:
1) Lags. Animation is still choppy. Applications are slow to launch, etc.
2) Heat. Phone heats up way more than on KK.
3) Battery. SOT is noticeably worse.
Since LL came out not too long ago, all AOSP roms based on it are still in alpha phase. I believe that most issues will be sorted out later.
AOSP LL is bad because of:
1) Lags. There is way less lags than on official LL, but there are sudden and unpredictable slowdowns.
2) Battery. It is worser than official LL, which makes it almost unusable. 4h SOT (in the same conditions in which official LL lasted 6 and KK 8) is bad.
3) Everything proprietary is more or less broken. Worse (Or none at all?..) low light algorithms in camera software, no Qmemo, etc etc etc.
My advice? Stay on KK for now. LL still needs a lot more polishing...

There are stock based (KK) custom ROMs that do just fine. I would definitely go with stock based atm. AOSP needs polishing.

I believe that most if not all AOSP ROMs are on LL.
Idk about D855 LL stock based ROM but KK performs great. Imo, just test them and see which one your prefer.
Hi,
I still have the original factory rom in my tab s SM-T805. And now, it is already high time to change it.
I checked that there is a very good thread about how to root it (thanks!).
Could you recomend me a ROM? I am after this requirements:
- Clean (without samsung's and others' crap)
- Stable
- Without unnecessary extra features that can make it slow. I just would like to be able to use "multiwindow" with almost any app.
Thanks!
You need to check the threads in the dev section. No one can really answer this question.
Thanks!
Personally it's PAC-MAN rom for me so far.
I've tried Iron ROM but PAC-MAN ROM running on Android 5.1.1 is just so freaking responsive!
Everything works so well except for the proximity sensor.
When I'm making calls with the device next to my ear, the screen is still on hence I accidentally pressed on unwanted buttons
and losing precious battery juice.
My battery life improved significantly as well!

Hope it helps

Anyone else have a suggestion for the cleanest most stable ROM? I am on Blisspop on my phone and love it if there's something similar to that.

I also recommend PAC-MAN rom. I have the T700 wifi model so the proximity issue isn't really an issue for me and since the brightness control is working now, I don't have any issue at all. Xposed and Viper4Android both work so I have everything I want that I can think of.
Is it PAC-MAN working better than IRONROM?

Both are great options, but if you have a 5GHz wifi band and want to use it, then you'll want to use PAC-MAN. For some reason IronRom doesn't support it. Also, PAC-MAN is far more customizable since it isn't using TouchWiz.
In the ironrom's thread, most of the people say that is it working... at least that what is said in the survey...
and sorry for my ignorance, whats the difference between using TouchWiz and not using it?
Just got a bit tired of little bugs in the CM13 based roms and thinking about switching back to CM11. The only concern is the lack of security updates after the maintainers abandoned the projects for newer android versions.
Did anyone here try downgrading? Or maybe never upgraded? Is it wise to do so?
Some of my issues with CM13 based roms which have put me off:
Insane lag when reciving calls
Adopting Storage doesn't work half the time
Front Camera crashes
Mobile Data issues
Lock Screen Wallpaper Issue
Music suspend bug
Battery drain Issue
LOL brother. I am still using CM 11 build 14/11/15 with Xcelerate kernel build 4/12/15.
I still used this OS as it gives me atleast 500+mb ram which I require a lot for gaming.
At battery 100%............(with airplane mode on)...wifi on After 3hrs of continuous wifi gaming my battery drops to around 20%.
So I guess battery life is good.......though i haven't activated any sim cards(that would be a different story)
I don't have any voice(call) related problem though. Only bug is HDR. Once a picture is clicked with HDR on, you have to exit camera to click again in HDR mode
I actually need a CM 13 rom which provide such performance.(I was thinking about Slim rom 0.4 by Aniket Lamba)
So if anyone can suggest me better rom then please let me know. For me stability & usability matters more than recent builds.
I always will appreciate any information whether good or bad
I used to like KK as it was last in the line of the Holo interface and it was the only 4.x available for our phone, so I used it for fairly long and didn't switch to LP until MM came around. Along with Xcelerate it was really good: decent battery life, smooth experience and fast charging. But now that I've grown to like the Material interface as well, I've been using MM more often these few months, especially Slim6, which I feel gives the same feel I used to get on KK: stability and smoothness.
KK is still one of my more favourite ROMs, but given that KK is mostly dead by now and there are more developments and features in LP and MM, I think I'll just stick to Slim6.

1) I don't get this
2) I don't use Adoptive Storage, heard it screws with WiFi
3) I don't get this (it has been fixed recently)
4) Depends on ROM
5) GravityBox (for AOSP MM), or this guide (which also works on CM13)
6) Disable MPDecision. Strangely when I downgraded to CM11 I was still getting the bug.
7) Depends on ROM
The issues I had with CM11 were generally the use of Apollo and the HDR issue as stated in the post before mine. And the music bug after downgrading. Apart from those I was happy with it, and I wouldn't mind a single bit to change back to it. I just don't understand the hate regarding KK, especially in the MIUI 8 thread...

Hate towards KK is only because most of the apps are working great in >LP than in KK. If MIUI with LP is given then it can be easily a great choice for armani. MIUI ram issues have sorted out but only thing is standby time(wifi on) is low.

The music bug persisting after the downgrade is what's keeping me back. I, too, don't use Adoptive storage for all the bugs it brings - even on AOSP. But this means I'm running out of space by the end of the month because of necessary evils like WhatsCrap.
The gravitybox mod is good to know, although I don't use xposed, but really is simply a hassle to effectively change your wallpaper - especially when I'm changing them every other week.
I've recently tried disabling MPDecision - the music seems to be playing fine but I can't help but notice sightly degraded performance all around.

Adoptive Storage is a hassle to set up: you need to format your SD card (which meant I had to shift everything out before converting it), and TWRP has no way to read such encrypted storage, so I didn't use it after the first time I tried it. Also you could do with regular housekeeping of your phone's storage; usually I keep WhatsApp images for a year before deleting them (after keeping the important ones and archiving the rest).

Xposed is very helpful, but if you don't want to use it then I won't force you.
Generally in those CM12/13 ROMs if I wanted to switch between lockscreen wallpapers I would leave a couple of those wallpapers in the /data/system/users/0 folder, just renamed to let me know which file is which wallpaper. Whenever I wanted to change them I just renamed them to the proper filename.

You don't have to leave MPDecision off the whole time: just disable it when listening to music, and re-enable it afterward.

Note: I don't have music stop bug in CM11 though( may be related to firmware version or kernel. don't know why different people have different bugs:silly

What I think is that the KK firmware/modem we all flashed for CM13 builds has something to do with the music suspend bug. This is probably the reason why downgrading back to CM11/12.1 doesn't seem to fix this issue.
Anyway, seems like I'll just stick with CM13 for now.

Well not really, as the same v7.0.5.0 is used for CM11, 12 and early 13 builds. It's most likely a kernel issue, given that disabling MPDecision fixes it somewhat.

Today, I went back to the Stock rom, Lg G3 marshmallow... even tho i have bloatwares of Tmobile and other apps, the performance is smooth, battery is good also i found that the phone doesn't get hot on the back like when using custom roms.
I have been using different custom roms, like N&N, Fulmics 5.3 and 6.0 ... etc but all had the issue of getting my phone super hot and not smooth as stock.
Are you using a custom rom for Lg g3?
If yes, which one and why you choose it over the stock? pros and cons of the custom rom?
Thanks!

I been off of stock for awhile now. I rooted my phone and flashed a custom rom within two weeks. Way too much bloatware on stock. I tried a few roms. My favourite was Dirty Unicorns, but I am on Slimsabre 5.1.1. now. I am considering trying Paranoid Android to see how it is. Plus right now I am running without gapps, which is another advantage to custom roms. My battery life has greatly improved and I love it without Google Play Services. I prefer the AOSP roms over even stock roms like Fulmics. I tried Fulmics and I wasn't really impressed with it. More customization I have found, and I like the custom kernels settings that are available. Only thing I do miss is the knock code feature. It was so much easier and faster to unlock the phone that way. I had overheating issues as well. Once I lowered my resolution to 1080p the overheating woes were done.

well.. AOSP has a big disadvantage for me because of the Camera quality, a lot of force close and the lack of features, IR blaster and keyboard...but i guess some were ported?... and i guess the knock code feature can be added through xposed? i remember seeing a module there.
Also, not sure i can live without gapps, for updates and looking for apps and also the voice commands, make the phone smart, useful and fun.
overheating issues with aosp?
At the end, we are going to end up with AOSP one day because of Nougat won't be supported by snapdragon 801... and CM is doing a good job with it but it seems that what they are going to port is just some features and the UI... which makes it quiet hard to leave the full stock rom for AOSP .

Yes the camera quality suffers but for me, I don't use the camera really so I am fine with it. The knock code from xposed only works when the screen is on, which defeats the purpose of the knock code I think. There is f-droid, and apk's that I use. Plus if I switch roms, titanium backup has my apps backed up so it saves the headache of having to install each one again. I've been getting away from Google do no Gapps is the first part. I am starting to trust open source more now. I had overheating issues but once I lowered the resolution to 1080p it fixed the issue.
Hi,
I bought used LG G3 (failry new), and since I've got it, I can't stop fiddling with roms from XDA repository. Got the phone with android 5.0, but the battery included was pretty bad, 1% drop every minute or less. Bought new battery, 1% drop on every 3 minutes, seems fine, at least to me considering the screen resolution. That would be 4-5hrs of SOT. I wanted to try android 6.0, so I flashed D85530B_Europe.kdz. Was testing it for two days and it seems that the battery usage was worse, and I realised that some of important apps that I will use don't support 6.0, so I've decided to go back to stock 5.0. Since in the rom file repository there are TONS of roms, all with similar filenames, I've read somewhere here that I can go with UK Europe General D85520I.kdz, and so I did. Now I'm on 5.0 (UK Europe General D85520I), the battery usage seems ok, but now my GPS is not working at all. Using GPS Status app, it sees 19 satellites, but can't connect to a single one! My fault was that I didn't tested the GPS properly when I took the phone, but I did one short GPS test with HERE maps, and it was working pretty bad, it was offline 80% of the time, so I guess it is a hardware issue.
Now, can you help me to choose the most stable, fast and most friendly on battery rom? Doesn't matter if it's LP or MM, if it is working without issues. Also I wanted to flash CM, mostly because they say it is the best in terms of battery usage, but I'm afraid to brick my phone. I'm also interested in Fulmics rom. Can you suggest the most stable and bug-free custom rom for LG G3?
Please include the filename of the KDZ file, because I can't make a difference looking at the filenames, I'm still not sure how do you guys do it.
Also, if you know how I can fix GPS, including opening the phone, I would be happy to try, GPS is the pretty important to me.
Thank you in advance!
Cheers!

OK, so what I'm thinking is that you won't care if its aosp, I recommend either crdroid 7, which is nougat and has exceptional battery life. You could also use Tesla N, which is what I'm using right now. The only reason I use it is because on OMS support and Pulse.

Thank you for your response, but honestly I don't understand all the terms you are using. What is AOSP? Where I can find CRDROID 7? Is it tested properly, means no issues with camera, bluetooth, gps, etc? Tesna N is also a custom rom? What is OMS and Pulse? Sorry for questions, as I've said, I'm lost with all the terms, kinda new with flashing Android.
Cheers!
Note with any roms cm13 and above that are aosp hence (custom roms) you will sacrafice 2 things. Your speakerphone, and your camera image quality. People you talk to on speakerphone will hear themselves echo when they talk to the point they cant stand it. The quality of your images will lower...when you send mms the quality on their side (the person you sent it to) will be lower. If your like me this is annoying that these simple things dont work correctly...dont get me wrong, they are excellent roms...cm13 based roms are quick snappy and really fast, and stable. I just wished everything worked...i am on fulmics 6.7...its a stock based rom that you can still mod to your liking...speakerphone works and has tbe stock camera...it is ported from the LGG5...i love it. And again...im not downing cm13 roms...they are great and these developers are awesome...it you want the best rom though were all functions work i would suggest fulmics definitly...another great one is xdaddebs 3.1.1. It is a heavily modded rom with the weight of aosp...super fast...almost went back to it the other day

Lastest crdroid 7.1 and tesla 7 everything is working properly...like i said with these custom roms speakerphone will not work correctly and camera quality will be slightly diminished

Most ppl dont use speakerphone...i however use it all the time
Thanks!
I will consider either fulmics or xceed kernel on stock 5.0, still undecided.
One issue stilll to solve is the non-working GPS, no idea can fulmics rom make it to work.
Cheers
Works for me...i would really suggest the 6.7 build though of fulmics...you download 6.6 then you install and then download the 6.7 file and dirty flash it through twrp

Well, I was on Fulmics 6.7 for two days, testing it in detail, and sadly went to 5.0 stock today (restored the backup from TWRD). I really couldn't stand the stutter in 4K video, and GPS couldn't connect to any satellites at all. Except these issues, Fulmics is an amazing rom, stable, smooth and pretty fast.
So, should I stay on 5.0 (UK Europe General D85520I.kdz) or upgrade to some 6.0 rom (for example D85530B_Europe.kdz)? Really not sure is there any difference between any stock 6.0 roms that can be downloaded here, I can only make a difference related to the file name. If there is ANY 6.0 rom that is IDENTICAL to stock and WITHOUT bloatware, I would be happy to flash it, but still not sure is it going to be 100% identical like the stock (proper 4K without stutters, good GPS, etc).
Although I'm quite sick of searching and testing numerous roms, doing that for the past week, I'm willing to try one more rom and to finally start downloading apps and to start enjoying using the phone.
Thanks in advance!
