Patching system image unconditionally T705Y - Galaxy Tab S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Im stuck on patching system image unconditionally on my Samsung tab s 8.4, im running TWRM v2.8.7.0 and im trying to flash cyanogenmod 12.1 but stuck at the patching image thing. As of now im just letting it sit on that but it has been on that for the past 20 minutes, i have not tried anything as i dont really know what to try. I first tried to flash cm12.1 LTE cos my device is the t705 but it said this device is not LTE its wifi so i got the wifi version and it got stuck, also i can not seem to reboot the device or power it down, i can only take screenshots.
Help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Factory reset the device and format the system partition then it should work.
It will still take a while with that message, but it should continue after a while.
Also you need to install the T805 version of twrp to install the lte cm rom.

Typo, I meant the T705 version, but I think you knew that.

I found the issue, I had to update my TWRP to 3.0 and it fixed everything.

Need help installing a custom rom in kitkat

Okay so after a boot loop because of some mistake when my device was still on 4.1, I installed a new 4.4 room from sammobile. I rooted my device, flashed a custom recovery and when I tried to install bliss rom, it failed. I tried to install vaniraosp but I'm still getting the same results. Logcat fails to generate and an error always shows up. It also says that my device is n511 when in fact it is n5120.
It looks like you flashed a 5110 ROM after going to kitkak.
You may have to repartition and start a clean firmware load again.

[Q] Nand write fail for rom flash SM-T805

Hi, I am in need of assistance. I have a Tab S 10.5 SM-T805 with rom XXU1ANF8
I am struggling to flash firmware for my sm-t805 using odin and stock roms downloaded from sammobile. I have tried various version of the stock roms as well as different versions of odin, but they all have the same result.
The result is either "NAND Write Start! FAIL!!" or "Setup connection.. Can't open the serial(COM) port." The order in which I do things might impact which error I receive, such as attaching the tablet first or selecting the ROM file first in PDA box.
Here is why I am desperate. Since this result was pretty consistent, I flashed TWRP successfully and wiped all the partitions, including the system partition. Now, there is no OS installed. Using TWRP I have attempted the 'Install' method of flashing ROMS, but now my error is exclusively the first type.
I read some of the other threads and attempted any advice relevant posted there. This is sort of relevant to what I am trying to do, but my system partition has been wiped. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/help/odin-flashes-fail-t3028264), so there is no relevance to enabling USB debugging for disabling reactivation lock. This is a guy who can do what I am trying to do. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/help/roms-flashing-advice-t805-t3031963)

Is activation lock off? That what causes it not to flash. The only thing I can suggest is transferring a custom zip rom and flash it with twrp. Or try another firmware from a different country.
Thanks for your response.

It was my observation that this activation lock is off by default on the stock rom. In order to turn this on, you have to register with a Samsung account.

Here's lollipop for T805, someone took out a few files which should fix NAND Write. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=59828324
Have you got the Samsung USB drivers installed? If you don't get the 'added' message when connecting the tab you wont be able to flash anything.

I am having a very similar problem, except my device is working properly. The only thing is that I can't flash the new Lollipop firmware because of this error.
Does anyone know how to solve it?
Thanks!

Idk then, I guess you got to wait for another firmware that comes to your country
Just flash the Swiss Rom then after it fails, boot into download mode again then Install and boot into twrp.
Twrp will wipe the cache and auto reboot. The device should then boot normally.
Is TWRP 2.8.6.0 chagallwifi ok for this procedur ? and can i flash the original swisscom ? or the cleared .tar without the two files ..... and when i in download mode ... wich kombo can i use for reboot in download mode again

[Guidance] SGH-T989 UPDATING ISSUE!

Good evening everyone!
I've recently wanted to update my Hercules from 4.1 (I know it's reeealy outdated) to version 6.0 Marshmallow.
So I did a few steps and now I cant' seem to go any further, and I need your help.
So far, I've done the following:
-Installed TWRP 2.8.7.0
-Used Odin to flash the TWRP mentioned above
Now, I know there are a few problems regarding this version of the TWRP on the Hercules, so I tried fixing it by using Odin again and flashing the updated 2.8.7.1 and even the 3.0 version that I found on some threads, but with no sucess.
I haven't even had the chance to install Marshmallow on my phone in the first chance, because I couldn't find any .ZIP folders on the TWRP instalation menu.
I really appreciate your help guys, I'm a noob at this and I'm just starting to figure what is what, I just need my phone updated. It's running so far atleast, so it's not hard bricked I guess.

I'm pretty sure I did everything I was intended to do. I installed Samsung Kies so I could install the drivers on my mobile, and then TWRP through Odin properly with the blue light showing up. After flashing it, it turned green and said PASS or PASSED. So I think I did everything right on that end, I can even access TWRP with no real problems.
I even tried to do a ROOT on my system, but again, I couldn't use ZIP or any other files on the TWRP installation option because they simply do not appear
bump
Watching this thread as I have the same problem.
I can boot to TWRP 2.8.7, but if I try to install, there's no file to install from.
I can go back to TWRP 2.6.0, and then mount the card and see the ROM, but every ROM I try fails. Something about non-virtual partitions if I try 4.4 or better, and error executing updater binary if i try 4.1

I don't know of any problems with any of the recoveries. However there are different recoveries for different roms which need to be used in a specific order and in a specific way, the first time that you virtually repartition your phone.
Have you gone through the process of applying the "virtual partition" and installing the modified "virtual partition" recovery? This is required for most of the MM roms on this phone (Hercules). The process is very well documented here http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2-tmobile/help/guidance-sgh-t989-updating-issue-t3414641 in the #2nd post.

No, I dont' take I have taken that step actually. I'm pretty new to this and I tried following every step correctly, but I know that I failed or skipped something at some extent and I've been trying to figure out what exactly, so I can fix it. I guess I need to Virtual Partition my phone then, could you post me the link do to so? Because I think you posted one that would take back to this post

I shut it down in TWRP then hold volume down and power to go into download mode.
My phone has gone backwards now though - it doesn't matter what I load in Odin now, it won't boot up. The SAMSUNG screen is on, with a progress bar, but it never gets to the end. It stops right near the end and it sits there until I reboot it again.

and if I'm on note 5 moar rom with patch.... no issue flashing right?
Sky-high made us a kernel? Sweet sadistic smiles, success! So happy. Anyone know if it'll work like the LP patch did for note roms, or does more need to happen first? Or do people just need to start trying and report back?

Oh I'm setting everything up right now for the flash! I'm so excited. Once I realized you linked to a note 5 Rom most of my questions got answered. My favorite part, the kernel was posted on my bday.
i tried wiping and clearing cache then flashing the rom and the kernel. nothing actually happens to my phone. i end up on the same home screen and apps i had installed on moar 5.1.1 with note 5 patch.
any ideas why wiping my phone doesnt work on twrp 3.0.0.0?

Update your TWRP.
https://dl.twrp.me/zenltespr/
yea I tried doing that with Odin and it would freeze mid way. I also tried flashing a twrp update zip file on twrp and that didn't work either.
you think I should flash with flash fire?
bricked my phone by trying to flash newer version of twrp with twrp manager
been trying to flash unbrick tar and pit file to get back up and running but its not working.

Last thing I can think of is when opening TWRP the first time. It asks if you want to make the system 'read only'. Did you select No?
I never got that message when I flashed twrp 3.0.2 to unblock... how do I make it show up?

Not sure. You can click mount and see what is mounted. I am not sure that will work. I am not sure exactly what you are trying to wipe, but mount the items you are attempting to wipe and make sure the read-only is unchecked.
Try this:
Check to see if oem is checked
Re-root via root tar/odin
twrp 3.0.0.1 from edge files post in general
Backup stock
Wipe
Flash Moar
Don't reboot
Flash skyhigh kernel
Flash xposed(don't have to)
Reboot
Allow it to boot loop a couple time (from sky kernel)
Give 5-10 minutes to boot
I just did it with no issues and I've personally had more luck with 3.0.0.1 than any of the others.
heres my issue...twrp doesnt do anything for me (all versions) whether i wipe or install
so i used flashfire to flash the rom and the kernel at once and it finally displayed aroma installer (wouldnt get that in twrp)
however, after it in stalled i got stuck on boot screen
the only fix for this was flashing unbrick aok3 tar file which brought me to stock
i put on twrp as a recovery again starting fresh unrooted and it still doesnt respond to any of my commands
i think i will try flash fire on stock one more time and see what happens since its the only thing that is responding

Your on Lp bootloader that's your issue.
Download Marshmallow tar from the general post I made for rooting Bpg1.
Flash tar and follow post.
twrp. 3.0.x.x is more for marshmallow. You need to be on 6.0.1 not 5.1.1.
Don't use fireflash on this device.
Fireflash is more for phones with locked bootloaders like Verizon s4 on the of1 update.
Fireflash isn't really up to date with our phone and could easily brick your device.

Stuck at "Patching System Image Unconditionally" when flashing CM12.1 via TWRP

Stuck at "Patching System Image Unconditionally" when flashing CM12.1 via TWRP
Just got a Note 4, proceeding with the usual root and installation CyanogenMod ASAP
Everything was going smoothly until the actual flashing of CyanogenMod, whenever I try to flash it, it just gets stuck on "patching system image unconditionally" and doesn't progress beyond that point
Steps I've taken so far:
1) unboxed phone, was running Android 6.0 (I think, maybe 6.0.1)
2) Rooted with Chainfire's Auto Root
3) Flashed TWRP 3.0.2-0 via Odin 3.09 as per TWRP's instructions
4) Ensured that I could boot both to the stock ROM and TWRP
5) Copied cm12.1 and gapps to Note 4's internal storage (sd card hasn't come in yet, normally I put it onto sd card)
6) Did default factory wipe from TWRP
7) Attempted to flash cm12.1, ran into issue
I didn't make a backup of the stock ROM so now the phone has a recovery but no actual OS, as I had to pull the battery out to get it to do anything beyond being stuck at the patching system image step
I'm redownloading cm12.1 in case maybe there was a problem with the .zip itself, I know it's bad practice but I never check md5 sums
I've found other threads that suggested flashing the stock ROM for some reason, but they were for other phones and I'm not sure if it's related to the Note 4.
I've seen some mention of the bootloader being locked, but I don't know how to tell if the bootloader is locked or not. I see the same exact boot screen that I saw with my Note 3, S4, S3, etc. Could the issue be the bootloader?
I've also found this thread, but I can't get TWRP to mount in Windows, it keeps saying the driver failed to install. MTP transfers worked fine with the stock ROM was still there, but for some reason it doesn't work with the Mount option in TWRP. I'm downloading the Android SDK so I can try using adb
If anyone else has run into this, can you advise me on what to do from here?
EDIT: Nevermind, fixed it. Changed system partition's filesystem to F2FS via TWRP, and this allowed CM and gapps to flash with no issue. Now booted into CM But hopefully this will be helpful if anyone else has this issue
EDIT2: Buuuuut now the WiFi's not working. It just gets stuck at "turn on WiFi" but nothing actually turns on, and the on/off button for WiFi in settings is grayed out. IT NEVER ENDS
CyanogenMod Thread
Reddit Thread
EDIT3:
WiFi and Settings Issue seems to be resolved
I think the problem had something to do with the baseband version
As per Trex's post (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=69520362&postcount=2), I had to revert back to the OK1 baseband
Now everything seems to work fine
As for TWRP not working and just going to a black screen, I redownloaded it from the TWRP website and it worked fine
So now both TWRP and CM are installed and working, WiFi works, and Settings don't crash.
Now I've encountered an issue where the camera doesn't focus, and I'm wondering if there's still some plastic film on the camera lens, but I've been picking at it and nothing is coming off and I'm afraid of damaging the plastic if I keep trying...

You must flash 5.1.1 ok1 bootloader to get wifi work
I suggest you first flash 5.1.1 firmware in odin
Then flash twrp. Tar file in odin.
Then make full wipe
Flash cm rom + gapps
You will get clean rom install without any errors
Hope this will help

Okay I'll give that a shot. Are "5.11 ok1 bootloader" and "5.1.1 firmware" the same thing? And do you know where I can find it/them?
Just flashed OK1 via Odin via this thread, but it's just boot looping over and over
EDIT: Did a simple factory wipe and it's working fine now. Currently running unrooted Stock 5.1.1, Baseband N910PVPS4COK1. So I'm basically starting from the beginning, whereas before it was on 6.0 but now it's 5.1.1
Am now rooted but I can't get TWRP installed, I flash it and try to boot to recovery but it just boots to a black screen
Issue seems to be resolved, edited original post

Okay I'll give that a shot. Are "5.11 ok1 bootloader" and "5.1.1 firmware" the same thing? And do you know where I can find it/them?

It's working now, I found another post that had all the various stock firmwares on there. Now the issue I'm having is that my camera doesn't focus at all, but I don't know if it's a hardware or software issue. I never checked the camera before rooting the first time. Gonna try going back to unrooted stock again but if that doesn't change anything, I might have to take it to a Sprint store and get a replacement. Hopefully they don't notice the KNOX trip... lol
