Missing AdbWinApi.dll
Hi
Thanks for the rooting guide for the HTC Desire 530. I'm a little stuck when trying to unlock the boot loader.
when I try to run the fastboot.exe it tells me i'm missing the AdbWinApi.dll file. My Java. SDK and HTC sync manager are all installed and up to date. Is there any way of getting the dll file required or am I doing something wrong?
Thank you in advance

OEM unlock is not even in Developer mode in 6.0.1. HTCdev wouldn't even get you the token without it enabled. Sunshine don't work for Desire 530 as well. How you get it to working?

It is on my variant, which variant do you have?
jpoblocki77 it not hard to root, but every model phone have a different method, even same manufacturer phone can be different, let alone different AndroidOS version. HTC is usually very good in letting you root their phone. But carrier blocked the process as well, like the Desire 530 for Verizon. They omitted the OEM unlock setting for you to not use HTCdev bootloader unlocked method, thus can allow rooting on your phone. HTC change fastboot bootloader to their download mode when power off and then hit power with volume down.

I'm in a situation with my HTC One m7 4.4.3 Verizon where:
- I'm S-OFF
- Bootloader is locked
- Stock Recovery
- su no longer available due to OTA upgrade
Does anyone know how I can once again unlock my bootloader?
I have tried following methods but none of them worked:
1. reset lock status. It doesn't work because I don't have su anymore and I don't know how I can install it with stock recovery.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2475914
2. flash custom recovery TWRP using fastboot, but I'm getting FAILED (remote: not allowed) error, probably due to I'm still in locked bootloader.
3. tried running Sunshine, but it thinks that I'm already rooted and is looking for su.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2792487
so, the challenge is: how do I get my unlock bootloader back while on S-OFF without su installed?
Any help is much appreciated.

s-off > unlocked bootloader. you dont need the bootloader unlocked to flash recovery. If you are s-off you have full control of phone.
what command are you using to flash recovery? when you do "fastboot devices" in bootloader what does it say?

cool so fastboot is seeing the phone.
follow this post and see if you can flash recovery via RUU:

Thanks much.
If I understand it correctly, flash RUU will wipe out the phone completely, is it true?
I'm holding this method off as the last resort to try after I exhaust all other options.

I think you're correct on having hboot unlocked. I'm used to engineering hboots from the past. Where it was required to unlock before flashing recovery. With the standard hboot, I guess you need to flash the insecure boot IMG, so you write to system then install su to unlock. Glad you got it working though.
Happy flashing.

I honestly never used towelroot so I can't answer that, but it almost seems like it should from this thread.
[Android][Unlock/S-OFF] SunShine for modern Motorola & HTC devices
How to use with TowelRoot:
If you are having difficulties with TowelRoot, or SunShine saying you are not rooted, you need to use a specific version of TowelRoot. The version on his main page does not currently work with HTC.
First go to http://towelroot.com, and then from that page go to https://towelroot.com/tr3.apk (hot link blocking, cant go straight to the apk).
Then install TowelRoot, and click "Welcome" three times. This will open the hidden "modstrings" option. Change the modstrings to "1337 0 1 0 4 1" and click "Make it Ra1n". Then run SunShine. After SunShine reboots your phone, you will have to repeat the process before running SunShine the second time.

If your device is S-Off as you mentioned, you don't really need to unlock bootloader to flash recovery. Just use the RUU mode to flash a firmware.zip with your CID/MID matching in android-info.txt and put the custom recovery in that firmware.zip.
In fact you only need the android-info.txt and the recovery.img only, no need other things. Main point is flash it in RUU mode, then you can boot to custom recoveryto install root/SuperSu
or use the 0P6BIMG.zip method

yes, it is. I did it to my new M8 a couple of weeks ago. I'll post what i did shortly.
Edit: Here is what worked for me. I was S-On, and did this to get unlocked and s-o ff without using HTC Dev
1) reboot device into System (might be unnecessary, but i always like to start with a reboot)
2) Install Sunshine and run it. It will give you temproot before it starts the process to s-off your device. You can cancel the Sunshine process after it performs the initial check on your device. After you do this, do not reboot until after you do step three or you will lose temproot.
3) Once you have temproot, follow these directions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2708571
I hope that helps. Consider donating to the Sunshine guys since you're using their temproot functionality.

That is what I suspected (that you don't need to unlock the bootloader once s-off).
Why won't the usual "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" to install custom recovery work in this case?

Never go deep on why ... but fastboot command like fastboot boot and fastboot flash need an unlock bootloader to run command, so I guess fastboot oem rebootRUU will temporarily unlock the bootloader to execute the command

I tried going into download mode and then doing "fastboot boot recovery.img" so that I could take a nandroid in it's current stock form before flashing the TWRP recovery. All i got was a "Start Downloading" Prompt and when I'd select it, the device kept saying "Under Flash" over and over again. Any idea of what to do or do I have to take the plunge and flash the boot with the recovery image?

you can't boot recovery
you need to flash TWRP 2.8.6.4 beta
Make a nandroid and save it to your pc
In TWRP Terminal use this command
Code:
mount -t ext4 /dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/system /system
Reboot recovery and your ready to start flashing SuperSU / roms

8. How do I backup stock recovery prior to flashing TWRP?
You can't. The "fastboot boot" command appears to be disabled on the M9's ABOOT, so TWRP must be fastboot flashed over stock recovery. The firmware zip included in the OTA will include a usable stock recovery image. That can be extracted and flashed after stock system is restored so that the OTA can be applied.

Follow this guide by KingInTheNorth to unlock your bootloader and root.
Just a small note: if you're on a 5.1 stock rom, you need to enable OEM unlock in developer options first.

As long as its not a verizon branded phone, you may be able to unlock it at www.htcdev.com/bootloader.I say may be because im not sure about a demo device, and whats different on that than a regular phone.

the difference is that i can not store any data in the phone. the app named "demo" keeps popping up automatically. and when it does my all data is gone like my contacts, messages, even the pictures.
in settings there are some option which i can not change, like i can not lock the phone or enter in the security section.
The phone is international version, i tried to unlock it from htcdev but for that u must be able to enter in FASTBOOT nd that OEM option in developer setting must be enabled. i am not able to enter any of those. No fastboot option in Settings. nd when i boot to Bootloader mode there is no option like fastboot. i hope this will make u understand what im trying to say! thannks
I dont know if its a demo thing, but general m9's dony even have the oem option in developer settings. There is no fastboot option to select in the bootloader, you just use a cmd prompt on your pc while in bootloader to type fastboot oem get_identifier token. Mabey i still dont understand.
In settings - display and gestures look for daydream and see if it gives you the option to shut it off. Or go to manage apps find daydream and see if you can disable it. I believe demo mode is part of daydream. Also may be called basic daydream. Also look for any other apps that say demo and try to disable them.

I've flashed the recovery, all that I need to do now is click "Perm Root" to push supersu.zip onto my phone, and then use the recovery to install the zip. However, when I click perm root, i get the following message:
failed to copy 'su/supersu.zip' to '/sdcard/supersu.zip' permission denied

After I go to the recovery, I see supersu.zip there, and I flash it using the recovery, but I don't think it is a full and proper installation because when I enter supersu from my phone, it is telling me that "binaries" are not installed. I am assuming this is because of the denied permissions. USB debugging is definitely on. Any advice?

Does it also tell you to click a button to update the binaries? Do that.
Also, why are you using a toolkit? Rooting the M8 is super easy.
I always suggest to never use toolkits unless there is no other option to gain root. Usually for cheap third world devices like Micromax.
EDIT:
Here:
Go to this link, and download the "UPDATE SuperSU.zip" onto your phone.
Flash it in recovery.
Find it in your app drawer and open it.
Update the binaries.
You are now rooted.

If you are running Lollipop, the SuperSU version that comes with the toolkit is quite obsolete, and won't work anyway.
Just download the current (2.46) version SuperSU and flash it like xunholyx says.

What happens if you type the command: fastboot devices
The response should be the phone ID; which corresponds to your serial number, I believe, so do NOT post it.

Why are you trying to flash in recovery mode? You need to be in fastboot mode to flash via fastboot.
Have you got the proper fast boot drivers?

thanks, news asap.

Hello there,
After unlocking my bootloader, flashed a new recovery twrp I tried to enter the recovery mode. It keeps showing a red message saying "This build is for development purposes only" and after a while reboots to bootloader menu without allowing me to enter recovery mode. Any guesses?
Thank you in advance!
Which recovery version did you flash? And what did you do to enter recovery mode?

Hello,
It's the twrp-3.0.2-2-pme.
When phone is off, I push the volume down and the power button to enter to download mode, after that boot to bootloader and to recovery. That is when an HTC logo appears with this strange red message and after a while it reboots to bootloader mode.

Does download mode show that it is Unlocked for sure?
You may need to do the RUU for your exact model to get things right again.

This phone is new to you I assume since you stated that you've just unlocked the bootloader, but your CID is changed to SuperCID and that wouldn't be done without some previous modifications?
You have a Sprint device (according to your MID), so SuperCID is useless. You can only use Sprint firmware on a Sprint model.
What does it say next to "OS" in download mode? It should be x.xx.651.x
I would suggest you run the newest Sprint RUU. The RUU will wipe your phone, but since it's new to you that shouldn't matter. Plus unlocking the bootloader already wiped it.
Click on this link.
Scroll down to the "Manual System Update Instructions" and read them. The RUU download is at the end of the instruction.
After you've run the RUU, flash TWRP 3.1.1-0 again and it should work.
EDIT: I forgot to mention the red warning "This build is for development purposes only". That is nothing to worry about. You get it after you unlock the bootloader

Yes it does.
I'll try to put the stock RUU again and flash directly the twrp, without unlocking the bootloader.

Thank you very much for your time,
So, if I get it right, I put the stock RUU again and without unlocking the bootloader (as I previously did), I will flash directly the twrp. Right?

Once unlocked, the bootloader remains unlocked forever or until you give Android tools command to relock.
Running the Sprint RUU will most likely fixxxx it...
And yes, after you have it running right, boot to download mode and flash the newer TWRP that someone here recommended.
Then root with SuperSU or Magisk v14 and above, or install a custom rom from great choices here.

No. Leave the bootloader unlocked. You don't need to relock it, and it should remain unlocked after the RUU has run.
You can't flash TWRP with a locked bootloader

No need to be sorry.
Don't bother flashing TWRP first. When you run the RUU it will install the stock recovery and TWRP will get overwritten.
Run the RUU, then install TWRP after.

I put the stock SPRINT RUU, flashed the TWRP, wiped data, adb pushed the supersu.zip file into the phone and flashed it. After the flash was successful I reboot the system but it isn't setting. After the HTC logo on the starup it reboots automatically to bootloader.. :$

I'll send you a PM to ask for some info to check if your device is indeed a Sprint one. With SuperCID enabled (and s-off obviously), it's hard to tell what has been done to you phone.

Hey,
I have already solved this problem, but thank you very much!
Now I have another one:
I put the stock SPRINT RUU (because my cell phone is a sprint unlocked), flashed the TWRP, wiped data, adb pushed the supersu.zip file into the phone and flashed it. After the flash was successful I reboot the system but it isn't setting. After the HTC logo on the starup it reboots automatically on bootloader.. :$
