Help finding correct ROM - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all,
I recently bought a "new but unboxed" M8 off ebay which was sold as unlocked. It came with 4.4.2 but did not have an update button (it was literally missing) so tried to update it manually.
I have tried numerous RRU's and Stock ROMs but none have succeeded to allow me past the bootloader while the RUU.exe just fails each time error 155. The only ROM which worked was Skydragon but wish to go back to stock Marshmallow for OTA.
I get the feeling my phone is actually a US variant Sprint by looking at the codes, but please correct me if I am wrong ? It is also a developer CID of 11111111, so should be able to use any ROM ?
Here are the details
C:\HTCM8Rom>fastboot getvar all
(bootloader) version: 0.5
(bootloader) version-bootloader: 3.19.0.0000
(bootloader) version-baseband: 1.09.20.1112
(bootloader) version-cpld: None
(bootloader) version-microp: None
(bootloader) version-main:
(bootloader) version-misc: PVT SHIP S-OFF
(bootloader) serialno: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
(bootloader) imei: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
(bootloader) imei2: Not Support
(bootloader) meid: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
(bootloader) product: m8_whl
(bootloader) platform: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
(bootloader) modelid: 0P6B70000
(bootloader) cidnum: 11111111
(bootloader) battery-status: good
(bootloader) battery-voltage: 0mV
(bootloader) partition-layout: Generic
(bootloader) security: off
(bootloader) build-mode: SHIP
(bootloader) boot-mode: RUU
(bootloader) commitno-bootloader: 8a0f02ff
(bootloader) hbootpreupdate: 11
(bootloader) gencheckpt: 0
all: Done!
finished. total time: 0.034s
It is also rooted.
First thing - should the "version - main" be blank like this?
The MID seems to point to a sprint carrier but I am in the UK - will this affect me?
I have gone through an entire folder of different stock roms/recoveries etc but feel at a dead end.
Error codes I have had are : 41 model id check fail 24 parsing android-info fail RUU error 155 unknown
So in short - what are my options here?
Do I change the MID (is this safe?) and get a corresponding set of ROM, Recovery and Firmware?
I have followed these guides - http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/tutorial-how-to-stock-stock-twrp-t3086860
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701376 and many, many others! (For which there are no files for this MID)
I had been trying the following as I had misread my MID of 0P6B70000 for it.
CID HTC__001 & HTC__J15
MID 0P6B67000
6.21.401.1
I feel so overwhelmed with the sheer number of different versions/models I would really appreciate some help.
Thanks in advance,
Hiijinx

Yes it's a Sprint phone. You need Sprint firmware for that. 6.20.651.3 is the newest for Sprint. If the firmware doesn't contain the 651 part, then you can't flash it to your phone.
Your version-main is blank from using an outdated TWRP that had a bug in it (2.7.x.x) Use TWRP 2.8.7.0 or newer. If you flash new TWRP, then firmware after, the version-main will show your firmware version properly.
I'm not sure if your phone will work on another network besides the Sprint network. Maybe, if there is a CDMA carrier in the UK, it might work. But I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't.

Thanks for the informative response, this should help a lot.
The phone worked on Skydragon (except the phone wouldn't ring when called like it was on constant silent mode) which is why I decided to attempt flashing it to stock.
Is there no way to unlock it to get rid of the Sprint? Its not a network I have ever heard of here in the UK. Really annoyed at the eBay seller, luckily I haven't left feedback yet so might just complain.

I don't know if there is a way to SIM unlock the Sprint version. It should never have been purchased for use on any network except Sprint. If the eBay listing was at all misleading about this (claiming that it was unlocked, Euro version, etc.) you may have some recourse through eBay, if the seller will not give you a refund or exchange (you should definitely try the seller first).

People always confused with MID 0P6B67000
Sprint is 0P6B70000
This 0P6B67000 is middle east/egypt variant, running also x.xx.401.x but the one for normal EU.

Wow. To tell you the truth, I glanced and saw 70000, probably because I didn't know about 67000 and my brain just focussed on the "7".
Thanks for the information. I'll look out for it in the future.

here it is not mentioned about your reply; it's about the bottom part of the post #1. the answer given by you is exactly correct. I think your brain focuses on numbers correctly.

[Q] Cellular network not recognised, trying to revert to complete stock

Hi,
I realise this is a fairly basic question but I am completely out of ideas on how to fix my HTC One.
Basically, I had a fully working phone, but after some flashing, rooting and general messing my phone does nor recongise my sim card, or anyone elses. In fact, when I put in my sim card it says 'tap to complete set up' but the networks that come up are not my own. (proximus, tesco mobile and one other I can't recall.)
I'm looking for a way to revert my phone to complete stock, factory mode, locked, etc. because I feel this problem is unfixable otherwise.
If anyone has other suggestions please enlighten me, this is becoming beyond a nuisance and I really don;t want to buy another phone.
You might not have to, It seems like the Radio/Modem is corrupt or changed.
Search for a new one on the Development forums and flash it.
I got that message and it wouldn't go away before when i restored the M8 from GPe to Sense using the
firmware file 1.54.401.5-W_Splash.zip
It's problem was mostly a radio problem. i recommend to flash RUU 3.28.401.7.
Try this:http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/development/ota-3-28-401-6-t2899900
as always do research before flashing.

Can you post the output of using fastboot getvar all (making sure that you remove the IMEI and serial number) and we can then go from there. Chances the guide is already here somewhere

Spot on! OK, the guide you need is on my signature. Step 1 you don't need (unless you want to 'lock' the bootloader) so go to step 2 and you should be fine!

okay so i've hit an issue, in step two it asks for me to reset my CID to whichever CID it came with. I have no idea what that was, is there any way to find out? Also, I tried change it to one of the CID's you listed and i get the following :
C:\adb>fastboot oem writecid HTC__002
...
(bootloader) Start Verify: 0
(bootloader) Input CID is not super CID
(bootloader) Start Verify: 0
OKAY [ 0.028s]
finished. total time: 0.028s
Thanks again for your responses!
Use HTC__001 (it's the unbranded one on most EU devices). And what you get is normal (it's just elling you yo've not set the CID to Super CID), use the command fastboot reboot-bootloader after you've set the CID to confirm it's been changed
Okay I have good news and bad news!
I did all the above and afterwards I tried a couple of different SIM cards from different cellular networks in my country. The only network I could get working was Vodafone?
Any reason for that? I wouldn't mind but Vodafone is 3 times more expensive than my previous carrier!

What version is your phone? Do you have a full RUU to flash? Why did you use a toolkit instead of manual install? What recovery for what version of the phone did you try to install? Can you open a command window and use the command "fastboot getvar all" to give us some details on your phone model? be sure to delete the IMEI/serial before pasting the output here.

Agree with the previous response that we need more info.
Namely, getvar data, so we can see the version (CID, MID) of the phone, current firmware, etc. As well as what RUU file (exact name, source).
Also, any error messages or what wre the exact results of trying to run the RUU?
I also agree that flashing an RUU zip (or just about anything) thru a toolkit is a bad idea. Flashing manually is not any more complicated (at least, not by any significant degree) and a toolkit just constitutes an unnecessary middle man, that I've often seen cause problems in itself. Biggest reason for this, is that the toolkit hasn't been update in over a year (going on 2 years!) and its outdated components cause many issues on even remotely current software/firmware.
I have same problem please someone help me its request

How can it be same problem as OP ? Your problem is installed wrong ROM for your device variant.
You asked where to find your correct firmware and I linked to you to correct section for your device variant
http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/htc-one-m8-unable-to-correct-firmware-t3446792
But .. now you installed a GSM RUU on CDMA device... the biggest mistake.
Change back MID to original then install Sprint RUU. If you're lucky enough, Sprint RUU will unbricked your M8.

Your phone is the CDMA version M8, that is a fact. Choosing other carriers has nothing to do with it. Being the CDMA version M8 means it supports CDMA, in addition to some GSM and HSPA bands. Its intended for use in the US with the Sprint network, and will give you limited results elsewhere. Really, its the worst M8 version to buy; and I wouldn't recommend it to any international (non-US Sprint) users.

How to update my M8 S-off SuperCid and TWRP?

hello guys,
I bought this used M8 last night, it was on Kitkat 4.4.4 with the 3.30.651.2 firmware and I wanted to update it to marshmallow (ota not available). I tried this one HTC_One_M8_GPe_Marshmallow-6.0_MRA58K.H9.zip throught the recovery, no error during install, after finishing it, it says no operating system installed, ok, I tried with terminal (adb) it says couldnt load the zip, ok, tried this 0P6BIMG_M8_UL_M60_SENSE70_MR_HTC_Europe_6.12.401.4_Radio_1.29.214500021.12G_20.72.4196t.01_release_464360_signed.zip, error with hboot,ok, tried this RUU RUU_M8_UL_M60_SENSE70_MR_BrightstarUS_WWE_6.12.1540.4.exe, it says firmware not compatible (I dont know why since I am s-off and super carrier!?)
the seller told me, the phone is from UK, T-mobile unlocked, but the firmware says its a Sprint one.
All I want now is lollipop or marshmallow, not kitkat !
can you help me please ? just tell me where I messed up, I have some knowledge with android (samsung and LG) but I am kinda noob with HTC (my first phone)
thank you !
NB: the bootloader is unlocked

You still need to match MID (not just CID) to run an RUU.
But its a good thing you did not successfully run those RUUs. Since your are most likely the Sprint version (based on the firmware number), it would have resulted in a brick (radio brick) if either of those RUUs installed.
You can't run other version RUUs on the Sprint M8, or you will brick.
To verify you have the Sprint (and I'm pretty sure already) do fastboot getvar all, and post the output (delete IMEI and serial number).
here it is
C:\Windows\system32>fastboot getvar all

Yes, its the Sprint version. The product name (m8_whl) along with the main version number confirm this.
If the seller claimed it was T-Mobile, its incorrect. Depending on what you want from the device, this can be a big difference. For instance, you can't convert the Sprint version to be international (as already mentioned, running another version RUU will brick it). You may consider returning the phone due to incorrect, misleading description; if that is an option.
If you do choose to keep the device, you can update with the MM Sprint RUU at the bottom of the following page: http://www.htc.com/us/support/htc-one-m8-sprint/news/
Thank you my friend, I thought when the phone is S-off and superCid it means its like a full unlocked international version, I learnt something today , now I am gonna follow your link and give a feedback later.
one last question, is there a risk for losing the simlock after the update ?

m8_wlv is Verizon device
version main & mid is WWE device not Verizon
i believe you need to change your mid and flash stock firmware for your device then flash the RUU which meant for your device

Actually, the MID shouldn't matter.
With SuperCID, the MID check is bypassed. It's worked that way with the M7, M8, and M9. With the HTC 10 though, MID must be changed as SuperCID doesn't bypass the check.
Flashing the latest Verizon firmware should be enough. The RUU would only be necessary to run a stock ROM. If a custom ROM is going to be installed, the firmware flash will be enough.
He/she should make sure to flash a full stock firmware and not a "no wipe" version though, since the boot.img (stock kernel) will be removed on a no-wipe firmware package.
@xunholyx
thanks for make it clarity
but is there any thing else should be worried about after flashing WWE firmware over Verizon firmware

Well, flashing GSM firmware onto a CDMA device is NEVER recommended, so I do understand your thoughts here. And I do agree that running a RUU would be the best and cleanest way to convert back. Changing the MID back to Verizon's should not be necessary, but truthfully there is no reason not to. The OP should stick to Verizon firmware only, so the MID being changed back to 0P6B20000 would probably be a good idea. :highfive:

Well, I hope they know what they are doing. Because the phone was all kinds of messes up, and not every repair person would know how to fix it (if its even fixable). Someone at some point (if not you, then a former owner) tried to flash the unbranded Euro firmware to this Verizon device. The result is usually a radio brick, and the damage may be permanent.
Most that person can do, is flash the Verizon firmware and RUU (as others have stated) and hope it works properly after that. Unless they are going to replace the whole mainboard.

You shouldn't be trying "a lot" of RUUs. You should be trying only the correct RUUs for the Sprint M8. Flashing RUUs for other versions is dangerous, and can lead to permanent damage to the Sprint version M8.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2729173
Did you buy this phone? And you received it with cell data not working? If so, you should return it to the seller (if possible) rather then messing around with it (possibly breaking it worse, and voiding any possibility of return to the seller).
Also, you should delete IMEI, serial number, and MEID from your post. These are unique to the device, and should never be posted online.
All the RUU files that i had tried for the same model ONE M8 WHL
No I didn't buy the phone but it's my job to make a software for the phones
When I received the phone cell data was working but the problem was there is no traffic when you turned on the wireless
But my problem now there is "no baseband"

This still doesn't tell me which RUUs you tried. There are 14 RUUs on the thread I linked. Which ones exactly did you try, and in what order? Did you use the exe or zip method (and if the latter, was it by htc_fastboot, or SD card method)? Did the RUU(s) install completely and successfully, or were there error messages? If there were error messages, what did they say exactly?
Basically, your posts are short on details. You should be specific and detailed as possible, when asking for help.

Understanding that English may not be your native language. But I don't know what that means "there is no traffic". Can you try to explain another way (again, more details may help).

Where are you seeing "no baseband". In the getvar you posted, it says baseband number 1.09.20.0119
You also did not delete the personal details (serial number, IMEI and MEID) from the getvar output, as I previously advised.
I'm so sorry for being late

Is that the only RUU you tried? Before you said you tried "a lot of RUU flash files kitkat or lolipop " and when asked which RUUs you tried, you list only one. So one of those statements is incorrect or incomplete.
Hard to diagnose the issue (or may give incorrect advice) is we don't know exactly, step-by-step, what you did, and the state of the device at each step.
One important example of this: Are you absolutely sure you only flashed Sprint RUUs? It's a known problem, that if you tried to flash a non-Sprint RUU or radio baseband, that it will result in a radio brick (possibly permanent, but usually can be fixed).

I am still wondering about the original state, where you said: "When I received the phone cell data was working but the problem was there is no traffic"
I asked before, what you meant by this. You still haven't explained (only given the current state).
Again, it's hard to properly troubleshoot the issue, when it's pretty clear we've only been given a portion of the info.
Thanks for keeping in touch
These are the RUU files that I had tried before
RUU_M8_WHL_L50_SENSE60_SPCS_MR_Sprint_WW
E_Harman_4.20.654.10_Radio_1.09.20.0119_NV_SPCS_1.52_003_release_418492_signed_2

According to XTC2CLIP support all of M8_WHL flash files are Sprint or sprint and harman
then I tried this file
RUU_M8_WHL_M60_SENSE70_SPCS_MR_Sprint_WWE_Harman_6 .20.654.3
I'm so sorry maybe I didn't explain my problem exactly when I posted it
"" I am still wondering about the original state, where you said: "When I received the phone cell data was working but the problem was there is no traffic"
I meant there was no traffic when you connected to wifi there was no data transfer and this problem was solved by flashing the latest file
Now my problem is there are no imei and baseband in the normal mode but in the fast mode are exist
Try the older RUUs, like 2.16 or 3.30, and see if that fixes the "no baseband' issue. If so, try to RUU back to a more current version (6.20) and see if the fix "sticks".
Of try to flash the firmware only, and see if that helps (not exactly the same as flashing an RUU, so be sure to read the instructions on how to flash firmware). Firmware and instructions are on the same thread as the Sprint RUUs, which I linked earlier.
