[Q] Cellular network not recognised, trying to revert to complete stock - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I realise this is a fairly basic question but I am completely out of ideas on how to fix my HTC One.
Basically, I had a fully working phone, but after some flashing, rooting and general messing my phone does nor recongise my sim card, or anyone elses. In fact, when I put in my sim card it says 'tap to complete set up' but the networks that come up are not my own. (proximus, tesco mobile and one other I can't recall.)
I'm looking for a way to revert my phone to complete stock, factory mode, locked, etc. because I feel this problem is unfixable otherwise.
If anyone has other suggestions please enlighten me, this is becoming beyond a nuisance and I really don;t want to buy another phone.

You might not have to, It seems like the Radio/Modem is corrupt or changed.
Search for a new one on the Development forums and flash it.
I got that message and it wouldn't go away before when i restored the M8 from GPe to Sense using the
firmware file 1.54.401.5-W_Splash.zip
It's problem was mostly a radio problem. i recommend to flash RUU 3.28.401.7.
Try this:http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/development/ota-3-28-401-6-t2899900
as always do research before flashing.

Can you post the output of using fastboot getvar all (making sure that you remove the IMEI and serial number) and we can then go from there. Chances the guide is already here somewhere

Spot on! OK, the guide you need is on my signature. Step 1 you don't need (unless you want to 'lock' the bootloader) so go to step 2 and you should be fine!

okay so i've hit an issue, in step two it asks for me to reset my CID to whichever CID it came with. I have no idea what that was, is there any way to find out? Also, I tried change it to one of the CID's you listed and i get the following :
C:\adb>fastboot oem writecid HTC__002
...
(bootloader) Start Verify: 0
(bootloader) Input CID is not super CID
(bootloader) Start Verify: 0
OKAY [ 0.028s]
finished. total time: 0.028s
Thanks again for your responses!

Use HTC__001 (it's the unbranded one on most EU devices). And what you get is normal (it's just elling you yo've not set the CID to Super CID), use the command fastboot reboot-bootloader after you've set the CID to confirm it's been changed

Okay I have good news and bad news!
I did all the above and afterwards I tried a couple of different SIM cards from different cellular networks in my country. The only network I could get working was Vodafone?
Any reason for that? I wouldn't mind but Vodafone is 3 times more expensive than my previous carrier!

[Q] My Phone is weird

Ok so i got the Sprint Harmon Kardon edition about a month ago, and i recently rooted it and flashed a rom. Then i realized that htc sense was gone and when i try to install any type of Sense rom, it either does not work or features are missing.
Also i know that i need the newest firmware but i dont understand about the process, and i cant s-off my phone.
Please help.
Problems:HTC One wont Restore
Wont install Sense roms correctly
Dont Understand how to get new firmware on my phone
dont understand how to S-off
My phone is Rooted with Liquid Smooth ROM. it is not s-off
What steps exactly did you follow to get your phone into the state it is in now?
I'll avoid the lecturing, but you should really make sure you understand all steps of the process BEFORE doing something like this. You could easily have bricked your phone and been left with a several hundred dollar paperweight.

Some ROMs, in particular Cyanogen ROMs, have specific requirements that you may have missed. Many ROMs aren't compatible with Sprint, in particular.
If you've never updated your firmware (which, since you said you don't know how, I guess you didn't) just find a stock backup and try restoring that. At least figure out what firmware you have and find a Sense ROM that is compatible with that firmware. Most likely the reason that some ROMs aren't working is you have incompatible firmware. I assume you are doing a full wipe between these ROM flashings yes?

Alternately, you can just blow the thing back to factory fresh with an RUU.

You will have to re-lock the boot loader to use it, but assuming you got your unlock code from HTCdev, it should be a simple enough matter to unlock it again.

Do you actually read the answers to your post? If not, you probably should.
Oh wait.......
you probably won't read this one either.
But here it goes.
Version of nandroid, wut?
Flash the RUU, or restore a backup (nandroid, don't know your "version" but your latest will have the newest date attached to it as a file name)

Bricked to the Max... (Maybe)

Prologue:
So there I was, caressing my shiny and smooth M8.
At the beginning of the year I S-Offed, and added DigitalHigh's awesome Beyond Stock...
Later on, I used a standard RUU GPE Rom.
After repeated Wi-Fi password amnesia, I wanted Beyond Stock Back.
Flashing "GPE_5.1_M8_DH_080215.zip" gives me an "Error 7" even with repeated wipes... hehe... wipes
Searching didn't give me a coherent answer.
So I though, let's update TWRP... and...
Now
The thing's only usable in Bootloader.
If I go to recovery or ANYTHING, the "Google" logo stares at me in disgust.
Odd detail: I'm using fastboot and when it's stuck on the "Google" logo, entering "adb devices" detects the phone in recovery mode.
I flashed TWRP 2.8.7.0, but all I see is the "Google" logo. (I can still feel vibrations on the screen as if I'm hitting a menu button)
I also tried to "fastboot -w" and it gave me the "remote: not allowed" result.
Actually, I tried to fastboot a lot of things and the result came the same.
Anyways, I'll give a detailed log as soon as I remember how, but the reason I post this is 'cause searching for this doesn't give an understandable or reliable result.
Thanks

Give the output of :
Fastboot getvar all
But delete the serial and imei before posting ! If you have an old bootloader you have to use the 2.7 series of TWRP. if you have the latest bootloader (3.18-3.19) you have to use 2.8 series of TWRP !
OOOOOOOOOHHHH, Where I get new M8 bootloader?
Hold Up, going to work, will post 'getvar' later today.
It's there, brah.
Take a look if you can.
It's an AT&T device, you are using it with AT&T ? And you fully converted it from sense to GPE ? You could also :
1: run the GPE ruu again. It will get you on GPE stock again and since you are s-off that should not be a problem of any kind.
2: convert back to sense (original AT&T with software number x.xx.502.x)
i am not sure if the AT&T RUU will cover the "back to sense conversion" so this might be interesting too as it involves the standalone flashing of the firmware first (you need a AT&T firmware, NOT the one posted there !!!)
here is more conversion info :http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2733523
and here you can get firmwares : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701376

Hi,,
I have managed to remove my OS, without making a backup. All i have running is TWRP. Was going to install CM12.1, but didnt update the M8 to the latest software that contains relevant bootloader. From here it went downhill - fast.
Ended up with no OS, no backkups, and no ability to flash other ROMS i think.
If someone could give me a few ideas, i would really appreciate it.

Your case is different and you should start your own thread but there are many same case as yours.
Here is one and the solution is in there.. run RUU - http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/os-sos-t3192177
Anything you're not sure, ask there. Don't hijack this thread.
UPDATE: Thanks to ckpv5 and the links that were provided i was able to complete the reinstall - thank you so much!!
Opps - sorry - didnt mean to offend!
Will take a look.
Thanks
Mike
The RUU got me an OS and, right now, that is all I need.
Thank you!!

What version is your phone? Do you have a full RUU to flash? Why did you use a toolkit instead of manual install? What recovery for what version of the phone did you try to install? Can you open a command window and use the command "fastboot getvar all" to give us some details on your phone model? be sure to delete the IMEI/serial before pasting the output here.

Agree with the previous response that we need more info.
Namely, getvar data, so we can see the version (CID, MID) of the phone, current firmware, etc. As well as what RUU file (exact name, source).
Also, any error messages or what wre the exact results of trying to run the RUU?
I also agree that flashing an RUU zip (or just about anything) thru a toolkit is a bad idea. Flashing manually is not any more complicated (at least, not by any significant degree) and a toolkit just constitutes an unnecessary middle man, that I've often seen cause problems in itself. Biggest reason for this, is that the toolkit hasn't been update in over a year (going on 2 years!) and its outdated components cause many issues on even remotely current software/firmware.

How can it be same problem as OP ? Your problem is installed wrong ROM for your device variant.
You asked where to find your correct firmware and I linked to you to correct section for your device variant
http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/htc-one-m8-unable-to-correct-firmware-t3446792
But .. now you installed a GSM RUU on CDMA device... the biggest mistake.
Change back MID to original then install Sprint RUU. If you're lucky enough, Sprint RUU will unbricked your M8.

Your phone is the CDMA version M8, that is a fact. Choosing other carriers has nothing to do with it. Being the CDMA version M8 means it supports CDMA, in addition to some GSM and HSPA bands. Its intended for use in the US with the Sprint network, and will give you limited results elsewhere. Really, its the worst M8 version to buy; and I wouldn't recommend it to any international (non-US Sprint) users.

T-Mobile Data dropps every 5 minutes

Hello!
I have an unlocked HTC M8 and I'm using it with T-Mobile. During almost a year I never had any issues with it but since January I having a recurrent issue: I can only have data for a few minutes. To solve it, I need to continuously disconnect and connect data.
During this time, I tried some "solutions" I found online:
_Install different ROM
_Add new APN
_Go to #*#*INFO*#*# and change to US band
The phone is still S-ON so I didn't change the radio (actually there is something that bothers me: the phone should be from T-Mobile but the model number is M8_UL_CA that, accordingly with the internet, it's from ATT...)
I noticed this after I returned from vacations in Portugal where I used a local SIM card...
Does anyone suffer(ed) from the same problem? I'm getting so frustrated...
Thanks
Hello, no one had experienced this before?
I'm on t-mobile with no issues.

To start with I would do the 'adb reboot bootloader' then do the 'fastboot getvar all' and post it (removing the imei and serialno). Mine is below as a reference. Also a little history - my is an actual t-mobile branded phone, I was rooted with lollipop and unrooted and had t-mobile upgrade my phone to MM. Once done I dev-unlocked and then did a backup and have installed custom ROMS. Currently I am using ACIP by coachcrey and I don't have any issues.

I bought the phone on Swappa from a seller that said it was bought from HTC directly. After I start having the issue, I rooted and installed a couple of different ROMs until I decided to go back to stock
Thanks for any help you might give me

The product ID m8_ul_ca can be AT&T or Developer's Edition.
The main version indicated with digits "1540" agrees with Developer's Edition. So it may be true it was purchased from HTC directly.
We have seen a lot of AT&t variants "converted" to be unbranded (Euro, Dev Ed, etc.). But since the ATT version has the ATT logo on the back of the phone, they would have to have replaced the back plate to remove all the branding. The model number on the back of the phone (fine print near the bottom) may also give a clue to its origins (although if it was replaced, it may not even agree with the product name in getvar - which is the most reliable info).

How exactly did you return to stock? Your own nandroid, stock nandroid from XDA thread, or RUU? If not your own nandroid, what version number?
Although, the fact your data issues coincided with using a foreign SIM; I'm inclined to believe that was the cause, rather than anything to do with custom ROMs, restoring stock ROMs, or the fact its the Dev Edition.

Sorry, I can't remember how... I followed a guide and I think I downloaded HTC official ROM.
As for the foreign SIM, how could that affect the phone? maybe it damaged the SIM tray? How can I solve it?

m8_wlv is Verizon device
version main & mid is WWE device not Verizon
i believe you need to change your mid and flash stock firmware for your device then flash the RUU which meant for your device

Actually, the MID shouldn't matter.
With SuperCID, the MID check is bypassed. It's worked that way with the M7, M8, and M9. With the HTC 10 though, MID must be changed as SuperCID doesn't bypass the check.
Flashing the latest Verizon firmware should be enough. The RUU would only be necessary to run a stock ROM. If a custom ROM is going to be installed, the firmware flash will be enough.
He/she should make sure to flash a full stock firmware and not a "no wipe" version though, since the boot.img (stock kernel) will be removed on a no-wipe firmware package.
@xunholyx
thanks for make it clarity
but is there any thing else should be worried about after flashing WWE firmware over Verizon firmware
and i think he need the stock RUU

Well, flashing GSM firmware onto a CDMA device is NEVER recommended, so I do understand your thoughts here. And I do agree that running a RUU would be the best and cleanest way to convert back. Changing the MID back to Verizon's should not be necessary, but truthfully there is no reason not to. The OP should stick to Verizon firmware only, so the MID being changed back to 0P6B20000 would probably be a good idea. :highfive:

Well, I hope they know what they are doing. Because the phone was all kinds of messes up, and not every repair person would know how to fix it (if its even fixable). Someone at some point (if not you, then a former owner) tried to flash the unbranded Euro firmware to this Verizon device. The result is usually a radio brick, and the damage may be permanent.
Most that person can do, is flash the Verizon firmware and RUU (as others have stated) and hope it works properly after that. Unless they are going to replace the whole mainboard.
