So, it looks like there's already a SDXC card. It's 32GB and read/write speed can hit 50MB/s. Not too shabby. Anyway, I was just wondering if anybody knows about any work being done on a driver for this; either by HTC or a third party.

I'm sure there is work being done, but not for any devices currently in existence. SDXC is not compatible with SD/SDHC devices.
Current expectations are for SDXC devices to begin hitting the market around the first of the year, according to CNET.
Which, of course, is a vast conspiracy aimed directly at me, since I was planning to get a Touch Pro 2 just about that time of year, and within 6 months HTC will come out with an SDXC-capable device.

FYI, 32GB SDHC cards are already in existance, however, I am guessing that you mean 32GB microSDHC cards. In that case...
If you recall, 4GB preSDHC cards never got made by major manufacturers when the SDHC spec came out (even though 4GB was the theoretical preSDHC max). However, small manufacturers did make the 4GB cards and they were easily obtainable on eBay. I infact have a 4GB miniSD from back them.
I would guess that even if the major manufacturers do the same, that is skip over 32GBmicroSDHC cards, the gap will be filled by smaller manufactuers looking to make a buck.

32GB has always been proclaimed as the theoretical limit to SDHC, as I understand it - in the sense that it might be possible to create that much storage on one, but no had done it yet, so it's not proven. However, more than 32GB is not possible with the SDHC standard, so if you heard reports of 128, it was likely referring to SDXC.
I image that once SDXC hits the market, SDHC probably won't have much more than 4 or 5 years of practical life left in it as device makers migrate exclusively to the more advanced technology - rather like you don't see many floppy drives anymore.

Android support memory card up to 2TB (2000GB) so 128 GB is no problem for SGS 3

128GB cards will work, as to when they'll hit the market who knows. I'm hoping no later than October-ish this year, which would be one year after the 64GB cards. I will get one at release regardless of cost and confirm they are working in various handsets for everyone. Cannot come soon enough for me, had my 64GB since a few days after they were released and just not adequate for my needs.
The Galaxy SII Skyrocket is only rated to handle a 32GB microSD card, but easily works w/64GB microSD cards also.
So I'd be willing to bet the SIII would do just fine with a 128GB card.
My wallet on the other hand... :silly:

sgs3 supports sdxc, which supports storage sizes up to 2TB. 64GB just happens to be the largest sd card you can get in the market right now.

class 10 refer to minimum speed so anything above is still classified as class 10, although transcend has released a class 16, but that not official, according the the SDA, class 10 is the highest.

SanDisk advertise them as being faster than class 10 and I'm using the SanDisk 32gb UHS-1 Mobile Ultra with no problems, and the package it came in says "Ideal for Android"

uhs is only supported if the card reader supports this feature, sandisk also mention about this.
you can still use the same card in a non uhs compliant reader, but will only get the class 10 specification and speed.

It would be handy for people that want to play blurays either on their phone or through the HDMI out. Or for audiophiles that listen to lossless audio which takes up around 10 times the storage (which sound absolutely AMAZING with the wolfson DAC and voodoo). Or maybe they just want to never run out of storage?
A 32 gb card will only hold around 100-150 lossless songs, and an avg size mp3 you could have around 1000-1500. A HQ bluray rip avg size is around 8gb, which can only be played on SDXC because regular cards aren't formatted to allow playback of files over 4gb.

your screenshot is showing your internal memory test. If you want to test external memory then you have to pick /sdcard/external_sd instead.
To respond to OP: I got mine from Amazon, cost me 54 EUR for SanDisk UHS class1, class 10, XC I 64gb. 32gb Sammy MicroSD HC class 10 is performing a bit better for me (just a slight bit) but lacks the space, and SanDisk one is performing as a beauty here.
ps: if in need of my screens for test on Sandisk, let me know.

I ask as I've seen many reviews tgat say data can be wiped as it's not suitable.
I'm in the market for a card though can't decide if 64gb would be overkill, but at same time would negate deleting old files vids etc I may need later...

Depends on your need for storage space. I had 12Gb of music on 32GB one and photos and vids just zeroed it, let alone apps/games on it. I have no problem with 64GB now. I guess, it's each to his own. And if it is going to be self_wiped, then it will be my loss there, but I don't see any problem at this time, nor my microsd performs bad or has glitches.
Having SanDisk only for a month now, I can say I'm pleased how it's performing in terms of speed and stability. I can't predict what comes next but I never had any microsd breaking on me, or any problems in the past (had from 2 t o64GB microsd from SanDisk, Samsung etc... over 4 years time span).

if u redead hes post he says hes on the galaxy s2 its different then from the galaxy s3 where the internal is set as Sdcard and external is set at extsdcard, the Gs2 didnt have that issue so hes screen shot is corrent.

Thanks for this thread. Even i was confused with the same question. But i was informed Micro SDXC 64GB will not work with Non Sammy roms i.e CM and other AOSPs to be precise. Can someone confirm this please

Owner of SGS2 here (visible in my sig.): If you pick /sdcard on SGS2 it's measuring internal storage (16GB one), if you change it to /sdcard/external_sd, then it's testing external microsd card. Dunno what SGS3 does and what not, it's on ICS as a base...
Got an Sandisk Micro SDXC with 64 GB and its working in my HTC HD2 and my Galaxy S2, too. But I got it formatted with FAT32 don`t know if Ex-Fat is working. Price was 58 Euro in Germany 1/4 year ago. Im on German 4.0.4 Stock Rom without Root.

Yes, but that's what I said about my 16gb card 2 years ago, and now I have no space.
Besides, i envisage apps, music, videos to get bigger as it gets better in quality.
e.g. with 64gb i can afford to have lossless audio.
Also, I have now in my room, 1gb, 2gb, 4gb, 8gb micro sd card.
I probably would have spent less money if I upgrade to a much higher capacity each time.

Usb adapters, lik SanDisk one, FTW / then you have a "switchable" USB key...
I don't have any wasted microSDs at all, but still has 2 x 4gb, 1 x 8 gb and 1 x 16gb micros's...

Hi,
Storage media of any type does not 'self-zero' itself. When it is full it stops you from writing data. Think about it: Would Sandisk still be in business if it did?
A likely reason your Sd card are self-zero'ing is because you bought a counterfeit card from a shop like Amazon or Ebay.
This is very common.
What happens? The fraudster buys cheaper 4 Gb SD Cards. He then modified the SD card firmware so that it reports to the operating system that the card is actually 32Gb. The O/S formats the card (typically a quick format by writing a few blocks at the start of the card) and you start coping the data across. Regretfully when you cross the 4 Gb limit of the card you end up writing no where. Seems that the data is simply zeroed or another error appears.
There are numerous of reports about this on Amazon.
Solution:
Don't buy SD cards from Ebay.
If you buy from Amazon then ensure that you buy from Amazon and not the Amazon MarketPlace.
Finally: If it is too cheap, then there may well be something amiss ;P

Problem
i buy de sandisk 64gb and when i tranfer files from mi pc to the sd card i got slow tranfer speeds (around 5-6 mb/s). The sd is in fat32 that possibily affects the perfomance?, when i do sd speed test from the play store i got 13mb/s write and 30mb/s read.
Also i cant achive mounting correctly on ntfs with the app from the marquet ntfs mounter which is in xda
someone pass something like this?

64Gb SanDisk works fine on mine, though I'm not on Cmiui, I'm on Sensation 4.1 flavor now, it's ICS 4.04 based (was on GB 2.3.6 before), 32GB Samsung one works flawlesly on my kid's SGS2 and any other older microSd we have works. Other then that, all my old microSd's are workign OK with adapters and such

Yes. Using 128gb micros with no problems.
I'm also using a 128GB microsD card on a Note 10.1 2014 without issues. I'm rooted now but it also worked when I wasn't.

Theoretically we should be able to use up to a 2tb sd card, if one existed. As long as it says sdxc or sdhc on it it will work.
sdhc is 4 to 32gb and 64+ is sdxc format. 128gb is sdxc...
For people prefering a specific model name: I just inserted a SanDisk Ultra 128GB (one of the current black ones: SDSQUNC-128G-GZFMA), formatted it in the tablet and am now having over 100GB space (what should I ever put on there...? )

I have music, videos and work files not to mention pictures... I have around 4 - 5 gb free most of the time but find it VERY easy to fill up.
I also have rom images too and a backup of my device so it is easy to fix if things go wrong...
I use a Samsung Evo 128gb sd card.
On a side note, if you do get Kingston cards be aware that at one time there were "128gb sd cards" floating around but they said sdhc on them, NOT sdxc. These are fakes... As I said above, anything 64gb and above are sdxc...

I know, this is probably a silly question, but am I the only one that notices how devices only tend to label compatibility with Micro SD cards based on size, and not speed or class? For instance, my Galaxy Tab S2, it simply says it can take up to a 128gb SD card, but it does not say what speed it will work with.
The reason I ask, is that I am now in the market for a 128gb card, and yet I don't want to buy an expensive fast one, if my tablet will not be able to take advantage of the premium speed. Anyone have any thoughts?
I don't know about the speed but I have a SanDisk 200 GB that runs fine.
I think that any phone or tablet that will read 128 GB will also work with 200 GB.

Any MicroSD card will work in your Galaxy Tab S2. But then, you might have to format it. When you buy the card, keep an eye out on the speed class- higher speeds are much better!
You are looking for a 128GB card, and I use one in my tablet so don't worry. It will work! But I seriously recommend a higher performance card because it can get very slow with cheaper cards.

I just tested a regular class 10 card and a UHS-1 card. Both tested at 9mb write and 40mb read. The same UHS-1 card tested over 40mb write using an Odroid C1 board.

No, that means that "class" classification is outdated. Fast cards (read and write) bear the UHS-I "U3" classification, "U1" is slower.
In future, only buy U3 cards, like the SanDisk Extreme family.

I guess you missed the part where I stated that the UHS card had a write speed of 40mb using the Odroid C1 board. Obviously, when it only writes 9mb in the S2, then the S2 itself doesn't support the higher speeds. So, no matter ability the card has, if the device's bus doesn't support the higher speed, then the card's ability is meaningless. Any card you use is going to be limited by the bus speed of the device.
Paying extra for a better card is pointless if the device doesn't support the higher speed.

Just tested the 32 GB SanDisk Extreme (U3 but not an Extreme Plus or Pro) in my T815 with the "A1 SD Bench" app:
read 59,70 MB/s or 61,04 MB/s, write 22,75 MB/s or 24,70 MB/s. The second numbers are the result of using the "accurate mode" of the test app.

Why don't you install the A1 SD Benchmark from the Play Store and test your own cards? My internal storage rates 50mb write and 160 read.

I am using this SanDisk 128 GB Micro SDXC UHS-1 / Class 10 card and it works fine! The price/performance is good.
In germany (Amazon.de) you can get the card for 33 € (+shipping costs).

For our fast S2, this one is too slow in writing. Class 10 means only fast reading.
You better choose a Samsung or SanDisk with the "U3" designation, which means fast writing, like this:

It won't make the tab S2 go faster. But it will allow faster read/writing to higher performance sd card compared to a regular one. The S2 can only go as fast as it's hardware can, with or without a microsd card.
Figured I'd share my results with my 2015 S2 8.0 (SM-T710). Right now I have a Samsung EVO Pro (U1) 64GB in my tablet and it does ok, but I'm just about to upgrade it to a new 128GB EVO PLUS (U3) card so got some results below. Note the previous 32GB card I had was waay worse, much older and only did 4MB/sec on writes (forgot the brand) but things have at least come a long way in the years since.
Results as follows...

Though got to say while cards neck and neck, small file writes where 5x greater on the new U3 card (.5MB/sec vs 2.5MB/sec) on 4k writes.
