Guys got my OP3 few days back but what I'm noticing is that after 2-3 days that my Android System is higher then Screen usage which wasn't before. Never facing this kind of drain before on OP3 or on my Nexus 5 that I used to use before. Is there anything unusual? I'm attaching screenshot of better battery stats also please do look into them.
Anyone ?
I had the same issue resulting in terrible battery life since Android System was constantly working the CPU. It's probably due to the Oxygen OS kernel. I sent back my unit and asked for a replacement because I didn't want to install a custom ROM on a brand new phone just yet.
Same issue here, Android System uses more battery than my screen. Also it looks like the phone was awake all night tonight with screen off, so I had more standby drain.
This is most likely due to an app that has a rogue process running in the background constantly keeping gms awake. Try clearing data for the play store and turning off sync for any apps you have. See the drain overnight and report back.
Same problem here... "Android-System" is consuming the highest amount of all my other apps ...
My OP3 has a lifetime of about 6-8 hours ...
Yeah even it's the same for me... Even did a factory reset but didn't help

Turn off the auto sync. I am consistently getting 8hrs SOT. Using LTE and wifi.

when you turn off auto sync, does whatsapp still work without having to manually sync every now and then? afaik, most of the social apps rely on this sync to function properly and having to manually sync every time for whatsapp or twitter would defeat its purpose.

Whatsapp doesn't use sync to fetch messages. Sync is for syncing contacts on Whatsapp
guys try disabling ambient mode and see if that lowers the android system drain.
i'm checking it myself on my op3
That does not work for me. I have everything disabled - daydreams, ambient, proximity wake, Google now, now on tap, auto sync, oneplus launcher but android system continues to take up more battery even when the screen is off.
The Opskin package is included in Android system, maybe rendering the ui drains more battery
I think I fixed this by disabling "location" and/or "location determination" (DE: Standortbestimmung)

Absolutely awful. I have probably Play Services drain in OOS2.2.1-x (also present in the to roms before this)
(no root or such). See this thread about it.

Play services goes crazy everytime I turn on mobile data. In wifi, it never appears in battery stats but if I use mobile data, this stays on top of the list. I don't know what the problem is, I have used almost all the solutions but nothing works.
On wifi, battery drains is hardly 1-2 %, but mobile data is continuous downwards slope. I have instances where I turned on mobile data in office hours and hardly touched it for 10-15 mins. By the time I reached home, it was down 50%.
Yes. Since 2 weeks I have battery drain like hell. Android OS and Kernel (Android OS) are sucking about 30%. Can't make it to a normal work day. I'm down to 35% at this moment with 46 Minutes SoT. This sucks so hard....
Phone is always awake
The phone never sleeps and is always awake. I have just rooted, so that I can try out better battery stats and find out if there are any wakelocks. But this should not be the case for a stock OS.
Very disappointed. Barely gives me 4-5 hrs of standby time.

This is caused by the mobile radio active bug, and it's present in every Android ROM. Google doesn't fix it despite it has been reported by a lot of people...

I turn off Google back up data. This seems to help for I don't have any serious drain. Also automatic update in playstore.
Its all depends on cellular network reception and range when u r in low range and still tries to use mobile data or if there is a frequent change in towers, battery drains fastly than usual..
The combination of mokee os, partical kernel, naptime and some changes within the google.xml file
my battery stand-by is really good
That graph shows a low use period only 2 h on Screen time
Lol I got the best idle combo and have essentially stopped idle battery drain when cell data is off...

With WiFi you always will get a good battery life without do anything, unless you have any App that causes wakelocks. The problem is when you use mobile data... The bug is present since Lollipop in every phone and it doesn't seem to be fixed by Google...
Even Xperia phones with Stamina mode are suffering the annoying bug ?

I'm curious, what changes in the google.xml file?
Nevermind, I found a post about how to disable GCM through Google.xml. I don't feel like crippling my phone's ability to receive messages while it's in my pocket.

The changes prevent Google services from beeing immun against doze and everything else
So your massenger Mails will get thedelay of doze intervall.
SMS anx phonecall and so on will work all the time.

It will prevent messages from any GCM enabled app and I know quite a few of the apps I use go through GCM. I get okay battery life though so it's not a big worry.

Hello, I've bought HTC 10 last wednesday and something is not ok with my phone. Looking at battery stats I see that my phone often wakes up. I tried to localize the source of wakelocks but without root it seems to be impossible. I have no location turned on, the signal is weak because of my workplace but it is not the answer as the wakelocks appear also when Im home. I have disabled some apps, i factory reseted the phone after installing updates. I have autosync though but i unticked most syncs and sync only important services like gmail. Have anyone experienced this situation?
And another question- is there a way to disable maximun brightness whenever using the camera?

it looks like you suffer from wifi drain bug on htc 10.
(GSam shows a 6.5%/hr battery drain)
I would turn off wifi when not in use, or turn off wifi scanning if you have that on.
As to the other wakelocks I am not the best for this, hopefully others chime in. :good:
"is there a way to disable maximun brightness whenever using the camera?"
A: The only ROM I have seen this on is Venom. I am not sure if there is an app that will do this as I haven't looked, sorry.
i am having crazy active (27%) and idle (5%) battery drain. using ex kernel manager i can see different wakelocks. i hsve been screwing around with them and haven't made any real progress. is the flash 2.05 still very battery efficient? id my problem isn't solved will ex kernel manager still work for this kernel to set wakelocks, governors, etc? do you recommend another kernel manager instead. i downloaded the wake locks detector app and every time i opened it it just said "failed to complete task at this time." it had SU rights. idk whst the problem was. im having a hard time finding whats all of a sudden doing this to my battery. i did flash some launcher mods. this started right after that. last night i reflashed the developers stock launcher and things looked great. now theyre back at being bad. would a factory reset in twrp allow me to save my data and maybe fix the issue? please help
What apps can I use without wake lock dector functioning. Could I have a virus stopping it from functioning?
Check your cpu consumption. Use exkernel manager or some other tool for the same.

Here's what I'm seeing. Google photos looks to be the culprit. I need that app. What should I do? Uninstall updates and reinstall them? I cleaned the cache for the app but they still stayed at the same levels shown here. Cpu is usually running at 300MHz. It's not shown in the screen shot, but most the of the other cpu consumption is at 1.9GHz. it's like 9% or something. What do I do with google photos?

Edit: i stopped a backup of some stuff on Google photos and the drain is still the same. It's not backup causing the issue. Something else with the app is doing this.
Have you tried clearing its data and cache so you get a fresh start, so to speak?

Did last night and it didn't seem to help.
So better battery stats seems to be telling me that google photos is the problem. I use the app so this sucks. Otherwise I would have just uninstalled it. Can I use adb shell commands to disable its wake lock? If I do that, I'm guessing it will not upload pics and videos to Google drive UNLESS my screen is ON, right?
TK has this (
) YouTube video showing what I am asking. Keep in mind I actually AM rooted. I don't see any options in batter battery stats to disable wakelocks. It just detects them.
I would again ask To check cpu consumption

Guess what!? It appears that the photos app was just trying to upload stuff to my Google drive. Since my internet is so horrible it took literally days. Once the uploads completed my battery drain returned to normal!!
Now I'm seeing this. What is going on. Seems like after every update or the littlest thing, or even out of the blue, battery drain occurs. I just flashed EX kernel 1.01,did some various updates in the playstore, and flashed some launcher mods.
I was seeing like 8% active drain and .5-.7% idle drain on EX 1.0 and only sharkie launcher mods. Now SOT sucks and so does my battery.
I had the same problem till I turned off instant tethering. Helped my battery life significantly for some reason. Doesn't really make sense.

I didn't make any changes there before or after updating though. Here's what I have in my tethering settings.
I had this tethering acceleration on,but it was on when I was getting awesome battery life too.
And what about these kernel wake locks? Is there actually an app that blocks wake locks? Wake lock detector would never work for me for whatever reason. Better battery stats seems to identify wake locks but it doesnt give you any way to actually do anything about the wake locks.
By instant tethering, I didn't mean the tethering in the Network and Internet part. I attached a few images that might make it clearer. (Settings->Google->Instant Tethering). I think this helped cause I keep bluetooth on a lot.
If I recall correctly, powermanagerservice wakelock is the catch all for all the partial wakelocks, and power manager display is just however long the display has been on.
Wifi scanning and BT scanning were both back on(previously turned off) for me after the JAN update.

Thanks for the reply. I found what u we're talking about with those pictures. Instant tethering under google was not on. I want wifi scanning on but I don't want the BT scanning on, and it didn't turn back on after the January update for me.
Without wifi scanning will wifi work with only the toggle button in the notification drop down menu? I thought they both had to be on
My battery is **** since 8.1, glad I found these options thanks to you guys.
I lose 20% battery life for 1 hr of SOT, super bad. I'll let you know if it improves.

It always has for me and I have disabled this on every phone i've had that has this option. Its more location services.
I can't figure out what is causing this but my phone is losing battery quickly and when I check battery setting it is some app or the other at the top of the battery consuming app-list. If I remove (uninstall) the top app from the phone, another takes it place. I removed 10 such apps and now it's WhatsApp and Chrome who are doing the honors. What is happening to my phone? As I type, the phone is heating considerably. I have just restarted it and only WhatsApp and XDA app is running in the background.
Edit: The heating and battery drain only happens when the screen is active. When the phone is locked, it no longer remains hot and battery drain also subsides.

Batter drain
Hi, since past few weeks my phone's battery is draining like anything. Strangely the built in app ContactsStorage is showing on top of the battery eating apps, can anyone please help me understand what this app is and why it is eating up battery the most. See the screenshot attached. Please help me with the solution.

Hi,
I am facing this issue too from last 2-3 days. Have used greenify to kill apps that seem to use battery but that has been of no help. I only keep my mobile data on and rest all - wifi, gps, auto brightness, screen rotate etc. are switched off. Still battery drain happening and phone is heating on normal usage (No games or heavy apps used - just messaging and whatsapp). I have also noticed that the fast charge is not really charging the phone as quickly as it used to earlier. If anyone finds a solution do post it here.
Not looking at a factory resetting the phone as I do not have the entire backup of my phone.

You can try this alternative solution:
Go to settings > Apps > Hit the "Plus" or "more" dots button > Reset by default
It might help to fix and reset everything for each single app in terms of notifications, datas, permissions, specific actions linked to your apps.
Give it a try and let's see what happened for you guys, and it won't delete anything in your phone, no worries,
I'm no stranger to Android and troubleshooting problems, but right now I'm honestly at a loss as to what is causing my battery drain. I'm losing a little over 1% per hour while the device is in doze overnight, adding up to around 10-12% over 8 hours. Previously the max I would lose was close to 5%. I can't pinpoint exactly when something went rogue, but I want to say it was after the January update. I don't think I've added any new apps. I've obviously tried to clear data/cache in Google Play Services among some other apps too.
I've tried to use the battery historian, GSam, BBS, you name it. GSam is showing my device as constantly waking up overnight while in deep doze, but I can't attribute that to any wakelocks. BBS is basically clean as far as partial wakelocks go, and battery historian shows that 7% of the battery drain is unaccounted for. The one thing I have seen a few nights now is the Significant Motion that's in Google Play Services. I've also seen that under Phone and under Android System. I'm wondering if it's some kind of sensor, but I can't figure out what is causing it to stay on. I keep my phone on my nightstand overnight.
My next steps are going to be turning off always on display (AOD), turning on airplane mode overnight, and then doing a factory reset. I'll report back for anyone that comes across here, but I wanted to see if anyone has had similar issues.
I'm attaching a few screenshots, maybe someone can pick up something I'm missing.

Are you rooted by chance? I've seen this mentioned in a couple other threads. Seems the culprit has something to do with GPS's, tethering in developer options, wifi and bluetooth scanning or a rouge app. Most all the cases I've seen have been since the 8.1 update.
Solutions I've seen...turn off everything in the pic.
Clear cache/data on play services(kinda risky)
Clean flash the January update with fastboot.
Turn off bluetooth and wifi scanning.
Check your router setup(some wifi setups like to keep waking the device. I get this in hotels at times)
Try turning wifi off at night.
How many apps are using location services?(I had a weather app that was keeping my device awake)
This can definitely be a bugger to identify. Sure hope you find it ?

I've got GasBuddy, Google, Play Services, Maps, and WTForecast using location. None of those usually show up in any battery stats aside from Play Services.

I wouldn't worry about turning off AOD saving you a bunch, I turned mine off and didn't notice any diff at all in overnight batt drain, so set it to DIM, and still haven't noticed any additional batt drain from when it was off.
If you really want to be a miser without totally losing AOD,
"always on" OFF,
"Lift to check phone" ON,
(Settings>Display>Ambient display>)
set it to DIM (Settings>Display>Screen Saver>Current Screen Saver gear>Night mode checked)
which is how mine is set up

I've been trying to avoid using that module just because I don't want to delay anything from GCM, but I'm going to look into it if I can't identify another culprit.

GCM = Google Cloud Messaging, it's integrated into apps for push notifications. My (perhaps incorrect) assumption is that by dozing Play Services, you could delay push notifications for other apps.

Haven't noticed any delay what so ever with any push notifications from any apps. Google or otherwise :good:
I lost 11% overnight (8 hours), I have Amplify, Enable Doze for Google Play Services Magisk module and ForceDoze, and still getting that drain.
Could it be these apps conflicting with one another?
I noticed this as well and it seems to have started after the January update. Although mine isn't quite as bad. Pre-January update I was losing about 2-3% in like 8 hours. I'm now losing that much in like 4-5 hours. There were 2 days in a row where I actually lost like 15-18% over like 7 hours.

Get rid of amplify and forcedoze. Then see what happens. You've got too many things trying to do the same thing!
The Jan update has been ****. I would get almost 7 hrs SOT with 20% left. Now all I get is ****ty 4 hrs and phone at 10%. Usage wise it's the same since day 1 nothing new as such. No rogue app on BBS. This is messed up.

Yeah I had a feeling that could be it. I'll give it a shot by removing them, thanks for the suggestion! :highfive:

I am rooted. I've got WiFi/bluetooth scanning off, but I did just notice that Tethering hardware acceleration was on. I'm turning that off. I'll see how that goes tonight, if it's still draining then I'll try turning WiFi off and see what happens.
I've got GasBuddy, Google, Play Services, Maps, and WTForecast using location. None of those usually show up in any battery stats aside from Play Services.

Try to run "su" and then "top" from terminal,
See what is your top process,
In one occassion, my magisk hide stucked up and using 30%++ of CPU all the time, even when idle, and that drain the battery in no time,
Am on 8.1 Jan, Kiriskura Kernel,
Tweak applied is Brevent, Amplify and my own EnableDoze for GMS.
Never lost more than 5% in 9 hours of sleep. Average is 2-3% with wifi on. Less than 2% when network is totally off

My bad. I forgot that it was a special build by another user. Install it from magisk manager. If it doesn't install, then flash it in twrp.
