N preview - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Well, installed n preview, rooted and installed custom recovery. Now I wanna get back to marshmallow, but do I have to reflash factory image? Or I just have to wipe and flash a rom? thanks

I think you need to flash all img, that includes the userdata.img which will wipe your device.

that is one way, but he could also just flash a custom rom and matching vendor .img after doing a wipe in TWRP.

Can't he just opt-out from the dev preview and it will send an update? From there just flash the stock N recovery.
Here's just the recovery IMG
Link to opt-out: https://www.google.com/android/beta
If you manually flashed this will still work. Just opt-in, then opt-out.

how did you root root on N?

Update to 4.4 kit kat

At this moment I have a custom Rom and kernel on my nexus 7. Kitkat will be out soon, what is the best way to get ota for Kitkat? Flash back to original software? Where can I download that?

Do you have a nandroid backup? This is very important!

Simple, wait until it's actually announced and ready to download for your device. When 4.4 is announced, it may or may not be ready that very same day, so sit tight. You'll see enough news about it to know when it's ready.
I'll get an ota message even if I'm on a custom rom? And I can install that without any problems?

No, when it's release and ready to download just go back to the stock rom, then there you'll get the OTA.
I personally will wait to download the img, restore the Nexus to 4.4 and just to try Kit Kat, then I'll just flash back to AICP, I'll wait then for 4.4 to get incorporated into custom ROMs.
I'm on stock ROM and stock recovery, but rooted + custom Kernel, does anyone know if I can receive the OTA?

No. You need stock recovery AND stock kernel.

Where should I get the stock kernel? I did not make a nandroid backup as I did not flash the recovery, I only used fastboot boot recovery.img
If I flash the stock google images, does it wipe the virtual sd content? or only my data? Thanks a lot for helping me out!

You can get it from the stock images, just extract the boot.img and flash that via bootloader using fastboot. Same goes for stock recovery.

[Q] Root and unroot on Custom Rom

Hi! I just installed DN3 on my note 2 and now my baseband is MJ9. But I need to unroot it to use some apps root protected.
If I do the unroot through SuperSU I will be able to re-root easily If needed?
In order to search the correct file to root by odin I have to look for the correct archive for my baseband?

You can do using odin but i had custom recovery installed philz touch, you can try other recoveries like twrp also. Recovery would make it easier for flashing supersu zip file whenever you want to root.
Is it possible to restore my stock ROM from nandroid backup and delete every trace of rooting?

Can I flash a custom ROM while being rooted?

I have TWRP flashed, bootloader unlocked, and am rooted. Can I flash a custom ROM while being rooted or will that mess up the ROM?

Backup boot, system, and data in TWRP. Now do a Factory Reset and wipe System then flash the custom rom and gapps of your choosing. You'll be good to go after this. Don't flash a custom rom over the stock rom.

Having root will not mess anything up or cause you any issues while flashing a custom ROM.
